This video is so detailed & explains everything. The other videos are no way this helpful. Thanks for share this video. After watching this video I had piston & cylinder on in about 8 too 10 minutes. Please keep more detailed videos coming. Thanks brother & ride safe. Now its time to watch your install on the head.

Somebody has given me this exact bike. I had to rebuild the top end, replace all the plastic because it was left next to a bonfire, I virtually rebuilt the whole thing, I took me months. I Really Got a lot of info from these videos. I'm an Instrumentation/ controls tech by trade but I worked at a machine shop building engines right out of H.S. I wish more young people would take to fixing old things instead of wanting new everything. Nothing wrong with putting a little work into something.

Omg I had the hardest time getting that circ-Clip in there with cold hands

Did you not check your ring gap before installing the rings into the piston?

    Hello John,
I have a 2002 trx350 with 75.2PSI of compression that puts out a tonne of white smoke from cold to fully warmed up and burns a lot of oil, cylinder and piston don’t have a scratch anywhere I’m going to do valves anyway but do you think it could be piston rings? also there was a channel from one head bolt to the other that formed underneath the head gasket could that be causing the oil burning?
    Thanks in advance!

Sometimes mine does crank over and clicks when I push the starter. I have to pull the crank cord and move it and then it will start. What does this mean? Bad starter motor? or something in the lower end? Thank you - David

If, ring compression 1, the gap on the intake it can damage the boring or not ?

hey guys how do i raise my piston on a honda 350 rancher 4x4

  • @jonhunt5408

I found it was easier to insert the piston into the cylinder, then install the assembly onto the rod.

Yes way easier. I broke one of the rings first time trying his method then I tried your method next time and it's way easier and better.

I'm confused. does the bore size matter? if so what size do I need for a stock rancher? some people are saying 78.46 and others are saying 78.71. I dont wanna bore it out or anything like that I just want to replace everything, and have a four wheeler that doesnt smoke.

What did you set the ring gap at?

Ring gaps are 120 degrees apart

@@andyhegwood9387 he is referring to the gap between the rings themselves when compressed. Not the ring clocking lmao. What a noob response.

I have one that was given to me and the engine is friction siezed due lack of oil. Do you have any advice on how to fix it myself.

You can follow the vids for the top end. You're going to have to rebuild the whole motor.

I just rebuilt the top end on my 350 rancher and when I started it up it started leaking oil from the cylinder to block gasket. Any ideas? I used a Chinese gasket and no gasket maker.

    • @PartzillaParts

Any good machine shop that works on engines can do it. You should be able to find one in a neighboring city.

Should I clean the inside of the cylinder? And if so with what (thanks in advance 😄)

Yes, just use some contact cleaner and make sure there is no debris.

You mentioned getting over sized rings and piston but didnt mention if you bored out the cylinder yourself or if it was required at all b/c of the oversized piston/rings. Can I just use a honing wheel?

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  5 років тому

Typically, send out for boring, then get the oversized rings and pistons to match new size.

I sure do wish you didn't edit the video and show actually how difficult it is getting that pesky cir clip in place when the piston is on the crank rod. Talk about a pain in the rearend. Folks, it's no where as easy as John Talley makes it in this video.
