The interviewer is good. He asked intelligent questions and he was interested in Roddys answers. Roddy is a pro. He never talks negative about anyone. Fun to watch.
In 1974 I had the opportunity to visit the Planet of the Apes TV show set. I was 12 and we were watching a scene with Roddy McDowell in full ape make-up and costume. Maybe it was his humanity that I was so taken by, but I was a huge fan of Roddy's and his ape characters. He could tell, because when there was a break, he walked across the soundstage right up to me to scrunch his brow and say "Hello". I don't even know if I said anything. It was all I could do to keep from falling over. Thinking about this huge event from my childhood, I can't help but think what a generous and caring act this was. And that is pretty much all you hear about Roddy's legacy. He was generous and caring.
What a great experience. Thanks for sharing that. He was a favorite of mine. I was about the same age at that same time and would've keeled over to be able to see him on set like that. It's nice to hear he was so playful w you.
He photographed and took home 16mm film of all the biggest stars, and not so big stars, in particular, 1965, at his small beach house in Malibu. They all trusted him. He never betrayed any of them. The kind of friend anyone would want.
Roddy was such a kind and warm person. He was very loyal and popular amongst the Hollywood stars of the golden age. His home movies can be seen on UA-cam. They are a fascinating inside look at the golden age of Hollywood. I've never read a bad word said about Roddy...he was very well liked and respected by his peers.
A rare, wonderful gentleman. Never heard anything bad about him....there was one little incident, but it was found to be nothing. I have loved him my whole life....and am currently gathering his movies to watch once more. Genuinely, a consummate actor and gentleman.
That's the right word a Gentleman no doubt about it. His sense of well being has always comforted most if not all people while he was videotaping. Today it is considered a an invasion of privacy. Roddy McDowall was a stand up kind of guy, with a touch of class, good day ol chum...
Just saw Roddy's movie, How Green Was My Valley - And I fell in love with his acting. He looked so innocent, cute faced boy, perfect the role he played !!! Hats off to the director, he selected a perfect boy then. . According to me, he acted in this movie mainly using his eyes. Almost every scene, he did talking with his eyes. Wish I had met this wonderful, kind man. RIP
He was friends with absolutely everyone who was anyone! According to Lauren Bacall in her autobiography By Myself and then some He was a very kind, loyal friend. She just loved him! As did many others!
His dry kind humor comes through, he once said of his role in the Poseidon Adventure “ I gotta be in a great success of a film and thankfully I was one of the fist to perish so I didn’t have to stand in cold wet clothing for two more months. “
I know how you feel; I've been watching him since I was 2 years old, been in love with him since I was 8. He died when I was 10, but my love never did. Only grew as I did. He was a gem of man. We were truly blessed that he lived among us on earth for his far too short 70 years. He left behind a legacy that is the biggest blessing to all of mankind. His spirit was so loving. It's a shame, there aren't more people like him.
I've known of him pretty much my whole life, and I remember he passed away when I was 8. Then in my later years, I paid more and more attention to him. I absolutely love how adorable he was, and very attractive. He also seemed to me to have a kind spirit as well, very sweet, would have loved to have met him. :)

He has tons of home movies with the big actors of his day. I wish I had been an adult in the mid 60's simpler and much better days. America sucks today I hate to admit but true.
Roddy McDowall is one of the best actors ever. He never got the respect he deserved! He seemed to always be cast as a supporting actor, and never the lead. Thanks to him we still have many movies that would have been destroyed. I loved Roddy! Still do! He was a class act, even as a child.
He was a little before my time, but nevertheless he is the reason I love drama and film today. I would later discover that he had a similar passion for film and film preservation as me. It is often said that he was a rarity in Hollywood in the sense that he made no enemies during his lifetime. A very rare feat in this game, but so evident here. Thank you for the memories, Roddy.
Roddy was a gay man, I'd like to know more about his life in that respect. He accomplished so much and was so respected yet had to work undercover all his life. Amazing man, would have loved to have met him!
The film they speak of, "Dead of Winter" had a release date of 6 February 1987 in the USA. Cary Grant died on November 29th 1986. I would guess that this interview happened somewhere around there.
I’m just now hearing of this man, very likable. He also made a couple of really cool home videos, one of the, documents working on planet of the apes. Roddy was also very good in Fright Nights. Unfortunately, not many talk about that film, idk why, it’s a great vampire flick.
He also played a devil character on Fantasy Island. It was deeply cool seeing this kind, upstanding man play a character who could switch on the dark so effectively.
I remember about 15 years ago i saw a book on photography, it was all pictures that Rodney had taken. He had an eye for picture taking. I am sorry now because i didn't buy it because i have never seen that book again. Anyone who might find it you may want to take a look.

Thanks 🙏🏼 for sharing
Just an excellent human being.
The world needs, and has always needed, more people like him.
The description of his first sight of Elizabeth Taylor was exquisite “So beautiful I began to laugh...takes your breath away” ❤️❤️❤️

Roddy on COLUMBO was epic and also Roddy on NIGHT GALLERY in the episode called THE CEMETERY is must see t.v.
Yes, that episode of Night Gallery is terrifying and he was convincing as a rake.
Yes, one of the best guests on Columbo
What a gentleman. I always thought he was a wonderful and very gifted actor.
A real rarity in Hollywood in that I don’t think I have ever heard a single person ever say a bad thing about him
When I saw the movie "How Green Was My Valley" I was really moved by Roddy's endearing performance. He was a winner from the beginning.
