I had the privilege of seeing Queen LIVE in Florida in 1977 (Senior year of High School). It remains the best single concert I have ever attended. The energy pulsating through the crowd was almost overwhelming. They performed for 2 1/2 hours but we would have stayed forever. I'm thrilled that so many young people are discovering this amazing group of musicians -- it just proves that truly great music is timeless.

Freddie Mercury: the greatest singer, songwriter, musician and frontman of all time! Freddie was pretty much self taught ( except for choir at Boarding School). Brian May jokes that when they first got Queen together, Freddie wasn't the great singer we know now. But after less then a month of being able to listen back to the tapes of his singing, he became the Freddie we know. The raw talent was there, Freddie just had to figure out how to use his incredible voice. I highly recommend the live version of White Queen and You Take My Breath Away. They will blow you away!

Dani Atkinson White Queen Live At Hammersmith Odeon 1975 to be exact. Queen is the only band in history where each member wrote a #1 song while part of the same band. The band is composed of 4 very talented musicians, although John Deacon, bass, would be first to admit he doesn’t sing, the other 3 were singers. Freddy often said he wasn’t the leader of the band, just the lead singer. The other 3 were happy to let Freddy be the focus of the band, but they all contributed to the music. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Queen isn’t part of Freddy Mercury....Freddy Mercury is part of Queen. Don’t underestimate the rest of the band 😉. Freddy was the GOAT of front men though!

The greatest frontman to ever grace the stage. Brian (Guitarist) could have fronted any other band he wanted, and Roger (The Drummer) could have done the same. They were a family and they protected each other (Freddie Mercury's final days, an eighteen-minute documentary shows), and even when they parted ways in 1986 after the 1985 farm aid (they stole the stage) never lost touch. Truly amazing.

One of my personal favorites is White Queen live at the Hammersmith Odeon from 1975. I'd love to hear a singer's perspective on his voice in this. Freddie had no formal training in singing or music. Some piano lessons in boarding school but he could not sight read music at all. If he heard a song once he could play it and he composed in his head then took it to the piano. His education was in design but he preferred music as did the others in the group. All have college degrees, Brian May the guitar player has a PhD in astrophysics, Roger the drummer a degree in biology and was in dental school when he opted to do music instead and John the bass player has a degree in electronics. Queen were a great rock band. I'm glad you chose to react to one of their live concert performances. Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest lead singers of any rock band and he was such a showman on stage. If you want to explore more of their music, I have suggestions of several of their best songs for you to react to. They are "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Are The Champions", "We Will Rock You", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Another One Bites The Dust", and "Under Pressure". As an Elvis fan, I think you'd really appreciate "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". It is a rockabilly-type song that Elvis would've recorded. Also, Freddie sings this song in an Elvis-style vocals. Always great to see a new Queen fan. Freddie Mercury was not trained. He had a band in school but he didn't sing, he played piano. He got to grade 4 piano but got bored with playing other peoples music. He could hear music and play it perfectly on the piano. He taught himself guitar as well. It is interesting you noticed that he can sing above the band because Brian May had his guitar turned up to blasting so Freddie had to have his mic turned up louder. Freddie gave 110% every concert and expected those around him to do the same. The drummer, Roger Taylor and the guitarist, Brian May harmonize beautifully with Freddie. For early Queen watch White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975 and You Take My Breath Away Live in Hyde Park 1976. To hear Roger Taylor's operatic voice listen to In the Lap of the Gods Live at the Rainbow 1974. Enjoy Queen!

You can hear Freddie practicing his operatic voice in "Exercises in Free Love" He could hit just about every note from the bottom of the keyboard to the top. He was a vocal God. He detested lip syncing. He and the band were always better live than recorded, because they were better than the editing machines. Even on the rare occasion Freddie's voice cracked....he still did it in tune...lol. He has been recently nicknamed the human auto tune, since they didn't have back when he was singing. He wouldn't have needed it anyhow 😀

Exercises In Free Love is not really opera, it is countertenor. If you want to hear Freddie singing opera you have to listen to Ensueno - Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe ua-cam.com/video/vZ7OLCPsiiE/v-deo.html.

@@DaniAtkinson When they were on Top of The Pops (a British music chart show that used to give you the top 40 pop hits every week) because they all had to lip sync, he used to mess up the lip sync. Like not singing into the mic, or not sticking strictly to where he would sing on the backing tape.

@@DaniAtkinson once you delve into their back catalogue you will find some stuff you won't believe, their smooth backing vocals are just beautiful! they were'nt just a hard rock band belting out loud music on stage, they have a lot of very delicate and intricate stuff too, they cover every style of music and on some tracks do jazz, vaudeville and opera! even if you dont review them i will give you some songs to listen to at home and see what you think of them? but do the studio versions first! love of my life, seaside rendezvous, bring back that leroy brown and just because brian plays a jazz band on his guitar good company! enjoy dani xx

May I suggest that you react to his WHOLE concert at Wembley in 1986. This may have to be broken down into 5 takes but I guarantee to you that you will be mesmerised not only by the vocal range but also the fact he seems to be able to sing any genre of music. The anthems of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ & ‘Innuendo’ (studio versions) are testimony to that fact. His duet with Montserrat Caballé, ‘Barcelona’ is pure magic. You will amass a great following from fans of Queen
