Wood pecker pls.
I'd like to paint a white or blue heron.
The chickadee is adorable!
That's very kind of you, thank you 😊
Ok me of the Best wild life teacher on youtube .❤️
Thank you so much Saima, that's very kind of you, Paul 🎨
I'm learning so much watching you paint. Thank you so very much for sharing your talent.😂
You are so welcome Ann, thank you very much for watching. 😊
A Greater Spotted Woodpecker, they are so handsome 😍
They are superb birds and it is one I have painted as a video tutorial on my website. In this case it was a youngster with the red patch on the top of the head. You can see a thumbnail of it within my website video index. devonartist.co.uk/tutorial-index/
Maybe I can also paint the adult as well. Paul ;-)
That would be great 😊
Whoa, incredible.
It is like watching a bird hatch and dry off and become a beautiful creature. I just started acrylics because heard it was easier. 🙄
Oh boy, wish I would get your beautiful results. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Sybil, you can do it as well! Acrylics are a lovely medium to work with but are somewhat different to watercolours. Watercolour have to be built up from light to dark, with the natural properties of watercolour being translucent. This allows the white of the paper to sort of shine through which is wonderful. Thank you for commenting, Paul ;-)
Brilliant ‼️
Thank you 😊
You are amazing👏🏻😪
Thank you so much!!
Absolutely gorgeous! How about a northern Cardinal? So brilliant in the winter!
Great idea Pauline! I have painted the male in the past for not for many years, so a good possibility! Paul 🎨
That's a pwetty wittle boidie.
Complicated too. Far more than one would think at a glance. The sides of the head and the feathers on the body really, for me, makes the painting. Thank you for giving me some idea of how to do it. After I've watched it five or six times and it begins to sink in....I may try it. I'm losing my wife to cancer and can't really think straight. Even though she's on a heavy dose of pain killers some sounds cause her to smile in her sleep. She likes bird calls. She smiles thru the pain. She's a special lady.
Hi Scarz, thank you for your kind words. I do hope this helps you to not just paint this lovely bird, but also focus your mind on a painting rather than everything happening around you at the moment. It's a good way to sort of go into your own little place for a rest, from all the things happening around you. Enjoy painting, Paul 🎨
A Raven, thanks
Thank you Julio :-)
How about the pileated woodpecker. It’s such a unique almost prehistoric looking bird
Hi Carol, yes someone mention this bird specie as well and one I had to look up. Not one we have here in the UK but what a lovely bird! Thank you, that is now going on my list, Paul :-)
Fantastic!! Please let me know which white color you are using in feathers
Hi Mayur, this is one by SAA so one of their own brands. The website address is :-www.saa.co.uk
Just today I decided to have a go at painting some of the birds that visit my garden, I started with one of my favourites, the long tailed tit, very similar to this chickadee. I thought I hadn't done too badly until I found this video.. he he.. but I've 👍and subscribed so I can learn how to do it properly.
How about doing a magpie? Quite beautiful when you look closely.
Hi Toni, yes Magpies arde lovely birds, we get them in our garden here in North Devon most mornings. It's a good thought and a possible video project, especially showing how to paint those lovely irridesent colours. I do have a playlist for painting feathers if it helps you a little. Try the Wren first to get a few more ideas. bit.ly/3o5cANS
Thank you, Paul 🎨
Thanks Paul 🙂 I watched the feather video straight after I'd commented on this one. I've watched the wren one, then a longer wren one and a short one about a robin, that's what I'd already got drawn out to paint next. Great videos, so helpful, great tips and a pleasure to watch.
Allô Paul, I’ve recently find your painting tutorial 😊 and watched many of them on You Tube. I love your precise style.... and the quality of tutorial on line. You are very generous in sharing lots of precious information, I love your tone of voice, which is an important factor...anyway for me :). I love painting birds, I would certainly like to paint along a lovely hummingbird....my favourite💞. I’ve subscribe to your free membership and will soon subscribe your Patreon. Many thanks for sharing such a beautiful talent of yours🙏
Hi Jacinthe thank you very for signing up to my free membership on my website. Yes, my Patreon channel www.patreon.com/TheDevonArtist has the same videos I have on my personal website devonartist.co.uk/ so whichever you prefer to use. I have to admit though my members do find my personal website easier to navigate around the videos. ;-)
Painting all types of wildlife in watercolour is something I love to do and as you have guessed birds are one of my favourites. The Hummingbird, see my time-lapse version of the main video here: bit.ly/2JJH6Op was a beautiful bird to paint, with its iridescent colours and amazing markings, I must paint a different one sometime as well as another full video. Thank you for asking and your very kind comment, Paul 🎨
Great painting of a lovely bird Paul. I'd like to be able to paint a Kestrel.
You should Steve! I do have a video tutorial on my website for my paid members there on how to paint a Kestrel, all in real-time from start to finish. Here is to one of my pages where you can scroll through the painting I have completed with my video lessons, including the Kestrel. devonartist.co.uk/memberships/#Tutorials
I also have a couple of videos on here as well which may help with painting this lovely bird. bit.ly/3qc5KXO
Hope this helps, Paul 🎨

A raven would be nice. One with really shiny night blue feathers.
Ohh, I like that idea Cleopatra, thank you. Paul 🎨
Beautiful!! I would like you to paint a superb fairy-wren. They are adorable.
Now this is one of those lovely little Wrens that I have painted before and intend on painting again. We are certainly thinking on the same lines Alex. Paul :-)
Your background is beautiful... do you have a separate video?
Hi Raj, yes there is but that is for my members on my www.devonartist.co.uk website. I do however have a playlist here on UA-cam on how to paint watercolour backgrounds which is bit.ly/3oYsrz0 Hope this helps and thank you for watching, Paul 🎨
Thanks Paul! You are a darling!
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
My pleasure Carol 😊
Are all your full length teaching videos on patreon or your website?
Hi Tom they are on both websites, all my 80+ tutorial videos are the same on both. Some do find my own website a little easier to navigate compared to Patreon though. Below are the links, and thank you for asking, Paul 🎨

There are any number of New Zealand birds that you could paint. Tui, Kereru, piwakawaka to start 👍❤
There are some really good suggestions there LadyPene, I will have to look these up on Google. Paul :-)
