      Thanks so much ! And thanks too for watching. I first need to say this…..I HATE WATER MIXABLE OILS! Ha ha ha. I do not allow my students to use them in my studio ….thats how much I hate them. They do not behave like oils at all. You can not interchange or mix them with actual oils and creates confusion. With that said….you can use any brushes with them as long as you wash them out real well after words. Use something like Murphy’s Oil Soap to clean them . I hope that helps.

You must keep them separate from your actual oils …don’t keep them in your same box. I would be curious to hear what you think about them. What would NOT do is buy a bunch because they are on major sale. I would hate for you to get stuck with a ton product you do not like. Happy Painting.

    I know I'm a year late, but hi Susanne. I just tried out Eric's paint. The amount of pigment and lack of fillers feels great. Just a bit over buttery for my preference. I use a lot of Cobalt and 1/3 of the way through a 150ml tube of his. It is still pushing out massive amounts of oils every time I put paint out. I'm like, draining it off my palette to hold the mess down. I bought a small tube of Mars Violet and it seemed normal amount of oil around it. I'm now wondering if he if oiling the larger tubes more before he fills with paint because paint with only oil and pure pigment tends to dry out in the tube.Thats been the complaint with Rublev. (use it or loose it.) I paint mostly 40 - 48" inch canvas and I multi-layer 70% palette knife/30% brush strokes, so I'm always using a bit of paint. Leads me to thinking about learning to mix my own pigments. Sometimes I love super buttery when I see something and want to grab 2 colors and mix in a hurry before the imagined tone leaves my head. Most time I want total control of just how wet so I can drag it for an effect or easily lay a wet detail on top without disturbing it. Old Holland much dryer than MH. I can't justify $250 for a 150ml of OH cads. If I mix my own, I would have control of stiffness and however many small tubes I think I will use instead of one large tube. The extra craziness we are now being confronted with is this new energy source they want and will make for the masses to travel. (battery) They are mining all of our paint minerals (especially cobalt) like it was oil. Black Gold Texas Tea! Thinking I should now be hoarding bulk pigments before the price goes to the moon! I'm currently searching for someone selling large quantities at a decent discount. (especially cobalt) These paint producers seem to know what they got and only offer very small quantities of raw pigment. With exception of earth pigments and mica. I'm not that concerned with running out of dirt and marble.

    • @SuzanneBarrettJustisArtist
      @SuzanneBarrettJustisArtist 3 місяці тому

      Well hello L Twig! I have to say wow….thanks for such a great comment…. Let me see if I can reply back and actually make sense. Ha ha. Firsts, I get it ….Blue Ridge Paints tend to be buttery …which allows me to not use any extra linseed or mediums. I tend to only buy the smaller tubes so I have no experience to speak on BR’s larger ones. The smaller tubes that I have purchased never seemed runny. I wonder if it’s just a “batching thing” ? I like painting large too….i have done some large 48 x 60’s and 60x72’s. In that case, I generally use large brushes! If I palette paint on…I tend to use too much. I use lots of different paints and Windsor Newton is a go to for some larger paintings in the beginning of a piece and as it progress ….i switch to some of my More specific colors that are often mixes in with my WN paints. The WN PAINTS are the ones I buy in larger tubes. Does that make sense? As for mining of minerals …wow, I guess I should educate myself on that subject. I use Cobalt too, but Ultramarine is my go to Blue. Thanks so much for such great input on this subject. I look forward to hearing more from you as I am sure the other viewers will glean a lot from your insight as well. Thanks again!!

      @@SuzanneBarrettJustisArtist Makes great since to me! I buy large tubes of Utrecht, WN, Grumbacher or whatever is on sale for my 1st coat of blocking in on larger canvases. I even buy large tubes of "hue" for that purpose. I don't like to scrimp on paint but try to not waste the expensive stuff. I only use a drop or 2 of medium when my blobs of paint or mixes start drying out. Medium changes the sheen and drives me nuts while trying to see if it is working with the rest. Though I highly dilute my linseed oil with spirits. Yes, mixing expensive paint into the cheaper ones. Just bring the richness up a little when needed. I learned my lesson about using cheap mixes for shadows. Just because "shadow" doesn't mean dull looking mixes. Have you tried Barite instead of Titanium in shadow mixes yet? It's like zero opaque. I think it's wonderful. It holds the hue while creating more transparency. Stupid Titanium changes the hues because it is really the brightest super opaque blue. So much to learn, it never ends. Hopefully! Thanks , Happy painting!

    Stunning!!! Exactly how long did it take to paint this?

      Hi Judith. Thanks so much! Yes, this painting probably took me 5 days in studio to paint. That’s roughly 26 hours….between students . The background was simplified so it was just really on the bird and the rock. It was a fun piece to paint. Thanks Judith for watching ! Happy Painting

    you should check out Otmar Libert, I know you would want to dance.

      Yes! Katherine! I actually am familiar with his music on my classic guitar station I listen too. I love his music and you are right….it gets me hopping! Do you dance too when you paint??

      @@SuzanneBarrettJustisArtist I sway more than dance. But I love music while I paint. Rhapsody in Blue, American in Paris, the sound tracks to the Transormer movies, Sung Ha Jung guitar music, Altan, Crosby, Steels, and Nash, the Kingston Trio... all kinds of music.
