Couldn't agree more. The TV analysis is so bad I almost prefer the adverts to the 'expert punditry'.
"He got a bit quick on that one." "That wasn't a good swing, you could see him save it at impact." No he didn't. No you can't. Please stop talking.

Dude, you are by far MY favorite golf guy on UA-cam. There are a couple others I like (Finch and Fried Eggs) but the quality of content you produce along with your raw honesty is hard to find. Not saying others don't provide the same things but the way you do it is unmatched. You keep doing you, brah.

However I will say more. Of all the videos you have produced and I literally have watched them all (just ask my wife) this one speaks the loudest to the state of golf. So many people, myself included, getting horrible advice and theories jammed in our heads that can ultimately hurt a lot of golfers. This is absolutely spot on, quality to the highest degree.

Mark, I agree that on PGA tour, the announcers try to give so much analysis that it gets annoying. I would rather listen to feritiy and McCord banter back and forth and watch them play. Personally, I started watching LPGA and LET because of my girls and love it much more. Judy Rankin and Karin Stubles give great views as color commentators. Plus, watching the ladies course plan is amazing to watch. #lpgaisthebest #globaltour

8:25....Not just the golf industry. With any industry...with life in general. One has to sift through 99% of the crap to get to someone who truly understands a particular subject and a specific problem. Such is life. Most people have never heard this expression, "better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." People want answers to certain questions and there are plenty of people that want to give answers. Problem is that most answer givers don't want to do the work to examine the problem. They simply want to be heard...even if what they say is completely wrong. It's an ego issue.

Just saw this now. Well said. Well explained. Great point. Remember how everyone slagged Tiger's "head dip" on the backswing? I've watched videos of Ben Hogan and Moe Norman and guess what? Formerly successful pro golfers are typically the worst to have in the TV commenter's seat. They simply MAKE STUFF UP. Patently false commentary that even a rank beginner knows is wrong. Miller and Wadkins are among the worst, to name names (at least here in the US). Their air of authority and knowledge is actually pretty nauseating. The best TV tournament coverage I've ever watched was one done in Spanish, which I don't really understand - I could hear the sounds, get the emotional aspect of what was going on, but wasn't frustrated by having to endure the mounds of BS.

Just a great and honest perspective. There are good mainstream guys on CBS, BBC, Seven, NBC or Sky.... there are others who do love the sound of their voice. It’s filling dead air time. Love and appreciate this perspective Mark. It should be welcomed and embraced. Even if someone disagrees with you, it should be embraced. Your early videos used to say “let’s keep the conversation going” (or something like that) and anyone who challenges that is crazy. Why wouldnt we want different opinions?

Oh UA-cam Pga coaches !! The problem is that when you begin to play, you just want to improve fast and play the level of golf that you see others achieve. So you believe there must be a ‘secret’ move that may be revealed by the next PGA coaches UA-cam video (They usually contain the words “most golfers”). So you soak it all up (drill after drill) thinking you may have found the answer. However I did listen to you saying “go and get a lesson”. So I’m getting there bit by bit with ‘one to one’ lessons with my coach.

Well said Mark but i too would like to make a point about Golf Pro's and there comparison's with Tour Pro's in Golf Tuition. In my opinion, the Worlds Elite Golfers are each to there own unique and individual, it's dishonest to say that Amateurs can learn from the Pro's!! This is what I'd say at liest 95% of Online Coaches base there Teaching on. This too must change, teaching should be based on what the coach is seeing with the person he is coaching. Far too many online Pro's are quick to put up a video of a Elite, and start rambling on how this is the best example of whatever!! A good confident Pro will just teach all the things relivent to the average golfers needs.

So happy that this has finally been raised as an issue. It's one of the reasons I watch less golf and look for highlights instead now. I'm so sick and tired of 'experts' giving out advice during the slo mo, but what grates me even more than this, is the 'back to the studio' moment where two experts attempt to show us, the viewers how to fix someone else's alleged problem. The amount of times I hear 'I saw this on the golf yesterday, so I'm going to try it' followed by a miriad of crap shots because they're trying something that they haven't been truly 'taught' is shocking! Awesome video Mark.

    @ThorinOakenshieldGSD2023 6 років тому

Good job Mark. I don't know if you have had a chance to test the M3, M4 drivers, if so I have a question. Tiger was driving the ball well in the Bahamas at the Hero using an M2. We all saw the driving performance at the Farmers Insurance Open. When Rick Shiels tested the M3 and M4 with twist face he found a problem for him. He uses bulge and roll, the gear effect, the heel and toe to create shot shape. The Twist Face is supposed to give longer distance well straightening the ball, he didn't see it straighten so much as lengthen, but he did see it interfere with his intended shot shape. (similar analysis by the average golfer)
Going a little on what Peter Kostis who was on sight, on the ground with the crew was saying mostly based on set up, it seemed the when Tiger was trying for draws and fades he wasn't getting expected results. Can this be a case of the new tech being the difference between what we saw at the Hero, and what we saw at Torrey (realizing differing conditions have an impact as well).
I realize there are other people playing twist face, and doing OK. Makes me wonder about if all of them actually have the technology in the club. But during the post round interview Tiger said he had hit the M2 well, but had swing changes which were the reason the M3 wasn't performing. Wonder if Taylormade outsmarted themselves by not positioning this and the M4 as "game improvement" not pro level equipment.

Great video. The whole Tiger analysis has been getting on the nerves recently. How can these people make a comment on anyone’s swing, from any camera angle, if they don’t know what the player is trying to achieve? It’s nonsense. Completely agree with the comments regarding bad coaching because I’ve been there, and thought “you literally have no idea what you’re on about have you?” Whilst buzz words are thrown about, whipped inside, across the line, stuck behind, flipping. A good coach is worth their weight in gold, and there ain’t many about

Crossy, I don’t think the coach could get info to a player that would not take loads of time, and would risk the player being disqualified. In my opinion, it would not be worth the risk to the players credibility and tarnishing of the players reputation. If we had more information as viewers, it would make the viewing of golf more entertaining to the more learned golfer and give the experts more to explain to the viewer then “getting stuck” 50 Times a telecast. Golf is ridiculous to watch on television now. Too many commercials, boring coverage, lack of technology for most shots. Rubbish. I hope to see big changes in golf commentary.

Interesting comments Mark. Re camera angles - here's a thought...Could you install an overhead camera in your teaching bay Mark? For example check this out ua-cam.com/video/CuUDw_8lqf0/v-deo.html which shows Rory's left knee staying out over his left foot until just before impact. You wouldn't be able to see that so well or see how much from a traditional face on view and it would be obscured by the right leg in a down the line view...

Was my video at a bad angle? I shot it directly behind me. It’s the swing under my old UA-cam account Sean Groomer. I have other videos of swings but they’re not from completely lined up like the one from the range was. I think my problem is high hands. Playing baseball my entire life were taught hands first and keep your weigh on your back foot. So I was wondering what will get me out of the Rhythm of the high hands.

Love it!!! Goes back to trying to take lessons. I'm in North East Pennsylvania, and have no idea who to actually try to get lesson from. I've attempted it twice, and basically wanted to just bang my head off a wall lol. I know you're far away but being in the business do you have any ideas of teachers in eastern pa?!?

Fantastic video Mark! What’s your take on US PGA Tour coverage v UK European Tour?

I get where your going but I’d like to see you get more specific. Not necessarily who said what but what they said and about which ‘bad’ swing Tiger made...& how you would analyze the swing. Cheers brah!

I can imagine Mark's commentary on the golf channel when asked about a player's swing: "I don't know, Bob, we'd need measuring eh?!"

Mark you are spot F'ing on with what your saying. I've thought this while watching but thought "I must be wrong since these commentators were good to great pro golfers so they must know what they're talking about I suppose?".
    Love the no B.S. approach.

Mark - Such a timely video after I watched quite a bit of the coverage of the Farmers this weekend. I think for the first time I actually thought to myself about some of the commentary - please stop trying to dissect Tiger’s every little twitch and sniff. It was borderline insulting at times. I know we have been starved of time of one of the greatest to ever play the game, but please let’s just calm down and give the guy chance to get his tourney legs back.
At times during those rounds his short game and putting was majestic. It was a real treat to see him hitting flop shots and delicate chips like the Tiger we all know...what an amazing talent. I do think the media and commentators have sunk into an even deeper chasm since he’s been out the last 2-3 years and now he’s unfortunately going have all their little grubby eyes fixated on him with their fix-it 101 solutions ready to roll off the tongue.
May just have to watch with the volume turned down...
Keep up,the great content and topics that others do not want to be bringing up out of fear. Push us forward bruh!!

It makes me laugh now how bad some people are are telling us what we are doing wrong and they don't know the 101 things you mentioned. I just think Wait till Mark sees this it will be funny. Tiger 14 majors must know what he is doing, he is not a 28 hcp struggling with a big slice. I could sit there talking about Tigers swing but as Coach says I would have nothing but good things to say. Big event finished in the top 25... I think a lot of pro's would take that...

The only good advice I've ever heard on the swing that actually works came from Hank. Hank doesn't really look at the swing either, he looks at ball flight and can tell what is happening. If you want to draw it, swing to the right (right handed golfer). If you want a cut, swing to the left. These paths produce both of those shots for me and its worked marvelously. My swing doesn't look like anyone's on tour but I usually hit my shapes so I am happy.

Do you feel that the "analysis" these guys are giving is linked to the generic tips given by coaches in golf mags mark? i.e "to hit a draw do .....", "to hit low do...." All these general tips thrown out there having not seen what other faults the player already has,and what faults taking the "tips" could create in another part of their swing. P.s love how coach switched off of convo three quarters through and started practicing his swing! 🤣🤣 loving your work brah!

It's not exclusive to golf brah! Football has its fair share of punditry blaggers also. TV consistently devalues its audience, offering up poor quality, ill thought through, cheap content that offers zero insight.

    Well said, Mark.
All I got from Sky Sports Golf on the weekend was some dude that looked like a cannon ball and a blonde in a ball dress filling time by Tiger bashing and feeding me third-rate sports psychology mumbo jumbo.

What an incredibly passionate and drop dead honest message which stripped the veneer of your conformism off.You actually looked uncomfortable as you dealt with the issue of media hype.
Well done - keep on doing what you do.

The guy in the studio during sky's coverage of the farmers was an absolute nightmare. Making the swing so complicated and coming up with all these pseudo scientific terms which meant nothing . You just know you'd benefit more by having one lesson from Parfield compared to ten from that guy .
