Dont forget Fallout 3's Miss Launcher. Seeing in your inventory you may think its a missile launcher, but instead the missile slowly slides out, landing basically at your feet. You can throw grenades further

    • @Postoronniy
      @Postoronniy 5 місяців тому +12

If you angle the Miss Launcher, it will push the missile (effectively a grenade) out in a ballistic arc. You can treat it as a close-range mortar, which can be useful sometimes to engage enemies over obstacles. It also deals increased damage compared to standard missile launcher (by 20% IIRC), justifying that as propulsion charge fuel explosion, which is expended in the normal launch.

    • @truekurayami

Miss launcher is a more appropriate entry for this list from fallout the the K9000 and it's upgrade. It is frustrating to use until you learn how to actually use it and then it still feels disappointing compared to the other explosives options, where the K9000 is a lovable companion even with it's disturbing origin, but that is still tame compared to other things, like the emotionally dependent semi-aware stealth suit you get in the same DLC.

I feel the Lawgiver from Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death deserves an honorable mention. It's pretty comic-accurate, and not a bad weapon...except for all of the limitations the game puts on it:
    1. The game is a Halo-clone, meaning you only have two weapon slots, and you can't drop your Lawgiver so that permanently takes up one of the slots.
    2. Ammo for the Lawgiver is pretty sparse, and doesn't carry over between stages so if you have a surplus upon reaching the end of one level you lose it all once you start the next one.
    3. The settings all consume different amounts of ammo, with the more destructive ones (like incendiaries and high-ex) devouring a good quarter or sometimes half of your reserve. Combine that with how sparse ammo is for the Lawgiver and you have a recipe for never wanting to use the gun to its fullest potential.
    4. On top of point 3, the game's 'justice system' also penalizes you for using the more destructive settings on human enemies (which are in pretty much every level) so half the time you're stuck with either basic full-auto or armor piercing, as anything else risks lowering your justice meter and triggering a Non-Standard Game Over.
    5. Multiplayer is even worse since the game also includes the comic's function of the Lawgiver exploding if anyone other than an authorized judge tries to fire it. This means if you're playing as the non-judge faction you can't do the usual thing of grabbing a downed opponent's weapons, as doing so will severely damage you or outright kill you the instant you pull the trigger.

Hey, The Liberator is awesome! It's a time-traveling weapon. The real one having been invented in 1942, and magically ending up in a game taking place in 1918. Oops! Also, it was purpose-built for one rebel member to take out one occupying _individual_ enemy, so that their better weapons and gear could be stolen. The Liberator then given over to another rebel so he could do the same thing with it. By the time the last round in the storage portion of the handle (not an actual magazine) was used up, the Liberator was ready for the scrap-heap. Each one intentionally made very cheap from junk metal, so that millions could be mass produced and given to French rebels fighting German troops.
In reality, very few were air-dropped into occupied France. The program largely abandoned, even though the Liberator functioned as intended. A few years later, most of the ones that weren't melted down for scrap metal, were air-dropped into Asian nations to rebels friendly with the U.S. (Basically, the single-shot Liberator was never intended for battlefield use.)

After this list I keep thinking about the purposely bad guns of Borderlands. My least favorite was the Bane. It was actually a good gun, but the incessant screaming from it was awful. I remember another one that was also good, but it would slip out of your hand randomly and you had to pick it back up in the heat of battle. I also didn't like one gun that caused an explosion of acid. It was another good gun, but I kept dying because of the friendly fire from that one. And finally, there's one named after Handsome Jack and while it is fine as a gun, but it's another talking gun and a little of Jack's sarcasm goes a long way.

An honorable mention I'd like to make is the sawed-off shotgun from Tom Clancy's The Division (the first one, and probably the second one too). It's a cover-shooter game, where the best distance to fight your enemies is the maximum effective distance of your weapon of choice. You get two primaries and a pistol, with primary options ranging from assault rifles, snipers, LMGs, and even SMGs. The main draw of long vs short range is that long range weapons are typically slower to shoot, but have higher damage per shot, while something like an SMG has incredibly high burst damage at dangerous ranges. There is very little reason to ever swap to a pistol, because they are short-to-medium range with less than stellar damage, with their main claim to fame being infinite ammo, which is a joke on account of the fact that most players will never experience running out of ammo if they aren't trying to. The sawed-off shotgun makes this worse on account of being a pistol-slot weapon, and needing to be within three steps of melee range to deal any damage. It's not even that terrible at its intended use distance, it's just got so many reasons why you would use something else that it's kind of hilarious to see someone using one in combat.

I liked the Cyberdog Gun in FalloutNV, it was perfect for chewing through the massive amounts of .38 ammo stockpiled by that point in game, along with Rex meant we could have TWO dogs!
If I had to pick a bizarre weapon that is still a gun and actually bad at shooting, I'd probably do the Recharger Rifle. It refills ammo so you don't need bullets, however it's excessively weight heavy, does minimal damage and takes 7 full seconds to reload from empty. I'd suggest using it as a weighted club if it weren't for the fusion reactor being the reason for the weight, so you never know, a misfire could also mean a little nuclear explosion in your face in the midst of battle if it's anything like the cars in game.

I don’t know if this counts, but Eight’s Palette from Splatoon 3’s Side Order DLC is the last palette to get in the DLC and can only be obtained after you have run through the Spire of Order with the other 11 Palettes, getting the three Locker Keys for each Palette with each run. And then you will unlock Eight’s Palette, so you have to do the Spire of Order one last time to get the Octo Shot Replica for the base game. But there’s a catch, as Eight’s Palette is resistant to Marina’s hacks, so depending on how many hacks you have active, the number of Color Chips you can put into Eight’s Palette goes down by 6. And another catch with Eight’s Palette, as unlike the other 11 Palettes, if you get taken out in the Spire of Order with Eight’s Palette, you can’t retry a run with Eight’s Palette by talking to Marina, so if you want to get a Badge that says you cleared the Spire of Order with every Palette, another Badge that shows you cleared the Spire of Order with Eight’s Palette with no hacks active, and you also want to torment yourself so you can get the Octo Shot Replica for the base game, you HAVE to do the Spire of Order with Eight’s Palette in ONE try! Thankfully, it took me four tries to do this and the fourth attempt was my winning attempt.

The K9000 is still much better than its "upgrade" the FIDO. Swapping its ammo type over to more powerful but rarer, more expensive, and (in Survival Mode) heavier .44 Magnum is bad enough, but it also drops all the mods for the K9000, which means that you've also lost the boost to fire rate and thus your damage output is actually worse.

It may be cruel to stuff a dog's brain into a gun, but what's done is done. Much crueler to leave it on the shelf instead of taking it for walkies.. it seems to enjoy the fighting as well. Also, I like to imagine that the courier takes it to someone that can build a body for it after the whole mess with the legion is over. It would have been nice if you could have used it to replace the brain from Rex in that one quest.

Plus, it leaves a lot of enemies at the threshold, making it easier for Second Wind.

Fun fact about the Zippy 3000: It's actually based on the real life gun, the Zip 22. It was a pet project from Douglas Donnelly, the head of USFA. It was so unsafe and so mechanically inept, it tanked the company six years later. I'll give it to the Cruelty Squad version, it's lore accurate.

There was another gun in cyberpunk 2077 that was infamous for how bad it was, basically it had two modes, a lethal mode and a non-lethal mode, and after picking one, you could use it for a while, and then it would automatically and permanently switch to the other mode. I remember a lot of people falling for this and being pissed that they now had a non-lethal gun.

I have seen FPSs (most recently, Diluvian Ultra) that actually are built around the idea of wanting to switch weapons to finish off an enemy, thus usually using at least two weapons in any given combat. (You can get this effect very easily in a Doom engine mod simply by ensuring any weapon is nearly useless against either armor or health and then making sure most enemies have both.) The Night Flyer wouldn't be out of place at all.

Little note about the Zip22 the Zippy3000 is based on. USFA used to be a highly respected company which made some of the highest quality reproductions of the Colt Single Action Army on the market. They then, inexplicably, decided to stop making their massively successful SAA replicas, sell all of their tooling, and make the Zip22, a gun which looks like it was designed for some sort of weird alien race with fingers coming out of the palms of their hands. It is also even more unreliable than the game makes it seem. Ian from Forgotten Weapons did a video shooting one, and could barely get it to cycle 2 rounds back to back. So, I can safely say that the only thing the Zip22 ever killed is the US Firearms company itself. For some reason, they also tried to market it as a possible underbarrel attachment for ARs. Because I know the first thing I would want on my semi automatic rifle is a semi automatic pistol in a weaker caliber. Doing so also made the Zip22 a short barreled rifle, legally speaking, meaning you would have to pay a $200 tax stamp to the federal government and wait, at the time, well over a year for an extensive ATF background check before you could legally use the components that came with the gun you already had to attach it to the other bigger gun you also already had. ATF logic, everybody
