I wore my Grim Captain deck out when Lost Caverns dropped and it did remarkably well in ranked. It had slipped my mind how fun it was and these new editions looks fun. Bitter Reunion was always a must include so a sweeper wouldn't ruin your day before you could attack. Kiora and Floodpits look amazing. The Mauler is a crazy enabler, although I hate to craft 4 of them for this. Thee are just so many great vampires, merfolk, pirates, and dinosaurs in this massive standard I could see several different build of this doing well. In my pirate spot I did love the black 1 drop that creates a treasure token to try and get things going 1 turn earlier. Can't wait to try your inclusions, thanks for the reminder of a truly fun deck!
Greedy Freebooter would be nice to have, but didn't seem worth it to add black just for one card. If you don't want to craft the Mauler the other changelings aren't a huge downgrade since you rarely cast them.
Love the captain, and the new entries are cool, but I think the thrillseeker is a must. That card is never dead by itself and if you craft the captain off it you are very likely to win on the spot.
Thank you very much for making standard videos. And this was probably the best Grim Captain deck yet - many of them are not actually good at crafting it.
I have a Grixis build that works pretty well-- Rampaging Spiketail is usually the creature I bring out when Grim Captain attacks, giving him indestructible and +2/+0. Swampcycling makes it easy to throw in the graveyard.
I use the barkfom harvester changeling. An artifact creature to dodge go for the throat. 3 mana 2/3 with reach pay 2 to return card from your graveyard to the bottom of your deck. I also have fabled passage to shuffle. I don’t have Taurean so didn’t even know that was a card 😅
In game 6, your opponent saw that you could make 7 chump blockers with lifelink, so his stuff on the ground was never getting through again and you could start taking out his overlords.
G&M would actually only make 1 or 2 vampires in that spot. You either get a dino with P/T equal to the biggest other attacking creature, or you get vamps equal to the number of other attacking creatures.
THE #1 content creator thanks for all the content been watching your videos since magic duels. So I been popping in and out of magic online for years and am struggling with standard getting a little too fast for my liking and have only tried standard best of one and two headed giant back in the day. Is there any game mode that you would recommend for mtga thanks
My favorite format on Arena is Brawl (formerly known as Historic Brawl). It's 1v1 commander with a different banned list and all Planeswalkers are also allowed as commander. The singleton nature leads to much more varied games and it's easier to maintain a Brawl collection compared to Standard.
ahhh you're letting the cat out the bag again! did you consider black and corpses of the lost for a pirate and another way to gain haste with the captain?
Speaking of skeletons and the corpses deck, there’s a new 2 mana skeleton that surveils when an enchantment etb’s. In addition to that we can also use mockingbird to copy our skellies, then in the 3 drop spot we can use a couple of banners plus the new changeling lord, then top it off with some Gisa’s for 5 mana. Overall you get a Dimir skeletons pile which I’ve been trying to to fine tune for BO1 but haven’t got the proper card ratios yet. Maybe LVD could try the “Dimir Skeletons” idea, as it’s definitely fun and more synergistic than just mono black skeletons.
@@LegenVD I'm dumb, Skullsnap Nuisance is the skeleton I was talking about lol, just didn't remember the name. I am already using it. Doesn't commit crimes but with 4x Corpses of the Lost, 4X Case of Stashed Skeleton and 2x The Witch's Vanity, that thing is putting in work with the surveil and descend.
Valgavoth does not beat Captain plus Galta. And might even need to be sacrificed when captain attacks. Hexproof also beats ward, even if it is a very good ward.
Match 1 might be the best example of "math is for blockers" I've seen in an LVD video :)
Clearly opponent did the math wrong lol
@@masterkurosaki100 They were probably losing that any way.
That first game with op not being able to do math was hilarious. Counting to 12 is hard hahaha
Lucca at me, I'm the captain now.
I’m so happy you revisited this deck
42:13 that level headed comment after being screwed by the shuffler is why I love you Luca
Oh captain my captain

I decided not to craft the Mauler and used thrillseeker instead
Love the captain, and the new entries are cool, but I think the thrillseeker is a must.

This deck is grimly satisfying.
41:10 ah yes. Mom is calling you to go have dinner. The best wincon
To see Taurean mauler in standard is weird, I've only ever seen it in commander games and it's an absolute menace there sometimes
Definitely better in multiplayer!
Sick take on the build! Ill-timed explosion might find a home somewhere in this list.
47:53 The captains got experience with this situation. We all know the throne isn't the only thing the captain likes sitting on!
Thank you very much for making standard videos. And this was probably the best Grim Captain deck yet - many of them are not actually good at crafting it.
Throne of the Grim Captain; my second favorite Chair from Lost Caverns.
41:17 Thats a weird concede.
Pretty cool deck. Well played games, and informative commentary as always. Thanks.

I have a Grixis build too with Soul Cauldron and Thrillseeker

Saheeli’s Lattice might be another option if you need more threats over Bitter Reunion.
I had it in a different build with the Staunch Crewmate. It was ok, but you very rarely want to craft with it.
It’s crazy you posted this cause I just pulled a ghalta and mavren
Welcome back my captain
Have you tired swapping out the shapeshifter for a Thrillseeker? You could get some really sneaky over the top kills
In game 6, your opponent saw that you could make 7 chump blockers with lifelink, so his stuff on the ground was never getting through again and you could start taking out his overlords.

On time!
Love that one-of alternative art treatment for Kiora. Magalli Villeneuve's version looks notably better.
This is awesome
Crafted things come into play untapped? I guess it was on Transform where the card comes into play tapped if it was tapped?
Transform never leaves the battlefield. It transforms in place. Craft exiles then returns.

A humble offering for the almighty algorithm.
Sad to see the scoop in match 6. It was very a very interesting game.
This deck is so silly, I love this!!!!! 🔥❤️🤘
you got throne in the top 10 cards in every single game...whathow?
If you also account for mulligans it's not that strange.
LVD is de captain of dis ship now
ahhh you're letting the cat out the bag again! did you consider black and corpses of the lost for a pirate and another way to gain haste with the captain?
Yeah that was certainly a consideration. Maybe if we get some more Skeleton creatures that also have one of our four types it could be worth it.

@@mariand.1087 Would've loved the Skullsnap Nuisance in that deck if it also helped you commit crimes.
@@LegenVD Worth trying to include I just have to find what to cut lol.

Bitter reunion just too powerful for that guy
I SAW DINOS IN THUMBNAIL. I CLICK!!!
Damn! Two paid actors in one video...
People just runnin' scared of LVD :D
Notification Squad. Dinos, vampires merfolks and pirates oh my. 😱
Valgavoth is better though
Captain wins the 1v1
