Love these Loaches they're one of my favourite tropical fish I have kept a group in my planted community tank for 2 years now and they are very active and entertaining to watch. Great video!
love them love them love them .. they are like fox or wof cubs always playing with each other I have 5 in a tank but guys.. they can stress other fishes out... anything with a larger than normal fin .. ie. angel fish guppies.. etc.. but they as rachel says have so much character and i know they are £20 in the uk each they are so active and when not so cheeky too... just buy them in at least 4 at a time ... thank the queen rachel for showing these beautiful loaches off and keep up the great work my dear..
Jeez, thanks. Now I own a single dwarf Chain loach fish. Went to an lfs and was only planning to look. Saw he had some young healthy looking plecos (bushy nose) and decided to grab one. Then he said, I have a single chain dwarf loach that needs a home. interested? I was torn up as he was alone, and ended up walking out with one. Now I need to hunt down and locate 4 more to add to my aquarium. Should be fun. Oh, and he popped the bag on the way home. good thing I live close the the LFS. He's doing well in a 55 gallon long tank now.
Really like the look & behaviour of these little chaps. Rachel, do you think they would be suitable in a planted tank with an ADA Amazonia aqua soil substrate?
So cute and so active. I love these guys. They definitely DO eat small shrimp, sadly. Learned that the hard way but a small colony of Bamboo shrimps have been left quite alone by a group of these guys.
I’ve just had them in pairs. They hung together tight, relaxed and remained playful, never nippy to each other or other fish. Plus only have 10 gallon. So 8 is out of the question. My two were no different than what I saw from yours.
I have a newly cycled 55 gallon planted tank and I'm looking for some loaches to put in there. I would like to get 3-5 total but I would like to have 1 of each subspecies, that grows to about 6" and a little bigger than the diameter of a finger. what would you recommend? the tank sits Infront of a window so as to help the plants and alge grow, so there will be no lack of food for them. any advice from the queen guru would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 10 gallons with some few neon tetras, guppies and Otocinclus . It is a planted tank infested with snails. Do you recommend getting 3 of these loaches to help me to solve this problem?
On the topic of loaches.....I have a single clown that I'm trying in a 75g community tank. He seems to be in "high drive"/overactive stage. Possibly stressed? Showed early ich stages (thank God only fish so far affected but that's another topic!) :-) In your opinion will he adjust someday and calm down or was it a bad idea for me to try to raise only 1? Or are clowns just super energetic?
They seem too small to eat nerite, pagoda, or mystery snails. Am I right in that assumption? I miss my Dojo loaches, but won't risk losing my snails because I think they're super important. I wonder if these little dudes could be a suitable replacement. Nothing beats loaches and Corys in the fun department.
They are a very beautiful species of loach that I've never seen before! Racheal, what's your take on the Kuhli loach as I'm thinking of getting a group for my 30 gallon:)
+Rachel O'leary thanks for the reply. Luckily I already have sand so that should be great! How many would you say would work best in a 30 gallon with 7 cories and 8 guppies:)
After watching many of your videos, I am about to embark on a planted red cherry shrimp and mystery snail 10g tank. If I added a small group of Cory Cats, would they eat the shrimplets if there were any?
+Billy Hall dwarf cories are least likely to do so,bit I would encourage you to let the shrimp establish first. You may find you enjoy them so much you don't need/want more activity
+rudesucker I have them in with adult yamato/amano and so far it's fine. I would worry that they would harass nerites but it's worth exploring. I haven't had issues with them uprooting plants in the past, but I don't generally do delicate carpet plants so cannot speak to that
+Rachel O'leary thank you for your reply! that was fast. Oh I don't have delicate foreground plants either. If only have some midground plants in my tank, I should be good to go ?
@@RachelOLeary If the Russian sturgeon and American paddlefish can create a viable hybrid I don't think it's 100% out of the question. I will just assume it's never been attempted until someone can come forward who says they've given it a try.
Hey Rachel, I just started two weeks ago into the hobby and I have the Fluval Spec 3 tank. I got everything I need to have fish and the water been cycling but even tho I did everything right I managed to bring around a dozen bladder snails with a crypt plant that was giving to me from a co-worker. In another video you mentioned that these snails get worst in breeding but I don't think i want none of them in there. I don't want to start all over from scratch from what other people told me to do. For the size of my tank what species can I have that will eat these tiny snails?
I went out and bought 6 chain loaches and one buy one they are all passing away. I can't find any info online of what to do. Currently one is laying still and periodically it jerks and they goes still again. All my other fish are great. I don't know what to do.
That is weird, The three I have are in a 3.5 gallon tank with an air stone, and a slightly bigger power filter than the tank requires. I do 25% water change about once a month to once every two months. All the fish seem to be doing okay for the last year.
will they eat nerite Snails? I see u have one in there with them. I have a 180g discus tanks that has a bunch of nerite Snails to help clean a little and wouldn't want them to slowly eat all my snails. thanks
+Jacob “GreenGo” Green mark duffill bred them. He has a few books he wrote on breeding loaches, and is a speaker (will be at catcon this year). He lives in the uk, so doesn't often come to the states
when did they get so cheap they used to be about 20-35 bucks when i found them and that was if i could find them at all i had 1 and ive only ever had one because of the cost but it hung out with the 2 yoyo loachs i had and seemed ok but i lost interest in the setup and tour it down donated all the fish to the lfs where he and one of the yoyos jumped

10 $? Wow... one of the reasons why I never got sidthimunkis is the price... they're about 18-22 $ in my country. (Compared to the 3-9 $ or so, for most other loach species...) So a group of 10 or more --would swallow a huge chunk of the aquarium budget...

just a absolutely beautiful little fish just makes me want more tanks haha, thanks for sharing
Very cool little fish!
They are super cute Rachel I've never seen these before they look magnificent 🤗🤗
+PsychedelicBabe they are fantastically wiggly lol
Rachel O'leary 😂😂😂😂
I was lucky to find these at my LFS! I didn't know that much about them at the time though. Thank you for the information!
Very imformative, Thankyoi for doing this work👍
I have a group of nearly 30 and have noticed a couple of my older ones swimming in this frenetic circle around each other. Are they possibly mating?
I dress up my otos as dwarf loaches for halloween.
😂
Hi thanks for this video!
This botia are friendly with guppy or corydoras?
wow fantastic video & very informative thumbs up!!
I wish I could find some of these. I love yoyo loaches but they grow bigger. These are cool.

Can you tell me if they will eat snails as large as Mystery or Nerite snails? Thanks
Would 20 gallon long be good? Or do they need bigger tank
Cool video. I ordered your book too!
Are they a good controller of miniature rams snails? And will they feed on nerite, mystery?
Can these live peacefully with panda cory catfish?
would these fish eat shrimp if i put them together in a tank?

They are super social.try giving him a tube shaped cave to rest in

Do they have ich? Also do they eat tiny pest snails.
Every fish can get ich.
Can i put them with large steelhelmet snails and Amanos ?

I always love watching these at my LFS. How many would do well in a 17 US gallon planted tank?
200
i have a small garden pond and i wanted to put some loaches in there what kind should i get? The pond can reach temps from 60 to 80 degrees.
Are these similar to Dwarf Banded loaches?and what is the minium sized tank?
omar aljanaideh yes I want to know as well!
omar aljanaideh let me know if you find out, please and thank you
Great little fish agree nice group o 12
Hi Rachel , do these dwarf chain loaches uproot plants in planted aquariums? Also do they harm yamato shrimps or nerite snails?
+rudesucker I have them in with adult yamato/amano and so far it's fine. I would worry that they would harass nerites but it's worth exploring. I haven't had issues with them uprooting plants in the past, but I don't generally do delicate carpet plants so cannot speak to that

Can these be hybridized with rosy loaches?
No, I would think not but not 100% sure
@@RachelOLeary If the Russian sturgeon and American paddlefish can create a viable hybrid I don't think it's 100% out of the question. I will just assume it's never been attempted until someone can come forward who says they've given it a try.
@@bluebowser3121 dwarf chain loaches are exceptionally difficult to breed, rosy significantly easier. But I do agree and am not a geneticist
Would these guys be suitable with Borneo Suckers or would they be too active & crazy?
Hi Rachel ... noticed they have what appears to be white spots. How will you treat them?
+Adrian T it's air bubbles from the temp container. They are totally cleat
If you think that they are developing ick, you can get ick treatment, it’s a liquid and should be safe, or you can use methylene blue.
Do they eat Malaysian Trumpet Snails?
Hi Rachel, I love these little guys. Do you know where I can get some online?
They are still in QT but she has them in stock herself and at a VERY fair price! msjinkzd.com/stocklist/

assassin snail is the only real option
what do they eat
Will they bother my endlers

+II Knucklez II so far, no. Time will tell
How do they get along with cherry shrimp?
They will eat them
Are there any loach which are snail safe?
my favorite fish. bar none.
I keep these with discus and corps, I love them.

+Ebay Guru a really big net
Do they eat fry?
yes
dope video
Almost 12k subs damn Gina! 😂😂
+FishOnMatt crazy, right
very cute
what is the minimum tank size for a group of 8?
There is no hard rule, but personally I wouldn't keep them in a tank smaller than 30 gallons, because they're so active and they love to explore.
Do dwarf chain loach eat snail?
+coolwater411 yes, but not voraciously
I have a school in with mystery snails and assassin snails, and the DCLs leave them alone.
whistlingbadger they meant pest snails, assassins and mystery snails are fairly large.
Are loaches carnivorous ?
+lee wightman depends on species, these are
I have a 130 liter could i have 2?
What a sight! 😟
Do you ship to Canada?
+Paul McKenna just hardscape for now
Do one about queen loach!
They are a cool species, just expensive.
They remind me of caterpillars
