      I’m so happy seeing a newer comment cause everyone was talking about how much they love this version than the one starring Whitney Houston and Jordin sparks but only cause sister died in the original but I prefer the newer one cause the old one reminds me of my real life.. one of my older sister died due to drugs but a man was the one who got her into it. Her and I including our older sister use to sing together all the time but she got lost in the very little attention we got I miss her so much. She was a grown women and can’t no one tell an adult how to live

    If you pay attention to the movie, you would understand that this movie IS about Sparkle, feeling like she had to live in her SISTER's shadow. The movie is called Sparkle, because once Sister died, Sparkle had to learn that she could be great on her own, by herself... The movie is called Sparkle, because the movie is centered around the building up of her character. It's quite simple if you've ever watched and paid attention to the movie :-)

    If you like the remake, that's fine. But I don't understand not liking the original bc Sister dies. That's what drugs do. They take someone as beautiful and talented as Sister, and they kill them. The original Sparkle was so beautiful, yet so tragic. It was real. You really feel Sister's pain. The remake, like most movies made today, is glossy, sugar coated, and pretty, but that's about it.

    • @conradsutton1456
      @conradsutton1456 9 років тому +9

      Caramel Spice I get what you're saying. But drugs also can take you the route it took sista. Plenty of people in Jail for the same circumstances. But on a lighter note, do you think both of them got the part because the showed how they could go from fine to mess and make it look real?

    • @maliah812
      @maliah812 9 років тому +13

      Right and it seemed more relatable to people from the ghettos trying to make it then they go through all that when they've made it.I'm only 17 years old but my mother raised me on alot of old school movies like this so when I saw the remake I was highly disappointed. They sugarcoated it waaay too much and when was Satin Struthers ever a comedian? Lol they really did a poor job of remaking it and I didn't like the way the songs were sung either

    For those of you saying it looks like Delores did not know the routine (IDK why youtube wont allow my to respond directly anymore?) if you watch the movie you understand why. Sista is being abused, doing drugs, and drifting away. Sparkle is an enabler, but Delores is confused and wants to help. Its called acting. Sista hides behind makeup, Sparkle is young and naive, Delores wears her emotions on her sleeve. It show during this performance. Thats all. Good acting. Havent seen the new one, but yeah...She bumps Sista, Sista gives her the side eye. Its all acting, shes not pulling a 'Michelle'.

Their struggle in trying to make it "big time" it shows you how a monster can take someone so beautiful as sister and destroy every part of her being til it eventually kills her. You can feel Aretha Franklin Soul presence throughout this movie! Theirs really no comparison, Whitney Houston version was Awesome but it can't touch the "Classic" Never ❤️

      @@debragainey8109 I was born in the 80's. Too young to enjoy the movie til late 90's Envogue was my first. Theirs was clean. Riri takes off! Took some time to get use to. Sister's is gritty, tells her story. 3 totally different modes.

    Thank you so much for posting. I can't hear these songs enough. In response to a question in my proviate box, the movie came first. Aretha was asked to record the soundtrack to promote the Curtis Mayfield soundtrack. It didn't receive the push & promotion it should have - neither the movie nor Aretha's album. I think its some of Curtis Mayfield's best work, and the original cast did an awesome soundtrack, as well as Ms.Aretha.

    GOD BLESS US ALL!
    Always will love both versions of this song: Aretha and Leonette/Irene. The movie was real, and yes, the girl/Alice does look unrehearsed, which is real. They weren't " polished "yet. Just kids, won a contest, and then bar singing; fast. That was the time. No perfect performances, just singing; they did well. Love, Irene's two beautiful runs in the bridge, as Leonette preaches during it. Great!!Tears.
    GOD BLESS US ALL, EYES ON JESUS, and EARS TO THE HOLY SPIRIT DAY and NIGHT

    This is classic!!! The first time I saw this movie, I was 17yrs old and I wanted to hop on a plane to Hollywood and be in movies. The movie was so raw and so real to life situations. I wanted to be an actress and tell a story just like the characters in the movie. It also made you feel as if you were sitting in the same scene as the actors.

    The remake was a completely sanitized version of the original. The grit, hustle, and realism of poverty was completely overlooked. This was primarily because TD Jakes, along with Whitney, who executive produced the film, wanted a more Christian themed storyline. In the original Sparkle was getting in with Sticks whenever they could. In the remake, Sparkle was a virgin all the way through, and Sticks was a cornball. All because of Pastor Jakes' vision. The remake was a complete disservice to the original.

      You said it all for me! They had the money for the remake, but not the heart! Wasted talent in the new version. I only enjoyed Whitney. And they changed her character from a maid to a former singer repenting for her wicked ways!
