If you try to break it down what Jim does, this is what I think IMO:
Step 1 - Gesture drawing (0:03)
Step 2 - Shapes and Contours (0:12)
Step 3 - Spot your blacks (0:45)
Step 4 - Add Shading (1:27)
Step 5 - Fine tune the image (1:56)
Step 6 - Sign the artwork and thank the fan. Get your commission money - (probably that was before, I dunno). (3:08)

Really? Where I'm from, the comic con artists ask for $20 a drawing. Neal Adams charges $150 for one drawing and that's too much. This guy's one lucky dude to get a Jim Lee sketch for free.

kigawman Maybe he gets paid by the convention people.. BUT still wow these guys do so many sketches and each one is superb looking. Hats off!

Yeah, probably that's the case. Its impossible that such a talented artist would go on a convention 'for free' if you know what I mean. If you were in Jim's case, I wouldn't do a Comic Con meet n' greet if I'll go there just to do a service.

How much would that be for an artist? $20? $30? Last time Chris Claremont (Writer, Uncanny X-Men) came to my town, he ask $5 per signature.

In your experience going to conventions, how much would the minimum be for most artists that charge as commission? Let's say Alex Ross for example, if he chose to do 'on the spot artwork,' would his popularity and his art be a factor if he chooses to charge let's say $200-300 a piece?

Hands down. Lee's my favorite artists of all times. His art comes to life. Mark silvestro N Jack Kirby are awesome as well
