This is officially the longest break I've taken from UA-cam since moving to Mexico almost 6 years ago and starting my UA-camr career. But it was unfortunately necessary to get clarity on why my life has been a seemingly never-ending series of unfortunate events.
For the past year or so, it's been a "when it rains, it pours" situation where I was:
- experiencing burnout from burning the candle at both ends trying to keep this MaddieGold train plugging along
- diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis
- dealing with major headaches related to taxes outside my control
- ending relationships (dating was distracting me from finding clarity)
- trying to deal with a barrage of “life in Mexico” difficulties
- learning that my dad will need open-heart surgery soon
- and facing the struggles of STILL not having a car after almost 2 years
Despite my best efforts to stay positive, handle each situation as it came up, and try to overcome difficulties, I ended up feeling defeated, exhausted, and overwhelmed. All my best efforts to change my situation or make adaptations were fruitless.
Albert Einstein's famous quote kept coming to mind: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results”
Eventually, I finally realized that the solution was staring me in the face all along but part of me didn't want to admit it. By the end of this video, I'll share what this next chapter will be all about.

Yeah!
Thanks for sharing! 🤗 Your family name appears in the video Maddie! Not sure if you noticed!
@@momobaro5539 thanks for making sure I noticed! After being on UA-cam/social media for 6 years, my last name isn't a secret anymore 😜
Hi Maddie, I used to produce and direct and host cable television shows, a sit com and bi linqual documentaries on wild life. I owned my own small production company. The difference between what I did and what people like you do is, 1. I had crews and groups of people that I was accountable to and 2. I was a trained professional and my personal life and my personal details were not part of the show. There is this narcissm connected with you you tubers. If you have any success it goes to your heads and erroneously you think your life is of importance to your "fans". You reveal too much about yourself which puts your life, your privacy and even your finances at risk to anyone who wants to exploit you. If you disappeared off you tube completely...not many people would give it a second thought. If I was you, I would seriously consider closing down this channel completely and starting out on a new path. None of these shows are very memorable and you are giving up your very life for a few coins and your fifteen minutes of fame. I am 74 years old and I think you made a big mistake deciding not to have children with the love of your life. As time goes by, you may not have that choice again. Before it is too late, if I were you, I would go home, get a job using your language skills (like court interpreter) find a great guy, fall in love and have a beautiful baby. Just my opinion. You tube is destined to fall apart sooner or later...everything does, and then what will you be left with just a bunch of footage of misplaced youth and opportunity.
With your super lite complexion the North Country makes sense. Now you have to take us to Amsterdam!
“Failure is not the opposite of success. It’s part of it.”
Oooooh I like this saying!
Sometimes a person fails, becomes aware that they're not meant for it, and moves on to things that he or she is better suited for though.
@@4sername Yes, that's exactly how failure can be part of their eventual success. If they take the information gained from the failure and correctly apply it. Success does not mean beating your head against a brick wall, trying to break through it. Sometimes it can mean finding a gate. Or building one. Or finding a ladder. Or digging a tunnel. Or creating what you need on this side of the wall. Or going in another direction to find what you're looking for.
She hasn’t failed but… I like your quote .
@@charwest9449 I can admit when I failed at something and that it wasn't meant for me because I am not made for it. I have no need to warp it and be like "it's a part of the bigger picture." I have the ability to move on, start over, and if I fail at that too, leave that as well. I have had many accomplishments in my life because I persisted, but also many failures that I moved away from to save time for tasks I am actually suited for. I do my best to not be delusional about my failures, sometimes it is a sign that I should stop and do something else.
Your biggest mistake on UA-cam: You have not 'accepted' that YOU are the star of the channel. It's not Mexico. It's not Vegas. It's YOU. So, as you move forward, tell stories that you are passionate about, and your audience will follow . . . . All The Best
EXACTLY!!!!! :)
And travel to other countries sometimes! If you ever want an Ace (asexual) bodyguard/cameraman to travel along, just let me know! ;-)
and it is MaddieGold not MexiGold so @btk1243 and others are right. ;-) I hope you and your dad's health improves. I left Disney World, where I lived for 6 years because my grandmother was getting older. I only had a couple of years with her before her Alzheimer's started, so it was a good move. I just should have returned to Disney but I started my own business (webhosting and design), and I'm lucky it will allow me to become a digital nomad hopefully next year sometime. Look forward to seeing the natural beauty of Arizona for now!
We want to watch YOUR content - no matter where you reside. Please don't ditch us just because you're not in Mexico.
Spot On!!
I am also an American woman (about your age) living in Mexico, although my circumstances are quite different as I am married to a Mexican man.
Mexico is an extremely patriarchal culture, and as much as I love it here, it is very difficult to live here as a single women without the support of having a Mexican family. Even though it wouldn’t be impossible to stay, sometimes its prudent not to select the MOST challenging path in life. There is a whole wide world out there and I am big believer that one of the things that makes Mexico so special is the high value the culture places on family. So, in my opinion, one of the best thing you can do is learn from this beloved Mexican culture and go back to your family. Unfortunately, some people don’t learn the true value of family until it’s too late. Bless ❤
No es patriarcal , es uno de los países más liberales del mundo 🌍
@@javierhb2547 I believe it's more of a "matriarchy" culture . . I am Mex-Amer
I agree Mexico is a very unsafe place to live for a single woman, people treat you differently if you are not married or have a man by your side, father, brother, etc I have experienced robbery, stocking, abuse from land lords, and the list goes on. If you have a family stay with them, some of us don´t have that privilege. God bless
@@javierhb2547 Hmmm, pues, es un punto de vista. Pero el mundo entero reconoce que México tiene un gran problema con el femicidio.
@@jeffokriya3389 what evidence might you offer to support such a claim?
Your Mexican heritage and culture is now kicking in, family is the most important thing in the world. Going back to them just makes so much sense. Blessings, Maddie.
Maddie, moving back to Phoenix is not a failure! It is stepping back for a reset. Eliminating a number of the issues you’ve coping with for a while in Mexico will clear your mind, and give you space and time to identify what your next phase may be. No need to rush. It will become clear. XOXO
You should be so proud of yourself. You've accomplished more in your 30 years of life than I have in my 52. Your parents raised a smart, brave, beautiful woman. I wish nothing but the best for you.
I really like her nice, straight teeth too!
Best of luck Maddie! I will watch as long as your around.
Best wishes in your future, it has been a blast following you.
People follow your channel because they care about you, not where you’re living. It’s your authenticity that we love. Seeing you overcome these struggles gives us all hope and the information and tips you share helps us. I’m sooo happy you’re returning to Arizona (for now) and can’t wait to see how this all unfolds.
I like seeing videos on tips and tricks on any topic. Whether you’re shopping for plants, or comparing low end taco stands with high end restaurants. I would love to learn more about your life in Arizona and your travels around the world. Love your channel.
Yes!!!! Maddie, You're the reason we watch not Mexico necessarily. ❤
I agree. We enjoyed your Las Vegas videos as much as your Mexican videos.
I agree with this statement.
I follow for Mexico content, not necessarily for her. She’s the conduit to in-person, firsthand knowledge that I crave. She does a good job, but I’d follow another person just as quickly.
I went back to Alaska to spend time with my mom who was aging. She has since passed, but i have the most precious memories from that time, for which I will be forever grateful.
Congratulations on your journey I pray that your dad has a smooth recovery from his surgery
You are the reason I watch MaddieGold 💛 Keep it fun and we are sure to watch!
There is nothing like home and proximity to family to bring clarity - especially emotional clarity. So proud of you for making this decision to support yourself. You have a loyal following here, and it's totally normal for the channel to evolve as you personally evolve. I loved the DNA test results. As a single woman who travels, I think just continuing to talk about travel and travel planning and the journal to becoming bilingual. I am probably your mother's age, and I became a solo traveler (including to Mexico in 2022) because of the women of all ages I see doing it. Keep the faith. Much love and blessings!
Hi, Maddie. I found your channel a while back, and I've really come to love your content.
I recently went through my own family medical scare, so I understand how stressful and terrifying it can be. Whatever you need to do, do it. Social media trends come and go, but family is forever.
Whatever you do and wherever you go next with this channel, I can hardly wait to follow along. You've truly made #TravelTube a better place.
Best wishes Maddie. Enjoy life! Prayers to your dad and the whole family❤
Love seeing this growth! You got this Maddie.
New chapters are wonderful! Nothing wrong with a good reset. Mexico isn’t going anywhere and you can always go back to live or visit. And this might be a good opportunity to have a home base in the US and visit some other countries for a while while getting family time in between trips.
Well said , 😊
I like the other countries idea
You are a true success, Maddy and we love you! Looking forward to your next amazing chapter ❤❤❤
Good luck Maddie!
Good for you, Maddie! Brava! It sounds like "home" is calling, and now you have so much life experience to share and inspire those you love. Not many can say they have accomplished and experienced what you have in their entire lifetimes much less at your young age. I am fascinated by your DNA results, which are very similar to mine. I, personally, would love to see you dig deeper into those roots, maybe travel to some of those places and see what kind of good trouble you can get into!
Thanks Maddie for all the great content you’ve provided over the years! You brought Mexico to us in a way I had never seen before, made me fall in love with it and inspired me to take trips there. Can’t wait to see what you do next!
Your honesty is inspiring. Glad you are back. You sound stronger than ever. Best to you in your next adventure.
BLESSEDNESS, and best wishes on your transitioning.
Good luck! Thanks for all the MX travel videos.
Maddie, making this decision takes a lot of guts and it completely makes sense why you chose this path for now. I think it holds a lot of possibilities for you. You can take us on adventures all over the place instead of being themed to Mexico. There are amazing places in the southwest you can take us, and we can see you discover new countries, as well as continuing to explore Mexico. I'm excited about what journey we might all take with you. You got this!
❤️🧡💛❤️🧡💛❤️🧡💛❤️

You’re such a sweet man❤ I wish you all the best in your surgery and recovery ❤❤ and Maddie is correct you have all of us sending positivity and love❤❤❤
We LOVE you both! Your entire family!
Wishing you all the best!

Welcome back!!
Maddie - everything you touch has been gold for a long time. Pun intended. Anyone over 50 knows there are many stages and chapters in life. Embrace each one. I’d love videos on your daily life (a video once a week?) on things like counter culture shock, finding a job or whatever you do next. And I’d love trips centered around the 4 corners area and the Navajo and others. Really I tune in because your content is interesting, authentic and unique to you. Best of luck 🎉
I love what you said anyone over 50 knows the stages and chapters in life. My wife and I were just talking about this recently. I look at my adult children, and their perspective , view of the world if you will, and remember, being in that phase, or stage. It's really introspective to be able to sit back and listen/watch, and chuckle a lot. Glad I'm not the only one 😂
@@junck399 thank you and I love what you said. You sound like warm parents.
ps Maddie - promise me when you turn 30 soon - that you will put $200 a month into a vanguard index fund until 60. :)
whoa...that is a lot of life experience to have in such a short time brave girl. keep sharing young one. you are inspiring many. happy you will be there for your dad,you will never regret this decision
I wish you the best Maddie! I will continue to watch wherever you go. Your videos are phenomenal and agree with others that we watch to see you!🤗
Fantastic news! You are adding another success to your story...You're proving you are not stuck. That's huge! You are a great creative producer of travel videos. Keep it real and don't limit yourself. Best to your family. They matter more than anything else.
Lovely to see you back your looking great and refreshed can’t wait for more content 🇮🇪🤘🏴
I just watched your video and I hope you continue to achieve what you want in life. I think you’re an inspiration to a lot of of us, so keep being strong Maddie.
Love you Maddie, best of luck on your move.
Aww Maddie, 💕I’m so happy you’re going back to Phoenix to be with your family. I also tried to live in Mexico, and went through hardship. I fell in a depression, because I felt alienated and isolated. In the end, I went back home to be with my loved ones. I continued to travel to Mexico, but my heart belong at home in my own country.. I would love to see you travel, perhaps in other countries. Maybe even explore your family roots by travelling to Scandinavia or Europe… The world is a big place. You can always come back to Mexico. Happy for you Maddie.❤
Wishing you all the best!
You were missed Maddie!! Glad you took time for yourself, your skin looks amazing😆Keep moving forward, home is where the heart is!
Wishing you the very best Maddie & to your dad too & family. Excited to see your new chapter, love watching you whatever you are doing. Just please take good care of yourself,, sending you positive vibes for mental clarity & inner strength.
It doesn’t matter to me if you live in Mexico 🇲🇽 or Arizona. I just enjoy your channel and watching your adventures. Good for you figuring this out and I look forward to seeing more! And prayers 🙏🏻 for your dad. 🩷
I really don't think that it would matter whether you filmed Mexico videos or US videos. Being able to enjoy the places that you are able to experience that some of us may not ever be able to visit makes watching your channel entertaining and informative. You need to be happy and healthy. I too have PCOS and endometriosis. Although that didn't get diagnosed till I was older. In my time they had no clue what was going on. I feel for you and I pray for you. Whatever you decide to post is definitely going to be fun. Take care! ❤
❤
Completely agree! I'd love videos on Phoenix and the Arizona area!
I'd love to see some videos about Phoenix or just all sorts of places in Arizona. Maybe do a video about all the healthy eating places in AZ?
@@jcrwzr Yes exactly!
Wishing you all the best. I’m sure your family will be happy. You didn’t fail, you succeeded for 6 years! On to the next adventure. Good luck and enjoy!
Wishing You All The Very Best Going Forward, Maddie! It Will Be Alright!🌹
You are a strong lady! Glad you are getting through everything and getting better. Prayers for your Dad’s surgery and a fast recovery. Interesting about your DNA. I am thinking of doing this now too! Take care. 🤗
Like many others have said YOU are the star of this channel and regardless of where you reside I am confident you will make fantastic content that is informative, uplifting and entertaining. I love watching all the content you create no matter what you’re doing, you make it interesting and fun to watch! You are a natural in front of the camera and you make it look so easy. I am happy you found some clarity and a new vision and I want the absolute best for you. Go be with your family and take care of daddio on the patio and be there for him during his surgery and healing. Sending lots of love and prayers to you and your father. ❤
I’ve really enjoyed your content. It’s transparent and not overly edited or glamourised. You’re inspirational and given me the hope not to give up on my dreams! Thanks Maddie! Wish you and your family health and happiness 💗
I'd love to see more Vegas content. That's how I first came across TT. I wish you the very best in your new chapter 💞
Maddie, aquí seguiremos atentos a tu camino, que lo más importante has sido tú y tu experiencia contada con pasión. Gracias siempre.
Im not going anywhere Maddie. I’m looking forward to seeing more videos as you embark on the next stage. I live in Phoenix, so i’m excited you’re coming back to AZ!
Will watch you wherever you are! You’re just a fantastic person…period.
So happy you're bouncing back, Maddie. I really missed you! 💜
Can't wait to see what you do next with the channel. 🎉
Hi Maddie! I have been a subscriber for years and it’s not about Mexico, it’s about following your journey. I love your vulnerability, your laughter and your authenticity. Please keep sharing- your life in Phoenix, culture shock, finding your way…whatever you’re doing will be interesting ❤ you are such a wonderful daughter to return to your family at this time
Great Maddie, I think you will be better off, less stressed, and certainly much safer.❤You have great experiences, memories and a second language..You accomplished more than many twice your age.
Glad to see you back! Best of luck in your future endeavors.
Wishing you the best! You are doing the right thing.
Hola Maddie. To answer your question about your content and this channel, honestly, I think people follow you for YOU, your opinions and your adventures wherever you may be. I've been following you for a while and I don't necessarily think of you as a 'Mexico resource' guide but rather an entertaining person to watch that has some interesting adventures. I'm sure there is more of that whether you are in the gabacho or in México! ¡Que tengas paz y tranquilidad en los próximos meses para encontrarse de nuevo! Aquí te esperamos 💖
So much of what you shared about the struggles of feeling like an uphill battle and being dealt some hard cards SOOOOO resonate with me over the past few years. Relocating to Mexico and moving forward through life is NOT easy and the bureaucracy is at another level (I'm a Canadian expat, 7 years and counting).
Best of luck Maddie. I’m sure your next chapter will be strong. You have grown, informed and entertained a wonderful audience. And you have developed many usable life skills. :)
We wish you all the best Maddie! I completely understand how important it is being close to family. Stay safe! and Happy! Best Wishes to you in Arizona! :)
I was excited to see your post! I’ve been watching your channel for a while and I’m glad to see your going back to spend time with your family. We all need to regroup with our families in our lives sometimes. It’s good for the soul! Life is in the Journey. And Every moment counts! So much love to you on your journey!! ❤️❤️ Keep us updated
Maddie, I don't think you know how impactful your videos have been, both on MG and formerly on TT. You inspired me to get my Mexican Residency, which I successfully did using the immigration advisor you and your ex recommended (Mario). I think your fans will stay with you no matter what. When things calm down for you, if you ever have an inkling to check out other places to live, I'd recommend you consider Europe. Perhaps Portugal, Spain or similar. The food quality in Europe far surpasses what the US has to offer, and I physically have never felt better. No rush, spend quality time with your family and do what you need to take care of yourself. I'm with you for whatever you do. Wishing you all the best!
I don't care what or where you are, I'm sticking with you! I love your content and positivity. You take care of yourself, we'll be here for you😊
Good for you Maddie! Do what's best for you and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. This is YOUR journey, follow your path. Much love ❤
AWESOME HERITAGE MADDIE!
💖💖🌞🌻🌞💖💖
Love your content and what you provide. You focus on you. We will be fine with whatever you are able to produce for us.
And exactly like you mentioned in the end. Spread out and explore more of the world, you adapt well in different cultures and will learn so much about yourself and the world.
Just be sure and keep yourself happy. That is all that really matters :)
Hey Maddie, I'm glad you made that decision for yourself. I look forward to seeing travel videos within the US.
Welcome to life Maddie. Embrace it and learn from every experience! I’ve been following you for five years. :). Good luck with your next chapter.
How exciting can't wait to see Arizona. We follow you because you are fabulous x
Exciting DNA results! I would love to see a video on you actually researching those results by delving into your ancestors history. I would imagine you’d find some great stories of your kin and learn their sense of adventure was passed down to you.
Look into uploading your results to FTDNA. Upon having my complete mitochondrial DNA sequencing, I’ve discovered some amazing facts, family and stories.
Maddie you look so happy, I believe once we make a life changing decision, the weight is lifted, it’s getting to it that’s heavy.
We returned to the USA ( San Diego) in July after almost five years in México. (SMA and QRO) We have our permanent residency too so can easily cross the border within minutes to visit MX anytime we want.
Best of luck to you sweet gal…I’ll be sending positive vibes out in universe for you and your Dad. Abrazos fuertes
Maddie, I was so happy to come to the comments and see all of the love and support pouring out on you! Life is a crazy ride, enjoy every moment. You won’t regret spending more time with your dad and all of those you love in AZ!
It’s really good to see you again. 👍🏽
Good luck Maddie!! Everything will work out. Sending prayers for your Dad’s surgery and speedy recovery 🤗🤗🙏🏼🙏🏼
I was so afraid you’d say you would close up shop 😮 but I’m glad to hear you’re just moving onto the next chapter in your series of adventures.
Certainly not something I would ever consider a failure. I think you’ve done quite alright for yourself (despite and perhaps because of all the adversity) - at least it seems that way through the perspective you give us on this channel.
Here’s to wishing you well as you explore the next chapters in your life 🎉
Hi Maddie! I hope you can overcome fast of this "mala racha", I too have a bad year... and I totally get you in the need of a big change, please remember we lo ve your content no matter where you are living, If you make videos about Arizona, Germany, Japan or any other part of the world, we gonna be watching and supporting you. Thank you for your vids 🙂 I wish you the best! Please let us know how your father is doing, prayers sent for a complete and speedy recovery 🙏
Welcome again, i thought the channel had a break! All the love in the world to you adorable Maddie
I'm a firm believer that when things are inordinately difficult across the board, it's time to reassess. Life isn't supposed to be hard all the time for prolonged periods. And, inevitably, when you look back at this rough patch from the perspective of hindsight, you'll see that you were compelled to go in the right direction for you all along. Kudos for you for following the signs the Universe has sent you.
You have gone through a lot these past couple of years. Going home for awhile will help you in your journey. I wish you the best.
Maddie, I’m super excited for what’s to come on your channel, Mexico or no Mexico it’s YOU that I love watching! You’re wonderful and genuine I wish you the very best! I’ll be here supporting your channel ❤ always!
DNA tests are frequently surprising! Even my dog’s results were not what I was expecting. Will be following your journey as long as you’re inclined to share. ❤thank you for the update.
Tbh, i started watching that peach, apricot, tangerine, orange (?) channel when you were doing Vegas videos. I lost track when you moved to Mexico, but recently rediscovered you. Well, i rediscovered both you and your former channel, but i subscribed to YOUR channel. Be yourself, be genuine, and people will love you no matter where you are.
Peach apricot tangerine orange 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, that's a really cool mix of genetics! Glad to see that you recognized to take the time for your own well being. This is a good sign - you're aware of what's important. I hope you can find the right balance that focuses on your health and happiness. You have not failed! Your videos have likely helped a lot of people like me in learning about Mexico. Best wishes that your dad's surgery goes well, and that he has a speedy recovery.
Just keep on sharing your journey, doesn’t matter where you are. Best of luck ❤
Best of lucks Maddie, you seem like a very strong young woman. I hope everything goes well with your Dad’s surgery and the new changes in your life.
There is nothing more exciting in life than "changing direction." That is what life is all about, no regrets, no excuses, just look forward. 👍
Good luck to you! No, you are certainly no failure - quite accomplished, very articulate in English and Spanish. I've enjoyed your channel and have learned lots! I'm now a permanent resident too. Looking forward to hear about your next adventure. Remember you're a work in progress as we all are -- continue to grow and learn! Hope your dad has a speedy recovery. All best, Susan
Good for you! All the aventures were great to watch from both channels, circumstance changes in life. Good that you made this bold new direction and I could see it coming. Mothers know best, You make good videos and I can see you doing it anywhere you are. So Rock On!
Have enjoyed your videos over the last year. Wishing you continued happiness in whatever new adventures await you. Hugs , and best of luck to you!
Maddie; whatever you do will be great , I have no doubt.
I am proud of you girl. I have been following your travels since you and your ex moved to Mexico as expats, and I'm with you. It's time to be with your family, your circle of people back home that will help you get to the next point in your life. I know you will shine even brighter! Thank you for giving us all, your dedicated time and energy. I have learned so much from your travels and I am really looking forward to see what's in store next for you. If I were in your shoes, I would absolutely do the same thing. Super big hugs, and lots of love. You've got this! Lastly, I'm sending prayers for your father that God Almighty will wrap his loving arms around him, you, and your sweet family during this difficult time. I pray that God will heal your dad 🙏❤ If you ever need a shoulder, WE ARE ALWAYS HERE FOR YOU, just the same as you were here for all of us throughout the years. God Bless you!
We are all here for you! We all tune in because we have learned to appreciate you! I will be watching no matter where you are & what content you upload. Looking forward to continue following your journey! ❤
You are doing the right thing. When things are not going well, you have to make a change. Your change is extremely logical and builds on your experiences and brings you closer to family. Arizona is great and, as you said, is right next to Mexico. Congratulations! I look forward to all your stories.
