Mate I cant thank you enough. The heating in my flat has been so bad for the past couple of winters. That we bought electric heaters to put in the bedrooms . I bleed alll the radiators and noticed that the 2 radiators which I thought was nearest to the boiler downstairs were cold whilst upstairs were warm but still not hot. I just watched the combination of your videos on freeing the Pump after the summer and also balancing the Radiators and this is the hottest the flat has been in almost 5 years. Thank you so much . This video has just kickstarted my heating after I had tried everything else and was seconds away from calling a repair guy out. Thank you so much for posting this - I owe you at least a pint mate!
@@dereton33 Hi, Great video! I am getting 04 error on my Vokera Linea 24.. which is low pressure. So I followed your video and the pump is free so with the central screw removed on the pump I fired up the boiler and the pump spins but only slowly. Does this mean it's knackered .. I am guessing it should be spinning fast.
Thank you. You just saved my heating system. Stove back boiler was nice and hot when I realised the pump wasn't working. Tried what you said and it's working now. Thanks.
As a lot of other comments, fantastic. You have just rescued us from a cold house. Really can't thank you enough. I was just about to message the landlord about yet another problem.

Thank you for this video clip. I performed the steps and my heating came back to life. I saved myself money having to call out a professional for what only took 5 minutes to do.
Thanks so much for posting this video. Fired up the heat for the first time after coming back home from vacation. House was 58°. I could tell the heating system was calling for hot water on that hot water was making its way through the line but everything ended at the circulating pump. I spent about 20 minutes reading on the Internet and finally came across your video. Shut off all the power, opened the pump up, i'm un-jammed it, put it back together like you demonstrated and fired the heating system up. Within a couple of seconds hot water was flowing again and the house started heating up.
Excellent guide and saved me some money. One thing I noticed though was that there was a continuous dribble of water that didn't stop when I opened the nut. It filled at least a half a mug full before I screwed the nut back on.
Thank you so very much. I had a Grundfos re-circulation pump and was looking at $229 plus removal, and installation and replacement. We recently had a hot water line burst pipe which we had to shut off water through the hot water line to the water heater to get it fixed. After it was fixed, it was taking a long time for the hot water to reach the shower, so I traced it down to the Re circulation pump and followed your directions and it worked like a charm. Thank you!
Just want to say thank you for your video - so perfectly led through to free up my pump (inside combi boiler but exact same method). Even down to O-ring and cloths. A few rotations of the motor got me up and running from my F75 Vaillant error code and save a call-out. I’ll look you up next time I get any errors. I’m definitely back in business and room stat back to 21°C. Thanks again!
Thank you so much, fixing the pump has completely stopped the knocking sounds from the back boiler on my stove and has saved me having to call out plumber!

These videos are fantastic, this is the 2nd one i have used to try and fix my heating. Someone might be able to help, we are running radiators off a stove and the pump wasnt working at all. Got in and their is a green light on it now (it is a grundfos). However it only seems to let me set the thermostat that is attached to the pump at a very low temperature so in effect it is pumping cold or lukewarm water around the radiators. If i set it any higher than 25 degrees it never kicks in. It is an old dial thermostat btw
@@dereton33 thank you very much, it is the old style copper backed one. Just as a follow up a pipe burst last night so fun and games lol. Happy Christmas, your videos are so useful.
Absolutely brilliant man. Thanks for the tip what a star. Now my wee brass turn screw thing to stop the water flow is too worn to turn in order to stop the water if for when I might need to replace the pump at some. Any tips? 🙂
New valve, I honestly don't know what that means, is that what is worn? How can I stop the water if I can't to replace it if I can't turn the screw head to stop the flow. Some kind of plug?
Just for information, my pump started making some noise that I could tell was in the water rather than the motor. I opened it up - four allen screws - and found some small bits of rubber stuck in the impellor. Probably from a rubber seal that had got damaged somewhere in the system. I cleaned it all out nicely and replaced it being careful of the large rubber o ring. So far it is still working fine (touch wood).

Hi,I have a grundfos type ups 15 -50 x 18 central heating pump, what does the numbers mean that I have just quoted? My pump has died ,can I use a similar pump with a different number thanks 👍
My hot water comes on, but heating doesn’t. We have replaced Thermostat and receiver with Hive system. But we had the problem prior to this. We have also changed the 3 way valve. The original problem is still there. The hot water will come on via timer, the Thermostat is calling for the heating to start and light on receiver confirms this. We can manually put the valve to heating. Any suggestions, we have spoken to gas engineers, electricians and plumbers but can’t get any answers.
Hi thank you for your prompt reply and also for all your excellent videos. They are an excellent source of info.Could I ask just, one more question please. My pump is connected to a mini max power source along with thermometers on pipes.so if I switch that on (cold no heat source)should there be any sort of noise humming or anything coming from the pump.Or does it need to get up to some sort of temperature before it all starts working.Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I have no knowledge of this type of heating system and cannot get a heats engineer to come out before Christmas.thanks again in advance Best wishesrosa
Nice info right there. If I may ask a few questions - is it safe to lubricate the circulating pump motor once in a while for a longer life? And also, which is the area where we can add the lube and how often should we be doing it? And one last question, can I use regular oil for lubrication (like bicycle chain oil)? Thanks.
+dereton33 Oh, I didn't know that, thanks for clarifying. How about maintenance? Is trapped air the only thing that should be released once in a while or is there something else I can do to maximize the lifespan of the pump?
Sorry for just getting back now, I feel like a hero lol….heating sorted thanks to your information and support. Thank you so much. You know an engineer would have stung me for this. Now to bleed the rads ☺️
HI Alan, We've got a Kerosene Boiler (oil boiler) HRM Wallstar - it turns on and after about 3 mins turns back off again, it heats the water a small amount - radiators upstairs feel lukewarm and downstairs are still freezing cold, tried bleeding radiators, adjusting oil pressure, checking oil level (more than plenty) no lock out, every hour or so it turns on for between 2 and 5 mins - same with hot water, very lukewarm and not useable. Thanks
Would this work if the boiler was not heating up on schedule? My central will come on if I turn the thermostat (honeywell) to a particular temprature however after it reaches a temprature and switches itself off it will not come back on once the temprature drops. Same if on a timer it will not come back when the scheduled time arrives only if I move the thermostat manually? Water is heating up fine
Total long shot but I will ask anyway, my potterton precision boiler won't ignite, I have power to boiler and thermostat set at 30 for test purposes, the pump got hot after being on for 15mins. Could a stuck pump be a cause of boiler not working? Thank you.
@@dereton33 Thank you for that, gave it a go, but my British Gas Pump didn't have a screw head type thing to spin the pump itself inside, it is a square almost allen key type fitting inside that I'm not able to get anything into it to get it to spin! Thanks again though for your advice I never would have tried it otherwise.
Hi can you give me some advice please. My mum is 87 and needs her heating. Today I found out she has a faulty system that a member of the family did not explain fully to her and comes down to do a " so called fix" for the last year to get her heating back on. The problem is, she has to keep the heating on full time just above 25 degrees if the thermostat on the wall downstairs is turned below this the heating will not came back on. So this member of the family that helped get it installed comes down "and does something" as my mum said. Today I was there and turned down the heating as it was like a sauna to 23 degrees. one hour later my mum says did you turn down the heating (yes I said it was too hot in the room) she then went into a panic and said OMG you shouldn't do that it won't come back on again!! So the member of the family came down and I watched what he did. Basically he opened a valve and let the water drain out. he left and about 30 mins later I went to check the boiler and saw the pressure meter had gone off the clock! The boiler is a remeha avanta 18v, and it regularly drains water out of a pipe on the external of the house, unless my mum keeps it on all the time above 25 degree's which is madness. Can you give me some advice on this?
Hi dereton what would cause a boiler to produce no hot water at the tap but continue to heat the radiators? Im guessing diverter valve? Its a baxi duo tec 28.

We've got a Kerosene Boiler (oil boiler) HRM Wallstar - it turns on and after about 3 mins turns back off again, it heats the water a small amount - radiators upstairs feel lukewarm and downstairs are still freezing cold, tried bleeding radiators, adjusting oil pressure, checking oil level (more than plenty) no lock out, every hour or so it turns on for between 2 and 5 mins - same with hot water, very lukewarm and not useable. Thanks

Hi Derek thanks for your helpful videos. I have the same problem with my kerosene boiler.
No it would not do it. You have a programmer or thermostat fault.
Thanks... I'll get an engineer called
Thank you! You save me a lot of money!
No problem.
Total long shot but I will ask anyway, my potterton precision boiler won't ignite, I have power to boiler and thermostat set at 30 for test purposes, the pump got hot after being on for 15mins. Could a stuck pump be a cause of boiler not working? Thank you.
Yes it can be, but also check the 3 way valve.
Sounds like the expansion vessel is gone, if you have to keep on removing water from the system.
@@dereton33 Thank you for your reply, I will look into it. We are looking at getting a new boiler as well. Keep doing the great work we appreciate it!
Hello deriton what would be the issue if water constantly comes out of the bleed screw when the screw is off?
pump bearing
No, there is a small rubber washer on the bleed screw which must have perished. Just wrap some PTFE tape around the thread before replacing it.
Hi dereton what would cause a boiler to produce no hot water at the tap but continue to heat the radiators? Im guessing diverter valve? Its a baxi duo tec 28.
Yes the diverter valve.
