This was my second game on Game Gear and I really enjoyed it. The jumping is wonk in that version too but the password system, eerie levels and sprinkles of magic (such ad the skeleton and shadow) made up for it.
With a little understanding of the grid based positioning, I don't think the gameplay is'nt stiff at all. Small steps bring you 1 position ahead, or exactly to edges without falling off. And running will let you stop exactly on a grid location. THat's why Prince of Persia feels so unique and snappy (to me at least) And wow. It was so cool back in the day to play this great apple/DOS title outdoors on a gameboy. 9/10 to me :) Thanks again for a cool review.
I liked the 3D Prince of Persia games... and the recent Metroidvania, The Lost Crown (sadly, it seems that it underperformed commercially... guess it's how it is with that genre, as much as I love it). I could never get into the original games though. I played them way back when, but for some reason I'd just bounce off of them. I'll have to try playing them again at some point.

This looks a lot like the side-scrolling Tomb Raider games on the GBC. I never realised how much they must have taken their cues from this.

Weird how the NES version is actually lacking some of the features found in this port, including the intro and fight with you reflection.

At the moment I'm writing this, I've just beaten the game on my Game Boy Pocket for the first time with 5 minutes left. What an incredible game.
Damn, good job
