Their chemistry, this song, their phenomenal talent. I grew up on this movie, they all deserved awards. This version is better. This man was and still is fine and she's gorg.
Ashley, keep believing. I saw this when I was younger (and Mahogany) and I fell in love with 'love.' I've been married to a gorgeous man for over 30 years.. True love is very real and it is pricelessl. Here's my wish for you to love a lifetime's worth!
My mom too, this was her favorite movie. She is no longer here and seeing this is bittersweet. I am crying writing this because it makes me miss her but smiling too because it brings back memories of watching this with her. Love you Mommy ❤🌹
This was actually not acting, people. This was a genuine deeply heartfelt moment between the two of them and the camera just rolled. Absolute and pure human emotion. Almost spiritual.
AllisonakaSakura I liked this version a whole lot better than Aretha franklin's..I think Irene and the girls did a good job singing the songs in the movie therefore their voices should of been on the soundtrack...but of course they weren't household names back then so Aretha's got it..She doesn't have a passionate, sensual voice to me..I always vision myself sitting in a pew in church when i hear her sing.
This is heartbreaking. She was one of my faves growing up. I don't know how many times I sang along to, "Out Here On My Own" on my 45. That song was on repeat as a kid. I loved Fame, first the movie, then the TV series. If you haven't seen the movie DC Cab, you should look it up. It was hilarious. A lot of great actors was in it including Ms. Irene Cara. She was a very gifted and talented woman and was wrongfully taken advantage of in the industry. Rest in Peace Ms. Cara! Your work will forever live on. 🙏🥺❤️
I own the DVDs of Sparkle, Fame, and DC Cab and watched the VHS tapes of them as a kid in the 1980s. Some of Irene Cara's off-the-radar stuff is also pretty interesting. Sparkle was also Joel Schumacker's first screenplay before doing The Lost Boys and Falling Down. Philip Michael Thomas went on to do Miami Vice and voicing Lance Vance in GTA Vice City. Sparkle is a little movie that kicked off alotta important careers.
My mom used to sit me and my girl cousin down as kids and introduce us to classic movies. This is one of them. This scene makes me cry because it’s beautiful, but it also reminds me of my deceased mom. She knew great talent and I’m so happy she introduced it to me at a young age. Also, rest in peace to Irene Cara. I found out she transitioned this morning. Thank you also for leaving us your art/talent.
This performance is breathtaking. It really makes you wonder why "Rico" and Irene Cara didn't do more collaborations and why neither never made it in the music industry, save for two big hits for Cara. All the musical talent in the world, these two... Just shows you how vital management and promotion are to the careers of singers..Black love, nothing greater, in this scene. I'm American Indian but still inspired by this film romance showcasing how powerful the bond is between two Africans.
Very true & very well said. I completely agree with you. I think both of them are very talented & beautiful people. I prefer this version of the film compared to the remake. In my POV.
Thank you, Marquita. It's an absolutely mind-blowing scene and performance that I can watch over and over again. It makes me miss the old days of cinematography and music.
It was back in a time when being young and trying to get out of the ghetto and having a man love you unconditional and would do anything just for his lady to shine. Back then that was love. Not saying there's no love now but back then it was wanted, trusted and desired to no limits.
I went to see this movie 3 times when it first came out. I especially enjoyed hearing Stick (Phillip's voice) singing with Irene. I also like when he said " let's cut it, yall.
It's 2017, and Im still saying the same thing I said when I first saw this movie at age 14, He Is Sooooooooo Fine:) Philip L.Thomas, The Finest Black Man I have ever Seen, beautiful, If I were back int he 70's:)
I have absolutely no idea why this scene popped up in my head while driving home from work & I had to come here & watch it! I like this movie but it was too depressing until it got to this point. Still a classic!
I've been watching this movie over and over and over since the early 80s...this scene ALWAYS makes me cry. Their on-screen chemistry is UNMATCHED! Irene Cara is forever eternal❤️🕊️💫
How many times have I cried watching this particular scene as a kid growing up admiring Irene Cara so much? If you've never seen her in Sparkle, Fame and Aaron loves Angela, those are must-sees. This original version of Sparkle is everything wonderful, from beginning to end. Superb acting, singing, costumes, the whole 9 yards! I love you, beautiful Irene. You inspired me to sing & dance as a youngster, and we had many other things in common also, even looks & thick, long wavy hair. Rest in heavenly peace now, as you've spread your wings and flew away from this earth. Your amazing legacy is set in stone, and you'll never be forgotten. Prayers up for Irene Cara's family & friends who are bereaved at this time. See you in Heaven, beautiful one. God's got you now. In Jesus' name, amen.
This movie and score from this movie give a brother chills in a good way. Future R&B Artist clearing your pipes at all those Black Baptist Churches, please bring these kinds of sound back? Please..?
Loved this movie .thank you Irene for your music and movies.just sad that you never got the flowers that you truly deserved.and thank you that you made time to talk with your fans on various platforms rip sparkle/coco/fame Bertha/roots next generation /cece in sister sister🙏
OMG! I will always love this song and this movie! It's my favorite. It's so sweet, touching and real. Just smiling, makes me feel good to hear it every time.!
My all-time favorite movie! I was so happy when it came out on DVD. My parents took us to see this at the drive-in. I love Irene Cara's voice. Aretha Franklin sings the original on the soundtrack. Classic R&B! Love it!!
Yes,I loved this as a kid and still love it now. I never understood why they let Aretha Franklin do this soundtrack. I prefer the original tracks. Irene killed thus and that high note...."yeah,yeah,yeah...ahhhhh!!!!" Wow! Love that .
Happy 74th birthday to Philip Michael Thomas 5. 26. To our original heartthrob, Stix. We looked forward to our first kiss, after seeing this classic for the first time.
BELOVED Miss. Irene Cara a true national treasure God Bless her beautiful soul Magnificent contributions you made to this life, we thank you💝 R.I.P. #IreneCara✝🕊#RIPIreneCara
Every time I see this raw example of talent, I SMILE! Nothing against the new movie, but this is what Sparkle was all about! Their struggle to the top was hard, people died, people sacrificed, laid it on the line, and somehow they made it. That's what was missing from Sparkle 2012. That was the NICER VERSION, but I love them both!
BEAUTIFUL SONG ----LEAVE THE BAD THINGS BEHIND EVERYBODY'S GOT A STORY--WHERE DID I GO WRONG WITH LOVE: DON'T-KNOW SANG-IT STICKS AND SPARKLE, LOVE IS THESE TWO.
OMG, this is my absolute favorite part of the movie. For me, it was one of the most romantic scenes ever in a film. What makes it even better is to know that they were really singing this song. Philip Michael Thomas-oh I had a big crush on him! Every time Irene Cara hits that note I get chills! All the women in the movie were so beautiful! Truly an iconic movie that has stood the test of time.
One of my favorite songs that was sang by this iconic movie couple in a timeless and priceless movie. Seems like it was just yesterday. The Casting was perfect!
Sparkle was released almost 12 years before I was born - but once my Grandmother introduced me to the film at 3 years old, I continued to hold this body of work close to my heart. Today we found out that our Sparkle transitioned, and while that pains me - I sincerely hope that Irene knew what impact she had, and the indelible mark she left on black culture. Rest in love beautiful - you will be sorely missed. 🥺🧡🧡
I know! I would love to have the actual music from this soundtrack. Irene, lonette, and Philip singing would have been much better! Now I have to see if I can find the song Jump that the girls and guys performed together.
I only sent that this is a very pretty love song between Irene camera until Michael Thomas I thought I had forgotten all about that song that evidently it was indebted within my heart. I'd like to thank you I miss you as well as Philip Michael Thomas. I mean you will never be forgotten and for this particular song between yourself and Philip Michael Thomas beautiful. Sweet I mean you will never be forgotten thank you 💖🥀🥀🥀
This brings back so many memories from my childhood ... I remember me and all of my cousins used to gather and watch this together ... growing up sucks because all I want to do is go home to my grandma, but she passed away, and the family is separated ... I miss the old days so much
One of the most beautiful movie scenes from my generation ......well I was only 12 yrs old ...but when I saw this movie I fell in love with Irene Cara...and then when Fame came out....lol They don't make em like this any more .
Phenomenal! The fact that the cast of Sparkle was not allowed to release a soundtrack was extremely unfair! I am a fan of Aretha Franklin, but it still was not right.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, that Philip Michael Thomas gets me every time. Damn he's fine. This is truly a classic. It sounds like they filmed it LIVE which makes me appreciate it even more. Irene Cara tore this song up..
I think the original Sparkle was better but I really liked the remake. Whitney Houston saw a dream project come true. She brought so much life to character of the mother in the film. I think the original Sparkle and Stix characters had better chemistry than the characters in the remake. Overall, we have two great films.
Some say they like the original version of #Sparkle more. How 'bout, in comparison, I like the original, ONLY. No offense to the late great #Whitney; luv her, but the movie 'Sparkle' that she played in? Nay. Beauty can be replaced. But substance? Depth? Now, that's not easy to duplicate...in *this* context. This scene... so much love, purity, shown. Can watch *it* over & over again. Thnx #IreneCara & ...what's his fine-ass name again from #MiamiVice?
I love this song and movie! I think it is one of the best movies ever made! I wish they would show it on cable! This scene, is one of the best parts in the movie! What also makes this scene great is that both of them can sing and they know it!!
My favorite scene in any romance film ever. Brings me to tears every time. Rest in forever peace, Irene Cara. I loved everything you touched. ❤👑
Rip Irene "What a Feeling" Cara!!!🥲
He was so patient & gentleman w/ her!!! Phillip Michael Thomas is a Beautiful man😍🤩

Their chemistry, this song, their phenomenal talent. I grew up on this movie, they all deserved awards. This version is better. This man was and still is fine and she's gorg.
My mom made me watch this movie with her now I own the dvd. Every time I watch this part it gives me chills
Makes me believe in love
Ashley, keep believing. I saw this when I was younger (and Mahogany) and I fell in love with 'love.' I've been married to a gorgeous man for over 30 years.. True love is very real and it is pricelessl. Here's my wish for you to love a lifetime's worth!
I never been married would like to be some day
It does exists, but not for everybody.
Exactly my story
My mom too, this was her favorite movie. She is no longer here and seeing this is bittersweet. I am crying writing this because it makes me miss her but smiling too because it brings back memories of watching this with her. Love you Mommy ❤🌹
This was actually not acting, people. This was a genuine deeply heartfelt moment between the two of them and the camera just rolled. Absolute and pure human emotion. Almost spiritual.
This the part that brings me to tears 35 years later
Love is the only timeless essence
How do you know?
I love this part.
She was still a minor. 😒
To think Irene was just 16 years old being able to understand and sing with so much emotion. TALENT.
I prefer Irene over Jordan Sparks, I always get goose bumps when she nailed that high pitch
The new Sparkle sucked.
great chemistry between Irene Cara and Phillip Thomas
AllisonakaSakura: AMEN
AllisonakaSakura me too i like this version over arethas too 😀

This scene still makes me melt and tear up :-)
Stixx and Sparkle are Simply Beautiful 2gether!
My favorite part in the movie...beautiful moment and I love Irene Cara's voice!
This was real music you hear me!! Philip Michael Thomas and Irene Carroll... Just beautiful...
Irene Cara
Irene Cara
Curtis Mayfield songs... Timeless!
Whitney Houston did it as well
@@jenniferponton5566I beg to differ! Her version was too pop, and the deep feeling of the song isn’t there. IMO
Irene and Philip play such a beautiful💔role in this wonderful classic movie Sparkle Irene Cara please Rest In Peace🎑

My fav part, demonstrates how love can heal one's pain
So very true
One of the best chemistry scenes of all time!!!! The remake was a joke! The original Sparkle will forever be one my favorite movies!
Love this part, keep coming back just to listen 💕💕
Yes but the remake wit Whitney Houston was good too but not good as this one this was Whitney Houston favorite movie
This movie holds a special place in my heart always
This song makes me cry it's so beautiful they sing about the kind of love everyone wants❤❤❤

This was an emotional beautiful real movie! You felt the emotions of the characters.

I've been watching this movie over and over and over since the early 80s...this scene ALWAYS makes me cry. Their on-screen chemistry is UNMATCHED! Irene Cara is forever eternal❤️🕊️💫
