I was diagnosed with Wet Macular Degeneration about 5 months ago when I had cataract surgery on my right eye. I have since been getting monthly Avastin injections. I didn't notice any improvement until I started taking Spirulina 6 weeks ago. Not only do I have improved vision but the cataract in my left eye has become clearer.
@Sherry Delmen I used a brand called NOW from Amazon. I take 8 x 500 mg tabs a day. The reason I bought it wasn't for my eyes but because I was tired all the time. I just found out about the eye benefits later. The Avastin injections were costing me $700 a month vs Spirulina at $10 a month.
I have this too. Was born with it and my mother noticed it when I was starting to crawl/walk. I'd go to pick a toy up and reach for it too soon and missing either above, below, left, right. I got signed off for any further consultant appointments as I was told at 15 years old (i'm 45 now) that there's little to nothing can be done, glasses etc didn't help at all. They could never find a lens combo. I'm worried now though. At 45 I was thinking about how I could still read newspapers 10-15 years ago but the condition had got worse subtly , too little steps to notice I guess. But now i'm looking at things I could see 12 months ago compared to now. I also used to be able to read paper mail/letters up until last year but I can't do it now. I have to snap a photo of it with my phone and then invert the colours. Anything printed on white that I am asked to read/write from/to basically just washes all the text of the document away. As I said initially too and it's scaring me more than what it did when I was younger. If I am noticing things changing within 6 months of being able to I could then do but can't any more I started to wonder exactly now long I have left before I can't either focus or completely ruined vision. When my consultant discharged me he said "At least you can cling on to knowing that we've only found 3 other people (UK) with a complete match of symptoms and sure enough, I never have met anyone with the same issues as myself. It's been a rock around my neck for my entire life. Keep it up though. This was a really interesting video.
@@zichaowang8617 Thanks., Believe me though, at times I really do think about the many experiences of life I can never take part in, such as driving which instantly puts me at the mercy of unreliable public transport or getting taxi to places. The worst aspects are and always have been is walking past family members or people i've known my entire life and not be able to focus well enough (i'd say less than 1 metre) to recognise them. Or if I start a new job as, depending on lighting, I could be focusing (as far as I was concerned) on them and they'd rudely tell me or ask me why I'm not looking at them whi8lst talking as my eyes would either be slightly to the left or the right to get my peripheral vision to do the work. I then have the unpleasant task of politely telling them why it is happening. It would then make them embarrassed and me feel awkward doing so. It's not a nice condition to live with right from birth rather than the age related variety. EDIT: not taking anything away from Age Related MD for the sentence above. It's not nice for this to happen to anyone at any time. Take care! :)
retinitis pigmentosa ? in my country there is 1 man can cure all blindness only with eye drop, according to 1 of his patient who got wet amd and glaucoma he is cured 100 after maybe 2 year treatment
Much thanks, this is very informative. Along with the genetic component is high "good" HDL say above1.65 mmol/L. My HDL cholesterol is a whopping 2.27 mmol/L (88 mg/dL?) hence dry AMD. Whether the HDL is disfunctional is a mystery.
I have an early stage of Dry AMD having a hole in my Macula in my right eye. I am 66, can i avoid surgery? Can this be healed with medicine , such as pills?. thank you
I have both wet and dry. I also have catracts. Catracts can cause vision loss. But Doctors told me Amd was my main problem. I still think it both. So why not remove the catracts to help vision
I believe the right terminology is LIFESTYLE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION or perhaps DRUG-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION and not age otherwise, we're all gonna be blind...
Excellent video. Very helpful and informative
