Honestly, I’d prefer the SNES version. It’s not my bias towards Nintendo that’s making the decision. I just think the first 3 Mega Man X games are SNES games first and foremost. That’s not to say the Saturn/PS1 version isn’t impressive for the time though. 🙂
i remember that my older brother rented x3 from blockbuster when it was still around and played on the snes and had the animated boss intros was that a blockbuster exclusive megaman x3 cardtridge?
Honestly, I'm gonna stick with the SNES version. the game was basically built for the SNES anyways. aside from the FMV cutscenes & CD Quality music/sounds, It really doesn't offer anything new. The cutscenes drags the game a bit more & you got loading times to top it off. The SNES has shorter cutscenes & no load times, it basically throws you into the action. I also think the new CD Quality music in the Saturn/PS1 version sounds kinda unfitting for a Megaman X game. I don't mind Techno music but when I think of Megaman X music, I think of a more Heavy Metal/Rock style music like what the SNES trilogy does.
Wait this game had a sega Saturn release? I’m quite familiar with a lot of these games. Even the dos version with those cyan and magenta colour mode with pc speaker noises. The only sega mega man game I knew of was for the mega drive
The Saturn got versions of MM8, MMX3 and MMX4. X4 is just like its PS1 counterpart with some subtle differences. Some stage songs have an intro before the stage itself begins, they added ripple to the water, and transparent objects use dithering rather than the PS1's native transparency. And MM8 got extras the PS1 version didn't have, such as CutMan and WoodMan as mini-bosses. They come with all new sprites and remixed themes from MM1 and MM2. Sadly you don't get their attacks when they're defeated. It also had a Bonus Mode with artworks, voice test and music test. And some songs are sightly different due to different instrumentation (except for Tengu Man's stage, which uses a completely different bgm)

wtf I didn’t know the Saturn version of X3 had all these FMVs Also the cropping on Saturn is strange and it looks like it also experiences more frame drops than SNES oddly enough
Here i prefer the SNES version over the Saturn or Ps1 ports because: - I didn´t like the added FMV, it has poor quality and everything looks very jagged as if they did a bad downscale from the original source. - The music. The Ps1 and Saturn soundtrack don´t fit very well with the prior X games, the soundtrack sounds more "jazzy" while the Snes sounds more like Heavy Rock that the seires was known for. - Loading times, at least on the Ps1 version, the Saturn version doesn´t seem to suffer much from it though.
The intro is cool, but the rest of the fmv is crap. I don't like the music in any of the versions, 32 bits is too clean and doesn't fit, and Snes is too harsh, and almost every music uses the same instrumentation. sounding too similar to one another It's much worse than the music of X and X2.
I'm good with the FMV. That's cool and of course it's gonna look like shit. especially by today's standards. Im sure it looks great on a CRT. BUT THE MUSIC...that's unforgivable. Moving to a Jazzy theme than the hard rock OST for the game was an ass move.
@@Samanosuke1138gamers need to stop comparing 30 year old games to "today's standards". It's so absurd. The FMVs look fine for the time, that's all that matters. Of course it doesn't look good as the witcher 3.
PC Windows 95 verison of X3 is the only version with a hard mode, eg an actual change, and contains all the videos from the saturn version. People don't seem to know this version exists along with its GIANT big box. You think the SNES box artwork is nice, multiply that by 2 with the BIGBOX of a PC version of this era.
If you were to compare X3 for Saturn and PS1, you'll see that the Saturn version uses the correct 4:3 aspect ratio while the PS1 version just stretches the game to full screen.
All the contrary, the Saturn is showing the wrong aspect for this game unlike the Ps1 and Snes that show the correct 256x224 resolution in 4:3 aspect ratio.
SNES cant do 320x224, while as Saturn cant do 256x224, and since the saturn's gameplay is in a frame, logically we can claim its the SNES resolution within Saturn's one. The lacking 64 pixels are compensated with this frame, same thing with previous VCDECIDE with ghost n goblins 3 comparison. As for PS1, it supoorts both 256x224 and 320x224, not stretched but snes authetic
Eu prefiro a versão do SNES...
The different music changes the whole feel of the game for me. Its like when they put Wolfenstein 3-D for the 3DO and went with orchestral versions of the lame music from the Mac version, instead of the better PC compositions.
Yeah fun to think saturn is the only port where u have the game in original aspect ratio 8:7 with bezels in a 4:3 tv. But this only happened cuz saturn minimum resolution is 320x224. While megaman on snes is 256x224.
this game was made for a 256x240 resolution, so, Snes is better, even if just for that. Things can get really small on Saturn, depending on the size of the TV.
Gameplay Graphics look better on the SNES. The FVM stuff of course can only be done on a CD system. Though I feel thats just fluff. I'd skip past all the to get into the game.
Just based on the Intro stage, the SNES version has better music. There is a such thing as too much and unfortunately, the saturn does this. Removing the hard electronic guitar from Zero's theme was an interesting choice. And giving the stage a more jazzy feel than an urgent feel through the music was not...ideal...?
If you're going to compare the Japanese versions of both games, at the very least use the correct controller. You're using the NA Super NES controller on there instead of the Japanese Super Famicom controller.
SNES wins. I don't know why they made a weird border and squashed image in the Saturn port but it was a bad decision. (edit: it's most likely the SNES' original resolution with square pixels)
What happened here why is the saturn chugging compared to the snes lmao (specifically the slowdown, I'm aware saturn doesn't do 8:7 and looks like it scrolls slower)
I was actually surprised to find out I'm in the minority that prefers the CD music (though TBF I don't think either are that great).I'd say the PS1 version is the best version of this game since it runs at the original resolution. The X Collection comes close since it also does that, but the CD audio is noticably more muffled. This Saturn version is good but if you don't have a modern scaler, the borders and skinny aspect ratio are pretty distracting. It does have a higher FPS for the opening movie compared to PS1, and interestingly, the Saturn video was used in the X Collection versions.
I also prefer the CD arrangements myself, especially for Blizzard Buffalo's stage. God, that one was just hauntingly beautiful and perfect for a cold, desolate stage.

Rockman X3 vs Rockman X3 Special Edition Well for one thing the Special Edition added animated cutscenes. Production values seemed really high with some quality animations. However the opening cutscene for the intro when X and Zero destroyed that machine the image quality plummets. Fans of the original will be frustrated with the Special Edition do to the cropped image display compared to normal widescreen. Stick with the Super Famicom version unless your a dedicated Rockman fan and collector. Rockman X3 Special Edition 3 Stars I was bored so I made into a movie review. Don't take this seriously.
The Ost on Snes in my opiniom is better than the Saturn's Ost, but the intro on the Saturn version is a gold, but I still prefer the Snes version 'cause this maked part of my childhood.
The Saturn version with that cool intro video and better sound quality is my pick. A good intro video is always great for setting the mood of the game. Also it’s cool the boss characters get their own short animated video.

Again that is not the correct aspect ratio. The game was intended for 4:3 aspect.
@@jsr734 Once again you're wrong re read the comment
Is it more likely that the Saturn port is running at a higher resolution and thus because they didn't want to stretch the image they decide to make the image smaller by adding the vertical side bars?
@@MrReedEnt Yup, the Saturn's lowest resolution is higher than the lowest resolutions available on PS1 and SNES.
@@jsr734 on 4:3 all chars look squashed
Honestly, I’d prefer the SNES version. It’s not my bias towards Nintendo that’s making the decision. I just think the first 3 Mega Man X games are SNES games first and foremost. That’s not to say the Saturn/PS1 version isn’t impressive for the time though. 🙂
What so impressive about the Saturn/PS1 version though? FMV? Seen that before.
I like the anime cutscenes for the saturn version, but I absolutely prefer the snes sound and ost over the saturn/playstation version.
i remember that my older brother rented x3 from blockbuster when it was still around and played on the snes and had the animated boss intros was that a blockbuster exclusive megaman x3 cardtridge?
I always felt the SNES version better, even on the music department when the Saturn/PS1 was unfitting and the SNES felt with more power.
Zero is THE coolest mega man character ever!
Woow the SS ver is truly impressive
Why is the audio playing at the same time and not switching back-and-forth?
1:37 Oh no!
Pobrecito.
I think both are great.
wtf I didn’t know the Saturn version of X3 had all these FMVs
Also the cropping on Saturn is strange and it looks like it also experiences more frame drops than SNES oddly enough
the Japanese Ending on PS1/SS version is INSANELY better than the SNES ver. and PS1/SS European ver.
X3 is not my favorite, but for sure is the best!
Here i prefer the SNES version over the Saturn or Ps1 ports because:
- I didn´t like the added FMV, it has poor quality and everything looks very jagged as if they did a bad downscale from the original source.
Yeah, the 32-bit ports of this game were completely unnecessary as they added nothing to the game itself.
@@SomeOrangeCatIt gave the people the option to play them on Saturn. Not unnecessary. Sorry.
@@Samanosuke1138gamers need to stop comparing 30 year old games to "today's standards". It's so absurd. The FMVs look fine for the time, that's all that matters. Of course it doesn't look good as the witcher 3.
Muy buena la conparasion saludos desde cdmx 😮😮
PC Windows 95 verison of X3 is the only version with a hard mode, eg an actual change, and contains all the videos from the saturn version. People don't seem to know this version exists along with its GIANT big box. You think the SNES box artwork is nice, multiply that by 2 with the BIGBOX of a PC version of this era.
Why is the "Saturn" controller an 8bitdo M30 with a SEGA logo slapped on it?
@@coatlessali I was about to say the same thing!
SNES is the BEST 😎
Funny how the gamecube and ps2 version had the animated intro and boss intros but the 2018 re-release did not.
Sega Saturn si sabe poner introducción muy chévere
If you were to compare X3 for Saturn and PS1, you'll see that the Saturn version uses the correct 4:3 aspect ratio while the PS1 version just stretches the game to full screen.
In other words the PS1 uses the same aspect ratio as the source material, the SNES game.
The SNES version was 256x224 instead of the full 320x240. That was very common on the SNES to use that resolution
@@crestofhonor2349 No, the Saturn version was 320x240 instead of the full 256x224.
Eu prefiro a versão do SNES...
The different music changes the whole feel of the game for me. Its like when they put Wolfenstein 3-D for the 3DO and went with orchestral versions of the lame music from the Mac version, instead of the better PC compositions.
Man idk if this is controversial but I’ve always felt the snes soundtrack was way better than the Saturn one.
ROCKMAN X3 not Mega Man X3
the snes game is prettier, but the sega entry is cooler, so what matters to me is the game itself
Do my eyes deceive me, or is the Saturn version displaying the correct integer scale?
Yeah fun to think saturn is the only port where u have the game in original aspect ratio 8:7 with bezels in a 4:3 tv. But this only happened cuz saturn minimum resolution is 320x224. While megaman on snes is 256x224.
7:56 👍
It's funny. Sega has objectivly the better sounds, but it does not trigger the nostalgic for me ^^ - feels even wrong ^^
this game was made for a 256x240 resolution, so, Snes is better, even if just for that.
The Saturn controller is off too
Is the sega Saturn 8:7 aspect ratio? Snes looks wider...
I forgot to watch the left side of the screen lol
SNES wins. I don't know why they made a weird border and squashed image in the Saturn port but it was a bad decision. (edit: it's most likely the SNES' original resolution with square pixels)
Snes has stretched images. Saturn gives us the original resolution.
X is basically Indiana Jones
The Saturn soundtrack sounded thin.
What happened here why is the saturn chugging compared to the snes lmao (specifically the slowdown, I'm aware saturn doesn't do 8:7 and looks like it scrolls slower)
Quick and dirty port. They spent more time slapping on window dressing than optimizing the game code.
Resolution on the Saturn version seems right. SNES looks stretched.
snes Bigger sprites, better Sega music, more fluidity, in-game videos
Huh…Saturn version seems slower for some reason. I wonder why
Intro are so crazy. But the ost dont the same ora like snes

Nice anime scenes but music is distorted on sega, doesn't hold the "epic" tune that we heard on snes.
Other than the cut scenes, it's basically the same game. Getting a new gen console really didn't buy you much, did it?
Rockman X3 vs Rockman X3 Special Edition
Well for one thing the Special Edition added animated cutscenes. Rockman X3 Special Edition 3 Stars
I was bored so I made into a movie review. Don't take this seriously.
Zero theme no snes ficou melhor que no saturn
a versão do Sega Saturno é boa mas eu prefiro a versão do Super Nintendo.
Nice intro but i prefer Snes version
what the hell they got an anime intro dude!!!!
and they got more anime for each lvlv what!! 3:07
Nintendo: 1995
Sega: 1996
