What I like about LegenVD's decks is that they are direct and to the strategy... no bloat. I went from Platinum to Diamond (26-4) the first time out with this deck. There were definitely some crazy matches! A fun deck - thanks!
17:00 Interesting interaction, you should be able to block with the serra ascendent and have both creatures live, since the state based action of death-by-damage isn't checked until after the life is gained and serra ascendent has +5 toughness.
As an experienced historic format player, i run graveyard hate in all of my decks as well as 1-2 pithing needles and/or disruptor flutes. These can ruin entire decks if played correctly and in time. Needles and flutes shuts down critical planeswalkers like Karn, Kiora and Teferi, as well as charbelchers, goblin bombardments, one rings, chthonian nightmares and so on. And if your deck uses green, Gaeia Blessing is a must, 'cos there is still some decks that that try to mill you on turn 3-4. Sometimes i take one Blessing even in non green decks, while it does not guarantee you a victory againist mill decks, it can prolong milling process for turn or two while they attempt to exile it, sometimes it is more than enough to win.
I'm fully aware you're a much better player and deckbuilder than I am, but I just feel like a historic lifegain deck can't be complete without Cleric Class😅
@@mad_max21people like unlocking level 3 to return their creatures, as well as quickly pumping voice of the blessed to the moon. There's so many lifegain decks in historic that I just started hunting them with pest control 😂
Nice, how you let others play out their over the top strategies like min. 12. can we establish ingame communication like double "nice" emote to say that we got a cool finisher? stay strong, let them show their cards so you can show them too.
A little going into ´orsov´ does wonders here. Just replace 2x Ascendecies and 2x knight errants with 4x of ´bat cleric´s ( 1B creature, with flying and offsprint and the nice ability to do damage for each life-point you get ). So you do have a nice new damage source !
This deck runs through the ladder like a hot knife in butter. Even boardwipes are useless here, you get a board rebuilt in 2 turns, I run Heliod as well :D
Played against a similar deck with aetherflux reservoir, I was playing a zoraline bats, bats, and more bats deck, barely scratched out a win simply because I was going wider faster and my life total never got low enough for reservoir to be effective
Historic has power crept to the point that it's become significantly less fun as people run more of these turn 2 kills. I'd have probably switched to pioneer by now, but I really like some of the alchemy mechanics, particularly conjure and seek. Still probably going to switch, though.
Historic often feels like solitaire. I do my stuff, my opponent does their stuff - but who does it faster? (For reference: I play mono green elves and azorius Lurrus)
why not Aetherflux Reservoir at top end instead of Knight-Errant of Eos? Sacrifice 50 life to deal 50 damage to just end out the game? Even if just one copy...
Mr President, a second primeval titan has hit the board.
A second Nykthos has hit the board

That first hand if pride still cost 1 mana, dear god
still does in timeless
@@burnburn-b1x
Boros energy kinda sucks in Timeless though
20:40 that cheeky "nice" at 69 life haha
I really like how you play until the end even if you know that you'll lose!
Assembling Maze's End and opting instead to win with poison is wild.

Great point! It’s not without risk but might’ve been worth it.
That 3cmv white enchantment that lets you return a 1cmv creature to the battlefield in your endstep is great as a 1-2 of in this deck
Yeah Abiding Grace is very good in grindy matchups, have it in some other lifegain decks.
LVD, I would love to see your Joy of Deck Building series come back. It’s my absolute favorite. Bob Ross of Magic for sure.
15:08 that’s animal abuse 🙀🙀
Always feel like soul warden looks like she's saying "I can't even right now"
36:53 Dude, chill.
44:38 CHILL!!
43:01 "Historic is one wild format". Very generous.
You, sir, are a work horse, You do your thing every day and don't change for anyone.
I like in match 4 where legend has the ability to see the opponents hand and correctly calls the exact card they are going to play several times

Yup Historic Bo1 MD gy hate is a must
I also ran gaea's blessing in non-green decks, but I've abandoned it in control decks now because tasha's is part of the standard mill kit these days

What do you imagine Cleric Class would do?
I’d take the Case of the Uneaten Feast over Cleric class in this deck

I was thinking about this, using emotes for code. Sometimes I'm going to lose but just need to hit dailys
@@alexleblanc6364 a "one more turn" like emote would be nice

A humble offering for the almighty algorithm.
His commentary is so funny. "Strangling my ocelot pride, that's animal abuse"
Match 3 no way. I don't want to spoil it but that ending blew me away.
Now I can finally gain a life with this deck! xD
This deck runs through the ladder like a hot knife in butter. Even boardwipes are useless here, you get a board rebuilt in 2 turns, I run Heliod as well :D
Definitely a solid option!
I despise lifegain with a passion (I cackled with glee when Screaming Nemesis was spoiled), but I'll make an exception for The Man
"How can we kill that which has no life?"
I love me some lifegain!!!
Would raise the past be worth consideration in a deck like this?
Maybe as a sideboard option vs removal heavy decks.
Played against a similar deck with aetherflux reservoir, I was playing a zoraline bats, bats, and more bats deck, barely scratched out a win simply because I was going wider faster and my life total never got low enough for reservoir to be effective

Added 2 lands, removed two ascendants. Ditched the veterans for 4 three tree battalion, 2 raise the past.
Historic these days:
1- Modern horizons cards
2- digital only cards
3- play with banned cards
no mono red for this deck to prey on in historic apparently.
Maybe a single copy of assemble the players?
why not Aetherflux Reservoir at top end instead of Knight-Errant of Eos? Sacrifice 50 life to deal 50 damage to just end out the game? Even if just one copy...
I'd add at least a single copy of Klement, Novice Acolyte.
Cast Knight Errant with 27 life. End the turn with 63
Notification squad. Perpetual life gain sure sounds nice. 🎉🎉🎉
can anyone explain why mono color decks like this wouldn't run a single channel land (Eiganjo)
It's not a Plains for Lay Down Arms
Seems like the deck floods out too much with the lands, maybe cut a few since you have low curve. 2-3 lands for more removal maybe.
20:38 Nice!
nice
Nice
[cackles in Temporary Lockdown]
18 poison on turn 2.
Not quite into Legacy levels of broken, but not that far either.
sweeper is a big prob for this deck
No room for Heliod sun crowned here?
I was thinking the same thing. Daxos or Linden too.
Certainly an option, although without an infinite combo it can be a little slow to get going.
20 lands and mostly flood at midgame, that's the Arena I know... 😂
The opponent from the 6th match is why I don’t play arena anymore
I see Pridemate and Soul Warden I click like.
do this in brawl
Hey, soul sister.
Disappointed tryharder didn’t say nice on 69 life
I’d rather play Ajani 4 than Eos
This format is just degenerate. Match 8 is prime example, Why would anyone play it besides ego.
all of the beginner players going insane with this one
All these little cute fuzzy animals that have come into Magic recently just don't look like Magic cards to me.
Mtg is unplayable
