  • The Rhythm Creation Formula - the method of making the most out of simple concepts. When Billy Rymer of The Dillinger Escape Plan presented this topic to us, we knew we were in for something special. Broken down to it's most basic form, the formula is based around..
    Step 1: Adding Accents & Applying Dynamics
    Step 2: Orchestration (Placing It Around The Kit)
    Step 3: Changing Subdivisions
    Step 4: Adding & Subtracting Notes
    Step 5: Build The Groove
    Becoming more creative is a huge struggle for some aspiring drummers, so we hope this assists you in breaking that mental block and coming up with cool new grooves and licks!

      I remember when I first heard Dillinger, this was when Chris Pennie was the drummer and I thought this guy must have double bass drums, a million toms, a billion cymbals, then I found out he had a simple set up and I was blown away, I hadn't been drumming very long at the time and thought you needed a massive set up to get that sound lol

    One of the best drummers on the planet with 0 fucking doubt, what Billy does is borderline inhuman. Controlled agression, precision, speed, stamina, the ear he has to break down rhytms on the spot. I am just amazed and I really wanna hear his drumming somewhere now after DEP disbanded. Luckily, saw them live and holy shit it was chaos! One of the best gigs of my life.

    I'm not into this kind of music but it is really a special kind of drumming and feel, really impressive. I was waiting for that drummer to make a nice video. When I think about it, but at the first hearing of this song (and also "When I lost my bet"), I was disturbed of how a drummer can play that, almost disliking it by not understanding it, sounded very messy. I really changed my mind when I visually saw what he was doing... damn... like we say in my country, I'll shut my mouth forevermore.

      Love your view
      considering your not into his style of music of music with his band, I think no matter the style or genre, when you see someone play with real conviction, effort and talent you can't knock it...of course i'll be biased cause Dillinger are my favourite band...believe it or not i hate metal music for the most part, I'm a rock guy who loves, in my opinion a handful of great metal bands but these guys 'dillinger' are a one off and it's such a shame it's ending.

    • @andre-michelgoulet6933

      Petit Louis Very respectable to be able to appreciate an art form objectively, whether you actually enjoy it or not. Truly commendable comment, an increasingly rare thing on UA-cam these days unfortunately. I personally didn't really "get it" at first despite being a metalhead, but Diligence really grew on me over time as I started to see that beneath the chaos is some truly special musicianship. Seeing them live last summer at Heavy Montreal was absolutely mind bending and face melting.

    My old band played with this guys band way back on the first Dave Mustaine/Megadeth traveling festival tour The Gigantour. Both our bands didn’t really fit in with the Symphony X’s and Dream Theaters that we were touring with. So we for no other reason bonded simply because we were the outcasts of the festival. Great times.

    Fabulous drummer and band, amazing!! I've been playing drums for a couple decades now and it never ceases to amaze me not only average people who aren't musically inclined so much that couldnt believe I used 4 piece kit and lesser cymbal setup, but the musicians, specifically, drummers who could not wrap their minds around the fact I played the kind of music with minimal setup and gear. As the old saying goes; *it's not the size of your ship, but the motion of the ocean."

      Two things: I think the anti-social perception of him in Death Grips would probably prevent him from wanting to do something like this, as well as the fact that he may not have the much technical expertise to share with us seeing as he said he mostly plays from feel. I think the best lesson we could receive from Zach is to play with as much passion as possible, and don't worry about occasionally bleeding all over your drum set lol

    God damn. Every time I go to watch a video about TDEP I realize that I started listening to them when I was still a year or two away from graduating high school, have been listening to them ever since I heard Calculating Infinity, and it's been just a pure bliss this whole time. Like, there's maybe 5-10 bands/producers across the genres I like that I have listened to as consistently as TDEP, and they're probably the only band ever I've been listening to for as long as Dillinger. Okay, maybe Pink Floyd, but they're a cult classic that hasn't released a new song in decades, and hasn't done so for quite some time before I ever heard them first, and sadly I can't say that I love every single Pink Floyd's album ever released, but as far as TDEP goes, every album they dropped had at least a single great song, and I haven't expected any better from any band or a solo musician for ages, and nobody has ever delivered on that front. My god this band makes me emotional.

Thanks Drumeo for having this forum to teach all of us drummers and to inspire us to want to grow and be better on our kits!! I'm totally amped to play right now!!

    Drumeo might want to invest in higher FPS cams, cuz these cams can't keep up with some of these fast guys haha! At moments I have no clue what he plays by watching, can only figure out by listening and guessing what it was I just missed xD

      +Obviousz I already said that it would be better if they post these videos at 60fps. It would be more fluid.

      Rasmus Rosenfeldt Hansen Just a matter of getting used to it. Actually it's more like the way we saw naturally. But we were "taught" on movies to see at 24 frames.

      +Rasmus Rosenfeldt Hansen It's not, I wouldn't have thought so. He's just a very fast drummer.

    I remember when these dude first came out and seen em at a club in New Haven, CT called the TUNN INN. Back in the day, mid-late 90s, that club was THE place to be to chill with friends and see the best punk, hardcore and metal bands from the tri-state and New Enhland areas most of who were just getting their start and thats where I seen TDEP for the first time. They were absofrigginlutely amazing considering no other band out at the time was doing anything like what Dillinger was doing and even more awesome was watching the look on other people's faces, jaws dropped to the floor, drooling, wide-eyed and speechless other than lip reading "omfg" and "wtf"! Anyways, super stoked to see they're still out there doing it sounding sicker than ever🤘😝🤘

    I know the Dillinger escape plan is metal but this sounds like jazz to me lol

    • @revsharp777
      @revsharp777 6 років тому +21

      Meshuggah Fan8675 you're very right. In a lots of ways, classic Dillinger is jazz at warp speed with distorted guitar and screaming.

    • @hazardeur
      @hazardeur 4 роки тому +4

      @@revsharp777 soundskinda wrong to me. I mean it borrows a lot of elements from Jazz but it doesn't sound anything like it, not even on warp speed. The most obvious change being that DEP has a strong emphasis on rhythtm and in Jazz it's usually more the melody (of which there is a lot more in Jazz too, at least in most subgenres) It's kinda saying like Metal is rock music on speed. While for some bands that's true, for most unqiue bands it's not really holding up. I think Math Metal describes it the best but it's not ideal either
