I bought my first pocketknife (Medford) last year at age 52. I didn' need a knife for so long and i only use them to open boxes with new knifes. So i don't need a $300,- knife or a $15,- one. I just love them and own about 60 right now....
for me, with knives, it's never a matter of need. I have $25 eafengrow's and I have a $500 sebenza 31 in magna cut.. a knife is as sharp as I make it. I love all my knives, the cheap ones and the expensive one's. the expensive one's just make me feel better. some guys collect art, cars, watches, wives, I like knives because even at the higher end, they're still way less expensive than some other collectables.
The Swiss Tech is designed as a bushcraft knife. The blade is more of a wedge shape, that is why it batons so well... The sheath for it sucks though... Other than the welt the leather is so thin, you can almost see through it. Making the handle without ANY kind of finger guard was also frankly stupid...
