Hi 😊...I stop seeing on one of my eye for 2-3 minutes.....,after laying down and close it,I started seeing normal ...what's the cause.plz, this happen a few days bk.
Yes, the longer, the better! Any type of content is interesting, especially when it's educative. I like that you explained how the blood vessels are damaged. Also, maybe one day you can make a video collaboration with Doctor Mike. You guys are my 2 top favourite doctors on UA-cam.
Please talk about amblyopia as it pertains to adults. Much of what is on the internet covers the topic as it relates to children. I just had my fifth eye surgery (strabismus 2x, lateral tarsal strip, cataract, blepharoplasty) and have ongoing botox injections (blepharospasms). I also have dry eye issues and a blind eye. Needless to say, I look forward to each of your videos and always learn something new. Thank you!
I like the longer discussion's. If you're looking for topic ideas do another live chat, there's always a lot of questions there. You don't have to address all of them, but instead do a series of recaps Questions and Answers of the live chats.
Great video & information. I am a certified ophthalmic assistant studying for my technician certificate, any and all information is very helpful. I currently work in glaucoma, retina & oculoplastic clinics. I'd love to learn more about thyroid eye disease, dermatochalsis/ptosis, nerve palsy (I've had a few pts with cn7, cn6 & cn3 conditions) also Horner syndrome. Thank you for educating people on getting a yearly eye exam, I preach it to every pt, family member & friend I talk to! Looking forward to your next video.
I woke up one morning blind in my right eye. I went to my opthamologist and I was diagnosed with a branch retinal artery occlusion. I spent 3 days in the hospital having more tests than ever. They never found a cause for it. Luckily my vision came back but my Peripheral vision has permanent silver swirls in it. It’s so much better than full blindness. That was two years ago and every morning I still hold my breath when opening my eyes lol. Super scary.
@@connieblackmon3932 after the hospital gave me the blood thinner my vision came back quickly-maybe 5 hours total without vision. Although it came back it didn't come back the same. I have permanent vision loss in that eye but not blindness so I'm grateful. I see silver swirls that aren't really there however I'm used to it now.
Hi Jessica! Maybe I'm going on a limb here, but do you suffer from migraines too by any chance? If that's the case I would strongly recommend you to get tested for antiphospholipid antibodies with an hematologist to understand if this wasn't the underlying cause for your eye event and potentially prevent recurrence. Hope this helps.
This just happened to me exactly as you describe. I was placed on BP meds and am now scheduled to visit a retina specialist. Now I have a better idea what to expect. Thanks.
I just found your video and you are very informative. I just was diagnosed with high stroke and my ophthalmologist was so extremely busy at her first day at Kaiser, when she wanted to do the injection, I refuse to let her do it because she stated it would take an extra couple hours to get everything approved and she didn’t read my chart thoroughly because of being busy with all the other patients so I am scheduled this week to have an injection, which you noted. I am 65 years old and my eyes feel like it will explode at times. My optometrist prescribed Timolol Maleate to bring down the pressure. A few weeks later, I am now scheduled to see an ophthalmologist for the injection. I pray that my 👁️ heals and there are no issues.
From South Africa.... I had a stroke in R eye September 2021...I'm 63 now... Had injections and vision restored to about 90% thank you for the video 💞🇿🇦
10:10 had stroke major blood pressure was high I did not get myself checked out now eye are not working together double vision to right and all vision is unstable 14:59
I’m a COA for a retina specialist and I loved this video (I actually do most of the FA’s for my clinic)! We treat vein and artery occlusions all the time. It so important for patients to not only know what to look out for and the risk factors, but how important it is to get treatment quickly and listen to the doctor’s advice! I see so many patients who I could have saved from so much vision loss if they hadn’t waited so long after having symptoms to be seen. Thanks so much for this video!
Hello sir my father has problem regarding vein ( blood flow ) he is totally blind since 40 years it's request to you . pls tell any treatment regarding this .
My right eye had a said 'stroke'. The ophthalmologist has refered me to specialist that is scheduled for January 4, 2023, about 20 days or so away. Funny, vegan-vegetarian... stress and some high blood pressure at a certain point might of caused this. One other thing, 64, 65 in 1 month, in early Spring i fell of a tree 18 feet high straight on my right back side. Broke couple ribs, bruised few more. Recoup fully, all in all, within 3 weeks. Dr couldn'tbelieve it. Just wondering if such a trauma could be at the base of my eye said 'stroke'? Vision in my right eye is about 60%, reading is difficult with this eye because letters disappear on me... really like this video and your very clear explanation :) cheers :)
Great video and exactly what I have, the retina specialist has been injecting my eye for two years every month to stop my retina being lifted off the back of my eye and since I had the stroke in the right eye I’ve been able to see perfectly since the first injection. Thank you for the explanation, you are very informative to a layman like me, I appreciate it.
My husband was just to the eye doctor the other day and he has open angle glaucoma and he is having trouble seeing in his right eye. The doctor diagnosed him with central retinal vein occlusion and we are to see the retina specialist today. I am so glad I found this video. You really helped explain this very well.
@@donnamarshall4171 how is his vision now? I also just got been diagnosed with ischemic crvo. Not sure if I even recover any vision. Now I can only see the outer rim of images. Sigh…. Feel like the world is collapsing on me.
Great explanation of this eye disorder. I was just diagnosed with BRVO which came totally out of the blue (my optometrist caught in during a routine eye exam). I've already been to a retinal specialist who game me a VEGF injection in the eye (fun!), and I am hoping that paying attention to lifestyle factors (exercise, diet, etc.) and good medical care will allow me to get my normal vision back. Appreciate this very clearly-expressed video!
Thank you for this very clear & informative video. My ocular history reads like War & Peace!. I have had benign congenital nevus both eyes, strabismus ( treatment by surgery unsuccessful), epiretinal membrane peel surgery, retinal tear (fortunately did not lead to detached retina) & a branch retinal vein occlusion. Had cataract surgery with insertion of IOL just 3 weeks ago. I am very glad to have a wonderful retinal specialist. Am so grateful people like he & you decided to go into ophthalmic medicine & not IT!!
Excellent video. Although I was inactive before I was 35, I became extremely active from that point on. I had optical migraines for years then suddenly had trouble seeing after looking at a bare lightbulb in my basement followed by blurry vision and seeing strange shapes in my vision. I went to my GP who looked into my eye and I could see the panic in his face immediately. It was retinal artery occlusion. Steroids injections which cased increased eye pressure which went away for 20 years and has now returned. On a drop today to reduce eye pressure. I’m 65 now and still don’t wear glasses. Your explanation was better than my own eye doctor of this condition.
My 60-year-old mother just sent me a picture with our eyes bleeding so the first thing I do is turn to UA-cam. Now I know she needs to go to the doctor right away. And I’m going to make an appointment for myself. Thank you so much I really enjoyed watching this video even though I didn’t understand most of what you were saying.🙄
@@DoctorEyeHealth The vision is much better but I still have a slight distortion in the middle of my vision field for that eye. My retinal scans show no blood or inflation. I’m hoping the distortion resolves itself. Thank you
my father also experienced this few days ago and I worried a lot the doctor also gave him anti-inflammatory drops and medicine I hope everything gets better for you and for my father.
My case is similar to Eryck Bredy's. I extensively use computer, as such I always got tears coming out of my eyes, especially right eye. However, in February 2019, one morning I noticed that the central vision of my left eye is distorting. That it looks like someone put a magnifying glass in front of my eye. I went to the hospital where they diagnosed me with BRVO. They gave me an antiflamatory medicine that I applied 3 times a day. Within 3 days, that distorting effect subsided. Now, after 3 days I went to see the retina specialist who told me that i needed to get an injection after checking my eyes with a slit lamp. At that time, i didnt take any Blood Pressure medication and i had blood pressure 160/110. He said that it is because of this blood pressure, which i had for some years now. Prior to that incident of BRVO, i was maintaining a very unhealthy lifestyle, eating fatty foods, no exercise. Anyways, I didnt take the injection as my problem subsided. It's been more than a year and I have no issues on my left eye, thankfully. However, I have noticed after that BRVO episode that when I close my right and look through left eye, say I'm reading one thing, the text or anything written just above disappears. This condition has persisted, but has not aggravated with time. In fact, when I see with both eyes, I see fine. I use (-5) diopters and I'm 30 years old. I'm myopic since the age of 15. Im overweight. I'm 238 pounds right now. My height is 5 feet 8 inches. But I have been restricting my diet and I reduced my weight by 15 pounds since August 2020. In August this year, I got my eyes checked by a different retina specialist, to whom I didnt mention my BRVO episode. He checked both my eyes with an opthalmoscope and concluded that they're fine. I should also mention that since February 2019, I continued to take Blood Pressure medication. I also continued to take that antiinflamatory drop till this August. My question is how much of a risk I am in? Since the episode has not recurred, should i be concerned too much? An answer would be really helpful. Thank you.
Hey man.. if you dont mind, could you give me an email ID or something of yours. I had suffered a similar episode as yours and I would really like to talk about it. I dont know how to connect with you other than this. I would really appreciate the help.
Just had a patient with this and bp of 192/101 in office last week. Had to send him to the nearest stroke center first then to a Retinal SPC for Treatment and management.
Yes, third year! In my country, we have 6 years of med school and then after two years of general practice we choose a specialty. Feeling blessed for having it figured out already! 😎
I had angle closure glaucoma 5 years ago. I was recently divorced, not sleeping and in between homes. I wasn’t feeling well the day it happened and then I got emotionally triggered and the energy went right up into my eyes. I was vomiting for 3 days with a migraine. My pressure was about 70. They did a bunch of laser to try and open the angle, stick a needle in my eye to remove fluid and ultimately I had to get cataract surgery. I was left with my pupils being ischemic and misshapen. I believe it’s because of the laser because I have pictures before the procedures and the pupils were large and circular. My pupils are now in a dilated state and I am very sensitive to light. I live a very healthy life. My diet is superb and I exercise, plus garden. I am now 52 and in peri menopause, but hormones were most definitely a factor 5 years ago with all of the life stuff I was going through. I believe I will heal my iris muscles and get my pupils to work again. I am not on any drops. My pressures are fine. Maybe you can do some videos on glaucoma. More people need to know about it. I am a researcher and I am writing a book on glaucoma because of all the research I had to do on my own, because my doctors don’t want to share information with me about my own eyes. Thank you
Just diagnosed with occular stroke-not reversible he says. I have an appointment with a retina specialist next week. Your video will help me ask the right questions. Thank you.
I am a very fit 50 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with rvo and I have also have newly diagnosed glaucoma. It took a while for diagnosis because I don’t fit the usual candidate for this condition. This was a really informative video.
Great explanation.. Thank you so much.. I was diagnosed with a CRVO this morning and had my first injection. My doc said it's very possible that in a few months I will get my vision back to normal. Right now I see a dark grey cloud blocking my vision right in the middle with distortion surrounding it. I guess I'm seeing the blood and thunder from the back side. Oh, and a perfectly round black dot at the bottom of my vision which is the injected meds doing its job. Keep up the great work.
@@devakdev5386 It sounds pretty scary but, the injections are pretty quick and almost painless. I had 3 in total, 2 were painless and 1 I felt a little. It goes quick and it's worth it.
@@dannylorenze6188 Hey Dan, I also had my first injection today. I also see two round black liquids following my sight at the bottom part of my eye. After the numb subsides I feel a little pain and teary eye, but it's bearable. It's been a month since you last reply on this thread. I'm just wondering how's your vision now?
@@LarrieFromCA Hi, LB.. I ended up having a total of three injections to clear up my central retinal vein occlusion. After two, I didn't notice my eye clearing up anymore. Sadly, I ended up detaching my retina after the third injection of Avastin. My doctors told me that it was just "bad luck" that my retina detached and had nothing to do with my injections, I have my doubts tho. . I have had a total of two detachments and three surgeries. My eye is currently attached with a buckle and silicone oil installed to aid with the reattachment. I'm hoping to regain some peripheral vision in my eye with it's all said and done. Please don't let my experience worry you at all... We are all different with our situations. I'm wishing you good vision..
@@dannylorenze6188 sorry to hear what happen to you. In my case, my doctor told me it’s a non-schemic case, meaning there’s a major possibility that my vision will be back to 20/20 after my 3rd injection. She said the possible cause of my CRVO is due to my hypertension. My BP fluctuates, sometimes when it’s high it’s148/98 but when it’s normal it’s about 110/82. I noticed every time I stop my normal walk in the morning, my BP spikes. I guess walking really helps. Hopefully my eyesight will be back to normal after the 3rd injections.
I'm so happy I saw your video I woke up seeing spots and a small spider web of blood. I immediately contacted an eye doctor who recommended I see a retina doctor. I'm afraid because he recommended surgery for my left eye my vision is blurry and difficult to see out of. Just watching your video made me feel better and more comfortable with going through with my eye surgery because I don't want to lose my eye sight . Thank you once again for making this video.🎉🎉
Very interesting video, thank you! I was diagnosed with branch retinal occlusion in 2012 in my right eye! I had laser (the maximum)treatments and I get an injection of Eyelea every 6 weeks! I have just been diagnosed with glaucoma in the same eye and I’m using eye drops to control it so far, very successful! I’m doing quite well for a man of 71 years, and my vision is 20-20 in both eyes, thankfully! Take care! 😊
Thank you so much, I am going through this condition right now. Just had ozurdex steroid in my left eye. Seing retina specialist again soon. I hope my blurry vision better soon. Thank you for explaining it so nicely. Big hug
I found this very interesting. My mother had diabetes for 40 years and arteriosclerosis in her later life. She had several strokes, one of the later ones affected one of her optic nerves. She lost her sight in a matter of a couple of days. She already had a tumour in her other eye.
I just had a visit yesterday with a Retina Specialist. I had also been having unbelievable sinus pressure from allergies, never had it this bad! I saw the vein in question , right eye...we are still not sure how it happened. Had some type of debris blurring my vision , but all else, pressure on both eyes, vision in the left eye, everything else checked out great! Was started on drops for a few weeks for the swelling and on day 2, already seeing signs of improvement! I can read now, it's still a bit blurry, but the Dr. has me on the way to recovery! Best wishes to everyone!
The opthomologist told me there is a liquid in my right eye because my veins are damaged but he said if my eye isn't irritated I can live with it otherwise he can operate my eye please help I'm following you from South Africa i learnt so much from your videos exceptional work keep sharing 🎉
I have the first condition you were talking about. For the last three months I have been getting eye injections. Last month my doctor said it looked like it was going away. So, I didn't see her for 6 weeks instead of the usual 4 weeks. But last Wednesday, the inflammation was back. She injected another more powerful drug into my eye, told me to come back on November 8th and hopefully this will help. If not, she was talking about eye surgery to remove scar tissue. You didn't mention surgery. What is involved with that? And do people usually go from not a strong drug to a stronger drug? Why don't they just give you the stronger drug first? What a great profession you have, really fascinating stuff. Thank you for explaining this to us. When I was at my appointment this week the tech who was taking a picture of my eye told me that recently a women came in and as they were looking at her eye, they noticed she was having a stroke, right there in front of them. They got her to a hospital and saved her life. What a satisfying profession you have. BTW, I am a 69 year old women. I have low blood pressure. I work out every day and I rarely eat greasy hamburgers. We eat mostly clean organic foods and mostly chicken and fish with lots of veggies and fruits. I only smoked in my 20's. So, I have no idea where this eye condition came from. I was using Lumify eye drops for a while, I thought maybe I did it to myself. Thanks again.
Thank you! This was very informative. I was recently diagnosed with central retina artery occlusion on my right eye- with no other health issues, so the cause of it is still unknown. How common is seeing that in a perfectly healthy person under 50? Another video on this would be amazing! Thanks again!
Excellent ! Information concise and I love how you place diet as an important factor in risk management of eye sight.I personally have been diagnosed with Uveitis caused by auto immune response( probably psoriasis & mild arthritis. 58ys but keep very fit.
TOPIC REQUEST! - Contact Lens Peripheral Ulcer and Marginal Keratitis Hi Dr Allen! This is my first time commenting using this account ( I was the commenter that told you about how you helped solve my dry eye situation I think 2 videos back). I wanted to request this particular topic because I have FINALLY figured out what's going on with my eyes and why I couldn't wear my contact lenses back to back, but there's not a lot of info on the internet about these conditions. The topic is Contact Lens Peripheral Ulcers (CLPU) and also Marginal Keratitis, bc these two are very similar in physical appearance. Hope you can teach us briefly on these in a future video :)
Although you may never fully regain your eyesight if you've suffered visual impairments after a stroke, it is possible to improve muscle control and vision.👍
Yes, a good thing to note is that this video was about a retinal stroke, You can also have a stroke that affects the visual cortex and other aspects of the brain that control eye movements. Usually, if vision improves past a stroke, it improves over the first 6 months. Vision therapy and special prism glasses can be used to help with the rehabilitation.
This video was so helpful my partner has crvo he has a injection every month, but today when he went for his 5th one he said iit was really painful and now he's in a lot of pain
I shared my story with you on another video, but will post here too since this is the actual topic. In 2017, I was staying in the town where my mom was hospitalized and noticed my vision getting a bit blurry. I figured it was time to see the eye doc to get a new glasses. Well, each day it got worse, so I decided to see an eye doctor in that town. The front desk told me they couldn't see me for 3 weeks, but when I told them my symptoms, they saw me right away. I had a BRVO and had lost about 70% of my vision. The best way to describe it is like I was looking at lasagna noodles, wavy. I got injections of Avastin for the next 2 1/2 years. I'm holding steady at about 35% vision loss, so I got half my vision back. I use Lumigan drops every night to keep the pressure down. Sadly, they never used the word stroke, or recommended that I see my primary care physician, so it was another year before I got my blood pressure under control. Thank you so much, Dr. Allen for the great info provided here!! You are helping so many people.
@@nancyk3677 My doctor is Lemley in Medford Oregon. I got 18 injections over a 2 1/2 year period. No side effects and I regained half of the lost vision. It is actually 36 injections because they give you a shot with a thinner needle with something to numb the eye for the injection of the bigger needle containing the medicine.
I've this condition right now. BP is high - doctor has prescribed for an expansive blood tests of 7 tubes and waiting for the follow up this Thursday to see what's the next course of actions be..
I am 23 with an abnormal high blood pressure. My right eye got busted caused by central retinal vein occlusion. I got a steroid implanted on my right eye to reduce inflammation. It’s been almost 3months now and I can hardly see. Vision on my right eye is so blurry. Hopefully all is well soon. Thanks for the video doc
I love listening to your in depth explanations and of all things eye. It's just so interesting and your explanations are understandable to laymen/women. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for this video. 2 days ago I was diagnosed with a branch vein occlusion with retina damage. Your video has helped me understand that all is not lost as far as my vision disruption goes.
Shontaneika- My vision is 20/400 .. I lost my center vision Giving birth to my daughter, 11 years ago. I’ve been searching for help since then. Every doctor/ specialist have been telling me it’s nothing they could do. My faith won’t let me give up so I’m going to continue too look for help. My nerves in both eyes are damaged .
I was just diagnosed with CRVO in my right eye. I do also have CAD. I do not have high blood pressure, diabetes, or glaucoma. I'm 68 and work out everyday. I noticed a sudden change a few days ago where in had a grey cloud in the upper right corner of my eyesight and things looked blurry. I've had a 1st Avastin injection and tomorrow I go back to my Retinal Specialist for Laser treatment on leaking veins. My Specialist was optimistic of me "seeing" improvement over the next several months. And we go back for a follow up scan and I suspect a 2nd injection in 4 weeks. I really like your video and wanted to reach out and see your thoughts on my situation and prognosis. Thanks so much.
I was diagnosed with an "Eye Stoke" or Retinal Vein Occlusion of my left eye. I have been receiving injections monthly since 2019 but I have never received a clear explanation of what that condition was. This is a fabulous educational video! Future Video Request - I'm hoping to find information of homeopathic methods or eye exercises that may help control the swelling. After a steroid eye injection, the swelling is significantly reduced and vision improves but the swelling always seem to return. Would like additional info whether there is anything I can do to improve the condition.
Thanks for your information. I have been taking Avastin eye injection for three months now for vitrous haemorrhage and now a second one has occurred in the same eye. I am still seeing a little, but I am wondering if I will be able to see much better in the future. The vision is now at 20_13.
The old joke, "I need that like a need a needle in my eye" is about to come true and the joke is on me. I was just diagnosed with BRVO with macular edema yesterday when I saw my ophthalmologist after noticing a problem in my left eye 3-4 days earlier. He referred me (you guessed it) to a retinal specialist, who I will be seeing tomorrow. Really appreciate all of this outstanding information. It will help me better address the questions I'm going to have for my retinal specialist tomorrow. I hope I get some good news. But it sounds like I'll be getting a needle or two in my eye, which I'd rather have than my central vision being a blurry, jumbled mess.
I'm so glad you posted this video! I had my vein occlusion in my left eye when I was 22 and my optometrist at the time said that there was nothing they could do in order to fix the blind spot that was created. I have an eye doctor appointment next week and I'm going to mention this video to him to see if there's anything we can do at this point. You've really opened my eyes! (Pun intended lol)
Can you please tell the reason for your vein occlusion at this young age? I had also vein occlusion and I have taken injection on dec 31st.. But reason is not found out yet..
Thank you so much for the excellent explainer video. I appreciate it so much. This is just what I have been suffering from since 2016 -- on top of my Daltonism from birth. After many, many (like a couple of dozen) Avastin and Eylea injections and a steroid implant that was the mother of all floaters for a couple of years, I am simply frustrated with my condition and stopped having my (right) eye pierced by a needle, however miniscule and thin, periodically, and getting no better vision. I guess I have resigned to having a bad right eye and a better left eye untiI get a stroke (pun not intended) of bad luck and have another episode in my left eye. Maybe have a retina transplant? Stem cell treatment? Laser surgery? A very specific prismatic lens to compensate for the irregularities in my retina surface? I mean, if the medical science today can come up with an mRNA or inactive virus vaccine within a year in response to a virus pandemic instead of like, I don't know, maybe ten years, why can't the researchers do something, anything, to an obviously age-related affliction which will one day visit some (if not most) of them too? Sorry for the rant, but I am frustrated...
Yes. As I suffered an eye stroke/hemorrhage (retinal detachment) due to constant high blood pressure which then begins to cut off oxygen to the arteries in the eye causing it to hemorrhage or "stroke".
@@om_saraswtye_namah Best to go see a retina specialist/ eye doctor. They can determine if the vision cam be saved. You will also need for your father to see a doctor to determine the cause of the high blood pressure and try to control that immediately. As this can lead to even more serious issues not just related to the eye. Hope this helps!🙏
Hi, my father has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion. Firstly, your video has been really helpful for all of us to understand this better. Secondly, i wanted to check if i can reach out to you to consult online specifically for him?
Hi Dr.. Please could you do a video on optic nerve drusen..I’ve had it for the last 15 years and it effects my field of Visio (I don’t drive anymore because of it) I’d love to learn more about it 😃
I had 14 out of 16 chemo treatments. I started seeing multicolor blocks by the 8th treatment off and on. Told the nurse. She just looked at me like she didnt believe me. This was in 2020. I went to my eye doctor last summer. My vision was so bad I couldnt drive. He said that chemo had caused me to have two busted blood vessels in my left eye. Eye doctor said I was looking to have surgery on that eye within the next two years. My vision is messing with me again. I bought new glasses last summer. He told me the busted blood vessels in my left eye are very common with chemo. My vision is 750. I have worn glasses since the 2nd grade. I am 59 years old. My vision before chemo was 650. It changed that fast. I couldnt see the big E on the chart. Also, under my left eye it looks almost like a medium black eye. This is from my busted blood vessel? I am also diabetic type 2. The chemo raised my blood sugar due to the medicine that the nurse injected into my port. My eye is hurting now. Pain off and on. Driving with a hat on. The sun hurts my left eye. Night time, I try to not drive. The vehicles lights, especially the bright ones hurts my left eye. What should I do? Go back to my eye doctor. Have you ever heard of anyone having troubles like this in their eye or eyes from chemo. Thank you for this video.
I had a serious vein occlusion with a lot of macular edema. I was considering stopping the injections (I've had 7), but after watching this, I have more thinking to do.
Late reaction...had a CRVO in 2015. Also had the once a month (experimental) shot in my eye. When I google for info that time, search said that "Eye stroke" is still unexplained, no cure , but vision might or might not return in the future. After watching your vlog today (2021), made me realized I didn't search enough. That it can be explained. My case also had floaters in said eye, and black colored lines looks crooked. I can only see clearly colored things. But thanks for your video. More power to you...
Dr Allen, so glad I found this video. I am a 71 yo female. Last July 17th I awoke and discovered my left eye was completely blurred. I already had an appt with my eye doc 3 days later so I didn't call with an emergency - it did clear a little. My eye doc sent me to the retina specialist, which was a week later. I was told by a resident who was taking my history (UAMS) that dehydration is a cause - I had seen my pcp a few weeks prior bc I had gotten dehydrated - just not drinking enough water. I started taking the monthly injections having received 5 so far. The specialist told me on my last visit that he would extend my visits to every 6-8 weeks to monitor. The blur in the lower right quadrant. It has improved greatly but the vision isn't great, however, the right eye has compensated. The doc told me that it will probably happen again. This concerns me. I worry that it can happen in my R eye then I will be up a creek. What say you? Thank you for your efforts to educate John Q.
I recently had my eyes dilated and right after they were dilated I was in a dark room and they were checking my eye with the bright lights well ever since then I see spots they have not gone away and if I look through those spots and objects the objects multiply, I called my eye doctor and let them know but they denied any accountability for this and I’m thinking about getting a lawyer involved because caused my A lot of pain and my eyes were sensitive for days after and then the spots now Not gone away, what have they told you about possible damage done by I dilation?
I have a terrific ophthalmologist. I’ve received Eyelea injections for over nine years. The eye responds well and I benefit from approximately twelve weeks before the cycles restarts. I’ve the years my visual acuity to read fine detail has eroded. My doctor says this is as good as I get. While still receiving Eyelea in the left eye - the CRVO developed in my right eye as well. I had twelve vials of blood drawn and was referred to an hematologist/oncologist- who found nothing unusual. This eye is more needy, requiring an injection every six weeks or so. I’m really beginning to tire of all of this, but I also treasure my vision. Is there anything more I could consider to improve my outcomes? Thank you, Ron Sherwood in Upstate NY.
Thanks for explaining central venous occlusion. I had this about a year ago, but with COVID restrictions I didn’t go for treatment immediately, had three injections and then laser treatment, most of the retina has died off, and vision is sadly lacking in that eye. It was all explained to me at the time but I didn’t retain the information very well, I was a worried about all the consequences. Thanks.
I had a BRVO in my right eye. Didn't even realize it until I went for a normal annual eye appointment. They did that thing where they look into your eye and saw it. I was told that I had had a stroke in my eye (super scary to hear) and that I might need to have injections in my eye. 😱😱😱I was beyond terrified! When I went for my appointment, the doctor says it takes about 20 seconds (He wasn't exaggerating.) and that I would feel nothing. (He was right.) PLEASE LET ME PUT YOUR FEARS TO REST! If you have to have a shot in your eye: It does not hurt AT All. You don't see the needle coming at you. (That was my fear.) You feel NOTHING. They put numbing drops in your eye a couple times. Then they put a tiny needle (you don't feel anything, not even pressure) in your eye with more numbing meds. So when they give you the actual shot, it's over before you can take a deep breath. Please, if you have to have this, don't be afraid. It's less painful than getting a regular shot in the arm. There is no pain or anything at all.
After cataract surgery (both eyes), extensive white areas under both eyes. Extreme fatigue. Aching around sinus areas. Ophthalmologist made no comment. Just eyes healed well.
I had a right central retinal vein occlusion at 16 years old. I was a healthy kid who did track and field and cross country. The ophthalmologist could not figure out what caused it. I had LOTS of bloodwork done and the cause was never found. I had a series of eye injections over a period of 1 year. Fast forward, I’m 27 now and still have floaters in my eye. The ophthalmologist at the time had around 40 years of experience and had never seen a case at 16 years old. My guess was that I experienced panic attacks and anxiety during that time of my life. Could that be the answer?
Hey thanks for sharing and happy the video has helped. Statins can help a lot of people but it is ultimately a good convo to have with your family doctor or cardiologist. Do you know if it was a BRVO or a CRVO?
EVERYTHING YOU SAID WAS A 100 PERCENT CORRECT.PLEASE DO NOT LAUGH AT ME. BUT, I THINK YOU COULD HELP EVERYBODY NOT ON YOUR LEVEL BY SIDE TRACKING ON YOUR VIDEOS A LITTLE AND GIVE YOUR VERSION AND DEFINITION OF "EYE" WORDS. FOR EXAMPLE, THE OCCLUSION. IT WOULD HELP WANT TO BE FUTURE EYE DOCTORS AND OTHER LAYPERDONS GET A GRASP. HIGHEST RESPECT!
💐👁️👁️Thank you so much Dr. Joseph Allen. You are highly informative I really appreciate your time spending making videos to help us understand why we are having these problems.....👁️👁️thank you
8 months ago I thought I had an eye floater, my ophthalmologist said I had optic nerve swelling and ordered me to go to a neuro ophthalmologist. They wanted to rule out brain tumor since I didn't have any other diagnosis of high blood pressure or diabetes. MRI showed nothing abnormal and within three weeks the swelling was gone but no return to the vision. I wish I had gone to a doctor that would have tried an injection I might have had a fighting chance to have my vision back. Maybe you could do a video on optic nerve swelling, if there's anything further to talk about. Thank you so much
I had a Branch vein occlussion on my right eye (I was 29 years old) in 2017. I’ve been getting injections since then, My vision do gets clear, but as the medication wears off, the macular edema returns ( blurry and distorted vision) . The escotomas (blind spots) seem to be permanent. I was told my occlussion is ischemic. But in more recent angiographies, my Retina Specialist reported that the Ischemia is diminishing. So far I’ve seen several doctors. Some reccomend Laser and Steroid implant, but others are against since I don’t have hemorrages / or neovasculation to justify the use of laser, and the unwanting side effects of steroids (considering my young Age and that the effectiveness of Steroids is equal to the anti-vegs injections) Or at least this is what I’ve been told.
I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through. I hope it’s improved over time, when you say the ischemia is diminishing does that mean the vision is getting better as a result?
@@adamross4927 I would say that the less isquemia my eye experiences, the more time I Can extend time between injections. Right now Is around 9 weeks before symptoms of isquemia (Blurriness, specially right after waking up) slowly returns. My vision lost is unfortunately beyond repair. The best I Can do is prevent lossing more vision.
I was dignose with BRVO after 2 weeks notice this vision block age below 40 still have 2 days to wait to get my 1st injection ...hope recovery does happen for me
happened to my right eye 13 years ago my BP was 240 /180. my GP put me on meds right away. had a heart attack 2 weeks later. i was about 54 when it happened. my vision in that eye after it happened was 20/200.
I also had brvo after Bp 225/125 Didn't know I couldn't see from R eye for a year. ER didnt send me to CT scan bc I was fully awake and talking. If they had it could have been treated asap. No treatment to clear the occlusion now, even with laser. Dr said my eye saved my life, if the stroke was in my head it could have been fatal or totally paralyzed
January 2022, three days after having a Xen stent procedure for glaucoma, I woke one morning with that eye half blind like pulling a window blind half way down, I called my eye doctor and was told to come in immediately, I was put on steroid drops with in 24-72 hours I lost vision in the eye. I was told swelling in the eye was so bad they could not see the back of the eye, a retina specialist was brought in and I was told I had a stroke and the loss of vision is permanent. I went for a second opinion and was told the same, I needed treatment within 90 minutes to save my vision. I've had every test and no one can tell me why this happen, It's hard to believe a stroke came out of no where in the middle of the night blinded me. I was under doctor's care taking blood pressure medicine with a complete physical less than two months before this. So I'm receiving no treatment at all for blindness only to try and save my other eye from glaucoma. The pressure in my blind eye is around 4. Is there nothing that can be done?
I would like to know more about retinal vein occlusion and colitis. I have it in both eyes. Right eye 10 years and now recently the left eye. Enjoyed your video. Lots of information. Thank you.
@Doctor Eye Health Have you done a video on pigmentary dispersion? If not, would you consider it? There seems to be some confusion around pigmentary dispersion, especially with recent advances in prevention and treatment. Thanks!
Wow! So interesting. I had a ruptured brain aneurysm - a right Paraopthalmic aneurysm, which is a type of stroke. Thank God I did not go blind. Every once in a while, maybe once a year, I will experience an ocular migraine. I have noticed that this comes from extremely bright direct light and strobe lights. Maybe this would be a good topic to do a video.
I'm 71yo. I had an attack in my left eye in 1996 and lost part of my vision and pretty much all of my peripheral vision in that eye. They called it Anterior Isch- emic Optic Neuropathy and said it was like a small stroke in my eye. A few years ago, I had to have a cataract removed from that eye and a couple of years ago I developed Glaucoma in both of my eyes. I was born with Myopia and Astigmatism in both of my eyes; so I pretty much hit the Jackpot when it comes to my vision in my eyes. They told me it has some - thing to do with the size and shape of my eyes and a part of the eyes called the "cups". I don't fully understand it. I think it's amazing that the other day at my semi-annual eye exam I could read the line below 20/20 while look - ing through the occular device; though the visual fields in both my eyes could be better. I just hope I can still see if I live to a ripe old age. Just thought I'd share that story with you. 🤓
Thank you for the very informative video. I just experienced an eye stroke in my left eye. It was like a brown shade was being pulled down half way and then 10 seconds later it disappeared. I went to eye doctor then I spent 3 days in the ER doing a stroke work up. Did so many tests. 2 MRIs, cat, echo, spinal fluid test, blood tests. All came back good. Only problem was swollen optic nerve. What would cause a swollen optic nerve?
Hello Dr. I had EYE STROKE - Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion, in both eyes, first in the right, which was mild and then over time in the left, more severe, but they couldn't do anything to me, the good thing was that with the right I can even drive, the left one helps me a little, right now I'm going to see and hear what you explain in your video, I'm very interested...
I have this! I'm in my 6th month since the stroke. Because I have diabetes with high sugars. My stroke was called a diabetic retinopathy. Now I have fog and spots in my eye.
I was just diagnosed with a branch retinal occlusion and my appointment for treatment was scheduled for over two weeks out!! I am calling my doctor tomorrow to get in for that treatment immediately!!! This is nonsense!!!
I woke up Saturday and simply couldn’t see out of my right eye. When he explained it, it sounded like a stroke. I have suffered from a PE about twenty years ago. I am assuming time is of the essence in this matter. I’m not trying to be apocalyptic about this but I am trying to make sure I get the help I need in the most expedient manner. By the by, my blood pressure is not remotely high, it was in fact pretty low when I went in yesterday. 92 over 70. 🤦♀️

Yes it brings much anxiety
May I ask how long it took you to get your vision back?
@@connieblackmon3932 after the hospital gave me the blood thinner my vision came back quickly-maybe 5 hours total without vision. Although it came back it didn't come back the same. I have permanent vision loss in that eye but not blindness so I'm grateful. I see silver swirls that aren't really there however I'm used to it now.
Lucky you regain your vision after it mine is permanently loss
How did you make out with the results of the injection?
IT WILL HEAL WITH FEW INJECTIONS FIRST ONE IS HEAR MY MOM HAD IT
As an Optometrist and Ophthalmic assistant, your videos help me dissect the cases I see every day! Great work, thanks
Same hear!

Waiting to see eye d doctor
Any updates from the retinal doc?
@@coolguy79jeffrey yes he has been doing the shot in his eye every 5 to 6 weeks. And that is helping. Thank you for asking

This is one of the most useful/important channels on youtube.
Possibly an excellent lecture for students studying medicine with a specialty of the eye.
Timely video, I had one of these. Treated with anti-inflammatory drops for six months, Thank you
How is your vision now?
Thanks for making it easier for me to choose ophthalmology as a specialty when time comes!
Love your content man! 👏👏
Glad to hear it! Are you in med school right now?
Yes, third year! In my country, we have 6 years of med school and then after two years of general practice we choose a specialty. Feeling blessed for having it figured out already! 😎
I have learn quite a bit with your teaching. So easy to understand. Thank you
This has happened to my dad. Your explanation was very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you
Hey! Thanks for sharing this. I am indeed working on some more videos on glaucoma. So sorry you went through such a tough time.
Just diagnosed with occular stroke-not reversible he says. I have an appointment with a retina specialist next week. Your video will help me ask the right questions. Thank you.

Learned more from this 1 you tube vidro on my eye health than I ever did from eye doctors thanks
Was the injection painful?
I would live to have the name of those drops my vision is blurred blood in eye they don't see anything

It cannot be more detailed than this. Exceptional work.
THANKS MAN U REALLY HELPED MY GRANDPA OUT
Thank you for talking about diet and exercise. Also advocating for ones healthcare during such events. Very helpful to have terminology as well.
Thank you! This was very informative. I was recently diagnosed with central retina artery occlusion on my right eye- with no other health issues, so the cause of it is still unknown. How common is seeing that in a perfectly healthy person under 50? Another video on this would be amazing! Thanks again!

TOPIC REQUEST! - Contact Lens Peripheral Ulcer and Marginal Keratitis
Hi Dr Allen!
Great questions and topics! I will see what I can do!
Just got diagnosed with this today, and appreciate your video. Going to a retinal specialist tomorrow. Hoping for the best, but pretty scary stuff!
Which type of occlusion did you have?
How r u now??
I found out on Friday I have it and seeing a specialist this Friday can't wait!
What was the symtoms i have one eye and im having problems..please any help
Black spaces or holes in the vision, kind of hard to explain. Get into a retinal specialist immediately.
Who is your doctor? How many times did you have to get the shot? Any side effects?
@@nancyk3677 My doctor is Lemley in Medford Oregon. I got 18 injections over a 2 1/2 year period. No side effects and I regained half of the lost vision. It is actually 36 injections because they give you a shot with a thinner needle with something to numb the eye for the injection of the bigger needle containing the medicine.
I've this condition right now. BP is high - doctor has prescribed for an expansive blood tests of 7 tubes and waiting for the follow up this Thursday to see what's the next course of actions be..
please discuss CRAO and BRAO in another video . thank you so much for what you're doing.
How much blood pressure did you have and are you ok now? Pls reply bro
I had high bloodpressure a few days ago. And now I am seeing rainbow lines iam so scared pls replay
Iam 19 years old
I love listening to your in depth explanations and of all things eye. It's just so interesting and your explanations are understandable to laymen/women. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for this video. 2 days ago I was diagnosed with a branch vein occlusion with retina damage. Your video has helped me understand that all is not lost as far as my vision disruption goes.
Glad it helped! Sorry to hear about the BRVO but I hope things heal up fast for you!

My vision is 20/400 ..
Ye kis type ka hay my also left eye vision is 70% loss what I do this is retina blood clotting that is is there any homeopathic treatment is
P
Oh thank you! I'm sorry that happened but I am happy you liked the video. Do you know what caused the vein occlusion?
Can you please tell the reason for your vein occlusion at this young age? I had also vein occlusion and I have taken injection on dec 31st.. But reason is not found out yet..
@Ruchi Upadhyay are you fine??
My father lost his right eye vision today.
Please tell me what to do
Thank you so much for the excellent explainer video.
Very useful video! I'm studying for my exam and this is really helpful. Thank you!
Well articulated. Thank you. Would you say that high blood pressure is a risk for high pressures in the eye?
Yes. As I suffered an eye stroke/hemorrhage (retinal detachment) due to constant high blood pressure which then begins to cut off oxygen to the arteries in the eye causing it to hemorrhage or "stroke".
@@5100oakland sir having a eye stroke what medication did you do for that?
@@raymondmunoz5332 Lisinopril to control the high blood pressure.
@@5100oakland my father lost his right eye vision today.
And his bP was very high at that time.
What to do now?
Please reply
@@om_saraswtye_namah Best to go see a retina specialist/ eye doctor.
They can determine if the vision cam be saved.
You will also need for your father to see a doctor to determine the cause of the high blood pressure and try to control that immediately.
As this can lead to even more serious issues not just related to the eye.
Hope this helps!🙏
You very good with your explanations .
Thank you & God.
Hi, my father has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion. Firstly, your video has been really helpful for all of us to understand this better. Secondly, i wanted to check if i can reach out to you to consult online specifically for him?
Many thanks for this information! Post RD is such a complex issue. Patience of steel is need by those affected by it.
Hi Dr..
Please could you do a video on optic nerve drusen..I’ve had it for the last 15 years and it effects my field of Visio (I don’t drive anymore because of it) I’d love to learn more about it 😃
Great suggestion! I did a case presentation on that during my externships as a student!
Commendable Lectures,,refreshed my memory on the topic...
Had a patient recently with CRVO secondary to hypertension...
😢DR.ALLEN I THOUGHT MY I WAS GOING TO BUST !!! CRAO IS WHAT THEY COULD COME UP WITH BUT YOU EXPLAINED IT ALL RIGHT JUST NOW !😢
Thank you. Mom got eye stoke. Scary experience. She got better and get her vision back after the injection.
I have same problem, can you please tell me after how many injection she got well and what kind of injection was it. Thank you.
Kinda funny that I just learned about this yesterday at school, I'm a second year optometry student in the netherlands
Thank you,
Ron Sherwood in Upstate NY.

Thanks.
How much time you delayed?

Hey, can u please make a video on how to prevent veiny eyes, tells us ur secret on how u managed ur eye to be perfect looking?
Thank u soo much u r education a lot of people accross the world 🙏 Here in India we don't have many means to learn these things...love from india ❤️
It's my pleasure! Many Blessings!
Same like us out here in Zambia Africa
Thank you, great lecture. Clear and very easy to understand.
Hey thanks! Glad you liked it.
Thank you for your explanation actually am facing the same issue block veins in my left eye
Just diagnosed with rvo yesterday . Blood pressure meds increased. I am age 70 . Should I consider Statins now ? Great Video & Many Thanks.
Hey thanks for sharing and happy the video has helped. Statins can help a lot of people but it is ultimately a good convo to have with your family doctor or cardiologist. Do you know if it was a BRVO or a CRVO?
BRVO@@DoctorEyeHealth

Your so good at explaining I think people would appreciate it. Thanks😊
You smashed! It out of the ballpark Doc! :)

Any treatment for this
Great topic! Thanks for the idea!
happened to my right eye 13 years ago my BP was 240 /180. my GP put me on meds right away. had a heart attack 2 weeks later. i was about 54 when it happened. my vision in that eye after it happened was 20/200.
I also had brvo after Bp 225/125
Didn't know I couldn't see from R eye for a year.
Thanks!
I only briefly mentioned it in a video about different types of glaucoma, but not a dedicated video. I will see what I can do. Thanks
Extremely informative video! Thank you so much for this information.
Can you please make a video on how eyes react to nutritional deficiencies and on eye twitches. Thanks for the great videos.
I'm 71yo. I had an attack in
my left eye in 1996 and lost
part of my vision and pretty
much all of my peripheral
vision in that eye.
They called it Anterior Isch-
emic Optic Neuropathy and
said it was like a small stroke
in my eye.
A few years ago, I had to have
a cataract removed from that
eye and a couple of years ago
I developed Glaucoma in both
of my eyes.
I was born with Myopia and
Astigmatism in both of my
eyes; so I pretty much hit the
Jackpot when it comes to my
vision in my eyes.
They told me it has some -
thing to do with the size and
shape of my eyes and a part
of the eyes called the "cups".
I don't fully understand it.
I think it's amazing that the
other day at my semi-annual
eye exam I could read the
line below 20/20 while look -
ing through the occular device; though the visual
fields in both my eyes could
be better.
I just hope I can still see if I
live to a ripe old age.
Just thought I'd share that
story with you.
I already saw the video Dr. and that's what happens to me, everything you says is very accurate...thank you...
I have this! I'm in my 6th month since the stroke. Because I have diabetes with high sugars. My stroke was called a diabetic retinopathy. Now I have fog and spots in my eye.
Me too😢
I was just diagnosed with a branch retinal occlusion and my appointment for treatment was scheduled for over two weeks out!! I am calling my doctor tomorrow to get in for that treatment immediately!!! This is nonsense!!!
Also, “I” am the one who asked if I had a stroke in my eye when they explained it.
92 over 70. 🤦♀️
Also, all I can do from home is to put my self on a low dose aspirin regimen. I am also over fifty and have diabetes in my family.
