When she met her husband he asked her "Are you happy?" and she realized she wasn't and he was the only person who noticed she wasn't. This was the inspiration for this song. And Amy is not dead, she is living in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband and son.
Also she performed this song with Japanese band Wagakki. It is a mixture of traditional Japanese instruments and modern instruments. The live performance is exceptional.
@brendaclark8344 Yes, it is!
The original is best of course this was very imaginative and a cool sound.
This song is an amazing break out for the band but she wrote this song after meeting up with her now husband while with an ex. He asked her if she was happy and she was so shocked that he really saw her. She and her husband are still together which I think is amazing. The band didn’t want to use a rapper, it was written without that but the record label forced it and that was the compromise. The band walked away because the record label was trying to force a male lead vs Amy. Also Ben Moody was extremely abusive to Amy and tried to force her from the band by being mean and abusive to her, he ended up leaving the band abruptly in the European tour.she actually wrote the song the last song I’m easing on you about him in a bathroom from her anger and pain. Her now husband was a mutual friend. He wasn’t her therapist at the time.
The guy singing in the apartment is actually a guest vocalist, Paul McCoy, of the band 12 Stones. Apparently Amy didn't want to do this, the record company insisted, and I think they were 100% right because this song is phenomenal.
They insisted on having a male vocalist because they didn't believe a female vocalist could successfully lead a rock band. Wrong! Ha!
@@TheAlmawardhey were forced by the record company either you have this rapper in this song or we cancel the album cuz the daredevil producers wanted a nu metal sound
@@Andrew46_2 I know. I'm saying the record company was wrong to thonk Amy Lee couldn't successfully lead a rock band.
#TRUTH. The record company had no faith that a female led rock band would go anywhere. So they brought in Paul McCoy, from the band 12 Stones, who was on the same record label. Looks like the record execs were asshats.
She said that when she was younger she was in a very toxic relationship (with Ben) she was faking being great and doing amazing in her relationship but she wasn't, she thought she was faking it good but then one day she was set to meet a friend (David Hodges) at a coffee place and his friend invited another friend, this other friend is Josh Hartzler, while her ex and David were parking, Amy and Josh sat together and while she was fake smiling he stared at her and asked her..."Are you happy?" so she felt as she was being spotlighted by him, as if he could see her through the facade she used to put in her abusive relationship, she felt as if he could see her into her soul like open doors... this whole situation inspired the lyrics, so it's like he woke her up by noticing her in such a way that caught her off guard even when they were first meeting, years later they dated and couple years later they got married.
Amy Lee is a top 5 female vocalist of all time. Her body of work is amazing. She is still going strong.
Agreed
'My Immortal' is beautiful and heart breaking, and also 'Call Me When You're Sober' is amazing, both show off Amy Lee's vocals which are just stunning
"Going Under" is also a great track by them. Their sound is iconic and recognizable for sure
“Call me when your sober” is fantastic. And my favorite by Evanescence
When I heard this song when it first came out her angelic voice opened my eye so wide with the band kicking it big time they had me hooked ❤️ just outstanding 👊🏻
Going Under was another hit off this album
Evanescence
Going Under
My Immortal
Good ballads and good hard rock. "Call Me When You're Sober" video is a must see. So is "Going Under" and "Sweet Sacrifice". This band sold a bunch of records, but I still think that they are underrated.
I would recommend keeping the order in this way of meeting them... now listen to Going Under, this was the original song that Amy wanted it to be the first single it's the one of the last songs that it got written for the record and she has always liked it a lot since she is dedicating the lyrics to that same abusive relationship but with a hopeful lyric in the bridge of wanting to break through all of that shit.... then the next single you shoudl check out is My Immortal which is a powerful hardrock ballad.
I had a friend dedicate this to me, because she had been living in such an abusive marriage for so many years, she became dead inside in order to survive and had forgotten there was something else beyond that. Somehow I changed that in her as she has told me I brought her back to life and taught her how to feel again. Seven years later, I've never had anyone cherish me like she continues to do. I'm not patting myself on the back either, as I don't really see anything I did that was so special. I was just nice to one of the kindest women I've ever met. That's what this song reminds me of every time I hear it.
The lead male vocalist is the frontman for 12 Stones. They are a metal-rap group.
I heard it in one of the old Spider-Man movies. Hit up "Call Me When You're Sober", "Good Enough", "Lacrymosa", Going Under". The whole "The Open Door" album is fire 🔥
I've watched almost every Evanescence reaction on here, and this was probably my favorite. Please go by video release, which would make "My Immortal" your next one, followed by "Going Under" and "Everybody's Fool"
Definitely have to do "My Immortal." Then jump to closer to the present and listen to "Use My Voice" from a few years ago. It'll be a good jump off into Halestorm, since Lizzy is on that one with her. 🙂
They are incredible. I love Evanescence. Amy Lee is a goddess!!! Some other songs form this album: "Going Under" "Everybody's Fool" 🔥
The male vocalist in "Bring me to life" is a guest singer from a band called 12 Stones. The original song wasn't in this way but guess the label imposed it on them. But this particular son was kick ass. ✌🏼
The male singer ( Paul McCoy) is from the band Twelve Stones that was actually formed in Mandeville, Louisiana. I mentioned that because I’m sure that is a first for you too!
One of my favorite songs EVER!!!❤❤❤
Yeah, she's one of the top 15 voices of all-time!!
My Immortal is definitely a must. Also look at the meaning before listening. It'll rip your heart out.
Forget trying to compare Amy Lee to anyone. She defines the word "incomperable". And, dude, you are gonna FLIP if and when you do "My Immortal", "Lithium", and Seether's "Broken", which features Amy
This song still gives me chills.
Evanescence is Amazing and Amy is one of a kind. This song is brilliant but your right the record label shouldn't of inserted its self. Amy fought them and I'm glad she did! They wanted a full time male co-vocalist suggesting that there wouldn't be a big enough audience/fan base if it was just her singing. God where they wrong! They compromised and got Paul McCoy to do it but she did write the rap so its still her song and luckily it didnt ruin what the band actually sounds like. People love this song but dont miss the lack of rapping in her other works of art so it all worked out. You should check out Going Under, Call Me When You're Sober, My Immortal, Lithium, Everybody's Fool, Good Enough and if you get a chance Freak On A Leash with Korn ❤
I love Evanescence. They're one of my favorite bands period. Bring Me To Life was the first song I heard by them but it's actually not one of my favorites. There's a demo version of this song that has more electronic elements and a guitar solo in place of the "All of this time I can't believe I couldn't see" part. I highly prefer that version. The male vocalist on this track is a guest vocalist, Paul McCoy from 12 Stones. Ben Moody is seen in the video playing guitar but he's not the guy interjecting vocals into the song. Ben Moody left the band shortly after Fallen came out, as did David Hodges. They've both written music for a lot of other big name artists since. As for more Evanescence, My Immortal is another good place to go. For some slightly less popular tracks, try Your Star or Whisper.
I really like what you said about asking people how they are and when they say ok. You're kind hearted and i really appreciate you looking so deep into these songs that you're experiencing.
This is someone you need to hear live! She’s just as good, if not better live. I went to see them years ago and let me just say, she blew me away!
“Is there a metal & hip hop genre?”
It’s called NuMetal. Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory, Meteora) are one of the most well known. Mike Shinoda raps, sings, and writes many of the songs. He’s solo now. Chester Bennington (RIP) sung. It was around the same time period. 13:55
Saw them last October, and Amy is still incredible.
Amy is one of the most extraordinary voices in music for the last 50 years. She's outstanding!
Amy Lee is an angel who fell to Earth. No question, no argument.
Excellent reaction, thank you for really digging in to the song. Wise words and you are correct, many people don't ask how you are because they actually want to know, when I can tell it is just a greeting, my response is 'I'm fine'. There is 1 lady at church that will cross her arms and block my path until I give her the real response (she really does care).
there is a GREAT live version of this song out there...extended piano bit at the front...her voice is awesome
Fallen sold more than 22 million records worldwide
I've been listening to rock since the early 70s. To this date, my favorite collaboration ever is:
Group: Seether / featuring Amy Lee
Song: Broken
Amy Lee has the most beautiful voice you could hand her the phone book and have her sing the Ws and it be the most beautiful thing in the world
There debut album is amazing hard to define what genre they are cause they all over the place
She was only 19 when she wrote this. Amy Lee does a song with Seether. I think you would like it.
I know you did freak on a leash once but got to check out the unplugged version with Amy lee
I second this!!! Love that version of freak on a leash.
When Amy Lee wrote this, she was in an abusive relationship. She met a man who realized (the only person to do so) that she wasn't happy with her life. She got out of the abusive relationship and started dating the man she'd met, and that was the inspiration for the song. They later married. ;)
Did you watch the part where he read that exact thing out loud lol
The video is excellent! Amy’s voice is hauntingly beautiful and the band is🔥
I like the videos
My Immortal and
Call Me When You’re Sober. Are beautiful visual and audio experiences.
Great band from my area-Little Rock, Arkansas!
Great analysis and research. Loved how you provided etymology and meaning behind the song. This was a thorough review. I agree with you that the finished product was outstanding, how ever, I agree with you concerning the label forcing a musical style. You are a very , very good reviewer.
OG Evanescence suggestions or including her new stuff? Bc of her og stuff, My Immortal let's Amy Lee's classic singing training shine while Call me when your sober leans into the rock. The equivalents in her new material would be Speak to me and Use my voice.
I remember I first heard this in the Daredevil movie.
"Good Enough!" THAT was the song that really got me started. It was SO GOOD!!! Listen to that one too, please!!!
I want you to listen to Pentatonix...Hallelujah. It will give you chills, and just to make it really mind-blowing, they sing accapella...no instruments.
Listen to the live version of this song, the piano intro is perfection and it gets even better from there. Also, call me when you’re sober, Speak to Me, Lithium, and Going Under.
Ben is the blond guitarist. He isn't the one rapping. And yes Amy has the voice of an angel. You can also look up My Immortal, Call Me When Youre Sober, Going Under, Everybodys Fool, Lithium, and she also did a song with Seether called Broken.
She also wrote Better Without You about Wind Up Records on the album the Bitter Truth
That whole album is flipping amazing!!!
Yeaahh the song of DareDevil!! When Ben Affleck was Matt Murdock
Ok let’s see, for real anything live lol.Lithium, Going Under, Everybody’s Fool, Call Me When Your Sober, My Immortal (live) The Change, Lacramosa
The rap metal fusion is known as Nu-Metal
Ah, the genius of the amazing Amy Lee. That's one gigantic rabbit hole buddy...! Good luck exploring their catalogue over the past 20 years or so. Amy wrote this particular song at only 19 years old, and it became the band's 'breakout' song, introducing them to all of us. Gorgeous, and stunningly talented Amy Lee. What's not to like?
Great analysis and reaction, thank you. I really like how you delve into the lyrics and the meaning behind them. You can't really understand the intent and feeling of a song if you don't know what's behind it so kudos to you for doing that so you understand what the song is about.
For your 2nd and 3rd then, go straight to 'My Immortal' and 'Going Under'.
Beast mode bruh
Fire!
"Metal Hip Hop Genre"? you say? Linkin Park is calling. ;)
Watch Rockmob doing this! I wouldn't say it's better but It's amazing.
Dude you’re a great deep thinker and I love your research. Learn to edit, because if you cut out the big pauses you have a great channel on your hands!
During that era, almost every commercial rock band embraced nu-metal. The fusion of rap/hip-hop with rock had a lasting impact and continues to attract new fans even today. Limp Bizkit, POD, Korn, System Of a Down, and many others incorporated nu-metal into their musical repertoires to varying degrees. They were remarkable, although nu-metal faced opposition from anti-commercial fans, as well as some Metal/Rock singers and bands. Nevertheless, it didn't prevent it from pushing boundaries. Limp Bizkit, which pioneered nu-metal from its very core, garnered significant animosity.
Dude! Listen to Call Me When You’re Sober
😎💭
Since you like band names so much.. I'll share my pretend band name with you 😆 Pretend bc I'll never actually have one. But a girl can dream 😂 But I would call it Gin-Lola❤ After my dogs Ginger and Lola 😍
metal hip/hop genre ; a few are limp biscuit ,rage against the machine ,linkin park ,korn ,
All these new girls like Billie ellish got there essence from Amy Lee...especially the dark esthetic

Sup Mob. Algorithm
This band and album was such a HUGE part of my musical taste developing.... right next to Lil Jon and Lady Gaga. LOL
I appreciate your videos very much. Thank you for doing them. Please look up how to pronounce facade.I know doing this makes me look like an ahole but I want people to know how to pronounce things so others aren't rude to them.
Omg brother. Check out a band from mass named Fear Nuttin Band. Yardcore! Reggae and metal mashup. Champagne will get you turnt!
Be fair, this is a banger.
"facade" is pronounced- fa sod.
starting of this video always gives me max payne1 vibes (the game)
For a good rap and metal mashup, Listed to Numb, By Linkin' Park. Just sayin'
Amy Lee was a tragic loss. She was so talented. And shes back!
Edit: damnit someone told me she was on that sub! Honestly idk where that misinformation came from. Sorry!
Was? She isn't dead.
Right?? I was thinking…..hold up!! Did I miss something?!
Maybe tool?
Hello, When Linkin Park?
the guy singing here isnt in the band. he was kinda forced in by the music industry. amy wanted to sing this alone
This music came in my daughters generation. I remember hearing it and thinking, " how awesome this song is." I used to feel that way abiut someone until Yahweh showed me how I was " idolizing" that person.
Writing hits or great lyrics at age 19 is not uncommon in the history of rock music
whoever the f#ck recommended daddy by korn you done goofed, now he wont ever react to another korn song. daddy and a few other album closer tracks are some of their darkest and heaviest. but you gotta peep other korn songs, singles, deep cuts, b-sides bruh give them another chance. suggest somebody someone.
