Darn if I don't come away with all sorts of ideas after watching your videos. Thanks for all of your work on these, and keep the great content coming. Gotta be my favorite channel.
Listen to your elders. They have so much knowledge that's being lost to history. What I would give to go back and listen to my great grandpa and my grandpa's wisdom. Both farmers and fishermen.
I made some injection molds with bondo. You can make any bait but can even substitute the wood for just a regular soft plastic bait and can recreate senkos, and craws. And if you get it really good you can then make more expensive baits like Strike King and Googan Baits, but make them your own colors.
this is very helpful. there were hundreds of people at the river targeting walleye and they leave their soft plastics behind all the time. now i know what to do with my 5 gallon bucket full of used curly tail grubs
Awesome video. Back in the day I had all the stuff to make plastics. Had about 10 or more molds. And I sold all of it. Wish I still had it all. Thanks for the video
Just a simple trick to avoid getting bubbles in the mold. When pouring the silicone in the box. Hold the silicone high above the box so it creates a thin pour line. Not so high it blows all over. This give the bubbles away to escape. Then you can use the sander or low pressure air to blow on the top of the pour silicone. Great Job !
AWESOME , I've used a microwave for awhile now BUT that's over . The lead trick is what I was missing with a hot plate !! Thanks for the info and the DIY !!!!!!
This might be nice. Thanks for the quick tutorial on how to make silicon molds. I have a few projects that will come in handy for. recycling old lures I dont really need to do yet but this will be interesting if I want to make my own one day.

You can buy open pour molds too . I think Amazon sells em . But I like designing my own stuff lol . What I really like about em is you can find old soft plastic all kinds of place really cheap that they don't sell melt em down and re purpose em into baits you will use
The open face mold idea was a life saver for me. Except I'm going to ty making the mold with some old floral clay I have sitting around the house. To melt my old soft plastic I was going to go with the hot plate until I keep hearing how easy it was to burn up the plastic. That's also before you showed the lead trick. Instead a couple days ago I hunted a few thrift shops until I found what I was looking for. An coffee pot warmer like my grandparents used to have. It doesn't reach as hot of temperature as a hot plate on it's lowest setting. I put a small pot, old plastics and a glass lid (to see the melting progress & block fumes) on the warmer. Works perfectly! I gave it a little stir about every 10min and left it on the warmer for almost 2 hrs to see if it would burn up. Nope, never did. For 2 hrs that warmer keep the plastic in a liquid state with just a stir once and awhile. I actually ate dinner(30-40min) without messing with it till I finnished. I'm telling you, if you can find an old coffee pot warmer somewhere, grab it! You'll never use that hot plate again.

Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
Good stuff. Your finish on your first one was flat because you didn't`t seal your cedar plug. Sealing your cedar plug with a clear lacquer will give the finish of your plastic rubber I shinny coat. Also when you start your carving, always have a centre line on your block of wood first ,then draw your desired body shape. A centre line on your initial block of wood will keep your carving streamline to glide better in the water. Cheers from Canada.
Dang Keith that's pretty cool. I tell you I sure learned a few things on that video. Zoom plastic. And I figured out I can't use the microwave. And using the lead in a can. I always put my silicones an resins in a vacume chamber to draw out the bubbles. I got an old HVAC 3 cfm vac pump from a garage sale cheap. Harbor Freight has them too.
I use the clay you bake to make the lure blank I want. I bake it till hard. I push that into a block of clay and then bake that. Pour your plastic( I melt old rubber worms) and let cool. If you spray cooking spray in mold it releases easier.
What you could also try is putting a leadhead jig upside down in the mold and burry the eye and the top of the hook into mold and pour your plastic then your jig will be made inside your lure

It keeps it from scorching the plastic and making it turn brown , the part where I went to Glenns house ,,, he explained it
