I swear, this is the best MTG content available on UA-cam. The quality of plays, the explanations, the subtle humor. Keep up the good work sir, it is an absolute pleasure to watch what you do.
The thing that turned me on to LVD is his calming voice. He goes through his explanation of plays and cards, and potential plays and cards, and most of the time I either nod my head or go "I can see that now". It feels like we listen to a chapter of the "MtG playbook" each time we get an LVD video.
If you run into or played Gruul before, they always run Embercleave and Domri's Ambush or some kind. It's not like they are using Gruul and suddenly have an absorb to counter you. That was just common sense through deductive reasoning.
dy/dx While it certainly shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that your gruul opponent may have a bonecrusher giant in hand I would say it’s impressive the way legend took his time to consider how that would affect his following plays and acted in such a way that completely accounted for and played around an unknown card in his opponent’s hand, id say that’s impressive even if it is a skill that most decent magic players learn to develop
It is a technique I have seen with many, those small decisions that lead you to improve your game. For example, the reason you play on your second main phase (most of the time) after you go through your creatures that can be used in your combat phase. The idea is to always have a plan, even if you know that you have no plays. Untapped mana makes the opponent have to speculate, and how you deal with that speculation shows between a beginner and a veteran. And LVD... he does it damn well.
This is great! I remember one of the first videos I ever watched on this channel was on how to upgrade the Merfolk starter deck. Thank you for all the fun games you've shared with us since
I really miss Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan, merely from an estetic/lore point of view. I haven't played MtG regularly since...the first Kamigawa? The ixalan sets (and MtG arena) really caught me back in MtG. I mean, pirates vs merfolk vs vampire vs dinosaure, it's basically every child dreams :v
@@FlopGaze I love Ravnica too, the concept is amazing! And i also learned to love Throne of Eldraine too, Theros on the other hand, seems pretty boring and unflavourful to me. (personal preference, of course)
Well played that first game, was nice to see you put so much thought into the possible outcomes and see that immediately pay off when oppo played the stomp half of bonecrusher giant
Oh wow, I love this merfolk deck. I typically get bored of very linear strategies like this, but the flavor is just hitting me right on this one. I think it's just because the merfolk themselves are all from such recent sets that it feels more thematically cohesive.
merfolks still ffarming enemies i see. my first good deck was a blue/white merfolk deck 12 years ago i believe and it still shines today :D...good content as usual mate, keep on owning
This was the first merfolk deck in all formats, that I liked! Really nice. Love your content! Also, I'm not an Arena player, and it looks like people concede here much earlier than in MTGO. Am I right?
Awesome video dude! I reckon you should have run 2 copies of deeproot waters - it really helps to increase the explosiveness of your deck in the mid-game. I reckon you could have cut one sivergill and 1 benthic biomancer for it tbh
I feel like your plays are at the highest level! I imagine you could win tournaments if you focused all your energy into one deck at the top of the meta. Instead I am quite happy to enjoy your content for instead!
I hope they make a new tribal soon. I had fun with merfolk, but i just dont like historic (when i play it myself). Atm we only really have elemental, but its so slow because of risen reef triggers.
drakemane I wasn't playing Magic back then, what were the power cards in Mono Red besides Bomat Courier? I was under the impression that Hazoret was the card that pushed Mono Red over the edge in that era
You really want to hit land four on curve. If you don't curve out you can't rely on burn spells to end the game. Can always discard lands later with Biomancer. You also need enough untapped green for Speaker and double blue for Trickster, which isn't trivial with a low land count.
I'm playing a Platinum Angel Ramp Deck atm and face Merfolk alot. It's always a freewin, because they can't deal with the Angel in time :D I'm like 10-0 vs Merfolk Decks
LegenVD. I have a question. Is there anything that makes you mad? Ive watched all of your mtga videos and youve been very patient even if an opponent counters all of your spells! Btw great content as usual. :)
While I can encounter plenty of frustrating situations, there's no benefit to getting mad over a card game. Anger is ultimately an emotion that's under your control. Understanding why you are upset is important, but showing anger is usually just ugly. My time is better spent thinking of solutions or ways to make things better.
@@UTUB2kholle holy crap I'm dumb. I've been thinking he deletes all the decks too, thought make he had o.c.d. or just liked the aesthetic but it still kind of bugged me

His monotone calm voice and just the knowledge makes the 100% factual.
I’ve tried some other youtubers decks but for some reason I find his better than the rest.
I couldn't agree more! Hard to watch other UA-camrs after him.
Plus the overlay of card text when he references a card not currently readable on the screen. Definitely the most polished MTG youtube creator.
I swear you can see the opponents hand. Your prediction in that first game was unreal
Unreal or you could say: it is legend. 😇

@@endersblade yeah but they way he describes his play and thought process really helps out us newbies, see the game from a different perspective.

He has probably played so many embercleave gruul decks its not even funny.
I was very impressed by the first game. It shows that hypothesising what the opponent has can make the difference between victory and defeat.

wow i just realized how way back this was :O Merfolks were my first "competetive" Deck on Arena, back when nobody really had playsets of mythics :D
“I hope they play ritual of soot and die.”
This is the exact same thought I have every time someone plays that card against my jank.

Lore/aesthetic wise kamigawa, original ravnica (that artstyle!!!) and ixalan were easily my favorites

Super sweet video, there's something deeply satisfying about sinergistic tribal decks like this one!
This was the deck I reached the Mythic Rank with, for the first time. Now I really want to play it in Historic!! great video!
Man that victory against zombies and skeletons was just savage! Beautiful plays man you’re a legend
Wow I was not thinking a full sweep. Nicely done.
"in spell pierce we trust"
really like the extra support from anthology, deck looks deece

Dang, Trickstering that Death Baron was pretty sick. Never would’ve thought of it.
I've watched all of your UA-cam vids. You are the best MTGA UA-camr out there. I can only wish you could put out more vids during these hard times.
This deserves another go now with Collected Company.
That read in the first game was extraordinary
That first match was extremely satisfying to watch. Take that, Stompy-Cleave! :D
still have merfolk ptsd from when i started mtga :P
Hey lvd, I would love to see a dinosaur tribal deck from you sometime!
Such smart plays, love it.

Your play calling is insane man
The way you read your opponents and calculate every possible outcome amazes me every video. Have you ever played on pro level or tournaments?
Your predictions were quite awsome as allways. Good game
I thought the final highlight would have been Spell Pierce xD
Amazing content as usual!
This was the first merfolk deck in all formats, that I liked! Really nice. Love your content!
Also, I'm not an Arena player, and it looks like people concede here much earlier than in MTGO. Am I right?
When there's no real prize on the line people will concede sooner.
Loving all the historic content!
Oh, this is nostalgic, I played it during WAR.
you always know if the video is shorter than 30 min, LVD is gonna absolutely crush his opponents.
A fast deck. The opponent should be looking for magickarps before they hit him^^
Great deck. Going to build this.

No deeproot waters? I get it, it just feels hilarious going off with that plus elite to blast out the triggers
Would make for a good sideboard option. It's a little slow outside of control matchups.
Finally, merfolks are back 😍😍😍
would love to see this deck against some though matches
Wonder if and when we will be getting Kaladesh block back in historic...tho i dread to again experience the days of mono red.
drakemane I wasn't playing Magic back then, what were the power cards in Mono Red besides Bomat Courier? I was under the impression that Hazoret was the card that pushed Mono Red over the edge in that era
@@Laniakea_Super Yes those 2 and a few others were the main offenders.
Could also be that i mixed up Kaladesh and Amonkhet blocks....
24:40 It does seem kind of broken that you can reveal the same card you already revealed with Silvergill Adept lol
Can we see a new MTG Arena - Historic - Merfolk deck gameplay with includes from the newest expansions? Please!
I wonder if merrow reejery can be used for any complicated infinites in historic
Maybe by untapping Gilded Lotus or Lotus Field, might need an Arcane Adaptation.
opponent at 21:00 "weird flex, but ok"
Hello, LVD! good dek. May be you make mono black or \g devotion to black zombie deck fo historic, some day?
Please sir, play a Krenko janko deck 🥺
Is it possible to have a bad opening hand work Merfolk?
Why in gods name do you run 23 lands when your curve is lower than a mono red deck?
You really want to hit land four on curve. If you don't curve out you can't rely on burn spells to end the game. Can always discard lands later with Biomancer.
You also need enough untapped green for Speaker and double blue for Trickster, which isn't trivial with a low land count.

These games were quick and dirty. Merfolk don't play.
Hello. First☝️
Historic Merfolk are gross. I don't understand why they thought they needed help. I mean the power growth, I like the part where you get to be tricky.
