In this time lapsed painting tutorial, I will show how I painted this painting of black capped chickadees. I started with a 12 x 12 linen panel that was painted with a gray acrylic base and then spray painted with a metallic spray paint using a stencil to create a fun, contemporary background. After I did a loose sketch of the birds with a pencil, I started blocking in the painting with oils. Watch as I layer and build volume and depth in each bird and give the branch they are perched upon color and light

When i saw this on Instagram, for some reason I thought this was painted on a designed cloth, seeing how you stenciled on painted board to get that effect was pretty neat I thought. The painting...Wow! You are so good at these birds I honestly think you could paint them in your sleep. You are indeed a master at bringing birds and animals to life! On another note, I have always struggled at painting trees and limbs...to see how easy you threw them down and made them look perfect, almost makes me mad...of course I'm kidding! Beautiful work, Suzanne! I didn't notice your signature on this piece?

Lovely rendition, just to let you know - over the pond in the UK, we call these birds 'tits' or old english 'titmice'
Hi Vic....thanks so much for watching and for your compliment on my piece. Yes, we have little birds we call tits here too! The tufted titmouse is a bird that is often seen here in my "neck of the woods" and are often seen with chickadees in back yard feeders. I love them.
