Hi, a year ago i woke up blind in one eye. No warnings and no pain. Went to ER got head CT scan and blood work and all looked good so ER doctor said he doesn't know what caused it. Left ER went to a regular eye doctor and next day seen eye specialist and both doesn't know what caused it. If it was due to high blood pressure or spike in sugar wouldn't that take out both eyes instead of one? Possibly glaucoma but dont know cause couldn't dilate my eyes but did do alot of other test. Im worried I'll go blind in my other eye but doctor said my other eye looks good and not to worry but i still do. I did have a eye injury year's ago, alot of year's ago in 6th grade maybe and im 63 now. Had to stay in hospital a few days or a week with both eyes patched which doctor said that was only way to stop bleeding in my eye. My problem is i cant remember which eye it was! If its same eye do you think its possible that it has caused my blindness now? It's my left eye that has gone blind and over the last few years eye doctors have told me that my left eye is much weaker than my right. Thanks for reading and sorry for this long comment.

      Hi Michelle,
I'm sorry to hear about the changes with your eyesight. Without examining you, I cannot know for sure as to why this happened.
It sounds like you may have had a stroke (ischemic optic neuropathy) in the eye, which would cause a sudden, painless, loss of vision as you're describing. This is more prevalent in people with high blood pressure and/or diabetes, but can happen to anyone. Strokes in the eye may only affect one side.
I'm curious why you couldn't have your eyes dilated? This a crucial part of the eye exam that would help your eye care provider determine the cause of your vision loss.
Prior eye injuries can also affect your vision years or decades down the road as well. Sometimes people are more susceptible to higher eye pressures and glaucoma with eye injuries, so this may also be a possible cause of your vision loss.
      Hope this helps!

@@visionrefocused Thank you 😃.. the reason for not dilation is because it could be dangerous in case Glaucoma caused it.
