Not many serious actors can do comedy very well, but Roddy McDowall was not afraid to put himself out there in order to have a little fun, and audiences loved him for it. As a young girl growing up in the 70s, I thought he was adorable. It was always a treat to see him on The Carol Burnett Show. RIP Roddy McDowall. ♥

Remember sitting with my mother in the Capitol Theater in Vancouver watching Lassie Come Home . Think we both shed a few tears. No wonder I'm writing this now How Green Was My Valley was a real winner, too. Beats the crud they produce so much today. There was class back then that seems to have gone now. Mom would not approve, nor would I. Roddy, we who remember you, miss you.
Carol doesn't get enough credit for her singing ability. Not only could she do novelty songs, she could wail a soulful ballad or torch song with the best of 'em. I always loved when she would sing on the show.
As a Brit, I'm insanely proud Roddy McDowall was an Englishman! He was loved by all who knew him, as a truly wonderful, loyal friend (Liz Taylor was among his closest buddies). By all accounts he was the real deal - he really was as witty, charming, genteel and fabulous as he appeared. And what a powerhouse talent! That man could play everything from comedy to tragedy. Only he could have imbued that rubber chimp mask with so much personality! We all have a favourite Roddy performance - mine might be his wonderful cameo as horror TV host 'Peter Vincent' in 'Fright Night', opposite the equally sublime Chris Sarandon in 1985. He made every role magical to the end of his life. Roddy's death from lung cancer in 1998 aged 70, took him from us far too soon. But what a wonderful life!
I know, right? One of my fave parts of Singin' In The Rain. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore: Roddy McDowall, Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and so may more. That's when entertainers had talent!
Carol Burnett she is extremely very funny and a great actress . Roddy McDowall he's a good actor , I am remember he did the voice over , " Snowball , from Pinky and the Brain " , I think he did a great job . RIP Roddy .
This is great.im a big roddy fan,i miss the old talk shows where you can actually get wholsome entertainment the family can enjoy and learn somthing fun
I was only born in 1970, so i remember watching 'planet of the apes' on tv as a toddler, and thinking he was so cute. and yes, i remember that. LOL my mom bought me planet of the apes dolls when i was about 3, i always remember that. and of course as a small child in the 70's, i grew up watching him on all those disney tv movies, like 'that darn cat'. etc. i always loved him.
gocolago33, Roddy was such a pro at tongue twisters, he rehearsed maybe 2 or 3 times; he's that good! I, on the other hand, have trouble with pronouncing cinnamon, Massachusetts, impediment. . . . And, yes, this one is brilliant!
@@SARISS80 Actually, it's Caesar. I believe this was 1973 and he came out in his make up for Battle for the Planet of the Apes in which he played Cornelius' son... Caesar.
Wasn’t his claim to fame Cornelius from Planet of the Apes ? Toy boat is funny to try to say ! I get about 4 before I screw up , and whistling the And Griffiths show tune for some reason breaks me up ! Lol 😂

No one could spell his name correctly. Not even you. He was just so fantastic! A very odd choice perhaps for a young teen girl in the Midwest in the early '70s? I guess so!
Try 3 tongue twister in portuguese. (You shall say it very fast) 1 - Três pratos de trigo pra três tigres intrigados. 2 - O pelo do pé do pedro é preto. 3 - O rato roeu a roupa do rei de roma.
Roddy McDowall was a absolute star beyond compare. He did every kind of genre and still was dignified in every role he was in.

Not only was he a gifted actor, but by all accounts he was one of the few true gentlemen in Holllywood. They don't make 'em like him anymore.
I could not agree more, including Carol Burnett, also Brent. Adios, Todd 1/23/2015
How many stars do you personally know today so that you could say that without sounding like an ass?
Exactly how many people do you even know in "Hollywood"? None. Exactly.

Oh my Roddy McDowall is so darn cute. I have a crush since 1972 when I was 9 years old. May he RIP.
Roddy was so loved by fans and friends alike. A true gentleman and a damn fine entertainer. The world is a much sadder place without him.
I totally agree. I still miss this lovely man.
"Having Roddy around all week is a treat for the ears as well as for the eyes."
I couldn't agree with you more, Carol. Well said!
Yes, they don't make entertainers like this anymore. RIP Roddy.
Yes, adorable as a child in "How Green Was My Valley".
Pure entertainment. Unlike what we have today.
Am I the only one who watches Roddy and nothing else? The man is too cute for words.
You're definitely not the only one who watches nothing but Roddy! He certainly is too cute for words. I absolutely adore him!
💯

I had such a crush on Roddy when I was a 16 year old.💘
So you just sit around watching endless viewings of Planet of the Apes and other movies Roddy made? Man, that's just sad, and I'm a fan of his.
Carol doesn't get enough credit for her singing ability. Not only could she do novelty songs, she could wail a soulful ballad or torch song with the best of 'em. I always loved when she would sing on the show.
Who is supposed to be singing her praises about her singing since she hasn't had a show on the air in, what, OVER FORTY YEARS?

I think every entertainer during this period loved Carol .So many of them were guests on her show
Definitely an enjoyment, the English tongue twisters were enough to make my brain start to feel like it was slipping! Ronnie McDowell is awesome!!!
Oh, I crushed on Roddy for most of my teenage years.
So did I,

Why can't we get this kind of tv entertainment back... it was so refreshing to look at and so darn CLEAN!!

I have always loved Roddy McDowall😀
ME TOO!!! HE IS SOO CUTE!!! I LOVE HIS VOICE!
One of my "favorite" actors.. best in the business... was a perfectionist in all of his movies
Both are pretty good. This two know what they're doing.
I wish Carol Burnett still had a television show.
It wouldn’t survive in today’s society!

I was half expecting Carol to glare at Roddy, after he did that long one about the thistle, and say, "Oh, shut up!"😁
Much like Jack Benny would have done!
