To put into perspective just how OP the Smart Pistol is in Titanfall 2, the lore of the game says that it cannot be mass manufactured because of how bonkers expensive it is. During the home stretch of the campaign, you're literally firing BILLIONS of dollars worth of shots.
One of the best parts of the game. All the time you’ve spent wall running and shooting enemies finally peaking with you barely even having to aim and just wiping IMC dudes out
Bro, its less cost effective than the Predatory Lending in BL3. The automatic smg that fires literal money from your bank. Also how do characters in Borderlands hold like millions of dollars but it doesn't affect them at all like Steve and his probably billions of dollars all in his pockets
In some of the Devil May Cry games, Dante's starting sword is called Rebellion. While Dante gets more weapons over the course of his adventures, Rebellion can be used for pretty much the entirety of the game and is very versatile.
@@TheRedMage01and that’s the one game where the starting weapon isn’t the best. You very quickly get Alastor, which is Force Edge but with more abilities and access to Devil Trigger mode. Even when the Force Edge powers up into the Devil Sword Sparda, it still doesn’t have a DT to use.

@@3possumsinatrenchcoat we don't count "Hold your hand through a none existing story and giving you a helping hand you can't get rid of Pokémon" as games.
Such a great tool. When the aim of the game is precision cutting and the first thing they give you is a precision cutter. Why bother with any else ever again?
The Line cutter is my favorite. It’s like some one look at the plasma cutter and said “can I have a heavy weapons version?” I beat the whole game using just both.
The silverballer is the best weapen in pretty much every Hitman game. 47 almost always gets the silverballer right away and can usually upgrade it. In the most recent game, you unlock it in the first real map, so you basically start with it.
gotta disagree, while silverballers are definitely the best pistol and great for playing stealth, BUT if you wanna do run and gun playthrough any automatic gun like an SMG or Assault Rifle will outperform it.
Honestly, in so many games with optional stealth mechanics or melee insta-kills the starter knife (or equivalent thereof) is ludicrously powerful. Like in Far Cry 3 it’s fairly easy to chain melee kills and get rid of loads of enemies without ever needing to pull out a gun. It helps that melee kill animations usually give you invincibility frames.
The taser in Syphon Filter. It has unlimited range, drops any enemy silently, and if you’re a particularly sick puppy, sets enemies on fire if you zap them too long.
I don't know if any weapon in Doom Eternal could be considered best, but the starting shotgun remains useful through the whole game. Pick up the grenade launcher mod for it ASAP and it's an excellent and easy way to target demon weak points.
I’ve been going through one of my toughest times so far and the only comfort I’ve been getting recently is from the OutsideXbox family and I gotta say I love you guys so damn much ❤️ Thank you ❤
_Hexen_ mage starter weapon is a railgun with infinite ammunition. You don't even have to reload it. It just keeps on shooting. It may not hit hard as hard or as often as the turret gun on a _Halo_ Warthog, but it will eventually wreck enemies for you, no matter how tough they are.
Could also add "Grip" from Control. It's solid regardless, but becomes best when you get the mod that refunds ammo on hit. Add some fire rate and/or damage mods and grip can just endless send bullets into you enemies when you're not otherwise engaged flinging forklifts at them. Yes, technically all you weapons are alternate forms for "The service weapon" but that's plot, functionally they're different weapons.
The pistol you get at the start of The Last of Us Part II is great for the same reasons the silverballer is: You can use silencers, and it kills quickly if you land a good shot. It also helps in shooting legs out for easy kills with how much ammo they have
The Armoured Fans in the brilliant SteelRising is the default weapon for the Dancer class and it was awesome. It's alt ability was a shield with about 100% block and the components to level it up are easy to get. I only ditched them about 95% of the way through the game because I found the Labrys and Francisca that had the same abilities but was slightly more powerful (but not by much!).
Not a weapon, but the best starting armor in a video game was the Stalker Suit from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. You could find it in the starting area of the Cordon, but you had to know where to look. It was tucked away in an attic but the only way to access it was to make a rather hard jump from the roof of one building to another. Then, once you’re on the second roof, you have to go to the other side, find where part of the roof is missing, then crouch down right on the edge of the roof, and break the crate hidden there concealing the Stalker Suit. This armor was so good to have at the start of the game in fact, that the developers actually replaced it with the far less good (but better than nearly any other armor at the start of the game) Merc Suit in an early patch of the game.
Unpatched version doesn't update the armor durability bar and vanilla SOC has no repairs whatsoever, so it rapidly degrades into uselessness without you noticing.
Don’t know if this was ever mentioned, but the starting knife in Silent Hill Homecoming was easily the best weapon until you get the story mandated knife upgrade. It’s so counterintuitive that a buck knife beats a fire axe or shotgun, but there it is.
@@thatguyinthecorner4648 sharpness isn't everything though, a fire axe having more weight and momentum could have the dullest blade in the world and still cause more dmg than a knife. Try swinging the sharpest knife at a tree, then try swinging a dull axe at a tree, what does more dmg. A mace is duller than both and I would rather have a mace in combat than a knife cause smashing bones and skulls is a very effective way to maim and kill people.
If you havent put it in a video yet, the Predator bow from Crysis 3 is easily the best weapon in that game. Only weapon you can shoot and stay invisible, comes with tons of customizablity include different arrowheads, and you get it in the first mission. It is easily one of my favorite weapon in gaming.
Still surprised Polar Star from Cave Story wasn't a mentioned. It can fire about as fast as you can hit the attack button and doesn't have ammo to worry about, unlike a lot of your other weapons. Plus, if you hold onto it the whole game, you can swap it for the Spur, arguably the best gun in the entire game.
That one pub(bar) in Fallout 4 near where you fight Swan. I swear every time I go its like a place where I can get away and take break from all my worries where everybody knows my name and are always glad I came.
Not sure if it counts because it's all the same weapon, but Cal's single saber mode in Jedi Survivor remains incredibly useful throughout the entire game.
Seriously, the E-11 Blaster Rifle from Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight is absolutely brilliant. You don't start-start with it, but you get it from your second enemy, and it's your best friend from then on. You'll get Thermal Detonators but they're not great in a pitched battle, you'll get the crossbow which is finicky and the repeater whose damage output is fine but uses a ton of ammo. And there's a lot of slow and/or explosive weaponry which are situational. The Lightsaber should be your best friend but they hadn't got the lightsaber combat down yet, so really you're just tanking a bunch of shots to do what a gun could do from a distance. They're just useful against dark jedi. Give me an E-11 Blaster Rifle (aka Stormtrooper Rifle) and I'll take care of 95% of enemies in the game, the missile launcher and lightsaber are just for the walkers and dark jedi.
I was looking for this comment but then I saw ur talking about a different Star Wars game 😂, I was looking for this comment about the E-11 in Star Wars battlefront
I believe it's called the hellfire saber for Lightning from final fantasy 13. I'm sure that people would argue a different weapon but it's perfect for a standard playthrough. Lightning is proficient at magic and physical attacks so her balanced starter weapon is fantastic
Ah, the saw cleaver. Bloodborne combat given form. Simple, and visceral, yet with a few tricks that turn from dangerous to lethal. Also, use bolt paper!
Unless you choose the Hunter Axe like a proper intellectual. Good stopping power in his standard form, and delivers powerful sweeping attacks while transformed that can cleave multiple enemies in one go.
I found the Dispersion Pistol from the original Unreal to be pretty good throughout the game, in part as you get upgrades for it that increase its damage and its charge shot capacity.
Fun fact about the mk22, not only does it do all the things above, it can also be used as a sniper rifle if quickly and properly swapped from the binoculars into the first person view
The silenced pistol in The Rogue Warrior needs to get mentioned in at least one of these as it is absolutely broken due to how hilariously bad the enemy AI is in that game.
That entire weapon set is just obviously the strongest. Bonus damage while at or near full health in a game with so many healing effects, you're only ever going to have less than that just after taking a hit.
Weirdly watching the saw cleaver part reminded me of an important discussion: Top items that are insanely useful yet you always hoard. The fire and bolt papers immediately come to mind
Did someone already mention the M6D magnum from Halo: Combat Evolved? It’s got range, zoom, is fast shooting and actually pretty powerful (I surprised myself by dropping a couple of Hunters with it).
I think the thing with weapons in Bloodborne is that each weapon offers something unique, like a different swing or reach or damage type. So there are very few (if any?) examples of a weapon just being a straight upgrade - they're pretty much all viable. The thing that's a pain is if you want to play with a particular weapon for its unqiue moveset but you can't get it until late in the game.
It is mostly true, though people have broken down the damage dealt, the stagger power, the damage type, and other factors of every attack of each weapon. The DPS of the Cleaver is insane, with the way it attacks making it easy to use too, on top of the 20% damage bonus to beasts, and how spamming the L1 transform attack builds up the Beast Blood Pellet meter faster than anything in the game, able to kill bosses in secnds.
Actually never played with the saw cleaver in BB. I chose the axe, and it excelled magnificently in both crowd control and stunning power. The windup attack could even stun the old hunter Maria.
The first one I think of for this is Dragon's Dogma. Sort of. Stat-wise, the Rusted Weapons you start with are, and always will be, terrible. However, if you manage to scrape together the materials to upgrade them, or better yet kill a dragon and get them Dragonforged, then they become incredible support weapons as some of the only weapons in the game to innately apply Torpor to enemies, significantly slowing down even gigantic monsters, as well as poisoning them leaving them open for a righteous pummelling from your hardest hitting teammates. You can also put these upgraded rusted weapons in the hands of your pawn to allow them to take the supporting role instead. So while they're not powerful by themselves, they can make everything else so much stronger and easily earn themselves a place in even the game's hardest content.
@@seand7042 RNG is one hell of a curse. I can't remember if this is the case, but I think gear has a higher chance of becoming dragonforged if you upgrade it prior, though I know that killing Grigori guarantees all of your equipped gear will become dragonforged. Otherwise it's pretty much all RNG
I thought I'd see Jango Fett's blaster pistols from Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, their fast easy to use, if you press the fire button quickly it's like a blaster rifle and you can hit 2 enemies at the same time, in my mind their super over powered
The red faction games were great loved the hammer in the first one and especially loved the 🦄 gun in Armageddon, I mean it's face alone when you shoot it just priceless 🤣
When i got the Smart Pistol in Titanfall 2 last mission, my roommate thought it was a cutscene how i was just gliding off of the walls so smoothly and eliminating everything without effort. While myself on the other hand was just stupidly happyto see the smart pistol in campaign
After looking away to grab a dropped apple pencil and looking back to see Ellen's very pleased/smug smile holing the trophy in the intro made me laugh so much harder than I feel I should
Only the saw cleaver and hunter axe??? The threaded cane can absolutely carry you through the game on its own (and not only one playthrough); pretty much only used it, and only used a few other weapons to change things up a bit from time to time, even though it wasn't necessary. Stylish and deadly.
Pretty sure all 3 starter weapons can get you thru the whole game if you build your stats around them, but the Threaded Cane is by far the black sheep of the family with very few players choosing it.
@Krystal109 Yeh, they all can, which is why I mentioned it, bc it felt a bit wrong to leave it out. More people definitely should try the threaded cane because it's great; I never owned a PS4, but the moment I learned about the threaded cane, I knew I was gonna choose it as my starter, and passed all my expectations (absolutely love it).
The crossbow from Enter the gungeon. It’s just great to one hit kill those little guys from the start. I have also had to deal with the first boss with my starter guns as the hunter some times.
Amen, Janes the traditionally pretty one. But Ellen is the just sheer fun co-op buddy you can imagine spending a weekend playing somthing with. Hope that makes some weird kind of sense.
8:04 FYI, in Star Trek Online, Klingon (err K.D.F.) characters can, in fact, dual wield Disruptor Sniper Rifles. It was originally a mistake early in the game (was supposed to be dual pistols and someone shipped the wrong mesh accidentally) but they made it official later on. Humorously, if you give them to one of your Away Team members, every so often while idling they will look at the pair of sniper rifles in their hands and give a quizzical look towards the captain.
I'm suprised no one mentioned the wrentch from Bioshock, its a good weapon before you have a lot of ammo and once you get the health steal and freeze abilities (both early) you can one v one a Bid Daddy. There is a reason they removed it for the second game.
Sounds similar to the Halo 1 magnum pistol. Thing was a pistol that had the range, accuracy, and killing power of a sniper rifle so they made the halo 2 pistol significantly weaker and shorter ranged
Have to love that commitment to the gag. Would make for a fun video series if you guys played physical games with each other. Suction cup dart guns make for "safe" fun.
I have a rather obscure reference: the bazooka from Secret of Evermore. It's a shame it breaks after you crash land on the planet from the space station
It’s not a “Starter Weapon”, but in The Surge I always thought the best weapon is the one you get from beating the game’s first boss, the P.A.X. Imperator V2.0. Each time I’ve played the game, I’ve never felt compelled to use a different weapon after unlocking that one early on.
I mean you could argue that red pikmin are a weapon, and their 1.5x damage modifier is incredibly useful not to mention their fire resistance. In the first game they’re easily the best. Even in 2 and 3 they’re still incredibly useful and arguably the best. Although purples and rocks are also incredibly good
My favorite is the rusted weapons at the start of dragons dogma, face value they suck but upgraded they cause poison and topr so everything is hurt and slow, it's especially useful for the bow vocations
Omg the Stonekeep one...haven't played for years. Still got the original disk - probably should play it again some time. But as I had the strategy guide I would always get the Dagger of Penetration at the start since the guide told me where it was. And then use it for the entirety of the game :D. Incidentally those little green guys aren't orcs, they're shargas, although they are basically this setting's goblin-equivalent, with the taller, more menacing throgs being the orc-equivalent. At one point you meet a frienldy sharga called Skuz, who joins the party (if you've got space) :).
The regular mega buster is the Megaman X games always felt better than the special weapons from bosses, purely because you can charge up your shots and do so much more damage as a result.
The special weapons in the first Megaman X had their uses--I found myself using Storm Tornado as my main for as long as it had ammo--but in all future installments the special weapons were pretty much useless outside of fighting the boss that had that specific weakness.
@@1337m4n oh, there are a few cases where you need to use them to unlock secret doors or find hidden items. for example, the Heart item in the Ice level in the first MMX is inside a large object that can only be destroyed with flamethrower.
The gold pistol from Duken Nukem Forever. If you take a moment to go for headshots(x4 damage) and the melee attack is twice as fast as other guns, it just destroys enemies pretty much relegating the other weapons for bosses and mass groups.
While it doesn’t apply because it does fall off, I would like to give props to Ise-no-Kami from Bravely Default and Bravely Second. Edea’s starting blade in both and your only katana until after the first chapter (not counting the tutorial); to make up for that second bit, it’s probably the strongest weapon you’re getting for those first two sections of the games. Aside from these “first weapon is best weapon” cases, Ise-no-Kami is possibly the strongest piece of starting gear I’ve ever seen. Part of why I made it my screen name. Side note: Bravely Second gives you the Wizard as your first real job, and that could maybe count, for sure the best job in the game.
You could also make a case for the Freelancer job, the actual starting class. Whilst it's not at all good early on, its Late Bloomer Specialty (which was even the only completely exclusive specialty in Default) meant its stats would be fantastic, as well as eventually learning the incredible Mimic move, which can lead to all sorts of nutty combos.
@@Quintingent Yeah, I can see that. I would still argue Wizard is better, but I love how the Bravely series as a whole made Freelancer into basically a full on job, with Misscelany being an aptly named but still very useful job ability.
@@isenokami7810 Wizard is certainly the best magic class in Second, and ofc in Second Late Bloomer is no longer a Specialty, instead being a support skill usable by any class so the Freelancer's only real claim to fame is Mimic. Whereas Spellcrafting is useful for basically every magic class, and the wizard has the highest Int making it a natural choice for magic primaries. Man now I'm gonna have to replay Second again. That job system was so good
Saw cleaver was good but the axe is the real carryweapon of the game. Made my 1st playthrough a breeze. (This was my 1st soulslike ever) the axe 2 handed charge spin attack is just toooooooo gooooooood
And FromSoft continues the tradition in Elden Ring; the Uchigatana. It can be obtained in an early game dungeon, has innate Bleed effect, and can be customized to work with another element like ice or fire. And if you start the game as a Samurai, it just became twice as deadly, now that you can power stance them.
oh, i recently saw a video by "Tulok and Mango", where someone tried to beat Elden Ring using ONLY the Samurai starter equipment! he DID upgrade it a lot...
The Uchigatana is my go to in Elden Ring. I have yet to finish the game because I really don't want to snd I have a blast just riding around the open world dicing enemies like they're nothing. I'm going to have to actually finish it before the DLC comes out, but I don't ever rush in an open world game. My Uchigatana and the bow remain as my main equipment, with the bow occasionally switched out to toss fireballs at things. I'm a simple woman, I like fire and swords. 😅
To be fair pretty much any starter weapon can carry you through the From games. Sure some get real good, but it's more about a solid easy to learn moveset and a fitting build to your playstyle.
Most regular weapons (as in non-unique infusible weapons) are viable all game in FromSoft games. The Uchigatana is pretty iconic though, with it being easy to get early in DS1, DS3 and Elden Ring (and Sekiro I guess), and a very beginner-friendly moveset with bleed on top. I don't remember very well about DS2 but I think it was found a bit later in the game.
Ehh. I mean. Pick most any starter weapon in a from soft game and you can bet it's capable of carrying you through the whole game. The longsword, halberd, mace, you name it, it's probably capable of taking you through the whole game if you upgrade it and level appropriately.
A huge part of the Saw Cleaver's appeal is how wildly powerful the transform attack (R1>L1) was and how much stagger it built too, meaning it was literally one of the most optimised weapons, farming for a special one from Rune Dungeons was a lot of fun!
Stonekeep finally a game about keeping stones, the geologist in me is thrilled 👍 Oh wait it's a dungeon crawler, nevermind maybe one day I'll get a Sherlock Holmes inspired game about stones. It shall be called "SEDIMENTARY MY DEAR WATSON!" What an IGNEOUS idea. It will truly METAMORPHICISE the gaming space.
The Stick from Undertale sort of counts because of Undertale's mechanic of using non-equipped weapons as items. The Stick allows you to spare several dog-based enemies and a wizard
Not sure if you've already done it, but in Morrowind you could get an end game Daedric weapon within 10 minutes of starting by doing an unmarked quest. No combat involved, just finding a mine outside Balmora and reporting its location to someone in Vivec, who gives you a Daedric weapon of your choice. The game never informs you about any of it, so most people miss it. First thing I do every time I boot up the game.
Maybe not the most powerful weapon in the game but the Varmint Rifle in Fallout New Vegas will probably let you one shot about 60% of the enemies in the game if you can pull off a sneak attack head shot. Upgraded with a silencer and scope mod it really is a killer.
Saw launchers show up in a few games & I never tire of using them. The original Unreal comes to mind but wasn't a starter weapon so can't make this list. HL2 kinda had it with the gravity gun in Ravenholm.
Starbound kinda-sorta has one too. At the very start you're given the Broken Broadsword, which is only good enough to help you survive the first planet and get some better equipment. But if you hold onto it until endgame, you'll be given the chance to repair it, after which it becomes the Protector's Broadsword, which is the strongest melee weapon in the game, and one of only two Tier 7 weapons in the entire game (excluding ones requiring cheats and unobtainable through normal gameplay).
How about a Commentor Edition of the Wost End-Game Weapons, ones that you get very late in the game but aren't worth the hype/effort unless you saved up all your upgrades until the end.
Ooh, could the Experimental MIRV from Fallout 3 count as one? I want to say you don't get the mission option for it until later in the game and when you get it, it's really just a big waste. For starters, it shoots 8 mini nukes at once and with mini nukes being rather limited in Fallout 3, it means you're going to be going through your limited ammo for it rather quickly. Not to mention most enemies in the game can be defeated with 1-2 mini nuke hits so you're really just beyond overkill with it. That and it's very likely you might just end up accidentally killing yourself with it's large AoE.
Another one could be the Death Scythe in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, it has the strongest attack stat in the game, but is too slow and it has Dark attribute which only a couple of enemies are weak to It's Light attribute counterpart, the Claimh Solaris is faster, the Light attribute works against a lot more of enemies, is just slightly weaker and is not locked behind hard mode
While the remote charges are fun to use against EDF goons, try using the sledgehammer against the non melee units and get used to seeing Alex Mason ragdolling into the game over screen.
True, but you have to admit, it's satisfying when you can make it work. When you're ambushing EDF inside a building, and you can smash right through a wall and through a guy on the other side with a single hammer swing, take out the other two in the room with two more swings then knock down the wall to the hostage and knock out an escape route to the car you planted earlier... oooh, that's the good stuff. You will then be shot dead if things go even slightly wrong, true. But when it goes *right*... Also, the guns are undeniably effective, but they feel much weedier than the hammer and charges. I guess it's less a power thing for me and just that the starting weapons are the best *feeling* in the game.
Red Faction Guerilla was such a good game! I loved trying to find the minimum amount of damage I needed to do until I could just use remote charges to take down a whole building. Why does the AAA gaming world just lose features over time?
Saw Cleaver is the best all around weapon in Bloodborne, really. I used a handful of weapons, but I always would default back to the saw cleaver. Lady Maria was the boss who made me switch to the threaded cane for better parries (she also taught me to parry, lol). I used the threaded cane for the Orphan's first phase, but I immediately switched back to the saw cleaver (untransformed) for phase 2 and it was brilliant. Tonitrus is one of my favorite non-starting weapons, because that free bolt damage is sweet and it's what helped me killed Amydala. I love seeing just how far Luke is in his NG+ run of Bloodborne. I guess it's because of when I started the Hitman games, but I usually pick the Black Lily for whatever reason. Not that I ended up using whatever silenced pistol I pick. I usually end up having to ditch it to get frisked or I end up using a screwdriver or scissors or something instead. It's mainly my shoot the cameras and the security equipment tool at this point.
The falcon pistol in perfect dark was amazing, every bullet goes exactly where you aim it unlike a lot of the other guns, also with practice you can get a really decent rate of fire out of it
Another weapon you can get from the start that is absolutely amazing is the Master Sword in ToTK. Due to the open-world nature of the game, you are able to paraglide all the way up the the Light Dragon the moment you get the Paraglider or something, and unlike the previous game where you needed 13 hearts to pull it out of the stone in Korok Forest, you can get this one almost immediately. To be fair, it will still run out of energy after a little while, temporarily forcing you to use other things, but whenever you have it, that is what you use for melee combat.
I’m not sure if it counts, but the marine and zerglling in starcraft are always good, to the point where some people have won matches/beat the whole campaigns by building literally only the first combat unit they unlock
In the same vein, slugga boyz from Dawn of War have always been my favorite, to the point that I always forget the orks even have other units. I can get a seemingly endless swarm of them in mere minutes. WAAAAAGH!!!
Ellen’s smug smile that says both “I love my accomplishment trophy” and “I’m so proud of my silly joke; your groans only make me more powerful” at the beginning is like an OP starter for this video.
It probably doesn't count on this list but to throw my own recommendation, the Grenade Launchers from MW2009. My goodness were those things broken beyond belief. If you know, you know.
so another thing I find really nice about the saw cleaver, it's incredibly good for giving it magic gems. It's slots are perfect for blood gems to boost it's DMG and elemental stats. So you can have the saw cleaver that sets things on fire while still doing butt loads of damage.
I can't remember if it was mentioned in the other parts, but it would be a shame to not mention Symphony of the Night. Yout starting gear is literally so strong that it gets stripped away from you to make the game fair.
I love how, despite being physically impossible, all video games pretty much agree that sawdisk projectiles both pierce through enemies, and ricochet like crazy Like, by now it's tradition
The plasma cutter is my favorite weapon to use in the Dead Space series, it does good damage, it has decent reload speed and excellent ammo capacity and in the second game when it's fully upgraded, it lights enemies on fire.
Honestly in every dead space game ( well maybe not 3 haven't played ) the plasma cutter can literally carry you though the whole game there's a reason it's a category in speedruns
You forgot to mention the plasma cutter from Dead Space. Most of the game could be completed with that weapon only. Only a few specific combat scenes required a different specialized weapon.
I'm not sure if this would count for this kind of list, but I'm going to suggest it anyway. The X-baton in Astral Chain is a fantastic starter weapon. While you don't get any other weapons during your chimera slaughtering adventure, you do have the option of using grenades and combat drones. However, you'll barely ever use those grenades and drones because of just how effective the X-baton is. Not only is it versatile with being able to have usage at close and long range, but it can be upgraded to rinse through the health bars of tougher chimeras.
To put into perspective just how OP the Smart Pistol is in Titanfall 2, the lore of the game says that it cannot be mass manufactured because of how bonkers expensive it is. During the home stretch of the campaign, you're literally firing BILLIONS of dollars worth of shots.
Sure redeems itself from its controversial Titanfall 1 iteration, too.
It costs $400,000 to fire this weapon, for 12 seconds.
One of the best parts of the game. All the time you’ve spent wall running and shooting enemies finally peaking with you barely even having to aim and just wiping IMC dudes out
@@buttlord5007I see that TF2 reference
Bro, its less cost effective than the Predatory Lending in BL3. The automatic smg that fires literal money from your bank. Also how do characters in Borderlands hold like millions of dollars but it doesn't affect them at all like Steve and his probably billions of dollars all in his pockets
In some of the Devil May Cry games, Dante's starting sword is called Rebellion. While Dante gets more weapons over the course of his adventures, Rebellion can be used for pretty much the entirety of the game and is very versatile.

Plasma Cutter in Dead Space 1 & 2. There's even an achievement for it in each game!
They had that in the "part one" I believe. But the "part one" was three years ago.
I went through a whole playthrough just to get that achievement!
Such a great tool. When the aim of the game is precision cutting and the first thing they give you is a precision cutter. Why bother with any else ever again?
@@rainynight02Not only was it in Part 1, it was in the thumbnail for that video
@@tyrannicpuppy Or as my buddy described it "the only gun you'll need. Every other gun is just an excuse to add a shop to the game."
I agree. For stealth, the silverballer is just super strong. And I can say that I play Hitman myself.
@@kerstinszabo9875 Yeah, 47 is unstoppable in the hands of a skilled player with that pistol.
That smooth transition from Luke got me 😂
In hunter the reckoning, the judge's crossbow is a 1hit kill on vampires. Since you are fighting a vampire coven, it's kinda mandatory
Favorite game growing up
Honestly, in so many games with optional stealth mechanics or melee insta-kills the starter knife (or equivalent thereof) is ludicrously powerful.
I'm pretty sure that was in the original video, or at least another one? (Maybe OxBox?) I distinctly remember Andy laughing at the "Sets them in fire"
@@KingOfTheLycanthrops ah, good call, it was in the first commenter edition vid. Good memory
I don't know if any weapon in Doom Eternal could be considered best, but the starting shotgun remains useful through the whole game. Pick up the grenade launcher mod for it ASAP and it's an excellent and easy way to target demon weak points.
Bfg?
@@mattBLACKpunk Too little ammo, and is completely useless against Marauders.
Or the piercer from ultrakill, it's useful throughout the whole game and there are Speedruns for using only it
Literally one of the most useful and greatest weapons they ever made
If you have to add a Mod to it!!
I’ve been going through one of my toughest times so far and the only comfort I’ve been getting recently is from the OutsideXbox family and I gotta say I love you guys so damn much ❤️
Thank you ❤
You got this
_Hexen_ mage starter weapon is a railgun with infinite ammunition. You don't even have to reload it. It just keeps on shooting. It may not hit hard as hard or as often as the turret gun on a _Halo_ Warthog, but it will eventually wreck enemies for you, no matter how tough they are.
I am so glad I didn't hallucinate that game. It was so good.
Fire axes tend not to be sharp so I can see it being situationally worse than a decent knife
Can we get a commenter edition of our favorite taverns? Because Pyloon’s Saloon is already my favorite cantina in all of Star Wars.
Welcome to the Need Inn, whacha needin?
The pub in Armed and Dangerous was pretty cool
@infernobread8941 that was honestly my first thought then had to make a pun.
Couple of good tavern games in Fable, though otherwise they were only useful for trophy crowds and puke.
It’s helpful throughout the entire first game too. It was a key part of my favorite method of dealing with the slugs.
One can call this a starter fighting style, more like.
Also true for single blades in the Jedi Academy game
Dealt more damage per strike as well.
@@austinknight5881 I thought they already talked about the lightsaber from Jedi Academy in this series of videos.

It’s called the ‘Blazefire Saber’, which is an odd choice considering her primary element being electricity.
But FF13 is shit, sooooooo

Ah, the saw cleaver. Bloodborne combat given form. Simple, and visceral, yet with a few tricks that turn from dangerous to lethal.
Also, use bolt paper!
Unless you choose the Hunter Axe like a proper intellectual. Good stopping power in his standard form, and delivers powerful sweeping attacks while transformed that can cleave multiple enemies in one go.

I found the Dispersion Pistol from the original Unreal to be pretty good throughout the game, in part as you get upgrades for it that increase its damage and its charge shot capacity.
I work in a tranq dart factory, we regularly need to test them on workmates. Luke's impression of being tranq'd was spot on. Excellent work.
Aww I just love Ellen and Luke so much, their playfulness is just too perfect
Virtuous contract from Nier automata and its great sword partner are fully viable from start to finish and pretty iconic.
That entire weapon set is just obviously the strongest. Bonus damage while at or near full health in a game with so many healing effects, you're only ever going to have less than that just after taking a hit.
Plus speed boost
Before I forget - Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, both Eirika and Ephraim have amazing starting weapons
Or is the true best starting weapon Seth?
Weirdly watching the saw cleaver part reminded me of an important discussion: Top items that are insanely useful yet you always hoard. The fire and bolt papers immediately come to mind
Did someone already mention the M6D magnum from Halo: Combat Evolved? It’s got range, zoom, is fast shooting and actually pretty powerful (I surprised myself by dropping a couple of Hunters with it).
that was in prt 1
Random stuff constantly exploding to the bouncing saws is hilarious, definitely worth using for the whole game
Actually never played with the saw cleaver in BB. I chose the axe, and it excelled magnificently in both crowd control and stunning power.
The windup attack could even stun the old hunter Maria.
2H axe mode's heavy attack is still one of gaming's most satisfying spin-to-wins.
The range on it as well!
Whenever I used that attack, I always had the Beyblades theme in my head
You should see how fast Cleaver kills bosses when using a BBP. Nothing else compares. Literally just seconds to kill bosses.
Holy shit, really? Now I need to reinstall DD, thanks a lot.
I just paused DD this drake refuses to dragonforge anything I have equipped
@@seand7042 RNG is one hell of a curse. I can't remember if this is the case, but I think gear has a higher chance of becoming dragonforged if you upgrade it prior, though I know that killing Grigori guarantees all of your equipped gear will become dragonforged. Otherwise it's pretty much all RNG
I thought I'd see Jango Fett's blaster pistols from Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, their fast easy to use, if you press the fire button quickly it's like a blaster rifle and you can hit 2 enemies at the same time, in my mind their super over powered

Threaded Cane! That's what it's called!
I left a comment calling it the cane whip! 🤣
Was my first choice when I played and loved the thing!
Threaded cane is only considered the black sheep because it's a dex weapon. Otherwise it's more than enough to complete the entire game with
@olu550 I love dex builds, so it's a bummer that people rarely go for the dex build when they make let's plays or stream.
Props to Luke for perfectly nailing the sound of someone falling unconscious from a blowdart.

That was in the first version of the video I think. Specifically the shock + wrench combo.
The ole zap em and whack em was mentioned in one of the previous entries. Bioshock is still one of my favorite games, years after its first release.
Wrench lurker and camo made that thing super OP
I feel like they removed it because the new protagonist would have difficulty handling a wrench. But the drill is also viable through the whole game
Not so obscure, lol...I *love* Secret of Evermore. Nothing beats the RPGs of the late 80s to the early 2000s...
By a similar token, the Phaser from _Star Ocean 2._ It doesn't break, per se, but it runs out of juice after Claude uses it to break down a door.
Although purples and rocks are also incredibly good
Fire Emblem Engage's Liberation is easily the only weapon that Alear needs throughout the entire game.
I am pretty sure the bioshock wrench is in the first part, but it still is one of the most effective weapons.
coupled with the 1-2 with the shock hand
Love the jokes and skits the Outside Xtra/Xbox team do, makes the videos more enjoyable!
The saw cleaver is hilariously strong, like the twin blade in DS3.
That job system was so good
@@Quintingent I actually currently am replaying Bravely Second. Love the series as a whole, but I think Second is my favorite overall.
Saw cleaver was good but the axe is the real carryweapon of the game. Made my 1st playthrough a breeze. (This was my 1st soulslike ever) the axe 2 handed charge spin attack is just toooooooo gooooooood
The tether from the Just Cause series. It's not quite a weapon, but you know it's destructive potential with the grapnel's total defiance of physics!
A huge part of the Saw Cleaver's appeal is how wildly powerful the transform attack (R1>L1) was and how much stagger it built too, meaning it was literally one of the most optimised weapons, farming for a special one from Rune Dungeons was a lot of fun!
ellens jokes are always perfect.
I like that the saw blades you shoot out of the saw launcher in far cry have smileys on them.

It will truly METAMORPHICISE the gaming space.
Ellen would be proud!
What a gem of an idea!
Damn, that would gneiss
Make sure the graphics are polished, we sure as shale don't want critics saying it looks like schist.
The Stick from Undertale sort of counts because of Undertale's mechanic of using non-equipped weapons as items. The Stick allows you to spare several dog-based enemies and a wizard
IMO the best Dark Souls answer is the black firebombs as a starting gift in DS1. They are hilariously OP in the early game, even if you only get 5
With that logic I'll submit broken hilt/straight sword, because they can ascend.
Stonekeep. That is a nostalgia trip. My mom would play it on the computer and is kids would huddle around to watch.
Another one could be the Death Scythe in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, it has the strongest attack stat in the game, but is too slow and it has Dark attribute which only a couple of enemies are weak to
It's Light attribute counterpart, the Claimh Solaris is faster, the Light attribute works against a lot more of enemies, is just slightly weaker and is not locked behind hard mode
Holy crap. I am amazed and pleased to see Stonekeep get some love on here. That was one of my favorite games way back in the day, still is really.
Man, may Red Faction I and Guerrilla live on for a very looooong time.
The EDF deploys!
Jane's training has worked brilliantly. Ellen's adorable little smirk when she sedates Luke was sublime. She's really embracing her inner chaos.
Technically, the nail from Hollow Knight. Even though it's the only weapon you can get, it eventually becomes the strongest weapon in Hallownest.
The falcon pistol in perfect dark was amazing, every bullet goes exactly where you aim it unlike a lot of the other guns, also with practice you can get a really decent rate of fire out of it
I miss Show of the Week
WAAAAAGH!!!
Best basic RTS units, I see.
@@daviddaugherty2816 when you "only" have 2 squads of boyz but you're at 95% pop cap because they're fully reinforced.
Ah yes, Samus Aran Syndrome. Where you start out with most (if not all) of your best gear only to have it taken from you.
I love how, despite being physically impossible, all video games pretty much agree that sawdisk projectiles both pierce through enemies, and ricochet like crazy
Like, by now it's tradition
How about the Plasma Cutter from Dead Space Remake? That’s like the bread and butter weapon
That was in the original 7 Starter weapons video about 3 years back. ^_^
And it deserved it! 👌
The plasma cutter is my favorite weapon to use in the Dead Space series, it does good damage, it has decent reload speed and excellent ammo capacity and in the second game when it's fully upgraded, it lights enemies on fire.
Honestly in every dead space game ( well maybe not 3 haven't played ) the plasma cutter can literally carry you though the whole game there's a reason it's a category in speedruns
the handgun in RE4 once fully upgraded is the best pistol
There's still going to need to be another four of these vids
I am so glad that Outside Xbox lives on. It's downright impressive!
