- Pianist Michael Sands plays Down Yonder. This hit was originally recorded by Del Wood who regularly appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
PLEASE NOTE - MICHAEL SANDS DOES NOT OWN THE SHEET MUSIC FOR THIS SONG AND IS UNABLE TO SUPPLY IT.
Cheers! Its good to know that people out there enjoy my playing! Keep watching and thanks for the comment!
Thankyou for your comment. I have never heard Del Wood play..alot of people mention her name when I play this one! I actually first heard this piece performed by my heroine Winifred Atwell- and I managed to play it by ear as the sheet music is no longer available. Glad you like it!
Wonderful pianist. I used to be able to play this delightful song on the piano very well until arthritis took over my hands and my eyes got so bad that I couldn't read the music. So, I just listen and watch others who are young and pay well.
With Talent like this, why aren't you hitting the TV screens? Brilliant playing. I could only dream of playing like this.
*No sign of a misspent youth there...............Michael's mum obviously never bought him an Xbox*.
This sounds more like Del Wood playing "Down Yonder" than anyone I've ever heard play it...other than Del Wood, of course. Absolutely amazing! Pure talent! Good luck! :)
I love Jo Ann Castle's music..what an honour it is to be referred to as the next pianist like her! Thanks!
You could easily give Moon Mullican, Dell Wood or even Jerry Lee Lewis or Mickey Gilley a run for their money easily! You are the best young piano player I have ever heard! I would love to hear you do Pinetops Boogie Woogie!
Can't tell you, Michael how many times I have listened to you playing this piece AWESOME
Many thanks for your comment. Actually, I have never been able to find the sheet music for this piece- so I had to learn it by ear! I'm so glad you think it sounds good, even though I dont have th original sheet music!
I'd hire this guy to play at my party any day. Great!!
Hi very very good music, and a good player, I like all Your nices oieces Thank's Jacques Canada

You are the best in playing this kind of music! Please tell me how this kind of piano is called? Is it a pedal piano, with bass played by pedal? Thank you
do you think someone who starts to learn piano at 16 can play this? i know it's very late but i like this song and want to play this one day.
@SeeburgMusic As I said. both are great. Why compare?. Just listen and enjoy. and no I'm not on the pipe nor have I ever been.
HOW is this possible? I'm learning. I love it. It's just brilliant. Fucking BRILLIANT. I thought Boogie Woogie was good... this is amazing.
@davidopelika ...HE'S FANTASTIC....ALSO....HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT ALLEN DALE ON UA-cam....BOTH ARE GREAT !!

Thankyou very much- I will be uploading even more when time permits!! And I appreciate your comment about my talent- its nice to have my music appreciated by others who genuinely enjoy my performances!
Hello Michael. I've read you're an Oxfordshire man. Can I see you play locally? If so where exactly?!
Very nice style you have, Michael. I particularly like your left hand slide. Your piano produces a great sound, too. Keep sharing your talent!
Thanks. I'm pleased you like my technique and the tone of my very old piano! I intend to load more videos as soon as possible and hope you continue to keep watching!
I thought the "Crazy Otto Medley" by Johnny Maddox was the first million-seller???
don't listen to ChickenLiquid...obviously he has no idea what he is saying.
Did I miss your CD??? When did it come out and did it come out in the USA???
I thought wreck of the 97 by vernon dalhart was the first million seller?
Cool. The piano: Any old 1920s (or so) out of tune piano like this will do.
You're great. Would be a better video if you had on old timey clothes.
thanks for such a lovely comment- more videos on their way in the next couple of weeks!
Hmmm. Why aren't you singing? Come on, let's hear it! Belt it out!
Thankyou for your comment..I will uploading some more videos in May.
Keep on playin', Dell!! Your fan, Robert.
You are great!!!! Why aren't you recording albums or cds?
mr.sands,
fuckin awesome!! you are good at this!!
well you certianly are the king of the keyboard...
Wow. You great.
Fine performance. Wish I had your skill.
Please, play Dinah, from Harry Akst....
Very good, I enjoy your playing. I love Southern Gospel and Ragtime also. If U get any Gospel ones posted, please send them to me.
Thanks so very much.
I found U thru my Dear Friend, MoJoPiano.
Darlene from the OZARKS of MISSOURI.
If you listen closely around halfway you can hear a clock going off. Five o clock!
Old friend in about 40 years ago, died some time ago, played this song for me, on his Edison phonograph a cylinder shaped recording of this song. The mechanism on his phonograph resembled a lathe with the needle lined up comparatively!
If i was you i would teach this.
Emin. Tis easy to look up on the internet now-a-days. The first phonographs were all built this way, I believe Edison started it! Have a swell day!
Why aren't my comments posting?
GRACEFULLY DONE, BRAZ'O OL CHAP
His user name says it all...
STREWTH !!!!!!!! must get him round for a party that's coming up and I have an upright Double Crown Lipp piano for him to play.....*with candles and everything*.
Haha!
What kind of piano is that?
great. Ragtime lives on.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Bravo !! Top Banana !!
Dude...you are awesome.
I LOVE to watch Michael Sands play! What a talent! If you are ever in St. Louis, MO Michael please stop by my house and play my 1913 Steinway & Son's Grand - it would LOVE to have a great pianist like you pounding out tunes on it for once!
Wow, you Rock Michael!! Ever checked out Adam Swanson? Do you play by note or ear?
Who is this child? He's mesmerizing.
Oh, UK/ Thank you. He's great.
Thank you for the comment Dale - and thank you dandiehl1948 for a flattering response! Thanks for watching - Best wishes, Michael
Michael Sands
good playing well done
My grandfather played the piano, nowhere as good as Michael though. He only played on the black notes, I could never understand why he just did not remove the white keys.
JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!
Michael, You are wonderful. Reminds me of my pre-teens listening to Kunz, and Semprini etc. Bring a CD out soon! Regards and keep this up.
Sadly, this kind of music is no longer wanted on our TV screens..nice of you to say that you think I have enough talent to make it professional though!!
ojala lo que tu haces con el piano....las voces actuales pudieran hacer algo similar en cuestion vocal.........
Your insane!!
ti amooooooooooooooooo
GREAT JOB !
Splendid!
Down Yonder appeared on Willie Nelson's 1975 Grammy winning album Red Headed Stranger (side 2 track 3.) The piano solo was by his sister Bobbie, who played with Willie on the road for almost all of both their lives. In concerts, Willie takes a break while Bobbie plays the tune. I saw them live in about 1996.
well done
great!!!
Love those bouncing dampers! :)
It's like the piano is happy too lol
PANDORASBOXRELEASE
I'd be too! ^.^
I am going to be uploading more videos later this month ( around the 25th as i am holiday in Egypt until then!). I hope you like the next uploads!
As I was saying, my 1916 Hammond Mello
Harp upright piano with French action sounds very much like your piano Michael. I was interested in comments of 123chevyman, and Honkytonkman. You're great - keep doing what you do so well.
Thankyou...I'm pleased you think it sounds wonderful as I have to play this one by ear (I've never been able to find the sheet music).
Love to hear you pay different types of compositions and you must have an amazing ear for music - best wishes from Australia and won't you come down under some time and do a few concerts
Thats dexterity! Looking for a simple guitar version and thought i would give this piano version a listen.. Glad I did, that was way cool. You and that piano sound way older than you are.
yes
..thanks- I hope you enjoy my next videos that will be on youtube later this month!
moin moin, I look every now and again loved your contributions here. Unfortunately, I started piano lessons with the late and maybe I'm missing a bit of talent. I play piano rather badly, but what little I can, I play with joy. I also bought a harpsichord. it just makes fun. many greetings from hamburg
T Totally Awesome! I am amazed every time I watch this. I LOVE ragtime. Have you ever seen Miss Bobby Nelson (Willie Nelson's sister) play this? She used to play it at his concerts. I don't know if she still does or not. I admire people who can play by ear. How long have you been playing the piano?
You were just GREAT!!! Please by all means post more. I have a nickelodean and great to see others involved. I am young as well. :) Keep up the great work!! Looking forward for other releases!
Most pianists must use both hands what he plays with his left. Excellent work!
many thanks...I will be uploading some more videos in the coming weeks.
Michael, Of all the excellent pianists on here you are the one who retains the genuine Ragtime/Barrelhouse feel the best - I can see you playing in a bar in New Orleans - with the traditional suit and bowler hat - respect dude!
T'es mignon en plus ;-))
Thanks-more videos are on their way in early september- hope you enjoy them!
Great !!! Keep the tradition alive. I remember in the late 1940s or early 50s the recording of DOWN YONDER by Lawrence Piano Roll Cook and then the recording by Del Wood.
WOW - I'd do anything to sit in an old time bar and drink down some Southern Comfort while you play these rag time tunes!+
Hope you are going to upload more of the same soon. My Mum who sadly passed away 6 years ago, loved this kind of music and I certainly wish she was here to see you playing now.
Thanks! I hope you enjoy my next videos due to be posted shortly!
