- What does a day of a Scrum Master look like?
Ok, in this reel I’m not really showing you the full day. It’s just a snippet of a couple of hours I spent with the team.
What I’ve done during that morning:
✅ Attended a couple of meetings with the team such as refinement and daily scrum.
✅ Organized a few call for the upcoming days with a few people who I haven’t met yet
✅ Reviewed my 50+ pages of notes and highlighted the key insights
✅ Created a visualized overview of the team structures and org chart
✅ Started my Agile assessment presentation. Boy, that will take a while as usual…

Wow, a REAL day in the life instead of the whole “I’m a tech girlie and this is my breakfast, my coffee, my lunch, and me having drinks with my coworkers” schpeel! And cool set up!
I know! lol
@@ScrumMastered But what time do you awake???
Scrum master seems to be basically using mail, calendar, slack and post it notes. Developers is like drowning in code. Transfering the roles to building a house, it’s like developers are builders and scrum master is the guy at the ground shouting ”you’re using the wrong method” because one of the builders where holding the hammer in the wrong hand
You do know there is a this thing called 'foreman' in constuction projects?
@@ScrumMastered yeah, who’s in the way
The life of a scrum master is much harder than most people can anticipate. I am a senior scrum master and was a developer earlier. Trust me, my life was pretty easy and smooth when I was a developer, now it's much tougher.
@@AnkitYadav-bn9jou are a 🤡. developers don't like scrum, period. we hate it.
If a scrum master is giving orders theyre doing their job wrong. You may just have had a bad experience.
I love your setup. I have been looking to find a good solution for multi cam settings when I do my remote workshops. But I still need space for my daily scrum master space. Yours looks really nice 😊
Thanks! It took me 2 years to finally set it up in a way that I like. I have all of my hardware setup explained on the website, in the store.
This setup is made keeping scrum master role in mind eh ?
Is that a teleprompter between your monitors? If so which one and how do you like it?
This seems like a lot of work, I can imagine how mentally draining this can be, leading the team, researching, and synchronizing with all stakeholders. You are a super woman. Well done, and thank you for sharing
Trust me, it is very draining. You're pretty much a project manager now. You also need to create dashboards, reports, presentations etc..
A very important part of being a scrum master is that you are not directly managing!! You are enabling the developers to self-managing, you are basically communicating and solving problems for them but never steering. It is a lot of work!
This set up looks complex and over engineered and scares people,it is not as complex as she works..this setup will sure kill person
What is the pay for this career?
A scrum master is a cheerleader that carries a clipboard
@CHURCHISAWESUM, was there a point in this comment?
I love ur work station😍
@gargibhardwaj29 thanks
This is why I couldn’t work remote. You basically sit literally in one place all day and interface with people through a screen
@steftrando that's the reality of many jobs. And I can also stand since it's a standing desk :D
Awesome! I love the setup. Is it possible if you can share templates of some of the presentations that you do for beginner scrum masters to learn from you? :)
What kind of presentations are you looking for? I have one that I share here: store.scrummastered.com/products/presentation-agile-assessment
@@ScrumMastered hi, how are the issues that get raised on previous implementation is handled in scrum
It's really great to see videos like these. I'm just starting my career in software engineering, but planning to go towards Scrum Master in the future. Your videos help a lot, thanks!
Thank you for watching!
no don't! that's moving backwards! Engineering will always be a valid position, these weirdly named agile positions will be eaten up by AI algorithms sooner than you think ;)
Just notice in the video she never uses the keyboards, all your formation in code will be wasted.
@luislizano7025 how hard is it to keep your attention for 14 seconds until the moment I start typing?
@louper3002 the only positions that would be difficult to replace are the people oriented ones. You know.. like coaches, teachers, therapists, leaders... I don't think AI will ever be capable of detecting and understanding human emotions, team dynamics, learning tendencies, etc.
Contrary to more machine oriented roles. AI can already write code. I mean, it just basically needs to crawl StackOverflow, where many devs spend a big chunk of their development time.
Scrum master in my team is active 15 minutes every morning and takes every other Friday off. What you did here in a day is more than what he did in a month. It is supposed to be a role, not a solid position.
@logan4moua, unfortunately, many people misunderstand the SM role to the point of rendering it useless. If you're doing a good job you would probably need more time. I literally had to extend the hours on my most recent contract because I was running out of time as I was working on resolving a bigger organizational issue.
Can you show an in depth version of what you do when joining a new team ?
Have you seen this video I have: ua-cam.com/video/P9IWi6Pohs0/v-deo.html It gives you some steps on what I usually take.
I also how more in-depth explanation in my Scrum Master Startup Guide.
@@ScrumMastered Hi, will look at both, TY
Which certification do you see more value and more inclined to the actual day to day responsibilities-CSM or PSM 1 ?
I absolutely love your setup. Slack is awesome. It's perfect for real time communication
It really is!
I was recently introduced to this field and am doing beginner research on it...is it possible to do scrum management part-time initially? I have a very good full-time job that I am not looking to quit....yet.

I want to know about that too!
I see a lot of hardware and monitors on your desk.
Is is necessary? What should I have to make my work most effectice? What would you reccomend to get?
Some of the hardware here is for filming, really. But if you want to appear more professional for your online meetings, having a better camera, microphone and lights can be great.
I like having two big monitors as I can have several different windows open at the same time. The small monitor in front of me is attached to a teleprompter. So when I am on a call I can look directly into the camera when I speak and I can see meeting participants in the monitor. It's a great setup.
I have created a list of my office tools with referral links to Amazon here: shop.scrummastered.com/shop#office
@YumT-vo3xc, oh, I really hope you are using a couple of monitors. I can't imagine having to work on just a single screen. Especially, for development
Love it
This is incredible. Is there any chance where I can shadow you?
You basically just did
Not sure if it's ergonomically optimal to be always looking to the side when using monitors. I'd rather have the main screen directly in front. If you need a teleprompter for meetings, there's ways of having a flexible setup.
@magicmulder my setup isn't ideal for sure. I do need multiple monitors though.
Thank you for sharing. How many hours per day or per week would you do you work.
@HarrietJackson-vl4tt, well, nornally, it's a full time job. But I'm only doing part time contracts right now.
I liked your video. But I'm feeling very disappointed. I got the certification PSM I on January, but since that time I can't get a job. I'm Brazilian, Project Manager and I ain't got any job now. Could you help me how to get a good job?
How have you adapted your resume for the job? Since you don't have experience, what else do you offer to your potential employer?
Can you provide the names of the equipment you use in your setup so I can make mine the same? Especially the webcam part. I find myself always looking up or down on the laptop when I do a video conference. Your setup allows me to look directly ahead in direct view. Thank you in advance.
@Jupe367 check this video ua-cam.com/video/8c3v-vb-e8s/v-deo.html - around 13 minutes in I do an office tour.
Hey Scrum is this very math , heavy I only ask because I want a tech job but due to a birth defect I have a 4th-grade math level or is it more organizational
R u a product manager?
genuine question: what are all these devices for?? I’m a product owner and I just work from my laptop, I don’t even have a mouse lol I just use the trackpad
@Fred-zt5ky I would not recommend anyone to just work on a laptop without any other hardware for a number of reasons. The number one: it's really bad for your back, your neck and your posture because you constantly have to scooch over your screen. And it's probably bad for your eyes too because you have a smaller screen to look at.
Then, it actually slows you down A LOT because you have only one small screen to operate on, you constantly have to switch between windows, looking for the right one. And if you don't have a mouse... don't even get me started. Just moving around your screen takes 2-3 times more time. The only reason I don't use a mouse (sometimes) when I'm on my laptop is because I have a touch screen monitor on it.
So if you care about these two things: your health and your time; then you should invest in the minimum: a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor.
Hey, can you post the link for the monitor and other devices setup? Thanks 😊 I don’t see it in your store
@nickeapollard21, I bought them such a long time ago now and my setup changed a bit since then. Any specific ones you are interested in?
Outside of gaining certifications, what would you recommend doing to get a job as a CSM? Learn to code python, a full on coding bootcamp? Anything else? Thank you
@MaddMenSport, coding is really not needed in a real Scrum Master role. You should understand software development enough to work with devs, but you don't have to be a dev yourself.
Scrum Master is a leadership position, so working in some kind of leadership role previously will definitely be helpful.
very underrated
Great 👏👏
what type of tablet is that? and what stylus do you use?
love the set up
How much do they make in a year and it’s scrum have its flexibility to take two job remotely
I’m currently working as a project manager and looking forward to do a CSM course. Will that help me boost my career and move towards Scrum?
@good3135 it may help if you are interested in switching towards Agile PjM. It takes time, and adding some other skills, like a bit of tech skills, will probably be beneficial too.
Meetings and presentations are the death of productivity. Where is wealth generated in doing the work, or talking about doing the work.
@TacBlades, the results of the work are intangible and bring results long-term, not immediately. It's like fixing the technical debt - it's doesn't bring immediate value, but if we don't do it, we are going to be paying for it later.
In my work, the easiest example of 'wealth generating' as you put it is optimizing workflows and processes that lead to increased throughout of work, less wait time. This can be translated into money terms in the amount of money the company saves.
@@ScrumMastered as long as its not in unless regular meetings.
Can someone from non technical background become a scrum master?
@SakshiParmar-u1m, everything's possible :) I think that tech background is not necessary, but a good understanding and knowledge of tech is necessary. I talked in detail about it in one of my recent videos: ua-cam.com/video/Ni5WL4RFIrc/v-deo.html
I'm going to start my first SM job next week. Any advice? (love your setup!)
How’s it going?
@WeisserAllan, I hope your first weeks have been good. I have a couple of videos on this topic, like this one: ua-cam.com/video/P9IWi6Pohs0/v-deo.html
Could you please share what the pay is?
@scrummastered Can someone learn scrum in a few days? And get a certification ?
@mm-3669, sure, but.... let me give you a metaphor.
Say I've never driven in my whole life. I can practice to drive for a few days and be able to pass the test. The question is: would you want me on the road after that?
what is the name of the e-note pad that you are using?
Link in the video description:)
there is NO 1 face-to-face meeting/communication with the team or any human (??)...
@huaweihonor7714, what do you mean? We are all on camera, so it's face-to-face. We're not co-located, though
@@ScrumMastered i mean IN PERSOIN
Nice gamer keyboard
Sorry but is that a camera on the wall? If yes why? Was it required by your employer to have one or personal preference.
The black thingy on the wall is just a wall mount for a light that I don't use anymore. I should really take it down. Apart from that I only have my main camera in front of me that I actively use.
@@ScrumMastered oh I see thanks
What is the pay for this job?
@balla2828, it depends. Consider it a non-entry position, usually requiring enough experience a team lead would have.
I'd love to have a job like you, can anyone give me some advice?

@1anre It's called reMarkable :) the best tool I ever bought!
Hey, did I see Supernote out there? 😊
Not sure since I don't know what supernote is :) maybe you meant reMarkable?
@@ScrumMastered Yeah, I meant the notepad. But I was sure it was the Supernote - the rival of reMarkable 😉
AI going to do this kind of spesifications maybe?
@Dogrunun_adresi, AI can help with research, info compilation, analysis, etc. But the people side of things is never going to be taken over. And as I've seen in my career over and over - all organizational problems are people problems.
I’m currently at uni doing a placement year as a software developer, but being a scrum master has always been a goal? what’s the best way to get there?

@monkmelodies-relaxmusic2339, no, actually, my contract got extended indefinitely
Are some scrum masters remote working??
It was definitely the case during the 2020-2022 years. Now more and more people going back to the office. But many companies still have distributed dev teams so a Scrum Master role in this case would be remote as well.
Hi Mam...how to apply jobs for Scrum Master in foreign country. Please do helpms
It depends on the country. Look for local job posting websites.
A scrum master work 30 minutes per day
Thanks for the amazing video. Could you share that presentation, would be cool to see that
Oh, it's actually available in my store: store.scrummastered.com/products/presentation-agile-assessment

what is scrum?
I have this video where I explain it: scrummastered.com/blog/scrum-in-5-minutes-from-professional-scrum-trainer/

😂
Oh, look, another Scrum hater who doesn't know what he's talking about. Based on another comment you left, you don't even attend your team meetings.
@@ScrumMastered I don’t attend pointless meetings. You’re absolutely right
As I said above, you have no idea what you are talking about.
But at least you admit that you have no idea what the purpose of those meetings are and you are unwilling to learn.
It's easier to blame "the system" when the real problem is how you are doing it.
Imagine you go to a fitness instructor because you want to lose some weight and get some muscle. He tells you that you need to exercise 1 hour a day. But as you start doing it, your motivation dwindles. It's hard. It requires patience and commitment. You don't have it. 3 months later you complain that you didn't build any muscle. So your response is: "this instructor is useless, exercising is pointless".
Many people who blame Scrum or a Scrum Master for all their problems do exactly that. They are unwilling to do the things right and then wonder why their job sucks.
And before you say "I love my job, it's just this stupid Scrum that makes my job hell". Let me ask you this: do you love just sitting in a silo and doing your thing (like coding all day)? Cause while the company hired you for this skill, they actually expect you to be able to deliver on a higher scale, not just your single task, and that requires you to effectively work as part of a team - this is what Scrum is trying to help you do smoother.
Damn.. that got long 😂 Sunday mornings, man
