He is overlaying the lead solo licks on the root of each chord change while strumming the main verse chords AND playing percussion notes on the guitar body!! All without missing a beat!! Hotel California is recorded with 2 guitars and he combines both with percussion!! All without looking at the fretboard ... Wow!!
In my lifetime(I'm 74) I've never enjoyed any guitar player as much as I do this man. I grab my guitar and play rhythm with his music. He is incredible. I never tire of hearing him.
He passed away on 25 of December. I read about his life and it made me respect him more. He was born blind in a poor family. He had no teacher so he had to listen to a radio until he remembered a song and then he tried to play it. It took him 15 years to learn guitar and it was so hard. He even bled when tried to play guitar and sometimes he cried while learning to play it. His life was special as much as his talent. I do not think Vietnam has another talented guitarist like him in any near future. We can no longer have a chance to hear him play for us anymore 😢

It's like a 2 guitars are playing at the same time, plus drum effect, these 3 jobs are done by 1 man only, that's incredible. Of course singer's voice is also great.

There is no recording in parallel, especially in the last part of the song is clearly seen that with left hand he uses 2 fingers for the solo and other fingers for background. But sound recording quality is not good, I think it is recorded with iphone.

There is no recording in parallel, especially in the last part of the song is clearly seen that with left hand he uses 2 fingers for the solo and other fingers for background. But sound recording quality is not good, I think it is recorded with iphone.

Thanh Dien plays with so much Passion, sounds like 3 people playing guitars & the singers are all great. Pure joyful artistry. Never heard anybody play the guitar quite like Thanh Dien.
