- here's Jo Ann c. 1960 to play the 1921 hit, "Down Yonder". Compare this to her playing it on a 1967 show: • Video
If you'd like to learn more about Jo Ann, I wrote an in-depth blog on her which you can find here: thatraggedyragtime.blogspot.c...

Never in the history of music has one woman pulled so many faces during a performance.
The greatest piano player in the history of the world !!!!!
She wasn't the first with Lawrence Welk. That was "Big Tiny Little" from 1955 to 1959. He was a heck of a ragtime pianist and also had 45 albums released. But he couldn't smile as big as Jo Ann Castle. Who can?
Don't forget Del Wood
My favorite piano number of all time! She outdid Willie Nelson's sister on this performance!!
Mister Grandpa's Bakery high praise indeed!
I absolutely love this lady!! And she's still with us at 83 years young!!
Nobody could play ragtime piano like Ms. Castle! Lawrence Well was lucky to have her performing on his show!
Your are absolutely right. But the one thing JoAnn DID NOT need was background help from other instruments.
@Eddie_Schantz I always thought that too. She did just fine on her own
Fantastica ❤❤❤
I often wonder why JoAnn didn't become a female Liberace. Apparently she had some personal issues, according to Wiki. She has the fastest "Flight of the Bumblebee" that I have ever heard, played on accordian (it's the "Bumble Boogie" version). Check out a sample of it on iTunes.
She only plays one way, but it sure is HER way.
Better than Del Wood.
Sorry but I still think Del Wood play this song best of all
Oh for sure!! Hands down Del Woods has the best version.
Dels versions of it were amazing and rare recordings of it exist of her playing at The Grande Ole Opry, but I do have to say that JoAnns later studio version that on 22 Great Ragtime Hits is pretty good too!
She plays too fast.
