Prores 4444 is quite overkill, 422 is good enough. There was even a whole movie shot recently in 422 LT, which is even lesser. No visible quality loss, and much less data to save. I'd also turn on the aliasing helper on the exporting screen, because MLV is highly aliased footage. Also, you need to use MLVapp's menus to fix the footage (e.g. bring down the highlights etc) before you export. That's why RAW is important, it allows you to fix highlights, temperature, and iso.
Oh it is? Haha, good to know! I was just experimenting so I didn't realize. I've played around with the menu and I really like how easy it is to fix those things and get a flatter picture profile. Way more effective than doing it in Premiere Pro at the cost of reducing image quality
Sorry, another follow-up. On my other MLVApp video, someone had a question about exporting. Since you know your stuff, if you have any extra help you could give him, that would be awesome. Thanks again for all your comments and extra tips on the EOS M camera. They've been super useful :)
Thanks Juan! Appreciate your comment and I'm glad this helped you! I'm still experimenting with these settings and making sure my camera runs smoothly with all the scripts. But even before I used them, ML was great for just doing the basic tweaks to my camera like ISO, WhiteBalance, etc.
The hack has so many great features! I love the bitrates. Now yeah the camera may run a little she, but i haven't had an issue with quality Loss from preformance. The only thing you need to watch it for, the hack can destroy the camera with no return. It doesn't happen often though, quite rare
I know! That's what worried me at first. Have you been using the ML Raw settings? That's why I haven't pushed it to 2.5k yet. I said I wanted to try it at the time, but I might not after all. The main thing is having dedicated memory cards to that camera with the same firmware on all of them or else it freaks out.
@@StellarDakota The upping of h.264 bitrate doesn't give you that much really, Canon's h.264 encoder does not scale (which is why their 4k looks almost identical to 1080p even in their newer cameras). It already encodes at 48mbps in 1080p which is enough for that resolution.
Haha, thank you for commenting, Uncle Bills! How'd you like the M3? I keep seeing it on ebay and it's not much more expensive than mine so it's tempting at times to want to try it out. Can it run ML too?
@@NerdLensStudios its a little better in low light also it has a flip screen and those are about the only advantages. The autofocus is no faster but i mainly use older manual lenses. Hello - how much size it takes 30 second clip recorded in 1080p Mcm rewire? It took more than 1 GB for just 40-60 clip for me for raw video and I didn't like it much. And how long it takes to export that 28 second clip from MLV app? Because for the 40-60 sec clip, it takes about 30 minutes to export just one clip from my pc.
my photo pusher just ordered the Olympus 5mkii with the shit kit lens for me!going to order the 7artisans 7.5mm wide angle lens on friday!not 4K setup just yet!thats next year
Cool! I keep seeing people talk about the 7artisans lenses and they sound pretty solid. Good luck with shooting 4k when you do get started! The more I use it, the more I realize it all just depends on my memory cards and computer in handling larger file sizes. Thanks for commenting!
Haha, it pretty much is. I've only used Sandisk so I don't know much about other brands so you never know. But yeah, the Extreme Pro is great and I'm glad they're getting cheaper to buy. Thanks for commenting!
Have you tested how long you could record for in RAW? I'm trying to catch like a 4 minute long interview on a 64gb card.....and if I did it at 2.5k or even 1440 would I be able to do it?
Using the 1080MCM Rewire setup, I let my camera run about 8 minutes before stopping it, but it definitely seemed like it could have kept on going. The thing I have to remember to check for when adjusting my RAW video settings like at 4:02 is for the "Continuous recording OK" message at the bottom of the screen in green letters. So I would say to adjust your settings until you get that message and then just test how long the camera goes before you shoot your interview. Or else set your 2.5k at the lowest resolution and then plan to adjust it in MLV App. Hope that helps!
@@NerdLensStudios alright awesome advice. 1080 MCM rewire might be my 1st test before running 2.5k. Probably might not touch 5k as that's a bit overkill.
My pleasure! I hope one of those solutions helps. Yeah, as long as you got that "continuous recording" message, it'll definitely record longer than just a few frames or seconds. And same here--I haven't tried either 2.5k or 5k much just because I worry about how the camera will handle it. But maybe the more recent ML builds have smoothed things out a little better.
Yes, you can do continuous recording for a while on this. The main concern I hear that people had is that the camera will heat up quickly. But I was able to record for several minutes on it.👍 have you been able to?
@@rafaelnunes1909 that's great! I still love using mine and it's a great camera if you're just getting started or just want a cheap 2nd camera. It all depends on what you want to use it for. Best of luck!😀
