- Sometimes we don’t feel creative when we play over the blues chord changes on guitar! In this intermediate blues guitar lesson I will teach you how to better play the chord changes, better blues phrases and playing blues guitar by yourself. Using the structure of the C minor pentatonic scale we will connect a phrase over each chord and create a great sounding blues rock lead guitar solo. We can use these blue rock lead guitar solo ideas in any key because the solo ideas are movable. Here is a link for this great blues backing track • Smooth Slow Blues in C...

Thanks Rusty, I've been playing for 19 year's and am always working at filling in gaps in my knowledge. Adding the major 3rd into the minor pentatonic helped me unlock a sound I've heard in my head for ages and never been able to capture. Just played one of the best solos of my life!
So important to play the changes. I struggle with this. Thank you Rusty. You’re the man
Great lesson Rusty! The real genius of your lessons is you don’t overload us with to much information at once.
Yes lessons are perfect. Gives me something to work on for the week. These lessons have helped me tremendously and even now I have created my own licks and riffs over chord structures. It's amazing how far i have come in the last year watching these lessons.
Woke up this morning with the bluuuze. Watched a Rusty Guitar video now I’m totally in the grove…. Thank you Rusty! Your lessons keep me inspired to keep practicing and playing..
Another superb presentation Rusty 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Thank you Rusty always appreciate you and your lessons looking forward for your next lesson 🙏🏾
Love your videos.
Nice lesson. 😊
Rusty, I would rather have you make the guitar talk to me instead of shred at me. That's the sign of a great guitarist 🎸 😊🎉
Ofcourse that is what I always thought of.
Simple tones are powerful versus shredding sounds that lose their meaning.👍❤️☮️🤔☮️
Beautiful my dear friend 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🔔👍💯
Thanks Rusty, good things to work on.
Hi Rusty - I do consider myself an intermediate player; your lessons are awesome - so concise. Perfect for me at my level of playing. Thank you!!
I’ve learned very much watching you. You’ve renewed my drive and love for the instrument. Three chords and the truth! 🎶
Thank you. God bless you
Another masterclass in chord tones..........thanks Rusty.........Paul from Ireland
Killer lesson Rusty! I picked up some new licks from this that I never really thought about. Great stuff!!
Awesome as always Rusty !! have a great weekend👍😎🎸
This is exactly my style of playing. Thanks Rusty!
Awesome, thanks Rusty 😊
Awesome lesson
🤜🤛🎸🤘right on Rusty!
And yes, playing over the changes
Notice how he highlighted the Tritone (Mj3rd/flat7) of each chord!❤
Sooo helpfull.Thanks
Hi Rustys great tutorial like always since I know you. Just amazong how your channel is growing👍
Really great lesson on tying these phrases together. Thanks Rusty!
Really appreciated brother. You're helping me work daily. I have a habit-rut of letting it get stale by overly repetitious routine. Thanks, you're appreciated.
Another brilliant tutorial Rusty 👍🏻 I’m having fun with this one my friend. I love landing on chord tones, rather than the ‘rut’ note all the time. Thanks buddy, enjoy your weekend 👍🏻🏴🎸
Hey there Rusty :) Another very good lesson on getting the basics right, and the rest will come with time and practice....a lot of practice! Little by little I'm starting to see the shapes as you mention. There's still a long way t go, but i'm on the right road, and it's fun too :) As always, thank you....and Play it Loud!
Good to hear from you, Neil! Thanks👍
Rusty , empiezo a sonar a blues gracias a usted ! Magnífico video!
You always show us the best ways to play.🎸👍 Great tutorial. Have a fantastic week, Rusty!😊❤🎶
Cool! You use pieces of 7-arpeggios. It's good to study these arpeggios first, then it will be easier to play by imagining arpeggios from
7 chords or something like that.
Great lesson my friend thanks for sharing greetings 🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶🎸👌👌
I like the ask a question and give the answer phrasing .. contrast
I can shred but that’s because it’s in my tool bag with all the other tools
Thank you as always rusty. Absolute gold 🎸
From across the pond 🇬🇧
that intro riff reminds me of SRV Texas Flood, very iconic and very bluesy, but you gave it your own spin ... so this is very much you delving into the blues idiom. Im playing along with you now.. targeting the good and pretty notes. Mind you blues is all about feel , you only can play the blues when you feel it.. or have it...veils of melancholy ..no theoretical luggage will help you .. This is a very nice tutorial for playing over the chord changes.. Enjoyed listening... talk to you soon, got a new vid out with lots of guitar on it.. Santana this time.. latin and rock and blues...
Thanks a lot for checking out the video John👍
Brilliant as usual - thanks Rusty 👍🏻
Another great video Rusty!!! Thanks!!!! 😃
As always a very helpful lesson, thanks a lot Rusty.
Excellent playing made straightforward!👍👏👏👏
Thanks for another great lesson! How come I didn't do that before? Every one is a gem, and this one is brilliant!! I really like the way you teach.
wonderful, Rusty ! do you also teach to find time ? I saved them all ! have a nice weekend !
that is the intro to Texas Flood by SRV! Nice
Oh yes! It has that vibe! Thanks so much for the comment👍
Hey my friend, I really love blues and its also a foundation of many music genres, so I think this is a very useful and worthy lesson, awesome tricks you show, hope to see more like this buddy! Have a good weekend!
Good stuff Rusty .. to me you make it understandable
Great
I need to learn the 9th something new to work on.
Thanks
Wow wake in bake early morning jam much ❤ Rusty 🌴 🌊 🐠 ⛵ 🎶🎵 ❤TX
Rusty , Dude , That's playin' you can feel , Oh Yeah :)
You know, I never knew why I did that, as I play by ear, I just go where my ear tells me .. telling me, yeah buddy that’s the sweet spot .. the root
Guess that’s why I know all the tricks fluently
Hello Rusty, I like your lessons very much, can you please tell me which amp model from Revv and which speaker box you use?
Thanks a lot, Hartmut
I’m using the Revv G 20 amp set clean and driving it with the Revv tilt overdrive pedal. I’m not using any speaker. I’m going direct into my interface. Thanks for taking the time to watch my lessons.👍
Half the reason I watch these videos is to drool over Rusty's strat...
I do love that guitar 🎸 Thanks buddy ✌️
👍
Tells me at times you want to see the chord or triad first then see and play the associated scale second instead of vice versa.
Thx Rusty . Hope you’re doing well ❤. Learning so much . I feel like I’m getting out of intermediate guitar prison. Thank you so much’ what size guitar strings do you use Rusty ? Thx ❤
I use D’Addario 10-46 pure nickel strings. Thanks Jon!👍
I know I'm not very advanced at playing the blues but for the life of me I cannot figure out what pentatonic box Rusty is using when playing over the F9 and G9 chords.
I’m actually using the structure of the first C minor pentatonic pattern. For each phrase I’m just adding notes from each chord. Some of the notes that are in the chords are already in the C minor pentatonic scale. Thanks a lot for checking out the video. Talk to you soon.✌️
Hey its C,F,G how its C7 F7 and G9???
Sounds so good...thanks Rusty!
