Jamie Murphy Jr. Two of my favorite guitarists, can't believe I've never heard this before. The only thing that would make this better is if they had Billy Gibbons or Warren Haynes with them.
Stevie was a class act didn't want to show anybody up would just stayed in background had Gary not practically force him to the front, Gary Rossington also very humble person
Have spent really too much time watching videos, my heart can't handle it 40 +years later. Now Charlie is in heaven too. So many greats are gone and all we have are the videos. Thank you for sharing these.
I wasn't checking out Ed King's shorts but if he was comfortable with them daisy dukes, Rock On ! I enjoyed Charlie's enthusiasm and Taz Digregorio singing and really dug Tommy Crane's playing and SRV looking happy and having fun :)
@Gregorious2270 Isn't it wonderful we have this footage. Us that were from that time (age 64) look at and remember. The 60's and 70's were an epic time for the lover of music. Today's kids with their machines can make anybody sound good. Back then, it was about talent, and it was real
Joshua g I think in I got an idea what was in the back Stevie Ray Vaughans mind during this performance. He was playing alongside Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd. For the latter of the two this was one of their first reunion shows and SRV probably had great respect for Lynyrd Skynyrd and didn't want to hog the spotlight that night he probably thought this is their night and let people in the crowd take in these southern rock legends and enjoy it, plus SRV was a humble guy to begin with.
God bless Charlie daniels he was the man 🙏 the only one to put on a jam like this and invite all the greatest of our time of real music 🎶 🎵 we miss you brother
SRV was such a gentleman. I love the fact that all the other guitarists were standing there just watching him. lol - They all knew he had a huge talent but he was such a gentleman and would NEVER out play anyone on stage. That wasn't in him. He just had fun doing what loved most. :)
@marlamedina52 There will never be another SRV. I still cry about his leaving us. I love Toy, Ed Gary but Stevie, had to give him his due. He dressed flashy like a pirate, but his personality was humble. He, his bassist with Double Trouble in mall at tobacco store, walking around, people staring. Had on his hat with white tail, red pants, alligator boots. He was asked "Do you ever feel like you're being stared at? " Stevie said. "Yes, I do". The reply, "Maybe you are. Classic SRV.....his respect for other musicians was evident every time he shared the stage with someone else. Although he could've smoked everyone off of the stage, SRV was never one to bask in the spotlight. SRV was a gentle giant of epic proportions.
Nice to see Leon get a chance to cut loose, and help the vocalists get the lyrics straight. Seemed like at one point, SRV eased over, and was having some fun with Ed King, until it looked like Gary R. jumped in front of Ed.
No,no,no.....srv is with great company and any one of the guys on stage had no problem being on his level. Toy, Gary, Ed King, Tommy Crain, and Randall. Truth be told Toy or Ed may have been the best out there, but it's no competition, they are all different and all top level.
WHAT A STAGE FULL OF TALENT HERE, I NEVER KNEW THAT SRV PLAYED AT A VOLUNTEER JAM, IT IS A CRYIN SHAME THAT HALF OF THESE PEOPLE ARE GONE NOW, THIS VIDEO SHOULD GO DOWN IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME HERE, I MUST PAY RESPECT TO MR. JJ CALE FOR WRITING THIS SONG, R.I.P. JJ, COUSIN FIGEL
Didn’t see him on the stage but Collins became the musical director for skynyrd in 87 when They got the band going again. He might’ve been there but cause of the accident unfortunately he couldn’t play and part of his plea bargain was to address the crowd at every show of why he couldn’t perform..such a fucking talent he was and they all were..Skynyrd imo had probably the best lineup in the world in 77 before what happened RIP..
Every splinter from every piece of wood on that stage deserves a place in rock history. Just once in a lifetime music history happening! God Bless Charlie and the Volunteer Jam.
One concert at Westbury LI we were pulling into parking lot and Charlie was next to us in his bus. We hung out the window saying hi and he waved and tipped his hat to my wife. A real class act
Toy Caldwell was so under appreciated and Mason Ruffner blast from the past, drummers staying syncopated the whole time isn't easy, Ed King tasty licks, Ed King bringing the honky tonk and lets hear it for master SRV. Stinging rhythm punches to augment the song then steps in to deliver monster tone solo just dancing on the edge and pushing the solo to places only he could think of. Damn!
oh my god. holy moly. first time seeing this VINTAGE jam...are you kidding me...Stevie Ray, Gary, Toy, Charlie...ok this is a video that is on the lesson board for my son about music that matters!
Only saw The CDB once back in'78 at Astroworld, across from The Astrodome. Man they put on a fine show, only disappointment is they didn't play "Texas". I reckon they figured we would tear the stage down and go to the nearest Honky-Tonk and bring the band with Us. Hell, that's kidnapping! But a great show nonetheless.
Gary helping Stevie into the spotlight, Charlie making sure everyone gets their moment. Toy Caldwell, Marine, war hero. Legendary musicians, maybe even better human beings! There will never be another group like this! Most are gone, God bless all of them!
I would have loved to hear him play some other types of music. His blues were "out of this world". I'd love to have seen him, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Ed King with Leon Wilkerson and on bass
You can only say good things about Gary Rossington anyone that says bad things about him they probably wish they could play guitar and they're jealous he was amazing

Amazing jam, history was made on this stage this night. Wish Ronnie was singing. I take peace knowing that SRV and Ronnie are having a hell of a time in heaven.
Most of the awesome people on that stage are gone from this world. 7/29/20. Charlie just left us and all we have are videos. RVZ would have loved SRV. Trying to be good so I can get to heaven and jam with them. This, btw, is real music. No autotune crap. Oh my heart is crying
When Leon does his bass solo, it reminds me that Lynyrd Skynyrd used to warm up for The Who. Leon obviously has learned a trick or two from John Entwistle. And when the bridge pick up of Garys Les Paul cuts through the air, the tones goes straight into my heart. Must be a very strong man though, Gary, been carrying that Les Paul for so many decades .. Too bad they didn't make Ed Kings guitar sound better. I have always liked his way to play. An underrated guitarist he is.

Love how Gary led SRV to the front of the stage, like "hey buddy you ain't gotta hide, get up there and show these people what you got." Shows how humble SRV was, he didn't want to upstage anybody up there
Holy Smokes Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Rossington playing side by side!!! I just died a little!
Jamie Murphy Jr. Two of my favorite guitarists, can't believe I've never heard this before. The only thing that would make this better is if they had Billy Gibbons or Warren Haynes with them.

Jamie Murphy Jr. Now that's star power right there! Holy shit!
Jamie Murphy Jr.
No it's Stormy. Slammers Trump gigs up.
Jamie Murphy Jr. Yes and ironic that he's ( Gary Rossington) is next to another aircraft fatality victim ( SRV)
Toy Caldwell and Stevie Ray on the same stage!!!
Incredible!!

Yes, you're so right Jen.
@Matthew Arant I think you read it wrong 🤣🤣
Gary .... Allen and Stevie Gaines were 3 of the best guitarist ever ! Nothing to debate about that .
Two are really missing here ! Allen Collins and Steve Gaines. Rest in peace boys.
Steve Gaines....WOW! He never really had the chance to show the World how great he was.
Great Suggestion!!

SRV could play it all, so very special seeing him and Gary together. Now that is a collection of the very best on that stage.
If you want to catch a smile watch the smile on Leon wilkerson's face after Stevie Ray Vaughan gets done playing his solo catch it if you can
May God hold those who have left us in the palm of his hand.
Amen!
Amen 🙏
SRV was such a gentleman just standing in the back. Charlie and Gary had to make him come to the front of the stage lol.
Right. Everything about him seemed like just a great person.
I don't think he was physically very big but Charlie Daniels seems HUGE! LOL
