I remembered learning about the metaphor for the opening phrases of the sonata. Usually, antecedent is followed by a consequence, as if question is met with answer. However, question here met with even more questions, as if they lead not to hope or resolution, but a deep spiral of despair and tragedy leading to a bottomless abyss. At this stage of his life, Schubert already knew he did not have much time left as he accepted his sickness wasn’t getting better.
@@Damuvader Maybe the other way, Schubert having the idea for his sonata from Paganini's Caprice 24 since the Paganini was made before this Schubert sonata. I personally think Schubert knew Paganini's caprices and decided to reference at least one of them, but it's also possible that it's a mere coincidence.
The 2nd movement variation on 14:40 sounds like the 2nd movement variation 2 of Kreutzer sonata. I discovered this sonata before that one and haven't heard this one in years so it's just now that I finally found the resemblance between the two!
Si Schubert hagués nascut al segle XX no hauria estat tan genial. Ara la gent amb el rock i el reggaeton estan com bojos. Aquestes meravelles no les senten. Com se li pot dir música a aquelles porqueries?

0:52. Schubert's love for Beethoven is real.
1st movement is amazing
That part in the Scherzo where it modulates from A flat minor to E minor is so damn smooth.
31:46 Sounds a bit like Paganini Caprice 24 hehe
I thought so too haha :D
Could Paganini have had the idea for his caprice from this Schubert sonata or is this just a coincidence?

One of my favorite piano sonatas from Schubert!
Scherzo: 23:25
The run at :30 is one of the most satisfying melodies I’ve ever heard. Like it makes this song worth learning.
That is my favourite part as well!
Oh boy what a Christmas miracle!
