    i love that this upsets the orthodoxy that believes *truth is not a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to a select few who's job is to inform everyone else*

      Silica sand balances the tire, as long as the sand stays dry

    How can you judge how much silica sand per tire and size? I would like to know how to judge it so I can safely balance them. I currently have the same tire changer as you. Thanks

      you need more on a bigger tire, for small car tires, just a few small handfuls of sand works fine, it’s not super critical but think about a lead wheel weigh, most importantly the sand needs to stay dry.

    Wow amazing...an oil as a lubricant probably will make them to last forever...

      not really, I believe oil actually breaks rubber down, so don’t use a lot of oil

      They use it as a filter media for water filters, I guess any sand would work, you add more if it’s a bigger tire less for a smaller tire like mine, they also make balancing beads for this same purpose but the sand does the exact same thing, my dad was a trucker for years and they used to put 1 golf ball in each tire, somehow the sand beads or whatever goes where it needs to after 5 or 10 mph and keeps the tires in perfect balance, it always works for me and I have done it for about 15 years or more

      @@frugallandlord6974 thanks for the reply. i did a small handful and a half like you did with sand in my front two tires, but i still have a little wobble in the steering wheel. didnt mess with the back two tires but i wouldnt think the back two tires (if out of balance) would cause that. its a small car, toyo camry. any ideas?

      I think you got enough sand and as long as it stayed dry it should work perfectly, actually much better than if they were balanced with wheel weights.

      Gui Yan I guess it would depend on your area, you may have to ask around locally, some new tire dealers will also sell used tires if you ask

    Does silica sand slowly eat away interior rubber?

    • @frugallandlord6974
      @frugallandlord6974  3 роки тому +1

      Gui Yan no you will never have a problem if the sand stays dry, it doesn’t seem to cause any extra wear on anything

    It's not suggested that you use beads or sand is regular tires on a small passenger vehicle, rather they are more for use on large tires where the high and low spots of the tires are more prominent, it's also something most people use along side wheal weights, you can buy a bubble leavle for balancing tires at home and just use stick on weights, but there is no guarantee the sand or beads wont all collect at one side of the tire in a quick take off and cause unwanted vibration.

      have you driven with a small amount of silica sand in your tires? I have been doing it for 10 years, as long as the sand stays dry it will stay balanced, this is not an experiment, I believe I have proven it to work, and I guarantee the sand can not collect on one side of the tire!

      Static balance can be achieved.
      How do you achieved dynamic balance

      the guarantee is physics. i've used counteract beads and ride-on in motorcycle tires for the last 8 or so years. ride on is 95% ethylene glycol, so i may just put hand sanitizer in my next batch. even better than knowing it will work is knowing how upset the orthodoxy will be.
