- The July 2020 build included a massive new feature called the sd card hack. This hack allows your eos-m to record at higher bitrates. This will minimise a lot of corrupted footage and lots of other benefits yet to be tested by myself.
Massive respect to the ml team! PS, I said builds but it should have been DANNES BUILD.

Iam using crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_raw_only_2020Jul10.EOSM202.zip and i dont have 5k anamorpic rewired. What build are you using?

my canon eos m oin the settings i seen on it before it was 2.0.2 but somehow that firmware check option dissapeared along with the star on the far right of the settings any help? Thank You

Great video, I just picked up a eos m for doing live streaming in OBS. Its a steal for the price, and so far i've had great luck. Do you have any recommendations for ML settings for live streaming out of the HDMI port? So far the best thing I've discovered is the "clear overlays when idle" setting to get a clean HDMI. But i've messed with other settings, the ratio, which can be set in 3 different places(confusing) and picture style?? Should I install a specific picture style like cinestyle or technicolor for live shots? I seem to have better luck in 3:2, it gets rid of the black bars at the top and bottom of the video output. I know the HDMI output isn't full 1080 either, its something like 1620x1080, which i think is 3:2?? Sorry for the long rant lol!
Yeah clear overlays is best and choose whichever ratio fills the screen.
It's a shame about the low Res hdmi output but most people watch on phones so not a deal breaker.
No point in installing picture profiles on here really because raw dosen't bake them in, just use the canon profile you like the most....just get used to slightly overexposing to get better shadows and use highlight recovery in mlv app.
Amazing! So with that write speed does it work better in modes like 2.5k? I love the 2.5k mode on the m i think its incredible. No pink frames with a monitor finally? I mean i had good experience using that but i know you've had trouble with that in the past.
Ready to test this to death mate! If this goes smooth 2 5k I'm going to be sooooo happy

What longest record times have you gotten at 1080p? I suppose 1080 would be more reliable than high res modes?
Man, this is finally the upgrade I was looking for. CONTINUOUS 2.5K IS NOW POSSIBLE!! - I ordered a ProGrrade 64GB which has a write speed of up to 130mb a sec. It was cheap so there was nothing to lose. With custom setting of 2.5K centered and the (feeling lucky) setting, I got a little over 1 min 50 secs of 2.5K at 2224 x 946 - 14Bit Lossless RAW. It only stopped because I stopped it. While not the full 2.5K - still the results were amazing! - The only downside is (at least with my camera) after awhile the software starts acting up. The workaround is to temporarily take out the battery and card, put it back in, change custom settings all back to 1080 to get it back to normal and then go back to 2.5K - still hit or miss but this seems to work most of the time. - But truly impressed with these guys. I believe if I get a better card, I may have no issues at all.
That's actually amazing!!! Yes not quite 2.5k but enough raw information to make that look stunning.

Ps, I hear that about it acting funny. I always go on about 1080p because it's as reliable as canons own firmware.
I'm working on a new grading process which should hopefully help me get some stunning, clean 1080
@@Altcine I need to! - I am actually still learning this thing. It has taken me 3 weeks to get to where I'm at and I'm still learning. I bought it along with 2 FD lenses and a focal reducer. I did not know you have to manually set each lens so that you can manually set the aperture. Next, I had 3x crop mode on the entire 3 weeks. I thought the focal reducer was a joke then I realized I had that set..
Now I have finally got it about right. Downloaded VisionColor, Zeeks luts, and some others. Now just learning better lighting techniques and waiting for full 2.5K at 14Bit.
Good stuff, sounds like you're on the right path 🙌🏾 someone just posted on the Facebook group that he's getting continuous 2.5k 14bit at 2520 X 1080 with the SD card hack so it's all looking great.

I have a 5 D MIII and I have been using ML for 8 years.
I have just installed DANNE Build the version of August
and I don't understand the versions that I used previously saved my settings but this one didn't at all
I have to re set my camera every time I turn it on.
do you have an idea how to keep the setting

Yeah it's crazy how far it's come.
Open ml menu, go to PREFS, make sure Config Autosave is turned on.
If that doesn't help let me know and I'll ask the other users.

Hi, I'm afraid you can't yet. Magic lantern isn't available on the M50 yet.
Gonna try this out, I snapped an original M attached to a 22mm f2 lens (which I actually wanted), for 200€ combined yesterday, so it was basically a steal for the combo. Doesn’t hurt to play around with RAW video recording :-)
That is a good price as I hear good things about that lens. Definitely try out raw man, once you get used to the workflow it'll be hard to go back to standard 8bit

I hope so as I use 256gb and 400gb cards and they weren't cheap lol

@@nahualritem8452 yeah 400gb. Crazy thing is I only paid £60. I've started adding deals or vouchers I find to the community page so they should pop up. I've only done one but I'll keep it going.

I downloaded the latest build from July but the setting MV 1080p MVM rewire is not there. Just regular 1080p HD, 2.5k, 5k timelapse, etc. I have it on an EOS M w firmware 2.02. Am i using the wrong build or didnt set it up right?
Apparently that is how mv1080p is labelled now🤔 that's what I read on the group.
Could you do a video on which SD cards are best for the hack? I am currently using a 90mbs Sandisk Ultra and my footage does not record more than 5 seconds, with loads of green glitch artifacting. I am certain it has to do with the write speed of my SD card but perhaps there is more that I am missing ? Thanks for your great content
Hi, thanks for the compliment. The only card we should be using is SanDisk Extreme Pro.
The new ones with 170MB/s (read) are the latest and are quite easy to get at reasonable prices. Please make sure you buy it from a reputable seller as even Amazon has fakes.
There are other cards that work and I've tried many but the extreme pro are the best you can get.
If you're having trouble recording the SD card is usually the first thing you'll get asked.... especially if you want to take advantage of this hack.

I have the sandisk extreme pro 95mb, is the 170mb faster now? If so, can you link us some of your recommendation?
Looks the read is faster which could help with play back, I'll test properly between the two and see what happens.
Personally, I only bought the 170 because I wanted faster transfer speeds to pc.
@@Altcine I use extreme pro 170 but in benchmark test the speeds of read and write is 61mb more or less, i cant rec in 12bits more of 7-10 seconds... is a fake card? i buy from Amazon, or where is the error? the magic lantern is sd overclocked to 190 speed :-( thank you!!!

I can't even remember what build this is tbh but it was very close to the date of this video.
Is there any way to make the autofocus better?
Unfortunately there isn't. You can give the camera more to work with ...for example a plain wall with you wearing something dark and using a native lens but that's about it.
Would not having the right SD card cause problems? I seem to be missing some magic lantern settings.
The settings would still show but you may have issues recording. Also remember that the build has changed since this video and the link in info is updated too.

I keep getting ‘movie was stopped automatically’ after 3 seconds using hd1080p preset
I’ve formatted the car sim my computer and camera and still no progress. Is it the actual card itself that’s the issue?
Is it a sandisk extreme pro? There’s a high possibility it’s the card. Did you buy it from a trusted vendor? Even Amazon sellers have been known to have fakes.
How old is the card?

I’m using ML on my 700d and my footage comes out grainy. Almost worse than shooting without ML. Do you know why? I’m using a low iso and correct exposure.
Ahhh there's so many variables here. First you could try exposing to the right and then bring highlights back in post.
But there's so many questions first....what iso? Is it the camera's native iso? What lens? What kind of conditions are you shooting in?
@@Altcine I’m using 100 iso, 50mm lens, and the conditions outside have been bright with an ND filter. I just found out that my SD card is actually 20mb/s so maybe that is contributing to the low quality? I see a lot of other people getting great videos with similar settings (high card speeds though). It may just be my camera, or sensor. My younger brother has the same model and his videos come as clean and nice.

I can do but tbh they're 2 different camera's because of magic lantern.
The question is...do you want a 100% reliable 1080p cinema camera with manual focus or a camera that records 4k, 1080p with great AF?
Personally I need both and I use them totally different.
What I'm saying is...a comparison is useless because they are both great for different things.

As I say to most people, try to get the best out of 1080p in post and you shouldn't face any issues.
Everyone shows the good bits but rarely talk about the bad. I think that's why people have high expectations and end up dissatisfied.
Mv1080 is the way to go, play it safe

@@singleshoot786 excellent. I don't think it is. The eos-m has the best support for magic Lantern. With other cameras I believe you have to do it manually.

Hi, no this is only for original m at the moment.
There actually aren't any cameras that go past 10-bit yet you can buy, lol. This thing does 14-bit. Maybe $15,000+ cinema cameras some might have 12-bit not sure.
Very true, the Bmpcc4k and 6k are 12bit so not even close to the m. It's madness lol!
The thing is...the eos-m really spoils you man. I know the footage can have aliasing issues but you can get around it for some great footage.
@@Altcine I think you can get around most aliasing in MLVApp. I own six blue EOS M cameras. Don't have any good lenses yet, though.
