To be honest, I don't really understand why some persona fans say that Akechi is a ripoff adachi after playing Royal. On the surface, there are similarities but when you dig deeper, it stops there.
Yeah, their motivations, personalities and backstories are totally different. Some people really are completely incapable of anything beyond a very basic surface-level analysis like "WOW BOTH ARE DETECTIVES WHO KILLED PEOPLE" 🙄
I mean, no, it's not just surface level stuff with the two, and I'm saying this as someone who loves both of them nearly equally. Granted, I'm sure a non-insignificant number of people who whine about it aren't really doing so in good faith, and probably really are just looking at the surface, but nevertheless. Both of them are very obviously themed in very similar ways; they are both presented as being the antithesis to the protagonists and as their rivals (which, at least in terms of rivalry, is more obvious with Akechi, especially in Royal, but is also pronounced with Adachi in both the anime and in Arena to an extent), they both masquerade and hide their true nature's, and so on. There are a number of very important differences, of course; like was stated above, their motivations and personalities are very, very different, but nevertheless.
@@papapalps2415 yes I agree they have similar themes but I'm mainly talking about their personality, their motivations and the circumstances in which they grew up.
I'm glad that you placed Yusuke in the upmost tier, if you hadn't then I may have resorted to drastic measures to convince you otherwise... On second thought, I actually will take drastic measures after seeing your Ai placement.
Best written Persona character is a stretch but he's without a doubt the best written Persona protag, just by default of him having actual writing, that also happens to actually be really good on top of that.
@@gz4wbz not a stretch at all. There's insane amount of depth to him if you play Tatsuya scenario alongside the recontext given for his character in IS after playing EP.

Yukari is my favorite female character in the entire Persona franchise and in The Answer you have to understand that she wants to see Makoto once more, I understand her when you lost a person that is important to you, maybe I made the same choice if I lost a dear person for me and The Journey he has every type of personality and I love how she laughs to Junpei.
I really have come to love Ann as a character as well. Easily went from a mid tier to probably my favorite p5 character. Also, I was the same with Makoto in the beginning as well. Now I am whelmed with her. Like Makoto is okay. Shes probably mid tier and probably swapped with Ann. However, I don't care much about Yusuke. I think he is carried by Matt Mercer being his VA. I also think the reason why Morgana is hated is because of how mistreated Haru is about and tbh, why did they shaft a character who is introduced to push a character whose been in the game since the beginning? I think they expected people to like Morgana more than Haru, which is probably not true. Edit: Yukari is overhated. Girl is just a bottle of undealt with trauma.
I can agree with the S Tier being dominated by Persona 3 characters and most of the P5 cast being average to below average with some outliers A few P5 characters (Makoto, Haru) are retreads of other characters but somehow even less (Makoto and Haru just feel like two halves of Mitsuru) A few characters are often as intelligent or as stupid as the plot demands (like how Futaba is somehow the best hacker ever but she is the one who lets an AI app that she did not make have access to all of her personal information and schedule in P5 Strikers (a huge data security risk for a criminal group like the Phantom Thieves, and the opposite of how she was introduced to the Phantom Thieves because of their poor Data Security in 5), Ryuji and Morgana's fight is genuinely why I didn't platinum P5R so I could have a Platinum for P5 and P5R, a lot of the characters don't seem to have anything happen when Joker isn't there unlike in P3 until P5R with the Counceling, they all just feel less real and less consistent/developed than the P3 and P4 cast)
I do not get the Makoto and Haru comment they are nothing like Mitsuru in my head. Maybe like their backgrounds (good student and rich family) but deffo not their personalities.
@@dewott3754 their story arcs are pretty similar Haru's arc is genuinely "Company Heiress who loses her dad and has to learn to live for herself, also breaks up with her arranged partner" Makoto is "Super smart straight A straight laced soon to be valedictorian who needs to learn to loosen up and live a little, also has a penchant for punishing/executing people and is the one the party is scared of when she gets upset" Like, their arcs and traits are so similar, they may have a unique character trait or two, but most of their background and character traits save visual design and flair are just pieces of Mitsuru but *maybe* a bit more tropey
The way I look at it is it’s hard to make a character that has never existed before take idk chie a tomboy who enjoys martial arts, and is more energetic you can probably find a few dozen characters that more or less fit the same bill in any form of media so you kinda gotta look at their more individual aspects like her relationship with yukiko and the dichotomy between the two same with Makoto in the way she has a tendency towards cute-child like things or Haru’s caring nature with her tending the garden. Idk just my kinda take on it. Also I feel like some characters in the persona series tend to fall in kind of the same archetype because of the arcanas and the role they have to play towards the protag.
@@XZOMBIEXSLAYERX1 I understand how archetypes, arcana, and the difficulty of making unique characters can be difficult. I mostly just say it because Makoto and Haru tread super close, Haru is not helped by her lack of screentime yes, but Makoto's ability to use the whole calculate feature (because Mitsuru's initial role was to analyze Shadows and reveal their powers before Fuuka joins in) and her role in the party just has so much overlap with Mitsuru that it is really hard after 4 playthroughs of P5 (another reason why the Okumura's Palace intro just made me drop P5R halfway through) to not see her overlap overtake the smaller traits she has that are different (smaller because they do not show up in the story nearly as much as when she is filling a very similar space in P3 that Mitsuru fills). Naoto is also a smart character who is more analytically inclined in P4, but she is not the party's executioner when the guys are being stupid, she is not straight-laced to hell to the point of not understanding how normal people relax and act, and she is not magically treated like she is above the other party members at points like what happens with both Mitsuru (with Yukari) and Makoto (with Morgana). More things could *not* overlap other than traits that appear a lot less than those that do overlap. Mitsuru and Makoto specifically are also different Arcana. Haru needs more screentime lul, but a lot of her is a repeat of Mitsuru's character arc so she suffers so much from lacking chances to develop and show otherwise.
