This has been my look for over 40 years. My style has always been " woodland cottage ". NIce to see it coming back.
it's been my way of life....I just chuckle when they say it's a new trend....ummmmm, nope....but go on thinking that way...I will be here enjoying my treasures.
Mine also. Kind of English country look.
Yes, my interior design aesthetic for the last 15 years had been English cottage garden.
Same
Yes! I have always loved this style, since my high school bedroom. I'm curious what's bringing it to the forefront at the moment, but suspect just too much modern minimalism. The pendulum is always swinging!
This has always been me. In high school friends would tell me to stop dressing like an old lady. But who doesn’t love sundress’ and cardigans.
And beautiful gunne sax dresses!
Right? “That outfit ages you...” well great, because #grandmalifeat30!
I do, but I am a teacher and that’s kinda our thing too. I guess you could add librarians to that list also- grannies, teachers and librarians 😂
@@Flowersandshotguns Yep, grandma life at 30! That's me!
@@SJ-ni6iy Haha, so true! I was also an elementary teacher until my kids were born.
I feel like I've been living cottage core for the last 40 years. It's so comfortable.
Yeah, I didn't know that was my style till this year when I heard about it. It has always been my style
Me too!! Since I was a kid I’ve been drawn to this asthenic.
A return to reality in the design community.
@@tracyeast3397 this is exactly it!!! I’ve always loved it without knowing it and when I would try to force other “trends” it just never felt right. Until now!
I'm 65 - I called my style Early Yard Sale! Gosh, I didn't know I was trendy. AWESOME, I'm finally cool!
at 70 I feel like the world has finally caught up to me... I have been using lots of books, candles, paintings, wood furniture... and color! I have had an oxblood red wall since the 90s.. never tire of it.. charm,,, charm.. charm.. its a cozy hug of a home ... my sanctuary
I too have lots of color on my walls. At the moment I’m trying to decide what to paint my pantry. I also have leather bound books and lots of self made crafts scattered around the place. Minimalism never appealed to me. I don’t like clutter either though. There’s a fine line between cozy and charming and just plain cluttered. It’s all in the display I think.
I have adored ox blood since a child. Old barns were the start. When I realized people painted their houses the same, drool. Its my dream home. An ox blood colored house with vines crawling up the exterior, and a beautiful garden taking up 3 corners of the yard. 💚
@@FolkFaninMA ooo..yes. colours! I tried the all white walls but it lasted only for a year. 😁
Finally it’s back! I’ve been longing for the days of cabbage roses, authentic Laura Ashley, Claire Murray, Lavender and Old Lace, Victorian Papers and chintz! When will designers realize that most women really enjoy femininity? So happy I saved my old fabrics and magazines!
OH YES!!!!!!!!
Kindred Spirit, I totally agree with you.
I almost lost my reason when I found out that Laura Ashley has gone out of business! Gah!
Femininity in the true sense!
@@kathleenclark5877 I know right?! It was the first store I went to on my rare visits to the mall. I can remember saving up for months to purchase one of her dresses! I found the LA outlet store in Florida where I was living at the time and made regular pilgrimages there. I found a hole-in-the-wall fabric outlet in North Carolina that sold her mill end fabrics and made all kinds of home decor that I could have never afforded from her store. Those were the good ole days. Wow! I’ve missed them!
The French has lived by this cozy , classy , inviting no fuss lifestyle for centuries.....enjoy life and make memories in your home .❤️
Yes, it's very effortless elegance. I was a nanny to ppl who lived in gorgeous old castles. This is how they lived.
Yes, I live in Alès and our home is like this!
I’m over white and grey. I’ve always loved my cardigans and books. I don’t want a house that’s polished and perfect. I want a place that’s welcoming and homey. Also, my last name is Clutter.
Yay Mrs. Clutter! 💖
White and grey are lovely hair colors.
@@Schnort I wear those well.
This has been my style for years and years. English Country style and COLOR.
Me as well
Me too!!
Right?!? Color!❤️ why the hatred of color last decade?!? I just can’t do grey. It’s like MEH!
I think it was popular 8n part because it's a no brainer to decorate with all white or all gray. No mixing or matching. Just throw it in there.
@@franceswitham8214 and often cheaper to produce.
YES! Finally! LOL, I was Cottage Core when Cottage Core wasn't cool! I enjoyed and embraced some aspects of Farmhouse but Cottage has always been me. Thank You for sharing, Always enjoy your videos!
Me too 🤗💕
Funny, I just made almost the same comment!
Me too!
Me three. :-)
I have always loved cottages, even though I live in a ranch style house right now. And probably my forever home! Lol. I’m looking for a name for my home. Any ideas?
So happy to hear more personality is coming back into home decor. The minimalist style looks like it no one lives there!! Looks like a showroom.
All starts to look the same, too!
I know many love farmhouse, but I feel it is very impersonal looking. I could go shopping in one day and replicate many of those homes. I love Sarah's home, no one could replicate that, it would take a very long time to try and do it.
@@cinder8290 whose Sarah's home?
@@cinder8290 really? Looks like a typical thrift store imo 🤷🏻♀️
A few years ago I completely redecorated in a coastal style, but lately I've been adding things to achieve more of a "coastal cottage" style, and I'm loving it! Recently a friend visited who I haven't seen in a long time, and she gasped when she walked in to my home and raved about what she saw. She said my house made her feel as though someone was giving her a big, cozy HUG! For me that is the highest compliment, made my day!
I’ve been looking for “coastal cottage” inspo! 🥺
My time has finally arrived 🙂. This has been my “style” for ever, it’s a collector’s curated life. I’m happy 😊
This is the sort of decorating that embraces people’s collections: things they have acquired along the way that reflect their tastes and their lives. That whole minimalist dentist office look from my point of view is cooooold. The gallery wall with a collection of beloved prints or photographs or whatever is so warm and inviting. I like to be able to enter a person’s house and look at his/her/their taste(s). This is their living space. One would hope that they “live” there as opposed to exist there or use the home as somewhere to drop off their luggage. I have a number of different like things that I have collected. I just “finished” (well, really does that ever really happen?) a print collection in my living room of a series of moments from “The Lady of Shalott” poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. I am a retired English teacher ... who knew? I am so pleased with the effect. Plus other collections dotted around the house. The effect for me is wraparound warmth and a reflection of who I am and my taste. So, I am so,glad the pendulum has swung, as it inevitably should, back to scoochy furniture with layered patterned pillows and books and WALLPAPER! So love this vlog and affirms the fact that despite the fact that I am old as dirt, I am ahead of the trend ... by a decade or so. Oh, and a colleague and his wife who are now my best friends in retirement and increasing debilitation will not allow me to change my former “study/library” which is wallpapered and chintzed within an inch of its life (and which I did ... gah ... in the eighties). Again the pendulum element. So I looove this trend that you have discussed in this vlog. I feel personally vindicated! And , keep up the good work! Thanks so much.
I love what you wrote!!! Love..💕and I'm older than dirt too lol
So funny that you said “dentist office” - the way I describe homes I’m not comfortable in is by saying “it feels like the waiting area of a doctors office”.
Yes, my bedroom is done in a nice watery blue as she described. I have a 1940 drop-leaf mahogany desk and windsor chair. Also bookcase loaded with old books. Above, are some shelves with my beloved Beswick Beatrix Potter figurines that I collected 40 years ago. I love that room. It is me.....
@Kathleen Clark now I want a tour of YOUR home! 🤗💙🌹
Yes! I am an eclectic person and need my style to reflect that.
This is English Country to me and I love it! I've been decorating this way for years. It's just so cozy and comfortable. I've always loved bookshelves filled with books and things. Floral curtains, wallpaper, plants all around, candles and vases of flowers. Second hand furniture and nothing too fussy.
It is so "Country Living" from the 1990's which I loved so much then. Everything old is new again!
Yes! I am so happy that I kept all of my old stuff. Used it for 50 yrs now. Just kept adding nice old things as time went on. So cozy and dear to me.
hopefully without everything being painted hunter green this time. Lol
I love it!!! I was obsessed with "the secret garden" as a kid and it reminds me of that.
Yes! Me too. Love The Secret Garden!
That was my favorite book also...It's a very old European style actually. Been around since forever, but the 90s made it stylish with Rachel Ashwells Shabby Chic line.
@@MarzannaMorana I don't think it is the same as shabby chic. I have always had a cottage style decor, but I am not into the shabby ness of shabby chic. I don't like the chipped paint and old things that appear to need some love from someone.I prefer antiques to be restored to as close as when they were new as possible and totally still functioning as they originally did.
This is the style I have been unconsciously veering toward. I love it , I no longer care if someone else thinks it’s cluttered. I love thrifting and I love bookcases and tables, and displaying my finds
It’s the Mary Englebrei era all over again. With Echoes of Tasha Tudor. Love that.
Perfection !!! :)
Oh yeah love it!
You’re right! Tasha Tudor was my first thought when I saw this. Englebreit, too, though her colors were more intense than Tudor’s.
@@badwolf54 yes! I have an 80+ yr old friend who could be Tasha reincarnated. Dresses like her. Lives in a fairyland house crammed with collections, quilts, plants and critters everywhere. Is currently making plans for what she’s going to do when she’s 100. Lunch at her house is always full of surprises.
@@homebodyheaven6114 Oh lovely
Apparently I've been doing Cottage Core all my life. A little shabby chic, a little grandmas closet and some French country. Love it!
English country has always been my favorite and really it is timeless because it is layered with comfort, family pieces and patina. It doesn’t look like you did a big shop at hobby lobby but enjoy the beauty of “real” things not just the latest cheap trend. So much more sustainable and affordable.
That's what I call my shabby chic cottage style. I've been decorating like this for years.
There is so much French going on in here! I am Louisiana Cajun French, and lots of people here have this style! It was a thing before it got a name on Pinterest, and I am still here for it 💖
I Love It! As a mexican married with a dutch and living in The Netherlands, I have always loved bright beautiful colors, flowers, hand made crafts and antiques! Our home has grown with us for the past 17 years, we love it because it is a beautiful and inspiring eclectic, boho and global home, incorporating our two cultures and all the treasures we have from the different countries we have visited! I think Happiness is Homemade and we live surrounded by all the things, colors, treasures that make us feel alive, happy and motivated! Greetings from Limburg, The Netherlands!
We only have one life to live and our home should reflect us. I live in a house that was built in 1911. It looks like a farmhouse, we have lived here twenty years. On the back end the previous owner had a porch converted to a kitchen with the dining on the other end with windows all around. I had it painted green (I call it granny green). We are surrounded by a wooden area in the back, it brings the outside indoors. I have never regretted the color I chose.
I love the cottage core look more than any other style. Also Dark academia too. It has been my look way before I ever heard of it, so glad its a thing now.
It makes my heart happy! Finally a break from farmhouse (especially farmhouse done in new builds, ugh.) Loving the mix of colour and florals and patterns...oh my!
I so agree about farmhouse in new builds! Awful!
MommaJen65 yes!! Especially when they have tons of signs about fresh milk or farm eggs! I’ve always wondered why someone would put those in their houses if they don’t even have one single chicken, or even a yard in a subdivision that would allow chickens lol
thank you for this-and for all the lovely comments who have brought back all the memories of things like Laura Ashley, florals, woodsy english cottage!! Am building a house and trying to explain my "style" to the young decorator who works with builder who doesn't really get it--shes more focused on the farmhouse style, pale neutrals, more minimalist etc-pretty but not me! Definitely not a minimalist!! I will show her this, along with all my pinterest boards-and really do it more myself than with her guidance since I know what i like! i'm 66 so a child of the romantic, boho, hippie 60's and returning to my real roots! Thank you again so much for a clear explanation and showing how is little different than the current popular farmhouse.
I'm not into clutter but I do love the vintage trend toward nature - woods, natural cloth, florals, glass, rattan. It reminds me of an era of respect for craftsmanship and longevity. Better for the environment as well.
I really like bringing the femininity back. Not as drastic as Victorian, but more subtle. So pretty!
In this past year of uncertainty and isolation, the cottage looks surrounds us with comfort and coziness. The look is a big "embrace" when we need it most. It can be as cluttered as one is comfortable with, or as simple as one would like, and the simplicity of the style is so beckoning at every turn. And, so affordable too, as many things can be thrifted or repurposed for decor. Loving it! More please.
Cottage style is a lifestyle and design choice that will never go away. It has been lived with for years now by those of us who enjoy living with it. Regardless of any other trends.
Oh I have had this in my heart all my life! So glad to have some inspiration. I have decorated this style regardless of what is popular.
I think we are living in such trying times and people want to return to a time of warmth and security. This is much more then a style to me. This is bringing your security and warmth back. It’s bringing a simplicity back that people so desperately need.
I’m a vendor at antique malls so this look has booted our sales significantly.
So glad people are starting to re-home wonderful pieces and bring them back to life.
@@MeganKenny18 I love the "bringing them back to life" part.
I am so happy that the cottage style, “cottage core”, is becoming fashionable again. I live in a small cottage and have always decorated in cottage style. I feel we should decorate to fit the style of home that we live in and not necessarily follow the crowd. Cottage style is beautiful, colorful, warm, cozy and not too cluttered. I like the idea of surrounding ourselves with the things that we love. We need comfort at this time. What could be more beautiful than books, linens, and plants. I Love your vlog. Have a nice weekend 🙏💕🌷
My kitchen transitioned to cottage core this spring with lots of China and flowers and all things romantic. I’ve always loved the look.
I live in a 1950's cottage, so I am so happy this trend is becoming popular. I love pastels and anything garden/ nature related.
I've gone French country the last few years, I've never shied away from colour or wallpaper, I love both. Went so far as to install real French doors in my dining room. :) great video
Absolutely love it! This is my true aesthetic, always has been. It’s kind of nice that we will start seeing more pieces like this. Love the artful femininity of Cottage Core.
Well said💗
I've never had word for the style I've been going for and now I do! I'm not really farmhouse but I definitely love the romantic vintage lived in feel.
I never knew what my aesthetic was but I knew when a room embodied it ... Cottagecore!
Thank God for the floral patterns coming back batter than a room full of depression
“Rooms full of depression” love it!
missjenny1953 Thankyou miss Jenny just a couple of years ago do you think of the animal heads on the wall I mean the pink and lime green ones in flox or statues of bodies with no arms looks like Ed Ginn is lodge in the house animal are meant to run wild and free and black or dark coloured walls at one stage I was expecting when a black coffin hanging on you wall was in good taste but I firmly believe the old grannies wren the best the flowers they grew lasted the flower cups and saucers and mix matching them and everything thing bright having the curtains opened as long as possible to let in the last of the day light
Thank you again Patrick
Wonder what’s going to happen to the grey trend....
Omgoodness, I love this style. I'm in my 60's and it reminds me of some older relatives homes I've visited as a young girl. Thank you for sharing.
The built in bookshelves and “friendliness” of things displayed on them makes this just so homey and inviting. ❤️
I’ve always had this look. I raised two children who were born 22 months apart and never had to “baby proof” my home!☺️ Since they were raised this way I could always go into any antique shop with them and never a broken item!
I started this mixed with a little bit of French country 2 years ago. It’s beautiful. I didn’t call it cottage core I just called it me!
Love this Cottagecore design. I took an old shop and made it into “Baker Creek Cottage. ” A “new” space that is is home to several antiques, old books, pictures, and a collection of childhood memories. When I enter through the front door, it takes me back to simpler times and provides a warmth that wraps me in happiness. The back door leads to a covered area where I can sit and listen to birds while I work on projects or just enjoy the sound of the little brook babbling below. Thank you for providing more ideas for Baker Creek Cottage !
This actually reminds me of an old school bohemian simplistic cozy vibe and I am here for it. I am all about the colors, wood elements, and (personally) adding in jewel tones for even more pop.
I have just moved into a retirement home and was going to keep surfaces free of stuff. Now I find myself bringing my stuff out again. It’s not home without my precious things I have collected over the years. I hope to make my modern home country cool, I am heading that way
I hope you're able to make it feel like home! :)
This is me! I’m 54, and this is the first major trend I embrace wholeheartedly. 😂 I’ve been cottage core my whole life! we just moved into a new house, so I can’t wait to develop it bit by bit.
Same, a lifetime of cottage core too ;>D
Thats the best way to do it, " bit by bit".
This is the look that I,m going for still with a touch of farmhouse, if that makes sense. I,m still figuring my interior home design style out as I continue to move foward through life,s journey. :-)
I was apart of the Pinterest group this week and definitely want to join the behind the scenes group!! I was an 80’s girl, and loved everything Laura Ashley!! To me this says Laura Ashley. It’s back baby!!
I hope you do! It will be fun to have you!

This has always been me. Happy to see a move away from gray/cold/minimalism. I am thinking that now I don’t have to reupholster my antique sofa with the chintz linen floral! Homes are homey once more. Yaaayyy!
I love how cozy this look is.
As you describe it, I didn't realize just how cottage core I already am! This was a real eye opener.❤️❤️
I'm 74 yrs old and this is my style. I'm glad it's back. I totally embrace everything about it except the puffy sleeves. They look awful on me, but yeah I'm all about "messy" comfortable living.
So funny! I look absolutely ridiculous in puff sleeves, too. But I totally embrace linen everything and small print florals. 😊
It is all a way to feel welcoming and like a home should feel.
This is nostalgia @ it’s finest!
Hi Sarah...I am so happy to see this design aesthetic making its way back....I live on a farm so obvious love that look but not the new farmhouse look ...I like the real farmhouse look....not fussy. All my guests feel comfortable flipping off their shoes and lounging on the sofa or on the back porch....they say I love how homey your home is.....to me best compliment ever❣️ I have always decorated with things that are meaningful to me. I started added boho about 5 years ago bc we have horses hence a lot of horse decor and boho blends well.....I like the layered in over time look. I don’t like clutter but I tend to be a maximalist in my decor......all,I’m hearing about is green....maybe it’s one way to get the outdoors feel inside. Thank you for sharing 😊kim
I know! I’ve always found it humorous with the farmhouse look bares very little resemblance to the reality of what an authentic farmhouse looks like. I grew up on a farm in a farming community and people don’t live in stark white living spaces. They’re cozy and collected. Scuffed paint. Welcoming.
Who knew that I was 'stylish', long before it was "STYLISH". lol THIS is definitely MY look, very eclectic, comfortable and extremely warm and welcoming. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!
Something old/new that keeps coming back. I have always loved this look. Thank you for bringing this look to the fore front.
As many others have said, this is my eternal style. I didn't care when they called me a grandma in middle school and high school because I love sewing, knitting, gardening, florals, cardigans, and all things natural and cottage vintage. I didn't care when they called me a grandma back then and I don't really care that it's a trend now.
I've loved and been living cottagecore for years!!! Glad it's becoming more widely seen.
I’ve been cottage core since the 70s...(colonial Williamsburg meets Tasha Tudor meets thrift store)...feeling validated💕🌸💕
This the atmosphere I’ve had for ever. It’s been called grandma even when I was in my forties. I was just ahead of my time.
This has been my favorite decor since the early 90s. I have not changed much about my home since then, if you wait long enough it will come back in style. I’m so excited it has! All of a sudden my old house is on point. LOL Thanks for sharing this. Even some in the 80s, my style is not as full, but much more full then minimalist decor. Also I bring a lot more of the outside in. It’s like you said very feminine.
This is the look I love and I’ve had it in a house that I left my heart . But I enjoyed it so much. Life changes and so does our circumstances. So now I live in an over a garage apartment.
Well great, I always knew I was well ahead of the curve! 💚😀
This has always been my "look" creative, curated cottage.
I love color- but toned down. Lot's of mix & match & tons of vintage.
This makes perfect sense to my aesthetic indoors & out.💙♥️💚
I am a very neat and organized person but I absolutely love the cozy, natural, cluttered, Burrow-style of cottagecore! The attire as well is definitly up my alley and would love to incorporate more of this style!
If we’re adding more stuff and it’s romantic and imperfect, count me in🙋🏾♀️
Color, coziness and comforting...YES! Please.
I am moving out of my 2 year old, new construction, open concept home because I need this. I need rooms, I need walls, I need separation and I need cozy, warm, beautiful spaces. I bought an old fashioned home that has actual ROOMS and tons of wood finishes not even realizing this is a thing now. I was just craving it in my life.
I have had this style for many, many years and now I have just cut out some of the clutter. Now I just have my favorite pieces and I will never stray from this style. It’s what’s in my heart and when I let myself be influenced by what’s currently popular I always regret it. I especially love English cottage style. 🥰
Always wanted my kitchen to be a French greenhouse if that makes sense lol. Terracotta storage- long window boxes but we put sheet pans in it as example. Plants, glass etc
I’ve always had this look! My mother too! I’ve never been able to get away from it, and everyone has always loved it, and always want me to decorate their homes.
I have those Waverly Vintage Rose curtains packed away somewhere. Maybe it's time to bring them back? I am moving away from minimalism lately and adding plants to bring in more "life."
Ha! I was thinking about grabbing a kerchief for my head when I went out to do some gardening today! I wore them all the time as a teenager in the 70s. Love that homey, relaxed look. Those pictures are just like the ones I've been seeing in my English Home magazines these past few years. Very sweet. I have a little of it going on here and there.
Grew up in a home like this: but my mom sourced her “style” from rummage sales, second hand shops and throw away bins. Lol
That’s the way to do it if you can.
I knew if I left my Waverly cabbage rose valances in my kitchen long enough they would be stylish again! My house is a blend of cottage/oriental.
This is my style!! I have struggled with trying to tone it down over the years, I’m so happy to see it come around again. Quilts and books and family photos etc surrounding us all with love!! It has a lived in/homely feel 🥰
Cottage/traditional has been my style for decades! I knew it would come back. In the mean time i’ve enjoyed it all these years🏡♥️
I’ve actually been decorating like this for the past year! Currently building floor to ceiling bookshelves. I’m so excited for this trend!
I've been waiting for farmhouse minimalism to go for so long! Sooo excited!!!!
I just realized that I am cutting edge for once. My house is already cluttered with unique stuff like this. I might be able to finally do some wallpaper, which I have always loved. I love the style. It’s me!
I ❤️ the cottage core dressing style! It makes it easier to incorporate older pieces in your home.
I love cottage core and didn’t really know i was doing it till it was deemed a ‘trend’. Some out of necessity for thrifted furniture, some stemming and evolving from my love of shabby chic. I’d say im more french cottage than full cottage core, no wallpaper bit add chandeliers!
Love it and have been decorating with it for years. Now it has a name.
So glad to see this look again, I’m bringing out my shabby chic look again mixed around the house
Love Cottage Core, my house has evolved from French Country and English with a love of old things layered. Love to see more videos of this style.
I refer to my style as rustic boho chic and this is it!
I have so many wonderful things handed down from my grandmothers. I've always decorated with the tablecloths, dishes, candlesticks, art, etc. It makes me smile.
This also seems like cozy minimalist/hygge had a baby! I LOVE it!! I’ve always been a woodlands/nature/botanical lover so .....
Phew! Finally a design style that I’ve already been doing FOR EVER. Yay!! Thank you!!
Love it and happy it’s coming back. I always have my room specifically with that kind of “warm huggable feel” I love so much.
I love my books, baskets, pictures, teddy bears, candlesticks, flowers, etc. My house is full of these and more. I wouldn't be happy in a white or gray, sterile looking house! Cottagecore sounds great to me! Thanks for alerting me! 😊
I have always loved this look. It is truly kid friendly.
I like it very much. Looks like you are living there not just staging objects. Homes I've been in look like this and the people are so interesting. My grandmother's friends quite often had homes like this. Love it!⚘
Hmmm this is so interesting to me! I’m definitely half there. Wildflowers all the way. Messy stuff everywhere, not so much.
I love how it takes me back to grandma's house although it is to cluttered for me. The clothing looks like what I wore in the 70's, love it.
I am here for it! I want to do a blend of Farmhouse and CottageCore
I've always loved this style, shabby & chippy, vintage, cosy, romantic and natural. Love everything about it.
