  • Always in search of the best cooking, least messy, easiest cleanup kitchen gadget to make living the carnivore lifestyle simpler. Is this it?
    Zstar Indoor Grill Air Fryer on Amazon: Seems to be out of stock again.
    I have been recommending the Ninja DG651 Foodi Smart XL 7-in-1 Indoor Grill instead. I own this grill and although more expensive, it has a built in thermometer and great build quality.

    Noooooo, Mitch! No more gadgets! At this point in my life I want less stuff, less clutter, fewer things on the counter.
    It was so liberating to replace our bulky coffee maker with a simple Italian moka pot.
    True story: Some years ago a neighbor came over with her sister, who had never been in our house. After entering the living room she looked around briefly and said, "Where's all your stuff?" 😂
    Yeah, I hate clutter, as does my husband, fortunately. It must be hard to have a partner with the opposite feeling in that regard.
    But enjoy yours, Mitch! I do hear great things about them.

    I tossed out my kitchen stove nearly 20 years ago. Don't miss it. I have a Farberware skillet which I use for most everything and have for over 40 years. Wood stove season, I can pan fry on the stove. I have a counter top oven I used for mostly pizza back in the day. Now it's been off duty but I can do bacon, roasts, etc in it. Don't need another thing. I've looked at the instapot thingys but ugh; too old to learn another method.

    It looks like a great grill. I live with my granddaughter and her wonderful husband, I get to help with my great grandson’s 3 and almost 5, the chicken coop, house and laundry. I love their Ninja Max, I am collecting the grass fed finished beef lard in the bottom of the pot. I use parchment paper and have silicone trays for the bottom because of the finish. I do love using it for steaks as well with the 450 setting, it’s very easy to clean. I have a stainless steel filter for mason jar’s I collect the lard in so simple, I do the same for bacon grease cooked in the oven in a separate jar. ❤

    I love my air fryer and use it mostly for chicken wings and thighs, I have also found that it works well for Salmon. For steaks and burgers I trust my cast iron skillets. They are a little messier but as long as you treat them right they are easy to clean. I do like to avoid any man made coatings as much as possible.

    • @OldGuyCarnivore
      @OldGuyCarnivore  3 місяці тому

      That's great advice. I have found however that the ceramic coated pans that I use have no forever chemicals and are are great when nothing works quite like a non-stick pan. I also enjoy cooking in carbon steel, as it generally is much smoother than cast iron, although still heavy enough to retain heat and cook evenly.

    I’m fine with my Chefmate airfryer oven and induction cooktop burner. Also have a Waring convection oven for larger things such as bread and maybe a ham, prime rib, or Turkey a few times a year. And honestly I like the idea of putting everything away at the end of the day. And having a nice counter space for prep. Now outside I have a single gas burner that gets up to 750,000 btu’s for whatever I feed it for, including crawfish boils or even stir frying in a wok. But I’m satisfied with those. Rather have one thing that does a specific job well, than a bunch of things that multitask things poorly.

Set the heat to med-high, wait till the pan is ready (you can watch UA-cam videos on how to cook a steak in a stainless steel fry pan), 3 mins each side. Perfect medium rare. If you put water in the fry pan right after you take the steak out, it takes less than a minute to clean it with steel wool once it cools down. I place thin slices of butter on the steak as it's resting. Perfection.

    I've been having GREAT results with the Dreo Chefmaker. It is more expensive but it's absolutely wonderful at making steaks. It has a chamber on top for water and it can cook in sou vide mode. Steaks are brought to temp and then it stops and switches over to 450 degrees to broil. Season the steak, put in the temp probe, fill the chamber with water, set to chef mode and the type of cook, med rare etc, you want and walk away. It will let you know when it's done :)

    I have a Emeril's 360 air frier, it does a bunch of different functions. It does reallly good with all the different functions. I've never cooked a steak in it. My favorite method for cooking a steak is to dry brine it for about 24 hours. Then I get my pan hot, use unsalted butter, sear both sides, then turn the steak every 2 minutes until it's done . Makes a very delicious steak. I use unsalted butter because it doesn't burn during the cooking time.

      I'm really not too worried about the coding on the air fryer, primarily because the food doesn't cook from the Heat of the coated metal nearly as much as the hot air convection cooking from the fan. Whatever small perceived risk, is outweighed by the ease of cleaning. If my lifespan Were A Thousand Years, I would definitely worry about that small amount of forever chemicals. This is, of course, my opinion.
