Jim Lee is EASILY my favorite comicbook artist ever and the reason I got into comics in the first place. Kim Jung Gi is a thing that exists a plane above us mere mortals and we are all in awe of his mastery. Everyone on that stage was a fan of Kim Jung Gi.
@Paintocrazy - Art Tutorials people use the different styles argument all the time but it doesnt make sense. Kim's just a better artist style difference or not. Muhammad Ali and a different boxer has different styles but we all know who the best is.
Honestly I prefer Kim's style but I love the skill depicted in Jim's art, even if I'm not a huge fan of his style I know he's awesome as an artist and I know he's so beyond skilled, because my entire life has been looking at what I like in every artist's style then incorporating it into my own
That is the perfect expression of how I feel. I love Jim Lee's art. Everything looks so intricate and amazing! I read comics of his because of the artwork and then got into the characters. but Kim....ooh...He on the next level bruh! But as you said both are great and both do different styles.

This could of not been set up more awkwardly and uncomfortably. If they had them sitting down with projectors that would've been so much better so that the audience can see every step of the way and they aren't both slouching over a vertical page that's not even positioned properly.
True. However, these things you mentioned are exactly why I wanted to see it. Because when sketching in real life, you don't always get the perfect setup area to do so anyway. To me, that is the ultimate challenge for anyone who sketches in public and is able to accept that and still accomplish their goal.
kims drawings are spontanous, original, and unpredictable , jims drawings have a style and aesthetic that is very desirable and has a longer shelf life in my opinion.. 2 different minds, 2 different masters

Bobert Wiltshire Jim Lee’s a comic legend. Smh. It’s almost like asking to compare a splash illustrator to a concept designer, or prop designer to an environment artist. Different skillsets for different specialties that suit different personalities. It’s really just preference. Personally I like the finer details in Jims art. There’s an extra emphasis on posture and mood in much of his work, and an impactful use of negative space wherever he gives time to fill in values fully. Kim renders out the human form by simplifying much of the information into contours of the most necessary information, and fills in the blanks in details where or how necessary to make a convincing head on perspective shot. Though, he’s a lot more free form in compositional structure on the canvas.

Jim sounded really self-conscious and nervous. I don’t think it helped that the guy on the mic was constantly making it a competition and putting unintentional pressure on Jim Lee by constantly comparing the two drawings -_-
People have to understand that they are under time pressure. Drawing at this level is extremely difficult, but Kim Jung Gi have an added bonus of performing at this level.
I love how Jim Lee said his still learning shadow. No matter how experience and decent artist you are, there are always something to improve. Is like learning universe that never end.

Kim does a different kind of art generally. He does a lot of live exhibitions where he doesn’t use a pencil. Jim spends most of his time doing highly polished comic books that require a pencil drawing first. These are two different approaches. They might as well have a football player and a basketball player do a basketball exhibition live. The football player may be the best football player ever but he is going to have a hard time against a professional basketball player playing basketball. If Jim spent his time doing the same kind of exhibitions without a pencil on a regular basis this would be a different showing.
Their art styles are really different too. Can't really compare these two when their art exhibits such vastly different aesthetics/appeal factor. Both have a solid foundation for drawing, it's just that they go about it a different way from each other.
I am shocked that you used pencil vs pen as your main debate when it should have been the fact that Kim has photographic memory and spent most of his early years sketching everything he saw while Jim most likely relies on reference pictures and experience.

Drawing with Kim medium is quite harder to do (similar to pen and ink) because if there is a mistake, it cannot be retracted and or easily fixed. Where as pencil can be erased and fix again. Kim has properly mastered the pencil technique and onto the next level. Jim show us his mastery of comic book characters and etc. Jim probably done so many drawings of comic book characters and it's staple to his head. Kim only observed which give him a disadvantage on comic characters but his memory is profound and astonishing. Kim is on the level of Monet (French old Master) which uses memorization on images through their own experiences. Both are great but I would hand the trophy to Kim.

kim's art is strongly based on shapes in perspective and the mix of everything he's seen in museums and zoos n stuff. plus he has an incredible memory for intricate stuff and anatomy but still he's not as good as jim in stepping further and giving the shapes a super cool look. jim makes it easy for everybody to love art. he stands the record for the best selling comic books ever. plus he's in his natural habitat - superheroes. I'd say jim is the one holding himself here.
It's a different genre of stylistic expression. Kim Joon-Gi is more of a master artist. Jim Lee is a master comic artist. It's like pitting a Ballet master against a Jazz dance master. Both amazing artists but it's a different genre. Difficult to compare except for one's preference.

Drawing on stage is intimidating enough let alone drawing it beside Kim Jung gi while being interviewed . I often watch Jim video and it's very fun to watch

Im a big fan of Jim Lee an J.Scott Campbell since when i was a teenager with image comic. I discovered Kim not long ago and im amazed at how easy it look to him. When kim draw its almost like watching a printer. All the lines are perfectly taking shape and connecting to each other. That was a nice demo. Will be better with no host.

Kim Jung gi could easily own Batman believe me. Kim Jung gi just uses a different approach and style, but he understands 3D symmetry, and perspective enough to draw about anything.
I downloaded a comics video of Stan Lee with Whilce Portacio to my Pinterest. Last half Stan had Whilce drawing with markers, from scratch with no planning. He was amazing. Didn't drop a stitch. He laid out an entire comics page in less than 20 minutes. Performance badass!
without scott williams and more time, Jim Lee could never ever match Kim Jung Gi in sheer visionary prowess and life drawing. RIP to the master, and props to Jim Lee who was a huge influence on me as a youngster.

Kim Jung gi just uses a different approach and style, but he understands 3D symmetry, and perspective enough to draw about anything.

I downloaded a comics video of Stan Lee with Whilce Portacio to my Pinterest. Last half Stan had Whilce drawing with markers, from scratch with no planning. He was amazing. Didn't drop a stitch. He laid out an entire comics page in less than 20 minutes. Performance badass!

without scott williams and more time, Jim Lee could never ever match Kim Jung Gi in sheer visionary prowess and life drawing. RIP to the master, and props to Jim Lee who was a huge influence on me as a youngster.
