How did it take me so long and to have to come on to UA-cam, as well as to watch a reviewer instead of a creator, for me to hear that line used to sell people on a form of media?
It's sort of a gutsy line I think. It's pretty bold to call people stupid. But I think the party in question sort of brought it on themselves.
That's kind of harsh but it's actually true in a way.

I always use Mudkip and Torchic in every game in the series. They are my favorite Pokemons ever ;)
Machop will always be my Rescue team main. with pikachu as the partner. saw a list on best starters and they had macho as the worst topic as well lmao.

I always buy games second hand, often they are only half the price even though it's the same as buying them new.
@@markbouma2099 they Are pretty much sold out in every store. Do not know why. So second hand they go for full retail price, at least in my country. I just managed to find 1 in a store which was cheaper than second hand. After 2 years i finally picked it up.
I hope it will happen again. The full price is too high for me considering it's only a remake of a game I've already played through in the past, even though it was great.

I remember when the original rescue team games came out when I was younger. I got sick with pneumonia as a kid and this is what I took to every doctors visit.
Thanks for the review. Mystery dungeon has special place in my heart, so to know that so many people enjoy like I do excites me a lot. When I was younger I had no idea what I was getting into with Red Rescue Team but i was enthralled by the story and being a Pokemon for the first time. When Explorers of time came into my life my love for the series grew as I was able to play as gen 4 mons (my favorite gen) and that when I started learning the story progression strats and growing a bigger bond with characters in the story. The greatest thing about MD is that my imagination runs wild every time I play. Even wrote mini stories about my game adventures. RTDX was great gateway back the series. Cheers to many more adventures in the MD world. I really want to play as a Grookey.

I agree so much! There's something so interactive about the game on terms of roleplay. Definitely wrote a couple fanfics about it in my day. I do still believe the Explorers games are pretty much the peak of Mystery Dungeon. Even when, in this day and age, I don't have enough time to play a lot of video games constantly - I always make room for a replay of Rescue Team or Explorers.
Here is hoping for Gen 7-8 representation in the future. Grookey would be an awesome 'mon to play as!

That button press BZZT sounds are just...yes. it's like a gameboy take on an 808, with how it fades through the rest of the track
When I was 9, I remember playing through Frosty Forest and Mt. Freeze while I was snowed in and the power was out. It really felt like I was isolated in a snowy wasteland with my charmander partner. Red Rescue Team was my first pokemon game, and my first taste of what a good video game plot could be. Such memories :’) I played through Explorers of Sky as a treecko. If you needed to pinch a few gold ribbons off of Kecleon, you could use agility and a mobile scarf to outrun ‘em in the walls. Mega Drain came in handy to restore the hp you lost from your belly draining wall treks. I loved finding loopholes, lol.

Such good memories to have! It's funny too how you remember the environment around you when you played. I remember being STUCK on Mt. Blaze as a kid (played as Treecko), and it was during a massive heat wave in summer break. I heard the music over and over again as I attempted to get up the mountain and take on Moltres. This game is RELENTLESS.
Good strategy with the Kecleon haha. That is really smart. I think Mystery Dungeon is sort of underrated in terms of strategy. The loopholes kinda balance out the game. You can really exploit it if you know what you're doing. Though you're not necessarily cheating because you figured out something creative!

This is what I was looking for! Everyone just says "wow what a curious way to present a Pokemon game" nobody knows about the core games, hollow opinions. Yours is the real deal thank you
I dropped this game when I first played it but came back when I was sick home for a week and started to absolutely love it when the story picked up because it is a pokemon game where there is a actual good story.
PMD series really knows how to write :) I always loved their stories.
I havent played a mystery dungeon since mystery dungeon red when I was like 6 I had so many memories. And I have not played a single one since but I was reminiscing about it today and am really considering buying it and reliving my child hood a little bit :)
There's actually tracks from both Gates and Super. The medley in Oddity Cave is Gates and two tracks come from Super. Shiny Celebi is also in the game with unique dialogue. And there's actual new tracks, being I think a variant of Run Away, Unknown, and Puzzling... Which were made to make it so that the background had more music.

I didn’t play this game when it came out so I was on the fence about buying it, but I gotta say it was the best decision ever after playing it even though I never played the original!

I played the original and I was one of the few Cubone players. The only thing I find in combat is the lack of struggle move, it made move saving and resource management better.
I just bought the game, and am enjoying it so far. Not gonna lie though, the new friend ares REALLY disappoint me. I fucking loved exploring the friend areas
Glad I wasn't the only one! I appreciate you can still technically visit them and see the original sprites. But idk, for whatever reason, I loved exploring all the friend areas too as a kid.

Great review! I wanted to get the game when it came out but wasn’t sure if it was worth $60. I love the series but never fully completed one as a kid since I spent more time in the mainline series and other games.
I would say it's a great modern adaption but if you have trouble finishing them - this one isn't really going to change your mind.
I'd say if you wanted to give the series another try (and have a DS), try to find a copy of the Explorers games.
As much as I love the original and this remake, the Explorers games still reign supreme in my opinion. Not to mention, most likely cheaper if you can find them used.

I thought I was the only one who played this as a kid... never beat it tho because my copy broke but I’m glad it has a remake now I can dive back into my childhood
I think I prefer the original, mainly because I’m nostalgic for the sprites. But as someone who hated the 3Ds games I think this is a big improvement.
The originals still hold a special place in my heart. That's probably why I love this one so much. I don't feel like you lose anything compared to other remakes. The music, the gameplay - it all feels the same just updated.
So much nostalgia, but damn I didn’t realize they made more mystery dungeon games after red and blue… now I’ve gotta find a way to play those.

In all seriousness, great review. I love Nintendo spin-off RPG series, e.g. Paper Mario and PMD, and I'm optimistically holding out hope for more of both. Here's hoping we get a chance to do a Super Explorer's of Sky review.

I have my mystery dungeon red around with over 250h, couldn't do it as a kid in that time, crazy if someone did it.
I struggled so hard in higher dungeons as a kid, respect to all late game players
Nothing more relaxing than shutting ur brain off and playing this with the music turned up
I would love to play the remake but honestly i just love the pixelly graphics from back then too much so I'd end up playing it on my ds again, grinding for mew in the ruins. I really like the dungeon designs but not a big fan of the other graphics, if they were more realistic i think it would've been a better remake personally
I do prefer the sprites myself! Though the remake does a pretty fair job of doing them justice! That being said, other than many quality of life changes, the original is still very much playable over this one.
Getting rid of the alt attack still hurts.
I loved the explorers of sky game on the ds, I really hope they come out with a remake of the explorers versions for the switch!! Do you think it will be something worth waiting for, or should I just give up on that idea and get this one? haha :')

I still stand by that this game is a little overpriced for what it is. Though not sure if doing a PMD remake is a one-time thing or not. Regardless, I recommend waiting

Actually listening to it closely, I think the remixed version of the remake IS actually slightly remixed, some instruments sound different, to me at least

Great review, I'm so happy to see that there is so many people who love this game. Does anyone know if you can change the settings of the game to be more like the original used to be? As in limit your team to 4 team mates, turn off auto-run and turn off ep share? I love the original to bits and was so happy when I realized that this is a remake, however I feel like a biiiig part of why I used to love those games is because they were a lot more difficult so everything felt more like an accomplishment. And I feel like the auto-run feature in particular (and maybe the exp share) would just suck the fun out of the game for me (I know I could just not use the auto-run, but I know as long as it's readily available I'll probably end up using it anyways even though it will take a lot of fun out of the game for me)
As someone who loves the original game, I can get what you're saying but trust me when I say it doesn't automatically demolish the game's difficulty curve! It still is challenging just like the original. I would say to limit yourself to just refuse to recruit 8. I actually do this myself. Mostly because it's hard to navigate a dungeon with 8 Pokemon behind you. And a lot of the time, you're going to just go back in line to save them anyway. So it is perfectly viable to go solo or however a small party you want.

I kinda disagree about the game not having enough content. Sure the majority of the content comes from the original, but the postgame dungeons still retain a similar length and difficultly, enough to give many players hours of fun and challenge. Taking that and the ability to catch them all, and this game easily eclipses any main series game as far as content goes
I dunnnnnooooo. Any main series game might be pushing it. Any Mystery Dungeon game, possibly. I do feel like Explorers of Sky has more content frankly. I think mainly what I meant was that it doesn't have enough content that goes beyond the original. There isn't a lot of new added.

I think that makes sense honestly, especially if you were a kid then. This series can be a little jarring for those that aren't already accustomed to the idea. But I think that's what makes it such an interesting spin-off!

I was the opposite. I thought Rescue Team was the next mainline entry until I entered the dungeons.
I would've been disappointed if they *didn't* include Lucario. I mean, the highest rank in the original is Lucario rank, and Alakazam says Lucario is his idol.

you can tell the comments in the beginning arent from pmd fans because only game journalists would say a randomly generated game is samey because they kept getting stuck in one area
im waiting for it for my birthday to get DX and Animal Crossing i did saw it at my walmart for 49.99 to my surprise. Another great video. My only complaint is that its a remake and not something new. I only hope that they continue making more Mystery Dungeon not a another remake a new story adding the 7 and 8 gen pokemon

Wow, 49? That's actually pretty alright. Though I think 40 is still the sweet spot.
I honestly don't mind if they do another remake BUT they need to add more! DX is literally Rescue Team again with a few extra things. If they did Explorers next but with Pokemon up to Gen 8, I think that could be really cool in my opinion.

I believe so! It's a great game that fixes A LOT of issues the previous one had. You're probably experiencing the peak of the Mystery Dungeon series with Explorers of Sky.

Hmm... Depends what you didn't like about it. I do think Mystery Dungeon DX is a step-up on terms of story but not as much on the gameplay side. Though I do like the gameplay more personally.

I loved rescue team dx, until I got to mew and did over 10 runs only to never find him even once and I hard waited on the rooms he spawned in, that hardcore turned me off since I was recruiting every legendary and mythical pokemon
The year is 2023 and this game still had no price drop in Europe (or i missed it, but rn it's still 60 bucks).
8 months later it’s still at 55 🙃
Let me say the main series pokemon is widely influenced even though it's technically the same turn based game (to the point where story is a downer) at the start I'll admit I did hate pmd because I was a dumb 8 year old that didn't know how attack works heck the reason why I hated pokemon from my 10 to 13 old times. After I got reintroduce in the pokemon mainseries by my friends I got into it. Then I had a thought of the first pokemon game (which I stopped at TINY WOODS) (apologies here because this game was on my bootleg 37 in 1 cartrage) I gave it a shot then DAMN I never realized how good- no GREAT it was F- during that time I never thought a pokemon game would be dark. (As in trying to hunt down the MC).
As I tried the other pmd games. Pfff.. None of em failed to make me emotional yet attached to a game SO much. My friend that introduced me pokemon didn't try the PMD series thou which is a bummer....
Storywise the Explorers Games Story was A MASTERPIECE Both from The Soundtracks and Story! Call me a crybaby because I can't play the whole story without feeling emotional as I completed it several times.

+ I'll say this but the ones who played Explorers at that time actually DIDN'T judge the game by its graphics unlike IGN saying it the game could be remade in a Gameboy and Lazy story and a GRIND (aka every pokemon game but they didn't complained about it)
I agree! Hunting down the MC actually is a rather dark turn for the story to take. And considering the difficulty spike that happens during the Fugitive phase, I imagine it made a lot of kids upset. I spent months on it personally. So coming back to Pokemon Square definitely felt like coming home after a long time away.
Oh yeah, for sure. I'm always shocked at how emotional the Explorers games got. Recently I played it and I actually started crying when your main character starts disappearing. I WAS SHOCKED ONCE MORE.
I can agree IGN didn't judge it on it's graphics for sure. Honestly, PMD didn't really look bad back then (I mean, it still doesn't since sprites seem to always age well and give a game a retro feel). It does seem ironic that they judged it on those facets. I can already see the reviewer having the copy in his hands, thinking "this look stupid", playing Beach Cave with it's upbeat friendly music, and immediately just being turned off by it and writing it off a cash-grab spin off.

The difficulty is still super hard, it's BARELY dumbed down. All other pokemon levelling up isn't really making the game easier, it just makes the pool of pokemon you can use alot higher. You're still gonna get bashed at joyous Tower. Not to mention the "oh you game overed? You've lost ALL ITEMS AND MONEY YOU HAD"

Hmmm.. I loved mystery dungeon when it came out on the ds. Started over again and again. Still remember my original file's names even: Carla and Slim. But the graphics in this game....😑 something bout it just is offputting.
They do take some getting used to for sure! Especially when the original sprites were so expressive and vibrant.

I refuse to do digital copies of the Pokemon games. Unfortunately a new copy in stores it's still $60. Look at pokemon games on DS and 3ds physical copies are like $100+ used. Don't get me started on a genuine pokemon emerald cartridge @_@ my brother is on the hunt for that game and it's insane at what people pay for them.
I get it totally! I hate getting digital copies, especially since I have a terrible track-record of buying something and THEN my friends suddenly want to borrow it. I really only buy digital copies if the sale is under $10. Physical is way safer.
I would recommend eBay usually for switch games like these! It does suck because buying used doesn't necessarily support the game itself, but most of the time it's the best option.
Not for retro games though. I did buy myself a Pokemon Emerald cartridge and good lord, it was expensive.
