I am starting my bacon fat collection!! I can’t wait to make this soap!! Thank you
It’s very important to get that fat really clean or it doesn’t last as long. Starts to turn dark yellow after months. But it’s still great soap!
@@JulieHiltbrunner thank you! I will render this weekend! 🤞🏼😊
Wow. We're definitely not eating enough bacon around here. That's got to change, because I want to try that - partially because I've always wanted to make my own soap, and well - because bacon. Thanks very much for the shout-out. Stay safe. Cheerio.
Hey! Sure thing! Yeah, its really fun. : )
How funny! This is back when you sent me my Dinna Fash t-shirt!
I know this is an old video, but thought I would point out that baking soda is a base, you don't use a base to neutralize a base. You would want to neutralize a sodium hydroxide burn with a weak acid. Vinegar or lemon juice would work. Thanks for the tutorial. Easy to follow.
Thank you! Now I’ve got to figure out which video you found down here in the basement of old videos. : )
@@JulieHiltbrunner soap from bacon. 😉
You look amazing in your rain gear and rubber gloves Jules! My dogs won't leave me alone the way it is.... They'd probably devour me if I used that soap! lol
Chuck
Unfortunately, it does not continue to smell like bacon. After a couple of days it just smells like the scent I added. : ) TY
@@JulieHiltbrunner maybe I can find some bacon extract
do you always mix the lye outside? if you don't always do it, it's valid to wear a mask
What kind of mask do you think is sufficient? Like a respirator or just an N95?
@@JulieHiltbrunner N95 is fine, models like 3M 8511 and 8210 are enough
Awww I don’t think I’d trust my self trying to make it lol...I’d defo frazzle myself...excellent stuff 💕...awww big kisses for Henry x
That's why I use the calculator. I don't trust myself with fancy math!!
Since you're a diy kind of gal would you consider a mini series on bamboo?
Making charcoal, and then activating it.
And just in case this helps, for some reason bamboo always likes to grow near the highway. I have no idea why though 🤔
That actually sounds like fun!
@@JulieHiltbrunner Thank you!
Pretty much the same way that granny made soap but with an online calculator and electronic scale.
I always over complicate things!
Aww you're so cute! I love your bloopers 🤣❤️🌸💗
Okay... in that case, we can be friends!
@@JulieHiltbrunner Yay, you can never have too many crafty friends! 🦋 Thanks for teaching me how to recycle my bacon grease!
Great! Love the Voice!
Mine? 😂
@@JulieHiltbrunner Yup! the little one. It fits your personality! It makes the video fun.
My mom made lye soap.Whew!
You remember the smell?
Yep!@@JulieHiltbrunner

Why am I suddenly craving Mackinaw Island Peanut Butter Fudge?
I don’t know. But I’ll take some cookies if you’re making the trip.
How did you get the meaty smell out? Also, did you just wash the gloves the next day in water?
It has no meat smell. If it does I imagine the grease wasn’t clean enough. Melt the grease pour into water. Let harden up. Remove only the clean grease from the top. Repeat as necessary.
Yes, just wash the gloves 🧤 the next day.
Do you put something over the stuff you leave outside overnight, due to it not being safe for animals that might come across it? Also, you can do white vinegar and water to deactivate the lye.
No, I leave it uncovered and up high. Thank you!
Why not use stainless steel spoons and bowls or glass bowls?
Stainless steel and glass are fine, to the best of my knowledge. I would not use aluminum. I just wanted to use disposable stuff. Let me know if I’m doing something dangerous!
Should get a face shield
GOD Bless you, Julie ! I’m not sure if the risk is worth it. Lol Why is lye ok on the skin after it cures.. doesn’t water re-activate it ? ✌🏼🤓♥️💫🤗 ... ( I do know lye is in store soap... ignorance is bliss 😳 🤣
After 48 hours it’s no longer lye. All true bar soap is made with lye. --from the wisdom of the Internet--“Lye itself isn't a safe substance to bathe in; in its original form, it's actually caustic. Even though every real soap begins with lye, there is no lye left in the finished product. During saponification, the chemical reaction between the lye and other ingredients forms soap.”
For years my husband wouldn’t let me make soap... He thought it was too dangerous. Now he has no dry bumpy skin and he’s like... “Why did you take so long to learn to make soap!!” I can’t win!!! 😂.
Creating Julie Silversmyth ... Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks ? Thank you, Julie.. I’ve learned something new ! 🤓 Take care, happy bathing 🧼... I can’t help thinking about the ones who first put lye into soap ... no ER’s 😩 Sorry, that’s how my brain works. 😏Thanks again, Sis 🌸🤗♥️
Could you share the calculator website? Thank you!!

Creating Julie Silversmyth thank you
Mmmm, soapy and bacony! Hehehe...
Jenny!!!! How’s things?!!
How did the lather go?
If I added olive oil it went well... if don’t then it lathers less. I don’t remember on this one. All my soaps so far have been successful, though.
I have an idea!
**goes out looking for liposuction leftovers**
That’s just sick enough to be very funny!!! 🐷 only! Good to “see” you.
Did you ever watch Fight Club? Is that what sparked your idea?
Too complicated for me!!🙄
