I am doing a bedroom in dark academia and I’m starting college for regenerative farming and agriculture, mycology, and environmental studies and then plan on getting my masters in environmental studies ❤. And, I’m 47, so just wanting to surround myself with dark academia and some dark cottage core because I feel they go together and for my kitchen green witch self too and the science side of me. Thank you for this inspiring and different ways to think about how to put together with what one would want the feel/look to be. I am going to see if you do dark academia look videos ❤❤❤❤
I love this! Dark academia and dark cottagecore sound like perfect fits for you, just from what you've described here. 😊 And I did recently do a dark academia video! Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/_UMsh31GejU/v-deo.html
For the kitty litter problem, try tofu kitty litter (made from leftovers from tofu making process). It’s been a game changer for me. It clumps, smell is reduced, it’s flushable, and it doesn’t track as much as typical litter. It’s also healthier for cats. 😊
Okaaaaay… I’ve been a subscriber for a while now and it’s time I let you know that I get a little gleeful internal squeal when you post a new vid. I appreciate your whole vibe so much. And I especially appreciate that you’re in my beloved Seattle! The moody weather here definitely influences how we home in the pnw, and I feel like I see some of that influence in your personal design preferences. I would’ve loved to hunker down into some dark cottage core coziness during last nights ⛈. Can’t wait to watch. Thanks again Steffi!
Aw thank you so much!! You're so right, I feel like growing up here has a lot to do with my moody preferences. 🥰 Btw that thunder and lightning storm the other night was incredible. I wish we would get those more often!
Hi Steffi thank you for helping me to identify my inner interior mind to accomplish the aesthetic design that I am looking for and your apartment and your design is beautiful🌌🌙🌃❤❤❤❤
Just watched you for the first time. You’ve inspired me to use dark cottagecore in redecorating my bedroom with dark walls and the wood furniture I already have. Plus my stash of vintage thrifting will fit right in! It’s like I had it planned all along ❤❤❤
Yaaay! I love that feeling of clarity, where you're like, "oh THIS is my style!" And then shopping/decorating becomes even more fun because you have a clearer vision in your head. Good luck with redecorating your bedroom!
I think my living room is medium cottage core/cozy minimalist. Walls painted Rose Dust (LRV 57), floral prints in antique frames, floral throw pillows, and rug, silk flower arrangements (lots of pink/rose/cream/soft green), dark dusty green sofa.
I love moody walls and dark florals. My home fits this aesthetic, as i paint botanicals/moody abstracts and very nature inspired art most of my accent colours are forest green, black and grey.... With little 1920's lighting and brass candle holders mixed in. Definitely a hedgewitch vibe with a sprinkle of forest fae. Im 45 and I never knew this was a thing! But now seeing so many younger people embrace this . 🌿🍂🌙🪶🍄
This was once known as 'strega' or 'dark mori' aesthetic. Cottagecore is really just the westernization of mori fashion when you think about it. I think I picked up this style around 2011? it's strange to see it come full circle without people having a full understanding of the origins, but I'm happy to see it spread around.
You absolutely nailed it! Thank you for articulating for me what I have been trying to define for years. So many versions of Cottagecore but none that really completed the vision I had. Loved all your choices for decor. Just the inspiration I needed to keep working on my own witchy vibe a la 'Cottagecore finally defined for me'!! Cheers!
Hi Steffi! I prefer a lighter, boho interior, but I found the rooms (and most of the pieces) in this Dark Cottagecore video to be absolutely beautiful!❤
I stumbled upon you, and had no idea that there were other people that like the decor I love. I'm just a little nature loving witch, that needs some inspiration when decorating my tiny witchy camper space. Ty!
Of course, the 70s - Love that era! And definitely florals on a black background - I have a love seat and cushion covers elsewhere in the apartment in that pattern. I also see a lot of mushroom-themed decor everywhere these days from Dollar Stores to more expensive brands. Granted, some of it is too bright and would not fit the dark theme - but some would suit - but I am suprised how many mushrooms are out there. 🙂
Btw the dome thing is called a Cloche. Ive loved them since beauty and the beast, but only since lime 2017 did i find out their name so i could look for them and but them.
I love that Portlandia sketch! Great recommendations, too! Also, I'd recommend curtains if you aren't 100% on wallpaper (I have weird asymmetrical walls that are super tall in my apartment). I found some velvet black/copper/dark green rose floral curtains on Amazon, and it is probably my favorite dark cottagecore/forest witchy piece in my living room. The window is pretty large, so when the sun is out, it casts this really pretty warm light, and since it is dark, it keeps the super bright light out, too. :3
I love the dark and the light, enjoy integrating them tastefully, but for those of us who are not attracted to Satan, death, witchcraft, or anything sinister, the dark aesthetic can simply serve as the night, moonlit, romantic, deep, and mysterious without the evil. And it’s beautiful, but most pleasant when there is also some relief from it in different rooms. IMO.
Death isn't evil or sinister, it's a natural part and fact of life. It's the only promise we're given when we're born. Neither is witchcraft, but since you mentioned satan I guess you're some sort of Christian so then viewing witchcraft as evil goes with the territory I guess. Though it's good to remember, that it's not the craft or the tool, it's the intention behind the one who wields it. Kind of like priests are the only ones allowed to practice magick when it comes to abrahamic religions. (sermons, baptisms, chanting, using the cross or making the cross sign are protection spells, blessing water...all of that is witchcraft, just named differently with a "christian aesthetic")
Gorgeous! Dark green and greenish blue and black\gray are some of my fave colors. I also like southwestern decor and Halloween. Steampunk and medieval stuff...and mushrooms! So cool! Thank you🙏🏼 I just got a hardcover with old style stickers like yours here. It is FABULOUS. Idk if I will ever take them out but I sure love looking at it🍄🟫🌻🏜️🌚🐾🫶🏼. PS I subbed
❤love your eye for the special mood of dark colors, I live in a log cabin and love tribal, dark, cottage cabin, and western mixed but would love to add more florals to the mix.
This may be a very niche style, but could you cover mid-century modern and boho as a combined style? Maybe in the same way you highlighted dark and light academia, since there are people who gravitate towards lighter and darker boho styles? But also featuring a mid-century modern flair?
Would be cool to see combo or mixing aesthetic videos! (Like Dark Cottagecore + Dark Academia) It would be neat to see examples of which aesthetics pair well together.
I don't think there's a name for my personal style. It's sort of "Dark Arts & Crafts" - Sort of William Morris meets Edgar Allen Poe. More minimal and refined than cottage-y, but similar... and then make it dark. Sort of witchy, but more masculine. Is that a thing?
I loved rhis Dark Cottagecore ideas. I also love Wabi Sabi. (Catcore is a great idea, no kidding, 'cause you can talk about materials, non-toxic olanta, etc. to make a cat safe environment)
Just came across your channel! Subscribed!!! You nailed me when you said apartment, live alone, and then saw your cats!! Hehehehe I live alone in a two bed/2 bath apartment with my 5 fur babies!! And I am loving the dark cottage core stuff!!! 😍😍😍
This is so my niece. She likes cottage core but darker; she wanted to keep her dead pet frog as decor. She lovingly called him her zombie frog when we buried him. 😅
I think this is my favourite of the ones you've done. I'm very much a dark cottage core person, with some whimsigoth, and witchy and dark academia elements. Fantastic!
Hi, just discovered this channel, loving it and the majestic co-Host. I would love to see Steffie’s samples and hear her suggestions on Japandy and Parisian Chic styles 👏🙏🏼
This reminds me of the 1970s trend minus the black lights. The home magazines published out of the UK provide a great resource for this style. Also, take a look at, McIntosh, JOB, and the sinewy expressions and design of voysey . A Loetz or Art Nouveau artists lend itself to this style. Morris and Co., Liberty of London and Stickley still provide original patterns for the home as they’re still selling these timeless designs.
You look similar to a youtuber i know called jessii vee who also love spooky things like you but anyways love this video on explaing how to do this pleasing look for a room for those who like the same cottagecore mix with some dark acadamia type vibe gotta say it looks great it gives off magical fairy halloween feel which i do love i mean its good to always have that holiday spirit all day everyday even if its not the hoilday i still find this a cute cozy escape with your fantasy such a bright idea to just me in your own world to celebrate your own expression on what makes you feel right in your home.
I think theres a difference between "putting a mushroom on it", and "making it a vibe", and people who are actually Earth Based in their spirituality, use the mushrooms and live peacefully on the Earth. You can fake it because you think its 'aesthetic', or you can genuinely like it because its part of your soul. Cottagecore or Dark Cottagecore or Dark Academia, is a name thats been invented recently for the way some of us have been living for 40 plus years.
This is giving "I liked the band before it was popular and if you can't name every song off of every album you're a fake fan". Maybe just let people like things. 😂✌
Everything was stunning. The only thing I totally don't think snobby is to hide or embellish tech or TV. So simple to even frame a mounted TV or repurpose an old cabinet. It's classy not snobby. I actually cover mine in a beautiful fabric. So easy and keeps dust off lol.
Oh I definitely don't think the actual act of hiding a TV is snobby! It's people saying that you have to do it in order for a living room to look good. That often comes across as snobby. But no, hiding a TV in interesting ways is awesome - just not a requirement. 😊
I would love to get your take on a hippie styled decor, I tend to go boho and add a lot of color. But I just discovered your channel, and am loving it. So I'm really curious on what you would do when it comes to hippie? Not just peace signs, I'm not into all that. But I guess my style is hippie/boho/rustic/ dark cottage core, lol. Idk 🤷♀️ help me out here.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been struggling for months, years even on what to do with my city apartment. Omgsh, I can't wait to get started ❤🍄🦋🌻🐛🐞🪲
That would be fun! It's quite different from my personal style, which would make it interesting to explore. Plus, the movie angle would be interesting too!
Huh, this looks a lot like how I style my home lol. I'd say my style is dark cottagecore academic witch. I've got several mushrooms I've made out of ceramics all over the place along with dark botanicals mixed in with my real plants. Plenty of books and a few witchy elements make up the rest. These style videos you've uploaded here are really fun 😁
Wonderful video thank you so much for all of your dedication! I was hoping to visit the links for the items that you featured. Your website does not allow me to click on more than three links. Is there another way to see the items?
I'd love to see you tackle a warm industrial style in a normal urban apartment that doesn't have industrial vibes like exposed beams, mechanical, or brick walls and where the ceilings are a normal 8-9 feet tall.
Florals on dark backgrounds are my guilty pleasure! Throw in some antiques, old books, and witchy-feeling accessories and you have my dream home.🖤
Same here! 🥰
Dark equals cozy. I have always been drawn to the dark colors of a hunting lodge, and I also like the witchy accents.
I've done this look for awhile. Get a fireplace-it adds so much coziness to the decor! And Victorian touches in the bedroom.
Me too. I didn't know it had a name.
I am doing a bedroom in dark academia and I’m starting college for regenerative farming and agriculture, mycology, and environmental studies and then plan on getting my masters in environmental studies ❤. Weeeee wanna see! Throw us some content 😢
That will keep you inspired
I didn’t know dark cottage core was a thing but I love it.
Love your ideas! Dark Cottagecore is my style and mood. My home is Grimm Fairytale Cottagecore...dark, witchy, nature, bohemian, gothic.
Super cool aesthetic. You could easily fall down the rabbit hole of fun moody second-hand stuff.
For the kitty litter problem, try tofu kitty litter (made from leftovers from tofu making process). It’s been a game changer for me. It clumps, smell is reduced, it’s flushable, and it doesn’t track as much as typical litter. It’s also healthier for cats. 😊
Love this esoteric esthetic. It feels like the love child of granny chic, whimsical fairy witch forest and academic steam punk.
You nailed it!
I love Dark Cottagecore, I call it Cottagegore :)
I Like it.
Very metal. I love.
Lol love this! Sounds so hardcore. ...hardcore cottagegore. 🙃
Or Cotta-Goth?
Cottagecore + Steampunk would be fabulous if combined well.

I love nature, cozy, granny vibes and whimsy in an eclectic magical moodiness. That all sounds perfect to me.
Hi Steffi thank you for helping me to identify my inner interior mind to accomplish the aesthetic design that I am looking for and your apartment and your design is beautiful🌌🌙🌃❤❤❤❤
DEFINITELY cat core ! For those of us with small spaces and kitty cats!

This is a welcome bit of information! I was TODAY years old when I learned about dark cottage core. 😁

It seems as if so many of us are obsessed with mushrooms decor and I love it.

I’ve been decorating like this before it had a name.
Btw the dome thing is called a Cloche. Ive loved them since beauty and the beast, but only since lime 2017 did i find out their name so i could look for them and but them.
