You rock Rusty thanks for your help you are a really good teacher
Another slice of guitar gold Rusty.........I'm always blown away by how simply you are able to convey to people learning improvisation how to phrase...........you make it so accessible to everyone..........big thanks Paul from Ireland
Well said , saved me a lot of writing 👍🏻
Thanks Paul! Simple concept but lots of fun! Greetings always from Chicago. Talk to you soon, buddy.👍
I used to look at the start of the video & think, 'no, I don't need to watch that'. Now I always make sure I watch every one of your videos all the way through, as I've learnt that I always take something away from it. Some of them, like this one, I need to watch several times to realise that I don't actually know that, or don't look at that scale the same way & realise I'm missing the point! Keep 'em coming Rusty, as I've learnt so much from your videos & I've only been following you for a couple of months. Wish I'd discovered your channel when it first started. Thank you.
Thanks a lot, Pete! I do add little bits of knowledge and technique through the entire video. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch the lesson videos. It’s always good to hear from you. Thanks.👍

Nicely done Rusty. You always explain things in such an easy, clear and concise fashion. Not only are you a gifted player, but you are truly gifted as a teacher. I appreciate you my friend. Wishing you and yours a truly blessed weekend!
I really appreciate that! This is a kind comment. Thanks so much and I hope you have a blessed weekend also 🤛
As an instructor told me long ago, "Don't just go through the scale, you need to make it 'sing'"
Phrasing is making that cold and tired scale come to life.
Excellent channels Rusty.
Excellent advice! Thanks so much for checking out the video and for supporting my channels✌️
A genius at that is Warren Haynes.
ANUDA GR81 RUSTY... GOD BLESS YOU FAMILY N COMMUNITY... U Da MAN... PLEASE KEEPEM COMMIN MATE... WE ARE ALL WITH YOU...

Good stuff! Also it’s the quiet spaces between the notes that can add to your style - my old guitar teacher recently used the phrase, “Just Breathe”- trying to take that advice in.
Well, said Brian! Thanks for the feedback and let’s talk soon👍

Thanks a lot, my brother! I’m happy to help! Have a great weekend✌️
Hi Rusty,
Finally after years of frustration I've had the ultimate light bulb moment thanks to you and this lesson. I've played using the extended Pentatonic before, however, I've never been able to make it sound musical. It was always just plain boring. Using your phrasing tips and playing over this 1 chord backing track everything changed. Like you said; once I started playing over the Backing Track; the Muse took over. Then all kinds of interesting things came out. It seemed like the guitar was playing itself. I then added notes from the Pattern 1 Minor scale and more good things started to happen. Then other Backing Tracks came on and more magic happened. It didn't matter whether it was in a minor or Major Key I was able to play over the track and even the chord changes. For me you truly are the best teacher I've found on the Internet and I'll be forever grateful. You are a blessing.
Ken
Hey Ken, I’m excited as I read your message here!!! This is what playing the guitar is all about! When you have that connection, you will really start moving forward! This is motivating for me to keep making these video lessons! Thanks for all your support to my channel! I hope you have a ROCKIN WEEKEND!!! thanks again for this inspiring comment Ken👍
Just used the tips from your lesson to improvise over With or Without You in the Key of D. I had an absolute blast channeling the Edge. Can't wait for your next lesson to come out. It's like opening a Christmas present 🎁

I learned the pentatonic scale and extended scale from you ...and I was getting so bored just practicing them...but this video will surely get me out of that rut ! Thank you for doing what you do and breaking it down for us all Rusty ! Judy 😉 p.s...love your lava lamp !
I’m so glad to hear that, Judy! It’s always exciting to make new connections on the fretboard! And yes, that lava lamp creates a good vibe in my studio! Talk to you soon thanks✌️
Nice little pinch harmonic on that opening example phrase Rusty, thanks these are great micro lessons.
I did hit a good one there! Thanks and enjoy your weekend 👍
Rusty I am now putting you to face book UK with the hope that any guitarist can learn from your wise skills, today I picked up my guitar and made music, such fun, so to those that don't know you, this fun can come earlier. 😀
Hey Paul, that’s fantastic! I really do appreciate you doing that. It’s so exciting to make new connections on the guitar. The older I get the more excited I get. i’m really glad I can be part of your Guitar journey. Talk to you soon Paul.👍
Thank you Rusty ! ❤
You’re welcome Jon! Thanks a lot brother 👍
Great lessons and you teach them very well easy to understand. Keep ot up!
Thanks a lot RUSTY!!! More to come 👍
I've been using that extended pentatonic for years, but I never got that "feel". I'm inspired to jump back in using another great backing track suggestion.
Also, I seem to recall someone saying that this slide is an Eric Clapton go-to.
I use this concept a lot in my playing! And yes, Clapton does use that slide move! Thanks a lot for watching👍
Thanks Rusty! Lots of light bulb moments for me.
You’re very welcome Stew!!! I’m really happy that the lesson was helpful! Good to hear from you. Enjoy your weekend buddy 👍
Excellent Man !!!
Right on Daniel! Thanks👍
The internet allows me to meet people like Rustys and learn from them.
Thanks a lot for checking out my lessons! Have a great weekend👍
This video has been bookmarked, great advice. Why start running if you can't yet take baby steps. It's been a while since I've checked in, but I haven't been idle. Been working on my piano skills using Moulin de Ville (Burgmüller) and his first four songs. But my piano teacher is impressed since I'm transposing them into all the keys. And I realized something important. Opus 100 no 1 "Le Candeur" is actually a study of pentatonics. And it works well on the ukulele.
and no 4 "La Petite Réunion" is a lesson in thirds, or double stops.
I'm working on major harmony, and ran into some problems transposing no 2, "Arabesque" which is in a minor key. And I think it would be good to try it on the fretboard.
I'll use this video as my fun time at the end of a lesson.
Merci beaucoup, and hope you're doing well.
Thanks for watching the video lesson. I’m happy that you enjoyed it! Later bro 😎
Thanks!
This support is so appreciated Dennis! Thanks so much, my brother! If you have any questions, let me know. Talk to you soon.👍
You make me scream and moan. Your playing is just so sweet. Because you taught us the anatomy of the pentatonic so well, my noodling just sounds too good. I have to stop myself and say girl, go play some chords. It is a joy to not hit a “wrong note”, and being able to find the pentatonic “under my fingers” no matter the key.
It sounds like you’re really jamming on that guitar 🎸 Cathy!!! That’s exciting! Thanks for taking the time to share a comment! Enjoy the rest of your weekend ❤️
Hey Rusty, even tho im not doing note for note what u did, on the C minor scale,.the leason is still great, because it makes me play the C mInor scale lol and with that i started playing chord progressions in C minor.so it still helps me get better and learn more and more.
Have a great weekend, Rusty,😂
The C minor scale definitely works well over this track. Lots of fun! Thanks for checking out the video Eddie. Enjoy your weekend also👍
@@rustysguitar1 yeah i saved the backing track, u put up.i need to start doing more of that.
I always get so much from your lessons. Thank you. Hope it is equally fulfilling and rewarding for you to make these. Btw do you use a standard reverb on your pedal board as well as the cloudburst or just the latter? 😀
I only use the Strymon BigSky on my board. I have used that for many years! Thanks so much for all your support of my channel! Talk to you soon 👍
@@rustysguitar1 thanks Rusty
Thia squicky tone was realy nice 👌 😂 billy G
Thanks Billy! Catch you later ✌️
Rusty is the best.
Thank you, James! Later, bro😎
