      @boogiedownbronx73 check out Rémy's latest. He goes over the updates on the 4 vs 5.
      If you are into a downhill park bike, it probably won't matter, as we all probably upgrade after purchase.
      If you're looking for different geometry updates it may or may not matter. A 180mm rig is definitely a niche spot. Hopefully Propain sticks with it. I don't need a full on DH because I have to pedal. My next bike will probably be something like this for park mountain riding, and those chunky double blacks I have to pedal with the right gears and seat angle.

    Curious as to what you think about putting the new Marzocchi Super Z 190mm fork (or the Zeb 190mm) on the CF version to make it lean more toward park, but still nimble enough to pedal up. It would slacken the 63.9 degree head tube closer to the park version but not quite there. I like the longer chain stays on the CF vs the park version. Thoughts?

    • @INSTASTABZ

      @@INSTASTABZ Not according to the Propain website. The CF and AL versions have 445, but the park AL version has 435. The extra 20mm of travel in the park version would have a bigger impact on the headtube angle (63.9 vs 63.5) if the chain stays were the same.

    Norco made the Shore quite a few years back using basically the same long, low, slack geo defined around 2019ish w/ HP-- whats new since? I know we're going back to longer chainstays, and what used to be shorter travel bikes are getting longer?

    Legitimate question sorry if it is stupid as I'm a mtb noob. Is there any advantage on downhill/park bikes to have the smaller cassettes like the 1x9 over a 1x12. I know you aren't really doing your own pedal climbing but is it just that the 9 speed has closer ratios otherwise why not have the best of both worlds throw on a 1x12 and if you get a tow bonus

    • @DontWorryImAPilot
      @DontWorryImAPilot Місяць тому

      1x12 has a lot of advantages. It also has a lot of sacrifices made to get to those advantages.
      1x9 can be lighter; the chain, cassette, derailleur, and jockey wheels can be more optimized for the space they occupy; and (if I remember correctly) shifting on a fewer-cog cassette can be done with a shorter derailleur cage making it less likely to get hit on the trail and making any hits less damaging (because there's less leverage due to the shorter derailleur cage).
      Basically, a 1x9 can do what a 1x12 can do in a more reliable, resilient, and lighter way with the downside of fewer cogs so the gear range isn't as wide-ranging with small steps as the 1x12 can provide.

      In dh bikes you dont need 12x and big rear chainrings like 51 or 52 tooths. Dh bikes are only for riding ... downhill. Is that whay you should have gears for fast riding. 9, 8 and even 7 gears its ok. Some dh riders used road casettes, which have max 28 tooth on bigest rear chainring

    Maybe this is why MTB sales have cratered. The average rider has no use for a bike this long and slack, and yet influencers and journalists have pushed bikes in this direction for years now. So now Remy Metailler can ride even faster down 60 degree slabs, but who else does this? The fantasy alone won't sell bikes.

      Too much marketing in the mtb world right now, when in reality most of us don’t need that much travel or even ride a carbon frame bike and pay a huge amount of money to be over bike

    • @xcx8646
      @xcx8646 Місяць тому +1

      Maybe. But bikes that cost as much as cars are only attractive to a few, and most of this few aren't buying every 'season'.... because the bikes cost as much as cars.
      Modern mountain bikes are capable. They can survive what most of us subject them to very easily, so should last a while.

    • @tomd1826
      @tomd1826 Місяць тому +8

    • @MC_5562
      @MC_5562 Місяць тому +6

      Here in Germany I know some MTB skills coaches or guides, who get massive discounts on the mountainbikes from the bike brand their skills coaching/guiding company cooperates with. They sell their used bikes after one year for the same amount of money or maybe even more than they paid for them. Then they buy the newest model for the new season and so on. But normal riders definitely don't buy a new bike every year. It's just too expensive. Also the changes/improvements in bike geometry or components usually aren't very big from one year to another. I personally bought a 26 inch enduro bike about 10 years ago and then I bought a 29 inch enduro bike in 2019. I still ride both bikes and they both are super fun. At the moment I don't see any reason to get a new bike soon. The 29er still feels pretty much up to date and works just fine for me.

      If you live in a place that has the gnar, it would be really cool to have a sweet enduro rig that can you can swap in a double crown fork and take to the park. There's a lot of people riding pro lines these days. It's not uncommon.
