    Hello. I'm a 31 year old man. Grew up butchering cows and still do a few every year. And I've always felt a level of conviction about the throw away stuff. I've only recently been interested in this process. This is an amazing way to use every bit. Thank you for posting.

    As a chemist the emergency vinegar wash is quite correct, Lye is Sodium Hydroxide, it is very very caustic and will cause chemical burns of a very serious nature if not promptly washed off, Vinegar is even better, Lye is very hydroscopic so it absorbs water fast from the air.

      Lye is a caustic which is an alkaline meaning it has a high ph. Caustic has a very high ph compared the ph level your skin needs. Vinegar is acidic meaning it has a low ph. Your skin has a tolerance level of 4.7 to 5.7 which is slightly acidic to help fight of bacteria and help prevent dehydration anything above or below that can start to cause skin irritation. The further away from that ph tolerance you get and the longer, the more severe the irritation becomes causing a chemical burn. The idea of adding the acidic vinegar to treat the alkaline caustic is to neutralize the ph level to stop the chemical reaction on your skin

    • @chr0nicb0red0m
      @chr0nicb0red0m Рік тому

      Not to step on the creator's toes but lye is necessary to turn the fat into soap. You can make your own from wood ashes if you like, but all soap has had lye in it. When cured, all the lye has been used up, so there is none left in the finished product.

    • @itzakpoelzig330
      @itzakpoelzig330 9 місяців тому +1

      The saponification process requires a substance with a strong enough alkalinity (pH 13 or 14) to break the ester bonds of the fat molecules. Lye is the most commonly available substance with a pH that high. Any others would be just as dangerous or even more dangerous, as that's simply a feature of a very high pH.
      If you can't buy lye where you live, you can make it out of hardwood ashes.

    Fantastic. I’m a beef farmer from New Zealand and I’m about to get a beast slaughtered. I will be asking for all the fat so I can make these wonderful products. Thank you. Much appreciated!

    Thankyou for this excellent recipe I'm exited to try my hand at soap making:) Can I use a magnisium brine for the water portion of this recipe?

    Do you keep a separate crockpot and blender for soaps? I’ve never made soap, would like too and worried about the lye. Should I keep the tools I use for soap separately and not use for my cooking?
    Also, I like fruity smelling soaps, what brand of essential oils do you recommend, that have organic and have fruit scented oils.
    Thanks great video!

    Hello,
    When curing the soap, do you leave it out on a cooling rack, in a container or wrapped?
    Thank you

    Hi
    Thank you for the clear recipe 👌
    My question is regarding whenever I’ve used soap made from animal fats, they seem to be extra greasy. Or sometimes excessively gelatinous.
    Is the oil-lye-water ratio off?
    Or is slightly oily or gelatinous “par for the course”, w Lye and animal fats?
    Thanks 🙏

      Thanks! Temperature does matter somewhat, it helps everything come to trace in the right amount of time if you pay attention to temperature like I show. Yes, you can use other oils. I have another video where I show how to make soap with tallow, coconut oil, and olive oil 😊

    Thank you for the advice about keeping vinegar on hand ! Very helpful for new soapers .

      Never, ever, EVER use vinegar on a raw, soap burn! As soon as I saw this advice, I realized you have not been making soap very long. In the event of a raw, soap burn, use fresh, cool, running WATER. WATER ONLY. I’ve been making soap for twenty-five years. While vinegar is an acid, and an acid will neutralize an alkaline base (lye aka sodium hydroxide) this should never be done on the skin. Fresh, running water only! I just began watching your channel and I love so many things about it, but watching your soap making methods is a bit cringe-worthy. Please, PLEASE stop using that crock pot, it is not necessary. Filling it to the brim with raw soap is so unsafe, my jaw dropped. I would hate for a new soap maker to overfill his/her container with RAW SOAP and spill it everywhere. I have too many additional corrective comments (ex: leave lye water outside for 10 minutes as a measurement 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️) , and I dislike sounding so critical but please Marisa, do more research on CP soap making before dispensing what could be, very dangerous advice. I am genuinely expressing concern for your welfare and the welfare of new soap makers. Thank you, however, for this wonderful channel.

    How and where do you store the soap bars to cure for the four weeks? Do you have to cover them or do you leave uncovered?
