A legend among my friends: The 5/5 elvish mystic. Turn 1 you play a forest, then drop a mystic. Turn 2, you play titanic growth and swing for 5. Continue until you win.
This is why I play Magic. I absolutely love when someone can pull off ridiculous combos that are really stupid and somehow crush everyone with a five-color deck. Sure, I play Commander, but that's what Commander is built for! Cheeky shit!
As embarrassing as getting hit with Elvish mystic you say? Back during RTR block standard I won several games because they hadn't anticipated Elvish Mystic attacking (and getting bloodrushed by two Ghor-Clan Rampagers). I ended up earning a reputation as the guy that's terrifying to play combat against, which resulted meant all my surprise factor was gone.
My roommate saw the Harambe on my screen for the video so I grabbed my dual deck box and basically slammed the box on my desk and said "decks out for Harambe."
Des, there is one reason that netdecks will stay around forever: it makes the metagame simple. Without a whole storm of people netdecking, and each and every person has a homebrew in a fantastical way, making sideboards, intelligent plays, and just predicting what the opponent will have as a sideboard would be a lot harder, since there is very dissimilar decks in the store. It may make games a lot more interesting, more like a cube, but I would want to understand what I’m facing. I don’t netdeck personally, but I would not want to be in a world without netdecks.
OOOOMMMMMGGGGG I forgot to re-add that to the 2nd recording of the video from the original script. Because I used the cheapest, most awful, terrible, craptastic, easily-ripping sleeves for it that were bright yellow :P
I'm learning a lot about Magic from you. Been playing about 6 months, and I like the low mana deck idea. My mono red is built that way, and it's been doing pretty well. Thanks for another great video!
Yea I love military lintel decks. I have one myself that uses cloud fin raptors and goes a more bounce and counter spell route than yours but it's pretty solid.
I don't quite understand how this deck got it's name. I did however share this with everyone I know and we got a good laugh out of it LOL I am gonna go build this deck
Hi Des! I've been watching you for a little while and have just fallen in love (no homo) with you and your content. I just am lost for words. Keep making vids like this!!!! Can't stop watching
I built a commander deck that was similar. The whole deck was unblockable creatures or blockers you could not let through. I once managed to get a 7/7 unblockable with infect by my 5th turn.
i can add a single card that will fix this deck and also make it broken as balls. elixir of life. or whatever its called. shuffle your graveyard into your library. you gain 5 life. elixir of immortality/life or whatever ends up in your graveyard and then back in your deck. with loads of creatures on the battlefield plus other spells you end up just shuffling very specific over and over again.
After seeing your deck, I would not be surprised that it won those first 4 matches, since the decks you played against sounded like control decks. I remember playing against one of my friends with my competitive legacy miracles deck because he wanted to see it in action, and he beat me with his modern burn deck since aggro has an inherent advantage against control even when it comes to different formats. I have always been a big advocate of looking at your local meta to see what types of decks you should run. Just because it got top 8 at an SCG event, does not mean that it is the best deck ever at your LGS since the local meta could be vastly different. At my LGS, if I am expecting a lot of people to play Jund, I would probably bring my merfolk deck since merfolk pretty much hard counter Jund, and so on and so forth. I am just saying this because most of the decks that I have are netdecks, since I did get them off of the web. What makes me and plenty of my other friends different from your view of netdeckers is that I usually understand why I lost a match, and, if it was an error due to how I played the deck, I would practice more with that deck to learn even more of the interactions and synergies that could come up in a game. I do not intend for this to make you mad or anything of that sort, but I do want to give you an example of a netdecker that is not like any of the ones you have see or played against at your LGS. Thank you for reading this, and your old standard deck looks pretty sweet.
I'm actually really considering building this deck because my LGS isn't from hell and I want to try it and see how it does. Just hope I don't deck myself
Honestly, I would take out 1 fate fortold, 1 military intelligence, and 1 font of fortunes to put in 3 day's undoing to get that graveyard and hand situation fixed, but that kills the nighthowlers, so I'll just use them for bestow. Using this deck for casual at my school against netdeckers that get op as balls goblin decks, so I hope that this makes em cry
I went to an extended fnm and surgically extracted relentless rats out of someone's deck .... they looked really happy. I also managed to win quite a few games of a modern fnm (placed 2nd) by swinging in with a birds of paradise, fun times!
I actually made a deck like this when my friend was playing aggro and the same thing happened. Eventually, bc we played modern, I threw in lab maniac and it went pretty wellish.
des what does this have to do with bananas? Does that name makes no sense is blue and black bananas are not blue can you please explain why the deck is called this
Ik this is late, but one time my bro had a complete board wipe, lands, creatures, artifacts, everything. Even live total down to one. The other opponent got a forest and an elvish mystic, and swung until everyone died XD
So, I know this is kindof a necropost, but I only pretty much play causal, and my friends and I play a lot of star, so I wanted to try to make this in monocolor. I think I pulled it off in green with elves, but wanted to make sure to give you credit so I linked you in it. If you want, feel free to check it out here: tappedout.net/mtg-decks/this-banana-is-too-green-to-eat/
Soooo...
Baleful strix but that's the entire deck?
I like it.
A legend among my friends: The 5/5 elvish mystic. Turn 1 you play a forest, then drop a mystic. Turn 2, you play titanic growth and swing for 5. Continue until you win.
#bananasoutforharambe
#DecksBuiltForHarambe
#magic:theHarambeBannanaGathering
fantastic video, will be building foiled out version. But im still curious why its the banana deck
make a dank modern version
#decksoutforharambe
not gonna lie. the random death metal just jump scared me a little....
#Metal4Harambe
+Robby Carr ah someone with a clue
So, can this be made into a pauper deck? It seems very viable.
This is why I play Magic. I absolutely love when someone can pull off ridiculous combos that are really stupid and somehow crush everyone with a five-color deck. Sure, I play Commander, but that's what Commander is built for! Cheeky shit!

FINALLY this is the video i've been waiting for
someone brought this thing to a modern event at my lgs

I have one question. Why is this deck called the "banana" deck?
OOOOMMMMMGGGGG I forgot to re-add that to the 2nd recording of the video from the original script. Because I used the cheapest, most awful, terrible, craptastic, easily-ripping sleeves for it that were bright yellow :P
+DesolatorMagic so, they peeled like a banana. *budum tiss*
'Mana base was crap by then, but I think the fetch lands were legal back then' -DesolatorMagic, 2016

Yea I love military lintel decks. I have one myself that uses cloud fin raptors and goes a more bounce and counter spell route than yours but it's pretty solid.
FINALLY. Been waiting for this video for like forever.
this deck is still possible. i've been working on another version of this in standard. the new kaladesh vehicles should do good
I wonder if you could upgrade it and port it for modern. Maybe............
I am gonna run this in modern. It's great.
In the case of board wipes, you just activate multiple font of fortunes and use the card draw from enchanted dying creatures.
cid7707
HEY IDIOT. This isn't a modern deck and it isn't a competitive deck. Listen to the video.
Yeah, It's actually a fun deck to have, I casually play it with my friends and have a sort of past standard, BYOS sort of deal. It's really fun.
I love everything about this video, made my night, thanks.
sideboard one copy of elixir of immortality
Don't think it was legal in that standard
What's the song at 0:48
Edit: nevermind, found it.
Fit For a King - Pissed Off
7:03 have not seen that trident before. Old school player here. However it would go great in my sirens call, festival deck.
Decks out for Harambe
you reamind me of my early years in magic
seems cool. I played these sets back when I was around 8 and it wqs so much fun. I wish I could have used this deck!
Do I see a new commander deck idea?
I don't quite understand how this deck got it's name. I did however share this with everyone I know and we got a good laugh out of it LOL I am gonna go build this deck
So maybe take out a tiny bit of card draw and add in foul tounged shriek?
Uh ... any thoughts for retweaking this deck for frontier? Possibly using Sphinx's Tutelage as a wincon?
how do you deal with big first strike trample creatures
I was running thermo Izzit at a eldritch moon pre release 2-headed giant tourney and the game took so long that I draw out because of too many turn
you could stop if conceivably use shield of emeria with the amulet to drop it turn 4
This deck sounds amazing. I want to make it now.
You should add some relentless rats to it, now that it isn't standard legal.
"It's like getting hit with an Elvish Mystic" lmao
i can add a single card that will fix this deck and also make it broken as balls.
elixir of life. or whatever its called. shuffle your graveyard into your library. you gain 5 life. elixir of immortality/life or whatever ends up in your graveyard and then back in your deck. with loads of creatures on the battlefield plus other spells you end up just shuffling very specific over and over again.

regarding the you have to draw 7 but only have 2 you draw as many as possible and then lose as a state based action
I finally recreated a Banana Deck in standard. www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/676728#paper
Des this concept was essentially what I played in standard.
Finally des, the deck to conquer worlds
i thought that you only lose from not being able to draw a card if it is during your draw step
alex richman Naw it's at any time. It's the win con for my Legacy deck 👌
There was a fetch land in those colours: Polluted delta from khans.
is that banana font available?
ever thought of putting one laboratory maniac in there? it's 3 mana but if you would draw a card and you don't have one to draw then you win the game
Music taste on point
This is why I have Day's Undoing in all my decks...
now that I'm just now chiming in. Why don't you put invisible stalkers in the deck? cause they are two drops?
So how much is the total cost of the deck?
EL1TEK1LLER001 around 40 bucks without urborg. This price includes complete foil
Oh okay ty and you play league?
Getting asked all the time. Yes i have from time to time but its mainly because the name is very identical with my real
Oh lol that's cool
Did you just make a boros deck without red or white?
Pretty much.
boros and dimir did a fusion dance
whats that deathcore song played at 0.45
Oh, I added it to the description.
+DesolatorMagic you may wanna try beartooth?
+Christian Choo yesss love them they are so good
I'm actually really considering building this deck because my LGS isn't from hell and I want to try it and see how it does. Just hope I don't deck myself

Do you think this would be good in modern?
I still miss Harambe
Is that the Golgothian Sylex on font of fortunes??
Idk if that's legal in standard. just the first card that came to mind
Chasm Skulker?
I went to an extended fnm and surgically extracted relentless rats out of someone's deck .... they looked really happy. I also managed to win quite a few games of a modern fnm (placed 2nd) by swinging in with a birds of paradise, fun times!
Add inverter of truth to your deck to prevent milling
Is it useable in modern?
Please give us more messed up stories from your local gaming store; it is one of the only timesI have legitimately ROFL
I actually made a deck like this when my friend was playing aggro and the same thing happened. Eventually, bc we played modern, I threw in lab maniac and it went pretty wellish.
OMG... Love fit for a king!
My new pioneer deck
Reddit had a field day on you yesterday... people can't seem to understand that more than 5 POV are wanted to see from more sides of the game...
You got 1 card to replace the blocker because you spend one card to have that effect.
That is very similar to an Edric EDH deck. Very nice!
literally this is the reason why white isn't allowed to have card draw in its color pie
So tempted to buy it!
Good ol' lurker
oops didn't know it wasn't for modern
des what does this have to do with bananas? Does that name makes no sense is blue and black bananas are not blue can you please explain why the deck is called this
I sleeved the deck in banana colored sleeves when I built it :P
This deck looks hilariously evil.
Ik this is late, but one time my bro had a complete board wipe, lands, creatures, artifacts, everything. Even live total down to one. The other opponent got a forest and an elvish mystic, and swung until everyone died XD
and if you want to change this into a casual deck throw a set of tuteleges in there
Fit for a king my favorite band
You can say this deck is pretty... Bananas
Seen it. U/B faeries from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor.
Is there an xmage vid with this because I would love to see that
What does it have to do with bananas though? More mtg lingo?
The rule is if you would have to draw a card when there are none in your library, you lose the game, I believe.
You know what's even funnier? Unblockble Cipher mill. It's kinda ridiculous, and for those UA-camrs out there whose interests I've just piqued, I got my homebrewed list right here!
1 Paranoid Delusions
1 Sage's Row Denizen
1 Codex Shredder
1 Dreadwaters
2 Notion Thief
2 Woodlot Crawler
2 Cryptic Serpent
2 Trespasser's Curse
2 Warped Physique
3 Triton Shorestalker
3 Slither Blade
3 Compelling Argument
3 Pilfered Plans
3 Sphinx's Tutelage
3 Far (Far/Away)
3 Chronic Flooding
3 Hidden Strings
3 Crypt Incursion
8 Swamp
2 Dimir Guildgate
9 Island
Thoughts and ideas are accepted, plz comment if you got an input
If you put in some elixirs of immortality, then it would be unstoppable.
sounds like a nice strategy for yuriko EDH....
this deck is bananas
i feel like zulaport cutthroat would help this deck since you want your own creatures to die. you gain life and deal damage at the same time.
I literally have 100's of pharikas chosen, it is crazy!
Could you make a video where you actually play this deck against someone? :)
why is it called banana?
XD sounds awesome!....... but why is its name the "Banana" deck? XD
Found my new frontier deck.
Awesome idea but run close to 80 cards and you may never run into a decking problem
Can it handle mill?
Can it handle first strike?
Also, the deck looks really cool!
I'm gonna make a list for modern brb
I like your music taste...you should check out Slaughter to Prevail :P
