I'm making more plans to go out with my dad, last 7 years iv spent more time fishing with him than I have with out him. Great video matt glad your dad's out and about with you
Congratulations Barry 🥳 you have been randomly selected to win the pellets and wafters giveaway in this video. Please message me on the westys angling instagram or facebook page to claim your prize 🏆 🥇
Hiya, my biggest change to my winter fishing is the cloths I wear loads of layers I also take 2 x hot drink flasks. I think small & often work best for me, I like very small PVA bags & I use your small Bango feeders. Wow what a gold fish 🐠brilliant & a great days fishing for both of you.
Hi Matt. Your dad looks so cool with his shades! That first fish looked like a decent roach to me, the redness of it's fins. In winter, I tend to scale down and fish for silvers. Great vid mate! Well done.
Changes Iv made this winter, tie my own rigs, and carryung on practising my knots, looking forward to seeing them new rig tutorial vids! Great vid mate!
Always take my sons with me ,even tho I spend most of the days undoing tangles.but those memories will stay with them hopefully when they fishing with their kids👍
Great video proving you can still catch in colder, variable weather conditions. My changes at this time of year are to use the smallest method/banjo feeders so there’s just a mouthful of bait for the fish, as I find they don’t move about as much so don’t need as much food. The other thing I change (like you this year) I target big Perch in the margins. I usually find dusk is the prime time to catch them.👍🏻🎣
l love winter fishing not many people go this time of year and it's so peaceful then, i scale down on feeder size as well i use the preston mini feeder just the right amount pellets on the feeder for this time of year , also use maggots as a hook bait , but sadly i only have the coming sat left to go fishing as i am getting married on the 21st of dec, but definitely be back on the bank in jan so please keep the videos coming and well done both tight lines.
Enjoyed your video as I always do , don’t get out much now to fish as I feel the cold , so stay home and watch UA-cam going through all your videos:) nice to see you still going out there .
I only started fishing in June this year so this is my first cold weather season on the bank, so as for changing things I'm learning what to change up so your videos as always help a bunch. Cheers westy.
I was never that interested in fishing growing up but watching you and your dad out I realise how much I missed out on. I’m changing to smaller method feeders for winter fishing 😊
Another great video. Ya poor dad looks frozen to death!!! We had booked a week away fishing but cancelled due to storm Bert and now this cold snap and also the lake we fish is only 3 foot deep so think we will wait till new year. Anyway westy look forward to next video.
Just getting back into fishing after a 12 year gap, thanks to my sons who getting right into it. Simple thing I change for the winter is warmer clothes 🥶
Grateful for the tip soaking the pellets, I’m very hit & miss with mine & they keep falling off. Loving the winter beard 🧔🏻♂️, getting ready for Christmas 🎅🏼 ? Worms collected & stored ready for the next session on the bank 🎣
Great video, with some good tips! Definitely going to use smaller pellets (2mm) if I go method feeding. But for winter, I'm going try lure fishing for the first time and see if I can bag my first pike........hopefully! p.s. love how your Dad is sat down and all setup, before you even start.....legend! 😂 Look forward to that video about hook lengths. Had so many manufactured ones break this year!
Evening Westy. Personally I opt for thinner wire gauge hooks, same size just finer. More layers as expected but relish quieter fisheries! Another cracking video!
Always look closer at fishery choice this time of year. Love winter as fewer people about 😊 I always just scale down. Smaller hooks and feeders, also leave then out a bit longer
I’ve gone from method feeder in the summer to maggot feeder and pole in a few winter matches. Very different but very enjoyable not had a winter blank yet
Great video as always and the main thing to change for me is there's more choice of pegs to fish , so seem to get the better pegs to fish from. Keep up the good work ! 🎣🎣🎣🥶🥶
Hi Matt, just watched your latest video where you said you wanted to target perch, the number one lake has some big perch in and it's a lot deeper which you know having made a video on there earlier, you can catch on waffters so it be worth ago. Keep up the good work, hopefully I may be on thereon Monday.
Hi westy great video again ,winter fishing is grim mate firstly wrap up more layers the better ,hot flasks of oxo cubes with pepper keeps the cold out ,fishing wise I just scale everything down smaller hooks smaller feeders smaller wafters ,less is more cheers Matt keep it up
Loving the videos. I scale down in winter to a micro banjo feeder and 4mm pellet on the hook or a wafter. It’s worked for me but I understand that it might not work for others. I’m confident in my own method so feel this is best.
The changes I have been making in the colder winter months are trying to use more natural baits such as maggot and worm to try and draw the fish in and also not overfeed them. Loving your videos keep it up 👌👌
@@WestysAngling appreciate that mate, gonna try High Heyes in the near future looks a cracking venue. Weve been Mere lane past couple weekends and its been very slow 🎣
Great Video love watching them I’ve learnt a lot from you 👍 winter fishing I have moved out of the sweet bait and into the more fishy and spicy bait ! I brought the cold water pelle bundle of you a couple of weeks ago and they are great so thank you 🙏
In the winter, I'll generally just fish with one rod on a fishery like this. Smaller, sweeter baits seem to keep the bites coming on the feeder. Or, naturals on the float
Hi, great video. I use smaller feeders and leave them in longer but cast in a clock method moving my feeder to try and locate the Carp, I always use high attraction pellets ( chocolate orange or fruity mix). Also mix baits between corn, maggots and wafters. I like to add some corn into my feeder mix and then use a yellow wafter, this works really well for me.Like you I use the same main line and hook link line all year. I was out last Sunday and had 9 Carp including a double figure(11lb) all on wafters. I also use 2 rods as fishing can get a bit slow. I was the only one fishing.👍😁
Warm gloves. Benny hat... Westys wafters 8 mm on one rod, a krill wafter with a small bright 8mm pineapple westys wafter so smelly and vision is good.😊
Great video as always!!! I have been fishing today at a place called birkwood, haven’t caught much from there recently but had a great day today and caught some big f1s and 2 winter tench. Can’t wait too see future videos!! And my main change for winter has mainly been trying a new small method feeder I don’t usually use method feeders but I thought I would give it a go and it worked and I targeted towards the middle witch is definitely a change for me as a summer margin guy 😅 also changed too some sweeter baits and some natural baits mainly worms on the float for some perch. Hope you and your dad have an amazing day!!
Absolutely brilliant westy Haven’t made any changes as of yet still on the 8mm pink and micros hope am not to late for the giveaway Catch you next week matey
@@WestysAngling I'm a river feeder and lure fishing guy. Your grayling video was an absolute banger. Would you make a video about getting into a float fishing? You dad says he wants to so some next time so maybe go through the rig, rods to look for and all the jazz. Appreciating the content you put out!
Have purchased the sweetcorn pellets with the sweetcorn waffters,Had a awesome session on the weekend, was a mild weekend but surprisingly the carp still feeding in margins and even on surface with bread, still top marks with the cold water pellets looking forward to a few more cold sessions to see how they hold up👍
I do similar to yourself I keep it the same with the pellets but I’ll be doing similar with ground bait in to the mix too hahaha 🤣 so nothing too different! Loved it as always
I fond in the winter months its far more important to have a good walk around and try spot signs of fish. In general though i cut down on the amount free feed and use far more attractive baits
Hi Westy, l continue to add glaze, but not as you do I.e on top of the pellets. As l want to target the fish on the bottom in winter, and do not want to create a smell attraction through the water column. I add the glaze approximately mid pellets( as a great northern pastie lol). Meaning the attraction is on the bottom with my pellets and hopefully the fish! Keep the vids going , l watch every one. Thanks again.
I do like your thinking, however hear me out Ken … no right or wrong way to do this … it’s all guesswork, but, I think the fish can be in the upper layers or mid layers in the colder month. I think sometimes the fish will follow the ‘trail of glaze’ down through the layers to the bottom ! That’s my theory anyway 😂
I always take maggots in winter, saves a blank. Just bought some of your cold pellets (spent about £55 inc delivery then after that I saw it was free delivery after £60! Ha) my boys and I watch you and have fished these pegs you and your dad are in quite a few times. For the big perch, feed with a few pinkies now and again, with a lobworm on the hook
Changes i make. Wrap up, bigger flask (stanley 1.9l) groundbait away and I've recently started to use a floating pellets on my method feeder. Not much luck, out 2 days last week, blanked on both. 🙈🤷♂️ Great content again Westy.
@WestysAngling spot on. Gonna invest in the food one for soup during the winter mate. Hopefully gonna place an order soon for some of your gear buddy. 👍
In winter dont change alot just how long i leave my bait in for and location of venues and from margin to deeper waters! Another brilliant video keep it up
Another great video! I have tried smaller hook baits and scaled down hook sizes in winter months and it does seem to help a little but as you said is it just coincidence 🤔
Was at high hayes on Saturday just gone. Was a very tough day. I’ll take a big slab all day to save a blank. Great venue. Be back for sure. We was also on the westy pegs. This is my first winter fishing. I’d definitely change to some better warmer socks😂 but I have recently changed to two method feeder rods on a pod. Also yet to try my new korum xs support arm. Which is a lot much re sturdier than the feeder arm.
I like to use brighter baits and more smelly like baits to get them on the feed in the colder weather I find bright more sweeter baits work best for me in winter even for carp pineapple wafters high leakage has worked well for me this winter.
only thing i do between summer & winter is i feed less & leave line out longer & i only use method feeder & solid bags in winter. keep the films coming
All i changed this year is my hookbait. Gone from a yellow banoffee 6mm to a fluro pink 6mm and still catching. Still on method feeder with 2mm pellets. Upto 45 mins to get bites sometimes. 4 on bank in 3hrs Sunday just gone... that'll do me son 😂
The changes I make in the winter months are using more sweet and Spicy baits and baits with more attractive smells rather than hi feed types. I tend to stick with method feeder all winter too.
Decent session in the end .....I don't change anything in terms of tackle cuz if Ur only expecting 1 or 2 bites why risk getting cracked off, maybe add a little groundbait to the pellets
Not managed to fish as much this year as last, mainly only put a method feeder out, went away for my 60th end of November, and in the cold decided I'd give a tenkara whip a go, did well with about 50 silvers on dead reds, main thing I need to do is dress warmer over the winter though and remember a brolly/day shelter
My main changes in winter is trying to use a scoop or two of ground bait within my pellet mix. It just fills the gaps and brings in a bit more attractant to the swim. Plenty of glaze on the feeder and in the pellet mix to bring the fish in. Hopefully this helps someone, if you’re struggling.
During colder months I tend to feed a little less and look for the deeper parts of where I’m fishing and obviously I wrap up a lot warmer and have a big flask of coffee!!! N
iv put away my seatbox and pole aswell as my feeder rod and chair and now spend my weekends walking our local canals with my son and our spinning rods - local jack pikes and perch and Zander are the target
My big change for cold weather this year as been to stay at home and get through a full house re decorating project 😂 It will get me more warm weather fishing next year though ... I will be out on 23rd December though ... Rufford meadow.. Great cold water venue .. very deep with some very hard fighting carp.. Pellet feeder with yellow or white wafters
How about some waggler fishing for carp, tench, bream etc. Setup and methods. I used to do a lot of trotting on the Ribble for chub but I'm not as mobile now so just lakes for me.
I have scaled down my line And hook size on the pole after little success on the method feeder since the frosty mornings arrived. Although I did then catch a few in a 45 minute window around midday , I wouldn’t claim anything conclusive.
The main change I make is switching from the method feeder to the maggot feeder. I’d love to see a video about maggot feeding from you, if you haven’t done one already 😅
